London-based Hailo, an appbased taxi hailing service, will reportedly shut down its North American business operations, including its Boston branch. The closure was prompted by increasing price pressure from competitors Uber and Lyft. Hailo CEO Tom Barr said “astronomical marketing spend required to compete is making profitability for any one player almost impossible.” Hailo had nearly 2,000 cab drivers in its Boston system. It is unclear when the company will halt service. METRO

Park ranger stabbing suspect held on $1M Boston. The man allegedly responsible for stabbing two park rangers suffers from mental illness and has a history of violence. A homeless man with a history of violent attacks was held on $1 million bail during an arraignment Wednesday at Boston Municipal Court on charges he allegedly stabbed two unarmed park rangers in Boston Common in a bizarre and unprovoked attack. UMass Dartmouth student
Lino Rosas, 21, testified that she and Phillipos smoked pot throughout much of that day. “The term, if I’m correct, is ‘fishbowling,’ and that is basically leaving the windows completely up and letting the smoke stay in the vehicle,” said Rosas. “It’s to get more affected by the marijuana.” REUTERS
Boston Common. One ranger, a 46-year-old man, suffered life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in his abdomen and slashed on his back. He was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital where he underwent surgery. The other ranger, age 25, was rushed to New England Medical Center with five stab wounds to his back and abdomen. Both are expected to survive. Prosecutors said Hutchinson was brandishing a knife when the rangers approached him, and a confrontation ensued. After the attack, Hutchinson allegedly fled the Common and entered the Boston Public Garden with responding Boston Police officers in pursuit. Hutchinson tossed an item into the lagoon, then turned on the officers chasing him. Waltham

BU union protests for higher wages Boston University office custodians, mailroom operators, groundskeepers and skilled tradesworkers marched down Commonwealth Avenue during rush hour on Wednesday to demand a fair contract, according to the union 32BJ SEIU. The contract covers about 700 workers, according to the union. corner of Boston’s Old State House and opened last week. Elizabeth Roscio, the society’s library and archives manager, has recorded the condition of each item, made an inventory and placed all the relics in acid-free folders. Roscio says the contents are, overall, in “remarkably good” condition. She has plans to make archival scans or photographs of all the materials. There was little fading of ink or deterioration of paper quality, according to Roscio, which is most likely thanks to the seal of the lion statue. It was evidently tight enough to keep air and water out.

ONEin3 is the City of Boston’s term for Millennials who live in the city. They are called “ONEin3ers” because 35 percent of the population in Boston is between the ages of 20 and 34 years old — the largest percentage in that age group among major U.S. cities. ONEin3ers are 216,213 people strong and make up 48 percent of the Boston workforce. In comparison, the next largest age group in Boston is 35- to 54-year-olds, who represent 23.9 percent of the population, or 147,501 people. When broken down by neighborhoods, Allston (to no surprise) has the largest percentage of millennials than any other Boston neighborhood — 65 percent, or 18,837 people, to be exact. The Fenway (59.2 percent), Brighton (55.7 percent) and the North End (54.8 percent) round out the most popular neighborhoods for Millennials. However, Dorchester has the highest total number of Millennials, 28,441, and Brighton has the second-largest 20-34 population with 25,507 ONEin3ers.

ONEin3ers are single (82 percent have never been married), were born outside Massachusetts (60 percent to be exact), are active (58 percent walk, bike or take the T to work) and they’re a huge stimulus to the Boston economy. Their expenditures add $1 billion per year to the Gross City Product, which in turn supports 22,241 additional jobs in Boston. And now ONEin3ers are connected. In 2004, the City of Boston, and Mayor Thomas Menino, launched ONEin3 to connect Boston’s young population with city government. Today, ONEin3 is Boston’s hub for Millennials to not only connect with each other, but also to connect with resources and events about housing, financial health, entrepreneurship, civic engagement and life in Boston.

Investors Get Money To Work For Them
The rules have changed. Sadly, most people still operate under the old money paradigm: go to school; get a job; work hard; save; invest in a 401k, etc. How’s that working out for you? For most people, it’s NOT!
If you cling to the old money paradigm, you will have to work harder and harder. Investors get money to work for them, instead of constantly working for money. The poor and middle class buy liabilities they mistake for assets. Investors acquire assets.

A second Texas nurse who contracted Ebola flew on a commercial flight from Ohio to Texas with a slight temperature the day before she was diagnosed, health officials said on Wednesday, raising new concerns about U.S. efforts to control the disease. Chances that other passengers on the plane were infected were very low, but the nurse should not have been traveling on the flight, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Dr.
Thomas Frieden told reporters. The woman, Amber Vinson, 29, was isolated immediately after reporting a fever on Tuesday, Texas Department of State Health Services officials said. She had treated Liberian patient Thomas Eric Duncan, who died of Ebola on Oct. 8 and was the first patient diagnosed with the virus in the United States. Vinson, a worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, had taken a Frontier Airlines flight from Cleveland, Ohio to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on Monday, officials said. Time Warner to launch HBO streaming service Strategy. It could be a further catalyst spurring people to dump their cable subscriptions. Time Warner Inc.’s HBO will launch a stand-alone online streaming service next year to make hit shows such as “Game of Thrones” available to people who do not subscribe to cable television. The move to take HBO “overthe-top” — media jargon that means consumers can watch the channel with only a broadband connection —is a significant milestone for a channel long dependent on cable distributors. HBO’s chief executive, Richard Plepler, announced the move during an investor day on Wednesday where Time Warner’s other top executives

Half of those homes subscribe to streaming video services. “These consumers have no access to HBO. It’s a large opportunity that should not be untapped,” he said. Netflix Inc. shares were down 3.1 percent at $435.28 af-

Lawsuit. GM is sued for $10 billion over losses on 27 million vehicles General Motors Co. was hit with its biggest lawsuit so far over serial recalls, brought on behalf of drivers of 27 million vehicles seeking more than $10 billion in compensation for fallen car prices. The would-be class action against GM aims to represent everyone who bought or leased a recalled car from July 2009 to July 2014 and still owns it, or who sold it after mid-February when the recalls started, or who had an accident that destroyed it after that date. “New GM repeatedly proclaimed that it was a company committed to innovation, safety, and maintaining a strong brand,” according to the filing. “The value of all GM-branded vehicles has diminished as a result of the widespread publication of those defects and New GM’s corporate culture of ignoring and concealing safety defects.” Hundreds of individual car-price complaints against GM were combined in two separate class actions, according to a Web post by one of the lawyers against GM. A smaller one, focused on ignition-switch faults in cars made before the bailout, may

GM has asked the judge to rule that his earlier orders, which enabled the U.S. to rescue the stumbling company, bar most of the claims over old cars. According to the suits, 2010 and 2011 Chevy Camaros lost $2,000 in value as a result of recalls. The price drop of the 2009 Pontiac Solstice is $2,900. BLOOMBERG

Lady Gaga and her “Chicago Fire” star beau, Taylor Kinney, have reportedly pledged their love to each other or something like that in a private commitment ceremony, according to the Daily Star. The couple reportedly had a commitment ceremony of sorts before family and close friends at New York City restaurant Joan Trattoria recently. “Gaga wanted something visual, a commitment ceremony with the people who matter the most,” a

Chris Brown weighs in on Ebola — finally! Oh, Chris Brown. You just can’t help yourself, can you? The embattled singer decided to ruminate a bit on the current Ebola crisis, and the results are, well, this: “I don’t know … But I think this Ebola epidemic is a form of population control. S--- is getting crazy bruh.” Indeed, bruh. He did at least follow that up with “Let me shut my black ass up!” To be fair, though, a trip through Brown’s Twitter timeline is always a risky endeavor. In what I’m assuming is a response to criticism over his Ebola comments, he tweeted, “I say what I want. If u don’t like it.... ‘SUCK MY ASS’ ( little Asian girl voice)” which, to be sure, is absolutely charming and not offensive in the least. And more recently, apropos of nothing but cringe-worthy just because it was Brown writing it, we have: “Ain’t nothing like a real supportive woman.” You stay classy, Chris Brown.

Q&A KIRSTEN DUNST MORE ROLES FOR WOMEN The “Two Faces of January” star talks comedy and the pestering paparazzi. There are only three main characters in the new thriller “The Two Faces of January,” and Kirsten Dunst plays the only woman. (The other two are Viggo Mortensen, as a fraudster, and Oscar Isaac, as a con man.) But at least that’s better than no women. “I know when I watch movies and it’s only about boys, and there’s no interesting female characters, I don’t end up liking it much,” Dunst confesses at a recent press meet for “January.” In fact, the film, based on PatriKIRSTEN DUNST GETTY IMAGES
cia Highsmith’s 1964 novel, could have wound up being one of those. For whatever reason, Highsmith was mostly drawn to male characters; her females tend to be boring blanks. Her writer-director, Hossein Amini (“Drive”), did his part to flesh her out, and left the rest to Dunst. “I wanted Colette to be as much of a character as I could. It was there on the page, but then it’s also about the guys,” Dunst says. “That was probably the hardest thing for me, to make her as full as possible. She could have easily been a throwaway

Dunst on the media Dunst is inevitably asked about the recent nude photo leaks, of which she was a victim. She doesn’t answer at first, but chuckles angrily when she learns that one of the men behind it has been complaining about having photos of him spreading online: “Well, now he has to deal with the FBI.” The real paparazzi practically pale in comparison for an old hat like Dunst. Her “January” co-star, Viggo Mortensen, says they got bored with him after he kept giving them boring photos. But they never tire of hounding Dunst.
“They’re worse to women,” Dunst says. “I live in the Valley in Los Angeles, which is as low-key as you can get for living in L.A. ... There’s this one gym, and a lot of girls go there, a lot of models. That’s the one spot they sit at in the Valley. And every day they just get you coming out, sweaty. But it never gets old. role.” In the future, Dunst would prefer to do more femaleheavy films, and even comedies, for which she isn’t always known, despite starring in the likes of “Dick,” “Bring It On” and “Bachelorette.” She says there’s one project she’s debating: a “straight-up girls stoner comedy,” as she describes it. “I love comedies, and I don’t think there’s enough good female ones,” she says. “I love working with women, and you don’t even get to do that very often. That’s why I did ‘Bachelorette’ — I wanted to have fun with girls my age. You hardly ever get to work with other women.” All-girl films, she says, are very different: “You’re not playing the love interest. You don’t have to do that stuff.”

Crying babies are deadly weapons Comedy. Web comic maestro Zach Weinersmith brings his bad science competition back to MIT. In a groundbreaking presentation at MIT last year, doctoral student Tomer Ullman showcased decades of research into babies crying. The sound had long been known to increase fight-or-flight response, and a 2012 Oxford University study had just shown “infant distress vocalizations [to] enhance effortful motor activity” — so basically hearing babies wailing improves whack-a-mole scores. Ullman then announced his revolutionary theory: Babies cry so obnoxiously because their toteable size makes them the ultimate military accessory. Warriors who brought them to battle would fight harder. This theory is, of course, incredibly stupid. Ullman was presenting at the first now-annual BAHfest, a celebration (and competition) of silly, Bad Ad Hoc Hypotheses in evolution created by Zach Weinersmith, the cartoonist behind Web comic “Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal.” It returns to MIT this weekend. “Science presentations are a platform for comedy no one had used before,” says Weinersmith, who presented his own

theory about infantapaulting. “I picked evolutionary biology because it’s understandable by everyone.” Ullman’s presentation took first prize — a bust of Darwin begrudgingly shrugging. “The secret was to present something that kinda, almost, sorta made sense in as serious a tone as possible,” Ullman
says. His seriousness is what sold his presentation. The citations — even the bafflingly scientific phrase “infant distress vocalization” — were entirely real. Most applicants for the competition are grad students. Ullman, for one, got involved in the contest in the most grad student way possible. “I had a more important paper I was supposed to be writing,” he says. “So I did this instead.” Other presentations included speculation into why fish had never evolved higher intelligence: It prevents them from having existential crises about their pointless, brief

pand: He’s now hosting separate contests on both coasts. It’s better now that more people get it’s a joke. “The first time, a lot of people didn’t get the idea,” says Weinersmith. “We got a lot of submissions saying ‘I think this idea might be true.’” Weinersmith insists there is no greater point to the exercise than silliness. It’s not intended to mock the implausibility or constant ad-hoc-ness of evolutionary theories (“I’d hope no one is holding back ideas because of us,” he says) and his greatest fear is that creationists see it as an opportunity to say the show proves their point. But the line between earnestly joking and publishable science is slim. “A few weeks after I did my presentation, I saw a real paper [called] ‘Babies Cry to Prevent Siblings,’” Ullman says.

Caroline de Maigret: ‘Anyone can be Parisian’ Interview. The model’s new book unravels the “je ne sais quoi” behind French style. “People praise the effortlessness of French women, but they don’t realize that it’s actually an effort to look effortless,” says Caroline de Maigret, glancing down at her black sweater, skinny Lee jeans and Stan Smith sneakers. Born an aristocrat, the 39-year-old has never exactly slummed it. Her new book, “How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style, and Bad Habits” — co-written by journalist Audrey Diwan, writer Anne Berest and movie producer Sophie Bas — could read as an ode to the privileged, but the style tome steers clear of preachiness, instead debunking myths in an ironic look at the lives of French women. How did you come up with the idea to write this book? Every time I travel abroad, I’m asked about “La Parisienne.” So I would get a lot a questions, but I also realized that there were a lot of cliches around the Parisian lady, who has kind of been crowned the “ideal woman.” It’s strange for me because “La Parisienne” is actually a lady who doesn’t try to be anyone else or to reach perfection but learns how to deal with who she is and how to play with her flaws instead of fighting them. So with my three friends, we decided to show that these women were everything but perfect. The subhead of the book is ‘Love, Style, and Bad Habits.’ What are your bad habits? My bad habits would be my contradictions such as eating a pizza and having a coffee sweetened with a Splenda. But I consider these bad habits good ones because they are the salt of life, which makes all of this a fun adventure. Who do you think is the chicest Parisian woman? Charlotte Rampling is unbelievably beautiful and incredibly chic. She is feminine with an androgynous edge and, most importantly, she is a bright woman. She might be British, but she is one of the

And I love a man’s Rolex.” most Parisian people ever — just like Jane Birkin or Romy Schneider, who were born abroad but epitomize Parisian style, which is precisely why we made this book. Who is the chicest man? I always say Keith Richards, but my man [French musician] Yarol Poupaud is probably the most stylish man I know. I steal all his clothes — he is the one who taught me to have fun with my style.
How do you take care of your body? Fashion Month was very busy, and I just had my first workout session in a while yesterday. I can’t even walk today! I’m lucky enough to have my own coach who comes to my place, but I hate working out. Then again, I know it’s good for my health and it allows me to eat more. Since the birth of my son, Anton, I’ve been trying to eat organic as much as possible. I also try to go easy on fats and dairy, so if I have a cheeseburger for lunch, I will have a light dinner.
Do you wear makeup? Usually I wear brown mascara, because it makes my eyes look less severe and younger, and I switch to black at night. I’m a big fan of the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat that I use to brighten the eyes, but also as a normal concealer. I put some NARS Sumatra Multiple on my cheeks, but I almost never wear foundation. Even though I don’t wear a lot of makeup, I just designed a collection

A dating guide for the socially anxious
Tips. Looking for love doesn’t have to be so hard.
Dating can be a nerve-wracking experience for even the most confident person out there. For anxious singles, navigating the world of coffee dates, online profiles and bars can be paralyzing.
Dr. Shannon Kolakowski, a psychologist and the author of the new book “Single, Shy, and Looking for Love: A Dating Guide for the Shy and Socially Anxious,” insists that the search for a partner doesn’t have to break your heart or your spirit. “I am sort of a hopeless romantic,” she says. “I want people to be happy and to be in a relationship if they want to be.” We asked her for her tips for anxious daters.
One more tip
Define your ultimate goals “What is it that you want from your life?” asks Kolakowski. “How can we reprioritize to get what you want? Are you valuing your anxiety over a potential relationship?” If you feel like you are letting your anxiety run your life, working on relaxation techniques and tracking your emotions can help you separate your social anxiety from the reality of the situation. “It is only going to get easier with time,” says Kolakowski.
Accept yourself A A lack of self-confidence and a self-acceptance are two tw of the biggest problems anxious people le face, fa says Kolakowski. “You “Y can learn how to accept your anxiety,” she ac advises. “People think ad that th if there is anxiety, that th means I can’t date. Singles. There is a dating site out there for everyone if you know where to look The names of dating sites like Match, OKCupid and Plenty of Fish are instantly recognizable to both daters and non-daters alike. Turns out you’re in luck — there seems to be a dating site for just about every interest, religious group and community imaginable. Here are three of the unique ones we found.

A new charity calendar for dog welfare displays both bark and brawn. Louie’s Legacy Animal Rescue, a New York City-based organization, recently released its annual “Hunks and Hounds” 2015 calendar. The proceeds from the calendar — available at www.louieslegacy.org — go toward saving dogs from “high kill shelters” and helping with medical expenses. Photographer Mike Louis explains how a beautiful body and an adorable doggy raise awareness for a worthy cause.
Celebs vs. canines
Is it easier to photograph Kim Kardashian or a dog? Ha! Trick question! I’ve worked with Kim several times, so she is actually a pleasure to photograph. Dogs are very gratifying to photograph but can be a little distracted at times, unlike Kim Kardashian, who has razor-sharp focus.
How did you come up with the name of the calendar, “Hunks and Hounds”? I felt that combining two very marketable commodities — sex and cute puppies — was a guaranteed success. Do you think dogs are sexy? I think dogs are beautiful in so many ways. They are so loyal, loving and unconditional. I’ve never thought of any dog as being sexy, though. Do you think a guy can use his dog to charm women? I would hate to think that someone would get a dog just to use it as a chick magnet, but if you love and respect your dog, I don’t see the harm in teaming up to charm the pants off people! Did the models enjoy the experience?

The models are all dog-lovers, and since I have worked with most of them before, they happily agreed to donate their time. Do you have pets yourself? I have always been sensitive to the well-being of animals. I used to cry as a young boy
when I watched documentaries about wolves eating rabbits. That sensitivity has grown exponentially since I adopted a sweet pit bull named Oliver. ELODIE NOEL @MetroBos

Study. Cat bites linked with depression Cat-lovers will be sad to learn that their feline friend might be a sign of poor mental health, according to new research. A study, led by Dr. David Hanauer, lecturer of clinical and biomedical informatics at the University of Michigan, found that of 1.3 million patients, depression was found in 41.3 percent of patients with cat bites and only 28.7 percent with dog bites. Surprisingly, 85.5 percent of those with cat bites were women, which suggests that screening for depression could be apt for patients who present to a clinical provider with a cat bite. We chatted with Hanauer, who last month won the Public Health award at the Ig Nobels,

a ceremony honoring odd yet genuine scientific research. Hanauer says he began investigating the correlation between these seemingly disparate health issues after patients came into hospitals with bites and were later found to be depressed. “We are not saying that the
bites themselves cause depression,” he says, “but the bite was what brought a lot of people to the clinic or hospital since it had to be taken care of.” But that’s not where the association ends. “There is some evidence suggested by the work of others that Toxoplasmosis gondii (a parasite known to infect cats and people) could cause mental illness in humans,” says Hanauer. How about Hanauer himself? Has he ever been bitten by a cat? “I had cats when I was younger,” he says, “and I am sure I was bitten, but never so deep that I had to go to the doctor.” DMITRY BELYAEV, MWN

Bar offers something new to a traditional crowd Thursty. Tap Trailhouse may have a broad demographic, but they keep the menu fresh. When you’re opening a new bar or rebranding an old one, you have to strike a balance between intention and execution. Considering that it’s coming off of one of the better rebrandings in recent years, turning the bland Noche into the fine Wink & Nod, Boston Nightlife Ventures has earned the benefit of the doubt when it comes to its latest offering, The Tap Trailhouse. As with Wink & Nod, they’ve looked to the past for inspiration here, albeit a bit further back than the speakeasy era. They went with a colonial inspiration, which shows in some of the menu items (such

can’t stray too far afield. “That’s half the fun of it, being able to work with all demographics,” says Mike Boughton, the beverage director for Boston Nightlife Ventures. “We definitely appeal to the business crowd, happy hour crowd, and we get a lot of residents living in the North End coming over to see us. But at the same

time that strip there has a 21to-25 demographic that we still want to cater to as well.” The cocktail menu moves from what Boughton calls “colonial style recipes,” such as a Privateer rum, black tea, cinnamon and lemon juice iced-tea style tall drink that’s nicely dry and tannic, to the Colonial Flip, made with Bully Boy rum, molasses, Angostura bitters, egg white and a Harpoon Porter, then garnished with nutmeg. Beer cocktails are a big part of the menu, like the Old ‘Gansett, made with Brugal anejo, lime, mint and Narragansett lager. The Fallen Leaves is made with the house cranberry cordial, Oloroso sherry and pumpkin beer. “It really brings out all the fall flavors and some nuttiness,” Boughton says. The Cold Apple Pie has been a hit, with its apple pie cordial (rum infused with apples, cinnamon,
clove and nutmeg) and Bantam Wunderkind Cider. Beer drinkers will find the list appealing. The 24 taps are all from New England-based breweries, with no premium domestics available. Smaller flights can be had, too. The Massachusetts ale flight features the Slumbrew Happy Sol, Bad Martha Martha’s Vineyard Ale, Blatant IPA and Harpoon Boston Stout. “There are so many local breweries that really don’t get tapped into as much as they should,” Boughton says. “If someone asks for a Bud Light, Coors Light, etc., we try to steer them into the direction of something comparable, but local.”

Join the party. You first heard about the frat-rap king years ago, but he is only now releasing his first full album. Hoodie Allen, aka Steven Markowitz, might not be the University of Pennsylvania frat boy he was a few years ago, but he hasn’t outgrown the urge to throw one heck of a rager. “I’m trying to plan a secret party for 200 fans for the album release,” he says. The album, “People Keep Talking,” dropped Tuesday, coming after his selfreleased EP “All American” and five mixtapes. His friends Max Schneider and Ed Sheeran are both featured on the album. “Working with Ed was cool because we’ve been friends for a while, but I think there’s a difference between being friends and getting into the studio where you both have your own way of doing things,” he says. “The core of the album is really about believing in what

After graduating, he got a job at Google, which he quit in 2011 to pursue music full time. “At the time, it was something I felt really good about, but I noticed other people around me were a little unsure,” he says. People might keep talking, but it’s unlikely they’re still expressing uncertainty. EMILY LAURENCE @EmLaurence

Patriots storylines to watch versus Jets
SPORTS
The Pats and Jets are on an even playing field at least st when it comes to fatigue. e. Both teams are working on three days rest and both teams faced big challenges this past Sunday. The Jets were at home, but had to face the dominant Broncos. They lost, 31-17. The Patriots were facing the perfectly average Bills, but had to grab their 37-22 win on the road. Here are three thingss to keep tabs on tonight (8:30 p.m., CBS):
Rap beef
Nick Young backs Iggy Female rapper Iggy Azalea and Snoop Dogg are in a very public social media war, with Snoop getting in digs like “Iggy was a man So says Todd” on Instagram. The West Coast rap icon also said that the Australian sensation resembles Marlon Wayans character from the film “White Chicks.” Azalea’s boyfriend, Lakers guard Nick Young replied on Twitter on Wednesday, tweeting out, “Ain’t nobody worried about no SnoopLion .. This dude Just got thru a midlife Crisis you Go get convertible yet. OG’s out here losin.”

Gotta give Gronk, Brady some help
Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady are both back to shredding defenses after slow starts to the 2014 season. Brady has targeted No. 87 a combined 20 times in the past two weeks and it’s no coincidence that it has resulted in two big Patriots victories. Gronkowski caught a season-high seven balls against the Bills last Sunday and finished with 94 yards receiving. So far this season, “Gronk” has touchdown receptions in four of six games. While the tight end and quarterback are surely now on the same page, both players did take a physical beating
against the Bills. The Patriots would surely welcome some offensive help, particularly from the backfield, with such a quick turnaround this week. Shane Vereen will likely get double-digit carries for the first time this season. Brandon Bolden, James White and/or Jonas Gray will also see some action in the New England running game. The Jets run defense certainly ain’t what it used to be and can’t — to borrow a familiar Jets phrase — “stop a nosebleed.” Denver’s Ronnie Hillman ran for 100 yards in the Broncos’ 31-17 win over New York last Sunday and San Diego’s Branden Oliver torched the Jets for 114 yards in the Chargers’ 31-0 win in Week 5.
Rex Ryan isn isn’t as brash, the overall talen talent on the roster is no longer a at an elite level and the Jets are back to playing the role of the NFL’s N circus clown. Yup, the Pat Patriots-Jets rivalry is back to being bein a rivalry basically only, because New in name on York isn’t living up to its end of the bargain. ba Since Sinc they upset the Patriots Patrio at Gillette in the 2010 divisional round, New York has gone 23-32 23-3 under Ryan. Five of those t 32 losses ha have come from their ne neighbors to the No North and the Jets ha have won just one g game against the P Pats since the 2010 p playoff game. New Y York actually won th the last Pats-Jets m meeting, a 30-27 nailbite biter at the Meadowlands o on Oct. 20, 2013,

thanks — in large part — to a questionable “unsportsmanlike conduct” penalty on Chris Jones. The Patriots are well aware that Ryan and the Jets are no pushover, despite the subpar record. “[Ryan] tests every part of your game,” Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said. “I do have a lot of respect for that from a coaching standpoint, that he challenges you and when he feels like he has you on something he sticks with it. We’ve had our share of good games and he’s had his share of good games. It makes for a great matchup. They’re a great rivalry and we’ve had a lot of meaningful games against them.” The Jets nearly beat the Pats at Gillette early in 2013 as well, falling 13-10. That game was on a rainy Thursday night. Tonight’s short-week tilt is also expected to have some weather issues, with rain in the forecast.
ALFONZO DENNARD GETTY IMAGES
Another QB feast for Patriots ‘D’ The Patriots haven’t exactly faced a murderer’s row of quarterbacks early in the 2014 season. They’ve seen Ryan Tannehill, Matt Cassel, Derek Carr, Alex Smith, Andy Dalton and Kyle Orton thus far. None of them were able to crack the 300-yard mark against the Patriots’ defense and only Smith and Dalton were able to register a QB rating over 100. Stunningly, Jets quarterback Geno Smith will be — statistically — the worst signal-caller the Pats have faced thus far as the second-year man out of West Virginia is averaging just 189.8 yards per game through the air. That’s 34th worst in the league among quarterbacks. The Pats are giving up just 208.5 yards through the air this season, the thirdbest mark in the league, so it could be another long night for the embattled Jets quarterback. New England’s pass defense should feast right now while it still can, because it will be facing some Pro Bowl-caliber arms soon enough in Peyton Manning (Nov. 2), Andrew Luck (Nov. 16), Matthew Stafford (Nov. 23), Aaron Rodgers (Nov. 30) and Philip Rivers (Dec. 7).
