The morning after an Ebola scare prompted emergency medical crews to board a plane at Logan Airport and screen passengers complaining of flu-like symptoms, Gov. Deval Patrick said at a press conference Tuesday that Massachusetts remains at low risk for the disease and stressed there had yet to be a confirmed case in the commonwealth. “The CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] says we still remain at low risk, but we remain vigilant,” Patrick said. On Monday, an Emirates flight from Dubai, United Arab Emirates was held at Logan International Airport for several hours while public safety personnel in protective suits boarded and screened five passengers who were complaining of flu-like symptoms. According to Massport Fire Chief Robert Donahue, the passengers said they were in contact with people from West Africa — where Ebola has claimed more than 4,000 lives — during their recent trip to Saudi Arabia. The five were isolated in the back of the plane, said Donahue, while their conditions were assessed. Two of them had a fever and were vomiting while all five were suffering from nausea, he said. Ultimately, the five were driven to area hospitals, where they were determined to pose no public health risk, according

to the Boston Public Health Commission. On Sunday, a patient who had recently been to Liberia and was complaining of flulike symptoms was taken from a Braintree medical clinic to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, which has since determined the patient does not have Ebola. Tuesday morning, local civic leaders appealed for calm at a press conference at Logan and maintained that the state and its hospitals are ready and prepared for any instance of Ebola. Patrick reiterated that Ebola is “hard to catch.” The disease, which has had a fatality rate of more than 70 percent during the most recent outbreak, is spread through bodily fluids. Boston Mayor Marty Walsh
said, “There’s been no cases. … By simply going out of your house and going on the train you’re not going to catch Ebola.” Asked about the effect of Ebola panic on local business, Pat Moscaritolo, president of the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, said he believes the federal government must become more aggressive in dealing with Ebola, not only from a health policy approach, but also from a public information approach. “Their laid-back approach is playing into a potential fear factor driving this issue. Less rhetoric and more action is needed from Washington, D.C.,” he said. DANNY MCDONALD @DMacCash daniel.mcdonald@metro.us

Two of the three infants who were found dead in a Blackstone house of horrors last month apparently lived long enough for their mother to clothe and diaper them before allegedly concealing their lifeless bodies in mounds of filth. The infants were dressed in onesies and were wearing dia-
pers when investigators found their remains on Sept. 10 and Sept. 11, Worcester County Assistant District Attorney John E. Bradley Jr. said Tuesday said in Uxbridge District Court. One of the children had “a fairly full head of hair,” Bradley said. Their mother, Erika Mur-
ray, 31, was held on $1 million cash bail Tuesday on charges of fetal death concealment, witness intimidation, and permitting substantial injury to a child. Investigators also found four other children between the ages of 3 and 13 living in the home, which was piled
with trash, feces and decayed animal remains. Defense attorney Keith Halpern had argued Tuesday that Murray was not a flight risk because she has no money or means to travel, and she had barely left the house in the eight years before her arrest. MORGAN ROUSSEAU

Boston. Impatience growing among medical marijuana advocates; state yet to implement law There were two car accidents. The first, in 2011, was where Nichole Snow struck the windshield with her head and shoulders. The second, in 2013, was where she hyperextended her neck from the whiplash. Pain from those injuries forced the 33-year-old Salem resident to retire from telecommunications. She was prescribed painkillers, but she says the meds made her ill. “I was put on so much Ibuprofen to the point where it poisoned me and I got sick,” she said. Now, she is among those pushing hard for the state to implement its medical marijuana law, an initiative 63 percent of voters passed in 2012. Snow says marijuana helps ease her pain. With the Department of Public Health failing to implement the law, Snow says she is at times forced to find the drug on the black market.

When I’m able to find medical cannabis, I can function better.” Snow was among the dozens of protesters outside of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health’s downtown Boston offices late Tuesday morning. The protesters want the law to be implemented as soon as possible and say people are suffering while the state drags its feet. Implementing the law, said Mickey Martin, an activist and consultant, would decrease opiate use and overdoses. John Polanowicz, the state’s Secretary of Health and Human Services, through a statement said marijuana dispensaries are in the final “inspection phase” prior to opening and added that “safe patient access” is a priority. Some may be open by the end of the year, he said. DANNY MCDONALD

Harvard students: Adopt ‘affirmative consent’ Cambridge. Three student groups are seeking a change in the school’s sexual harassment policy. Three Harvard groups are pushing for their school to adopt an “affirmative consent policy
based on a California model that requires “affirmative, conscious and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual activity. Under the law, also known as the “Yes Means Yes, bill, silence does not equal consent. It applies to all California secondary schools that receive state money for financial aid. Now, three Harvard groups
— Our Harvard Can Do Better, Graduate Students Advocating for Gender Equality and Harvard Students Demand Respect — are advocating for the school to incorporate a definition of affirmative consent into its sexual harassment policy to help ensure “a safe and respectful campus climate. The groups’ petition, launched last week, states that
this standard is a “baseline for confirming that a sexual partner wants to be in that situation at that time. More than 800 colleges have adopted affirmative consent policies, the Huffington Post reported. DANNY MCDONALD @DMacCash daniel.mcdonald@metro.us

US sets up rapid-response team for Ebola; Dallas nurse improves
Dallas
Family that lived with victim showing no symptoms The family who shared an apartment with a Liberian man who died of Ebola in Texas is showing no signs of illness, while the dog of a nurse who contracted the deadly virus is healthy and being cared for, Dallas’ mayor said on Tuesday. Thomas Eric Duncan’s girlfriend, her 13-year-old son and two nephews in their 20s had been living with Duncan before he was admitted to a Dallas hospital on Sept. 28. “So far, no signs of the virus in any of them,” Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said on CNN. “We check them twice a day, and everybody’s healthy.” Rawlings said none of the other people being monitored after contact with Duncan, who died Oct. 8, have gotten sick. There is a 21-day incubation period for the virus that has killed at least 4,400 people, predominantly in West Africa. REUTERS

The United States is establishing a rapid-response team to help hospitals “within hours” whenever there is a case of Ebola, the top doctor leading the response to the deadly virus said on Tuesday. U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Dr. Thomas Frieden, acknowledging the lapses in treatment in Dallas for a Liberian man in late September told reporters: “I wish we had put a team like this on the ground the day the first patient was diagnosed. ... But we will do that from today onward with any case in the U.S.” The nurse who contracted
Ebola from the Liberian patient, Thomas Eric Duncan, in a Texas hospital, said on Tuesday she was doing well. Prospects for a quick end to the contagion fell as the World Health Organization predicted West Africa could produce as many as 10,000 new cases per week by December. U.S. President Barack Obama, addressing defense chiefs from about 20 countries, said “the world as a whole is not doing enough” to combat the hemorrhagic fever and must stop it at its source. The nurse, 26-year-old Vietnamese-American Nina Pham, became the first person infected by Ebola in the United States while caring for Duncan for much of his 11 days at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. He died on Oct. 8. Pham received a transfusion on Monday containing

antibodies to fight the virus, according to a Roman Catholic priest in Pham’s congregation. Duncan did not receive one because he did not match the donor’s blood type. Christian relief group Samaritan’s Purse has said that Kent Brantly, a doctor who survived an Ebola infection, donated plasma to Pham. “I’m doing well and want to thank everyone for their kind wishes and prayers,” Pham said in a statement released by the hospital. “I am blessed by the support of family and friends.”REUTERS

Islamic State. Expert: ‘There will be pressure for US ground forces’ Islamic State is edging closer to Baghdad Airport, having taken control of 80 percent of neighboring Anbar Province. Meanwhile, Turkey has denied it granted the U.S. access to its air base to attack the Islamic extremists. Ivan Eland, senior fellow and director of the Center on Peace & Liberty at The Independent Institute in California, tells Metro there is mounting pressure to bring in U.S. ground troops, especially given Turkey’s reluctance in fighting against ISIS. Are all Western hopes pinned on Turkey?  Yes, because Turkey has a large air base that can be used to bomb Iraq and Syria more efficiently. Turkey has a large and effective army that could be used [on the] ground with allied air attacks against ISIS. The Turkish army is especially important, because the current local ground forces have all proved weak or ineffective against ISIS. Turkey has not yet agreed to use its ground force in Iraq or Syria and may not because it seems to fear the Kurds more than the

Kesha and Dr. Luke sue each other Dr. Luke and Kesha are pictured here together in 2011.
Singer Kesha has filed a disturbingly detailed lawsuit against producer Dr. Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald) alleging more than a decade of sexual and emotional abuse, according to court documents obtained by TMZ. The recently rehabbed singer claims that the abuse started almost immediately after she signed on with Dr. Luke when she was 18 years old, with him making “repeated sexual advances” and forcing her to imbibe drugs and alcohol. In a particularly startling incident detailed in the suit, Kesha says that after being forced to drink with him, she woke up the following afternoon naked in his bed feeling sick and sore with no memory of how she got there. She also blames Dr. Luke for the eating disorder that landed her in treatment, claiming he told her, “You are not that pretty, you are not that talented, you are just lucky to have me.” “This lawsuit is a wholehearted effort by Kesha to regain control of her music ca-

reer and her personal freedom after suffering for 10 years as a victim of mental manipulation, emotional abuse and an instance of sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke,” her lawyer, Mark Geragos, says in a statement to TMZ. “The facts presented in our lawsuit paint a picture of a man who is controlling and willing to commit horrible acts of abuse in an attempt to intimidate an impressionable, talented, young female artist into submission for his personal gain.” So how did Dr. Luke respond? With a lawsuit of his own, of course. Just hours after Kesha’s suit was filed, the producer shot back with a suit insisting Kesha’s claims are lies manufactured in an attempt to get out of her contract. He also says the singer previously tried to extort him. Dr. Luke’s lawyer, Christine Lepera, calls Kesha’s suit part of “a campaign of publishing outrageous and untrue statements,” and insists that both Kesha and her mother have already admitted the accusations are fabricated.

And not only that, but they accompany the announcement with a profile written by Chris Jones that suggests he was the sole judge on the committee that chose her, based on how he writes about the “Volver” star. “She is impossibly beautiful. When she walks into a room, men start walking into furniture. Up close, however, she becomes almost hard to look at, like staring into the most unflattering mirror,” Jones writes. “Cruz has no physical flaws, the bent

The “Fury” star went into great self-deprecating detail about the ordeal during a visit to “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” It turns out that while drunk on whiskey after watching a World Cup match, LaBeouf was given a ticket to the show, starring Alan Cumming and Michelle Williams, by one of its dancers. And it was all downhill from there, thanks
in large part to a very seductive Cumming. “He’s smoking a cigarette, so I think, ‘Oh, it’s that kind of party, I want to have a cigarette, too,’” LaBeouf recalls. Then he noticed Cumming winking at him, so when the actor makes his way through the audience, “I give him a slap on the ass because I think he deserves it. He’s seducing me. Apparently, h sshe not only ticked off tthe hired help but has h drawn the ire of her neighbors o — and they’re so miffed that they’ll m even speak on the e rrecord. “Politicians have the right to h rraise funds, and Gwyneth has the G rright to throw a party, but next p ttime she decides to t throw a pollitical fundraiser, do not do it d on our street,” o neighbor Bret n
Lewis tells Radar Online. “To have this road closed off is a horrible thing. My daughter had an exam the next morning and was very upset, but God forbid someone had a heart attack or there was a real emergency.” Also worth noting: The neighborhood has its own private social network, Nextdoor, and they’ve been going online to gripe about Paltrow. Looks like there may be some new conscious uncoupling happening soon with said neighbors.

Vera Farmiga loves her cast mates Interview. “The Judge” actress really likes the challenge of acting with the greats.
Chemistry
Getting down with Downey You and Downey have some great chemistry. It’s not something that just happens. It can be, but I think it is a skill that you hone, which comes from listening to each other, provoking each other, responding.
Vera Farmiga joins a cast with a very deep bench in “The Judge,” playing the high school sweetheart of Robert Downey Jr.’s Hank, a hot-shot lawyer and prodigal son who returns home to defend his father (Robert Duvall) in court.
VERA FARMIGA WIREIMAGE
The cast here is ridiculous. I know, I know. It’s first-class. It’s what you ache for as an actor, is to be surrounded by greatness — because it lifts your game. And you learn, and you want to watch them, you respect them so much. They may seem daunting, but if there’s any skittishness or nerves you get over it very quickly because of their sensibilities as human beings. They’re very
Vera Farmiga plays one of Robert Downey Jr.’s old flames in “The Judge.” / WARNER BROS. PICTURES
approachable. They’re very open, they’re humble. I spent more time with Downey than I did with Duvall, and yeah he’s this uber rock star, but he’s got a real sense of vulnerability and openness — and even insecurity at times. You know that mega-persona? You don’t feel that when you meet them.
Tired of ACNE?
And I think what makes them great actors is they’re storytellers. It’s not about them, it’s about telling the best possible story. There’s not much time to wallow in any insecurity. You’re no slouch yourself. I’ve got a couple notches on my belt as well. But this
is what you hunger for. Whether you’re working with a heavyweight champion or whether you’re working with a welterweight, it has to do with openness and humility. NED EHRBAR @Nedrick ned.ehrbar@metro.us
How does one provoke Robert Downey Jr.? He likes surprises. Improvisation actually scares me. I prefer scripted improvisation. When the camera is off, I don’t mind tooling around and then taking what works in that improvised rehearsal and then scripting it. But he’s so loose, so carefree, so inventive that it’s really challenging in a scene. He doesn’t like repeating moments. He’s confident enough to know if a camera has got a certain take.

The breakthrough: Sarah Gadon Introductions. The Canadian character actress gets her first big role in a big movie with “Dracula Untold.”
The details
Sarah Gadon Where you’ve seen her: She’s appeared in three consecutive David Cronenberg films, including “Cosmopolis,” in which she plays Robert Pattinson’s wife of 22 days, as well as his film “Maps to the Stars.” Gadon also played the pregnant wife of Jake Gyllenhaal in “Enemy,” and played the half-sister in “Belle.”
On which “Dracula” she loves most: “I grew up with ‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula,’ the Coppola version,” Gadon says, pointing out that “Untold” essentially stretches out its first 10 minutes to featurelength. She was also a total “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fan growing up.

Presents
On what “Untold” adds: “Each version of the story speaks to its specific time. Our film is no exception. It’s taking the Dracula story and putting a contemporary Hollywood stamp on it. It’s using every special effect in modern technical filmmaking to add this visual element, putting it on the compelling aesthetic for which Dracula is so well known.”
Where she is now: She plays the goodly wife of Vlad III Tepes, aka Vlad the Impaler, in the origin story/ reboot “Dracula Untold.” Where she’s going: She’ll be a young Princess Elizabeth in “Girls’ Night Out” and appear in the thriller “The 9th Life of Louis Drax,” with Aaron Paul — both due next year. ACTRESS SARAH GADON STARS IN “DRACULA UNTOLD,” IN THEATERS NOW. / GETTY IMAGES
On graduating to giant productions after smaller films: “I thought it was going to be hugely different, but at the end of the day, it was like any film I’d ever done. You find a connection with another actor and everything in the background just fades away.” On what draws her to David Cronenberg’s movies: “So often you go to the movie theaters and you enter this code of ethics of how we’re supposed to be watching a film. David’s films don’t do that. He doesn’t allow you to watch his films passively. You have to engage when watching them. He’s not afraid to challenge audiences or piss them off or make them work. I remember when I watched Michael Haneke’s ‘Funny Games.’ It was like getting slapped repeatedly. Sometimes you want to go to the movies and eat popcorn, and sometimes you want to go ... and get slapped in the face.” MATT PRIGGE @mattprigge
matt.prigge@metro.us
Why vampires never die (as an art form):
“We return time and again to vampires as a metaphor. It touches on basic human themes of love and death and struggle. It’s a great catalyst to explore these ideas.” Gadon

The original cast of “Ghostbusters” were, from left, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Harold Ramis. / SONY PICTURES HOME ENTERTAINMENT
“Bridesmaids” director Paul Feig confirmed last week that he’ll direct a new “Ghostbusters” film with a female cast, co-written by “Parks and Recreation” scribe Katie Dippold. Ever since this idea was first floated earlier this summer, speculation has run rampant about who might fill out the roster. And who are we to stop something from running rampant? Here some of our favorite team-up ideas.
FOR TICKETS AND INFORMATION PLEASE VISIT WWW.THEWILBUR.COM
THE FEIG ALL-STARS Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Sandra Bullock and Rose Byrne McCarthy and Wiig seem like obvious choices — so obvious, in fact, that Bill Murray already name-checked them as people he’d like to see, along with Linda Cardellini and Emma Stone. (Hey, that’s not a bad lineup either.) But we’d round it out with McCarthy’s “Heat” co-star, Bullock, and the “Bridesmaids” secret weapon, Byrne, who stole the show in “Neighbors” earlier this year.

Mindy Kaling, Casey Wilson, Teyonah Parris and Sarah Silverman What you want in a “Ghostbusters” team is a mix of strong, distinct personalities that won’t drown each other out, and that’s what these four have. Kaling and Wilson are irresistible, and Silverman is always a commanding presence. And “Mad Men” co-star Parris shows some impressive comic chops in the upcoming “Dear White People” and should be on your radar.
Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones, Aubrey Plaza and Retta Given that Dippold is co-writing, it makes sense to look to “Parks and Recreation” for women to strap on the proton packs, and that show has a deep bench of female talent. We already know these four can play awkward co-workers, so why not throw some supernatural elements at them?

Must-have
Create an entryway
“IF YOU HAVE A SMALL RUG THAT YOU LOVE, LAYER IT OVER A JUTE RUG,” SAYS GATES. THIS HELPS WITH MOROCCAN AND ORIENTAL RUGS, WHICH ARE EXPENSIVE.
“First figure our what you need from the space,” advises Gates. “Is it that you need a place to drop keys and mail? Then find a tiny console, find a basket.” The key to decorating this tiny, but essential, nook in your home is finding things that are attractive — but also functional. “It can’t be just pretty and it can’t be just functional, cause then you’re kinda depressed when you come home,” says Gates. She recommends searching Etsy and eBay for items like statementmaking hooks.
Party tips
With the holidays coming up, hosting a party at your apartment is inevitable. Here’s
what to do when you don’t have the square footage for a sit-down dinner.
K.I.S. “With smaller spaces, keeping it simple is super important,” stresses the designer. One way is to serve a limited bar: “Have wine — a red [and] white — and one specialty cocktail. Don’t try to make everyone a different drink.”
Embrace a buffet If you don’t have a dining table that fits a bunch of people set up a buffet, says Gates. This can still be cute. Her suggestion: Start by picking up affordable trays at a discount store like Target. Arrange place settings on each tray and let people spread out where there’s room.
Lighting is key Arrange a bunch of votives and candles “so your tiny place feels — as real estate agents like to say — cozy instead of small,” says Gates.

Biking just got (a touch) safer Cycling. A new “smart helmet turns the protective gear atop your head into a gizmo.
Your thumb will become creepily big thanks to this smartphone life cheat. THANKO
Mobile. If a new phone is too big for you, try this fake thumb extender For those struggling to handle their gargantuan smartphone screens on the iPhone 6 Plus and Galaxy Note 4 (i.e. absolutely everybody), help is literally at hand, thanks to a “fake thumb digit extender. The silicone-based giant thumb — developed by Japanese company Thanko — gives the user an extra 1.5 centimeters to access those hard-to-reach places on the phablet’s interface. Despite the fact that the artificial appendage looks cumbersome and downright creepy, as a stylus it proves to be very useful and also
provides added protection to the screen of your handset. However, according to Thanko, the device will only function if the user’s real thumb makes contact with the conductive material within the accessory. It’s no accident that the fake thumb was born in Japan; the Far East region is particularly fond of the humongous phablet phones, especially from local brands Samsung and LG. The Yubi Nobiiru — which translates as “extended finger — is sold online for $14. WANISE MARTINEZ, MWN
Black box recorders are no longer just for airplanes; the smart technology is now built into headgear for cyclists. The “smart helmet, made by a team of students at Oregon State University in partnership with Intel, includes an LED headlamp and a microphone and above-the-ear speakers to make and receive hands-free calls. The helmet can also sync with a smartphone app and register data such as distance, speed and route. We talked to Kyle Dillon, a senior member of the research team, about why we should be biking with this safety product. Where did you get the idea for the “smart helmet? The idea began with our industry advisor at Intel and his children, because they sometimes crash their bikes. He wished there was a way to retrieve information from the crash, so that he could better understand what had actually happened to his kids. From this sprouted the concept of the “black box, where the crash could essentially be “replayed after the event.
Why get one?
“If a cyclist sustains a serious injury and requires immediate medical attention, the automatic emergency contact and location alert could save someone’s life, says Dillon. “We have the technology and knowhow to make a helmet that is safer than the ones currently being sold. This alone should be enough of a reason for the product.
This “smart helmet crams all kinds of tech goodies into your headpiece. / PROVIDED
What’s the battery life? Our calculations find that the helmet should last for about 24 hours with the headlamp off, and about eight hours with the headlamp on. The helmet has speakers so the rider can listen to music, but isn’t this dangerous? The speakers are mounted inside the helmet, above the ear of the wearer and not over or in the ear. Compared to standard earbuds or over-ear headphones, this is a huge improvement.
Protection, via 3-D printing
Does the technology inside the helmet make it cumbersome? To ensure that the electronics could be encapsulated inside the helmet, we custom designed and 3-D-printed the
exterior of the helmet. Because the 3-D-print material is plastic, the helmet is slightly heavier than a regular helmet.

Feast on fat
Nutrition. It’s no longer the F-word of the food world — if you’re eating the right things.
Disgraced for decades, fat’s reputation is being redeemed one study at a time. Last week,
explains nutritionist Dr. Joshi, the London-based health expert who counts the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow among his clients. Make sure you get vital fats by including these five foods in your diet.
a study published by the University of Illinois highlighted the healing power of oleate, a fatty acid found in olive oil, to reverse heart failure. But the heart isn’t the only organ benefiting from oleate’s superpower. “Fats are important for hormone production, vitamin D synthesis, organ protection and nerve and brain health,”

Nut butters

Seeds and nuts
The American Heart Association recommends eating fish, particularly fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines, at least twice a week. This meat is rich in high-quality proteins and omega-3 fatty acids, which have proved to be excellent for the brain and the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
Here’s some good news: Peanut butter doesn’t have to be bad for you. Joshi suggests introducing some natural nut butter into your diet, such as those made with peanuts or almonds. Go for the raw organic version that’s unsalted and unsweetened to get the good fatty acids without all the other junk added to many brands.
Common misconceptions about cholesterol have led many people to eat fewer eggs. While they do contain a lot of cholesterol, for most people only a small amount will pass into the bloodstream. On the plus side, one egg contains 6 grams of protein and healthy unsaturated fat.
The green fruit is indeed full of fat, but the monounsaturated, hearthealthy kind that lowers bad cholesterol, with half of the total fat provided in the form of oleic acid, which has been praised in olive oil. It’s a good source of vitamins and rich in minerals. The trendy way to eat it is on your morning toast.
Flaxseed, sesame, pumpkin, poppy, almonds, hazelnuts, chestnuts and pine nuts are full of healthy nutrients. In the morning, put five almonds and a teaspoon of flaxseed in your cereal or oatmeal. You’ll be getting a good portion of omega-3s as well as vitamin E, calcium and magnesium.

decrease anxiety, depression, fatigue, and possibly the risk of breast cancer recurrence. Generally, your goal should be to stay as active as possible. The intensity and frequency of exercise will vary among patients, though moderate walking is usually considered safe for most women. If you haven’t been physically active recently, you’ll want to start a program slowly, after talking with your care team. But if exercise has been a regular part of your weekly routine, ask your oncologist about resuming aerobic and strength training activities. A modest investment of time can yield important long-term results. Research suggests that women who walk three to five hours per week may have a lower risk of breast cancer recurrence; some studies have suggested up to 50 percent lower. Although we do not know whether exercise directly causes an improved outcome, similar results have been seen in a number of studies. “Some studies suggest that exercise could make the body more hostile to

Carefully supervised strength training programs relieves lymphedema, a swelling in the arms that can develop when the lymph nodes are removed or blocked. Physical activity can also offset weight gain that might occur during treatment.
Lastly, exercise can help reduce the joint pain associated with aromatase inhibitors, which are frequently given to post-menopausal women who have hormone receptor-positive breast cancer. The Hormone and Physical Exercise (HOPE) Study, for which Dr. Ligibel served as senior author, revealed that daily aerobic exercise combined with strength training can significantly reduce joint pain caused by these drugs, Learn more about the value of exercise for cancer patients at www.dana-farber.org/ exercise. Unlike LASIK, the Visian corrects vision by inserting a delicate intraocular lens-like device atop the eye’s natural lens, which is why the Visian is also referred to as the ‘Implantable Contact Lens.’ All of the refractive surgeons at New England Eye Center are qualified and experienced in performing this brief outpatient procedure to insert the Visian ICL. Because no corneal or other tissue is removed in the Visian ICL procedure, visual recovery is extremely rapid and the ICL can potentially be replaced if the eye’s focus changes over time. Refractive Lens Exchange - If you’re frustrated with reading glasses and bifocals, our refractive specialists perform a procedure known as Refractive Lens Exchange. By replacing your eye’s aging natural lens with a Intraocular Lens Implant customized specifically for your visual needs - and your lifestyle - allowing you to see better, look younger and never have to worry about developing cataracts! Laser Cataract Surgery - For seniors experiencing changes in their vision – or who have been diagnosed with a cataract – New England Eye Center is turning the dream of Laser Cataract Surgery into reality. We are currently among only the top 3% of practices in the country to offer patients the added precision and accuracy of Laser Cataract Surgery using OptiMedica® Catalys™ Precision Laser System. This year, take your vision to the NEXT LEVEL by giving yourself or a loved one the Gift of Sight. Now that’s a Gift that keeps on Giving. A blessed New Year from the surgeons and staff of New England Eye Center.

Horoscope
Libra | Sept. 23-Oct. 22. You’ll have problems with loved ones today. Avoid long, involved discussions or confrontations. Get involved in projects that you can do alone.
Aries | March 21-April 20. Don’t get lured back into a former relationship. You are likely to end up in the same place that didn’t work for you before. Family members will be touchy.
Scorpio|Oct. 23-Nov. 21. Put your needs first. Your creativity will be stifled if you are constantly on the run, taking care of others’ responsibilities. Plan a relaxing evening.
Taurus | April 21-May 21. Be true to yourself. If you are experiencing tension on the job, you should stay away from office politics and share your issues with friends, not colleagues.
Sagittarius | Nov. 22Dec. 21. Check out a long-term investment. If you are working hard just to make ends meet, revamp your budget. Talk to a financial adviser to find a way to ease your stress. Capricorn | Dec. 22-Jan. 20. Have a chat with someone causing you concern. If a situation you face is less than satisfactory, bring the issues out in the open. Don’t let resentment or jealousy fester. Aquarius | Jan. 21-Feb. 18. An argument will not turn in your favor. Once you have aired your opinions, move on. Rehashing the same issues over and over is not going to lead to a solution. Pisces | Feb. 19-March 20. You are exceptionally creative. Surround yourself with people who inspire and enlighten you. You will come up with an idea that has the potential to generate some extra cash.
22
Gemini | May 22-June 20. You will find yourself short of funds if you have not budgeted carefully. Don’t get upset if someone in your life isn’t perfect. Make allowances for the ones you love. Cancer | June 21-July 22. You may be feeling uncertain and unsettled. Keep your mind on your tasks, and avoid emotional confrontations. Opposition is likely if you are too demanding or difficult. Leo | July 23-Aug. 22. A little self-indulgence should be allowed. Pamper yourself with a new outfit or a makeover. Do whatever makes you feel good or updates your look and boosts your confidence. Virgo | Aug. 23-Sept. 22. You may be tempted to help someone, but if you do, you will outspend your budget and fall short when it comes to your needs. EUGENIA LAST
Sykes is out of touch
to think letter writers were too hard on Sykes; now I see his teachings don’t connect with the vast majority. I say get rid of him. It’s not like he needs a job!
Re: ‘3 things to know before you get rich’ (Metro, Oct. 14) I just read blogger Timothy Sykes’ column and all I can think is how pompous, condescending and totally out of touch with reality this guy is. You’re writing in Metro, a free paper, not your millionairemaker class, so how many people reading this actually have to “worry” about $250,000 Lamborghinis or 7,000-squarefoot mansions? I’m willing to bet less than 1 percent. I used
over this disease. President Obama recently addressed the people of West Africa on Ebola. As I listened to parts of the audio of the broadcast message, the president seemed to state, among other things, that you can’t get Ebola from sitting next to someone with it. Do we know enough about this disease for anyone to (reportedly) make such a claim? Then Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick reportedly throws his 2 cents in by saying it’s easier to catch AIDS than to catch Ebola. Once again, is that so? In both these cases, we see a president and governor speaking about

NFL power rankings | by Matt Burke No. 1

The Broncos are obviously playing a first-place schedule, but things are getting ridiculous. They’ve already played the Colts, Seahawks and Cardinals and in the next three weeks they’ll play the 49ers, Chargers and Patriots. They struggled a bit against the Jets this past weekend, but a road win is a road win.

If the Eagles defense looks anything like it looked in the 27-0 shutout win over the Giants going forward, Philly fans can begin clearing out their late January and early February schedules.
Breaking NFL offensive records against the 2014 Buccaneers should come with an asterisk, but Joe Flacco does deserve credit for the type of year he’s having. His touchdown to interception ratio is 12:3.
Only the Chargers and Cowboys have won more games in a row than the Colts, who have rebounded after their 0-2 start. If you had T.Y. Hilton on your fantasy team last Thursday, you were smiling, and smiling a lot.
Shhh. The Browns play the Jaguars, Raiders and Buccaneers in the next three weeks. They get Josh Gordon back about a month from now. Don’t you dare jinx it and say that “P” word. Don’t you dare.

Carson Palmer threw a pair of touchdown passes and was not picked off in his return to the Arizona lineup. Palmer got Larry Fitzgerald going against Washington as the receiver caught six balls for 98 yards.
Aaron Rodgers went into Miami and pulled off the patented Dan Marino fake spike. No one was offended. One thing to watch with the Pack is that Clay Matthews has just 14 tackles this season.
Yes, we were fine with the Panthers’ mini-celebration following a tie. The Bengals should have been fired up to blast Carolina after being embarrassed by the Pats. But Carolina held firm on the road.
If the Bears are a playoff team, they certainly won’t last long. You simply have no idea which Chicago team will show up week-to-week. Stay far, far away from this Sunday’s BearsDolphins game, gamblers.

Much is being made about the amount of carries DeMarco Murray is getting. So, now that the Cowboys are winning, people don’t like the way they’re winning? If you have a horse like Murray, ride him.
It had all the makings of a big-time upset on Monday as the Rams were wearing their 1999 throwbacks. But Brandon Lloyd’s 80-yard TD grab late in the first half changed the game dramatically.
It’d be easy to give the Bengals a pass for their tie against Carolina due to the absence of A.J. Green, who could miss another game this weekend. But how did the Lions overcome their big injury at receiver?
On Sunday against the Patriots, the Bills played like a team whose entire game plan on offense was, “give the ball to Kyle Orton and let him go win this thing.” Fred Jackson? C.J. Spiller? Help this guy!

Texans (3-3)
Like the Broncos, the Chargers also struggled with an inferior opponent this past weekend, allowing a season-high 28 points to the lowly Raiders. Still, San Diego is allowing just 15.2 points per game and only 308.3 yards per game.
This is a reminder that the Dallas “D” gave up the third most yards in NFL history in 2013. The Cowboys are making one of the all-time turnarounds, but the Seahawks’ offense is surely better than just 206 net yards in one game.
The Patriots lost their leading tackler and leading rusher Sunday against Buffalo, but no team in the NFL is better at plugging guys in after major injuries. Great depth is a staple of the Patriots in the Bill Belichick era.
Yeah, how did the Lions look so good on Sunday without Calvin Johnson? Oh yeah, they were playing the Vikings. Remember, this Detroit team is a team that lost at home to Kyle Orton and the Bills just 10 days ago.
Rarely are the Texans going to have a day where Ryan Fitzpatrick has a 109.3 QB rating, Arian Foster has a 100-yard rushing day and J.J. Watt has a touchdown ... and lose. That had to be the most entertaining Thursday game ever.
NHL. Scoring-starved B’s sign veteran wing Gagne The Bruins have been able to find a scoring groove a week into the 2014-15 NHL season and are already calling on some veteran help. The B’s inked Simon Gagne to a oneyear, $600,000 deal Tuesday after Gagne showed he still had some hockey left in him during Boston’s training camp. The former Flyers standout has 597 points to his name in 15 NHL seasons. The 34-year-old wing did not play in the NHL last season. METRO

America chooses Broncos as fave The Denver Broncos are America’s favorite NFL team, according to The Harris Poll, which surveyed 2,543 adults. The Dallas Cowboys, who have been nicknamed “America’s Team” for decades finished No. 4 in the poll. The New York Giants were No. 2, the Green Bay Packers were No. 3 and the Pittsburgh Steelers were No. 5. The Patriots finished in the top 10, according to ESPN. METRO

Celtics, Nets to play shortened game The Celtics and Nets will play a 44-minute game this Sunday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as the NBA attempts to find out if “shorter is better.” A current NBA game runs 48 minutes but the test game on Sunday will have four 11-minute quarters. The game will also feature fewer timeouts. “At our recent coaches’ meeting, we had a discussion about the length of our games and it was suggested that we consider experimenting with a shorter format,” NBA president of basketball operations Rod Thorn told ESPN.

NFL. Analyst Bart Scott says ‘immature’ Jets QB Geno Smith needs to shape up Former Jets linebacker Bart Scott believes quarterback Geno Smith is going down a dangerous road he will likely never win. Scott, a star with the Jets for four seasons and currently an analyst for “The NFL Today” on CBS, is concerned with the current controversy enveloping Smith. Smith has unraveled in recent weeks. He cursed out a fan as he exited the field following a loss to the Lions in Week 4, bristled in an exchange with the media a few days later and then missed a team meeting in

San Diego last weekend. Now he’s blaming the media. “It’s both immaturity and frustration,” Scott told Metro on Tuesday. “As a quarterback, if they were winning, no matter how they are playing, then he would get all the credit. He has to understand how to roll with the punches. He needs a mentor, someone to tell him that he can’t say that. I mean, ROC Nation, he needs to talk to his agent and realize that he’s damaging his brand. What young guys need to understand is that there are [only] so many of these starting jobs.” METRO

Jets coach Ryan praises Revis as best corner in NFL New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan made it clear he wants to move on from the offseason’s Darrelle Revis intrigue, but that doesn’t mean he no longer has a soft spot for the former Jets and current Patriots cornerback. “I’m not going to go there,” Ryan said when asked if he wanted the Jets to resign Revis as a free agent this offseason. “Let’s just focus on the team right in front of us and recognize, hey, the guy’s an excellent player, he plays
