Man allegedly stole dead woman’s cell phone at DTX Boston. Josue Gonzalez, 26, is due in court today after turning himself in on Friday. The 26-year-old Brockton man who allegedly stole the cell phone of a woman who was killed after she stepped in front of a Red Line train at Downtown Crossing last week is slated to be arraigned today. Josue Gonzalez turned himself in to Transit Police on Friday around 9:30 p.m. He is expected to be arraigned at Boston Municipal Court-Central Division for larceny. The phone of the woman killed, who is believed to have stepped in front of an outbound
train shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday, has been recovered, according to authorities. The impact of the train apparently dislodged the phone from her person, and it landed on the T platform. Authorities believe Gonzalez witnessed the fatal incident. With onlookers gawking, Gonzalez is alleged to have walked over to the phone, stepped on it and briefly scanned the area to see if he was being watched before casually pocketing it and walking away. Hours after MBTA Transit Police released photos of Gonzalez on Friday, he turned himself in at that department’s headquarters, located on Southampton Street in South Boston. Authorities do not suspect foul play in the death of the woman, whose identity wasn’t released.

“We would like to (once again) thank our riding public for tips we received relative to this investigation.”
Witnesses said the woman was standing near the platform’s yellow cautionary line before tumbling into the path of the Braintree-bound train, which then was evacuated as emergency personnel responded to the scene. Jackline Moeda told Boston. com, “I’d never seen anything like that in my life. Her friend turned around and I’ll never forget the look on her face. … She just looked in shock, like all of us were.” The Red Line incident came a week after a man died from injuries sustained after he was struck and trapped under an Orange Line train at the Haymarket T stop. A man wanted in connection with the slaying of his girlfriend in Dorchester on Saturday has been found dead. Paulo Rosa, 30, of Dorchester, was wanted in connection with the killing of Audilia DaVeiga, a 33-year-old mother of two small children, near 45 Bowdoin St. shortly after 4 p.m. on Saturday. Police responded to the report of a shooting and arrived to find DaVeiga suffering from life-threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. It wasn’t clear on Sunday whether she died of gunshot wounds. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation, according to Boston Police. Police said Rosa, who lived with DaVeiga, then made statements about hurting himself
and others, prompting authorities to issue a community alert and release a photo of Rosa. Early Sunday morning, about 12 hours after the slaying, Rosa was found dead in a wooded area more than 40 miles south of Dorchester, near the Rehoboth-Swansea town line. Police found his abandoned vehicle off Route 195, according to State Police Col. Superintendent Tim Alben. An investigation into his death is being conducted by Massachusetts State Police detectives. The homicide comes after a week in which there was a spate of five shootings within two days in Boston. It also marks the ninth homicide stemming from domestic violence in the state this year,

Tony’s Metro Magic brings holiday joy to kids in need Giving. Today Metro kicks off its fifth annual toy drive, which lets you help to brighten a child’s holiday. It’s the most wonderful time of the year again — when Metro launches Tony’s Metro Magic, our annual toy drive for underprivileged children in Boston, New York and Philadelphia. This year marks the fifth anniversary of the appeal, which was renamed last year in memory the man who oversaw the project for more than three years, Tony Metcalf, Metro’s longest-running editor-in-chief, who passed away in July 2013 from cancer at the age of 50. There was nothing Metcalf loved more than to see the smile on the countless children’s faces each year as they opened gifts generously donated by Metro readers. “Year after year, we are astonished at how well Metro readers respond to Tony’s Metro Magic,” said Metro CEO and Publisher Yggers Mortensen. “It is wonderful to see the gifts stack up at our Metro offices and to realize that we are all helping to make a needy child’s holiday more joyful.” Once again this year, we’ll be asking readers to contribute what they can to Tony’s Metro Magic, which, since its incep-

In conjunction with Toys For Tots, Metro has established a wish list at the Toys “R” Us website that readers can access by going to Metro.us and clicking on the Metro Magic bar. From there, just choose the toys you wish to donate, pay online using Toys “R” Us’ secure payment system, and your

So starting today, and throughout November and December, we will be reminding readers to donate both in print and online at www.metro.us. This season, we hope you remember the children who will spend the holidays in shelters or who may not have gifts to open. Even one small gift can make a big difference. METRO
In addition to Toys for Tots, Metro Boston is teaming up with the Heading Home, which aims to end homelessness in Greater Boston. The local organization serves more than 1,700 people and has placed 776 families into permanent housing since 2010. Heading Home’s CEO Tom Lorello said Metro Magic gift donations are a vital part to helping families in need get back on their feet. “The homeless families served by Heading Home gratefully accept holiday gifts from our supporters so they can focus their limited resources on saving for a brighter future,” he said. “We are thrilled to once again partner with Metro Magic! Together we are brightening the holiday season for hundreds of homeless children.” METRO

location will not likely open until next year or 2016. The four applicants that were approved and entered the “inspection phase” last week were subject to individual and corporate background checks. Funding, investment sources and business and operational plans were also reviewed. The state will now conduct site visits at the dispensaries and cultivation sites to review security and cultivation operations, among several other things. DANNY MCDONALD

Obama’s choice for attorney general avoids political tangles Loretta Lynch, the 55-year-old native of Greensboro, North Carolina, made history when President Barack Obama made her the first black woman nominated to become the top U.S. law enforcement officer. President Barack Obama defended his plan to use executive powers to implement some immigration reforms, saying in an interview on Sunday he had waited long enough for Congress to act. Germany marks 25 years since fall of Berlin Wall More than a million Germans and people from around the world on Sunday celebrated the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the event that marked the end of the Cold War.
A spectacular 15-kilometerlong string of 7,000 illuminated helium balloons traced the course of the barrier that once snaked through the city, slicing across streets, between families and even through graveyards. They were set free one after another into the night sky, symbolizing the breaching of the Wall by crowds of protesters in 1989. The Berlin

Two Americans freed Saturday by North Korea after a secret mission by a top U.S. intelligence official to secure their release were reunited with loved ones after arriving at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state. “It’s been an amazing two years, I learned a lot,” Kenneth Bae, a Korean-American tour guide and missionary detained two years ago, told media upon his arrival at the base, the Associated Press reported. Bae and Matthew Miller, who had been sentenced to years of hard labor for committing “hostile” acts against the Kim Jong Un regime, traveled to the U.S. accompanied by American intelligence chief James Clapper, who negotiated the men’s freedom in a one-day trip to North Korea, the first by a senior U.S. of-
ficial in about two years. The Obama administration’s efforts to free the men should not be viewed as a “diplomatic signal,” said a senior U.S. official traveling with President Barack Obama to Asia, who spoke on the condition of not being identified. North Korea’s release of its last two American detainees comes as its leader, Kim Jong Un, works to block a diplomatic push to call him before the International Criminal Court for committing humanrights abuses. Bae and Miller were released to ease the pressures facing North Korea at the United Nations, said Bruce Klingner, a senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation, a Washington-based policy research group. Q & A. ‘Human Barbie’ opens up about attack on Halloween night Valeria Lukyanova, the selfproclaimed “Human Barbie,” is nursing facial wounds after reportedly being attacked last week outside her home in Odessa, Ukraine. The 29-year-old model suffered swollen lips and minor head injuries following an assault on Halloween night that she alleged was the result of a two-year hate campaign by anonymous stalkers. Metro spoke to Lukyanova, who gained worldwide fame for her doll-like face.

How did the attack happen? I came back home from a shop with bags and entered the door code when two men rushed from the dark and attacked me. They were waiting, I heard footsteps but did not realize that something like this could happen. I wanted to run, but they tethered me with a rope. I tried to free myself, but they cut my lips. I
screamed. They hit me on the head. Then the second man hit me in the jaw. Then they ran away. Later in the hospital doctors told me that they had to remove two of my teeth. I did not see who attacked me. I only know that they were two men who were as small as I am. You have had threats in the past, so why didn’t you have insurance? That’s true, I receive threats every day. But still nobody dared to do something to me. I’m sure that this attack was made by one of my detractors on the Internet. Because in reality I never have any conflicts. I didn’t have insurance, because I had no idea this would happen. Have you recovered? My “outside” is already in order. But my “inside” is still recovering. The doctors had

How do you feel about what is happening in Ukraine? The authorities are manipulating people to make more money. I’m sure there is mafia involved. Rosalie says in the trailer as his team is shown catching a snake. “I don’t expect anyone to believe us until we show it.” Although PETA said the premise of the show sounds far-fetched, if the description is accurate the snake will be tormented. It added that whether it is a hoax or not, it has asked the network to pull the show.
“Anacondas go days without eating and expend the energy needed to do so selectively. Making this snake use up energy by swallowing this fool and then possibly regurgitating him would have left the poor animal exhausted and deprived of the energy that he or she needs,” PETA said in a statement. Poor Mark Zuckerberg found ‘The Social Network’ ‘hurtful’ In not-so-surprising news, Mark Zuckerberg didn’t enjoy “The Social Network.” The topic of the David Fincher-directed, Aaron Sorkin-written film about the founding of Facebook came up during a live Facebook Q&A. “It was a very interesting experience to watch a movie that was supposedly about my life,” Zuckerberg says. “They went out of their way in the movie to try to get some interesting details correct, like the design of the office. But on the overarching plot, in terms of why we’re building Facebook to help connect the world, or how we did it, they just kind of made up a bunch of stuff that I found kind of hurtful.” Poor guy. So what hurt the most? “They kind of made up this whole plot line about how I somehow decided to create Facebook to, I think, attract girls,” he says. That’s totally wrong! The real reason was that he was tired of playing Farmville alone.

Andy Dick is in trouble with the law, which really shouldn’t count as news, I know, but there you go. So what did the ever-volatile comic do this time? Dick allegedly stole a necklace from a man after an encounter on Hollywood Boulevard last week, according to TMZ. That encounter apparently consisted of Dick riding up to the guy on his bicycle and asking if he could see his chain, reportedly valued at $1,000. Recognizing Dick as a famous person, the guy said yes, at which point Dick took it and rode away. The owner of the necklace reported the theft, and cops spotted Dick this weekend — also while tooling around on his bicycle — and nabbed him. He was

Michael Caine meets Stephen Hawking Interview. Being in a movie about outer space meant the “Interstellar” star got to hang with another legend.
MICHAEL CAINE GETTY IMAGES
What does it take for Michael Caine to get starstruck? Meeting Stephen Hawking will do it. Caine’s work in Christopher Nolan’s new film, “Interstellar,” gave him the chance to become friendly with theoretical physicist Kip Thorne, who in turn introduced Caine to Hawking
— who himself only had one thing on his mind: Caine’s wife, Shakira. When Christopher Nolan explained this project to you, how did you wrap your head around it? Well, I was fascinated by it because I knew Kip Thorne’s book about black holes and all that stuff, and then I found out that Kip Thorne was the technical adviser and that I was going to be … not playing Kip Thorne the person but a Kip Thorne character. That’s why I grew a beard — I wanted to look like Kip. And then he introduced me to Stephen Hawking, who came and saw the movie. What was your interaction with him like? He can hear every word you say, but he can only reply on the computer with a muscle in his eye. One muscle in the

corner of his eye, it’s down to that. I met him in the corridor with Kip, and Kip said, “Stephen’s got a message for you.” I said, “What is it?” He said, “He wants to meet your wife.” [Laughs] He loves the ladies. I introduced him to Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, my daughters. Every pretty girl that was around, I introduced him to the lot of them. Getting to work with Kip had to be an added bonus. It’s a mine of information. I’m not an expert on astrophysics. There were black holes, but then there were wormholes, and I didn’t understand that. You realize how dumb you are. I was all right up until the third dimension, then the fourth dimension. And then when we got to the fifth dimension, I got confused. But the people younger than me can understand it, I’m sure.
Recurring star
Nolan’s regular At what point do you just assume that you’re the voice of reason in Christopher Nolan’s head? I seem to be that all time, don’t I? [Laughs] I’m always the one who’s sort of there representing the people who stayed behind. Like in [the Batman films], I was the realist, saying, “You’re going to do what? You’re going to put on a suit and go to the top of the building?” I seem to represent the people on Earth who don’t go out and actually do the things. But in some cases, as in this picture, I’m the one who thinks it up. Maybe next time he’ll let you go on the mission.
No, I’m too old now. I’m 81. By the time we do another I’ll probably be 84. [Laughs] No, I think it could work, we’ll see what he gets up to. You never know where Chris is going to come from. I’ve done it six times now, and I’ll do it a seventh if he comes up with one. He will, and I’m hoping there will be something in it for me.
At this point, it would be rude of him not to include you. Yeah, he’s got to do it, hasn’t he, really? Otherwise he’ll upset an old guy. NED EHRBAR @Nedrick

‘TOO MANY COOKS’ IS MORE THAN A VIRAL SENSATION ‘Too Many Cooks’ AdultSwim.com
First aired during the 4 a.m. slot on the Cartoon Network, this Adult Swim-birthed short somehow became a viral sensation, despite being powerfully weird. It’s a pastiche of the opening credits of nice ’80s sitcoms, with actors freezing in goofy poses as their names pop up, all against a blood-curdlingly catchy theme song. (And the one here is scarily spot-on. “Too Many Cooks may run 11 minutes but the song will stay in your head for a lifetime.) But it offers more than repetition-as-a-joke (though that would have been funny too). It keeps changing, turning into a work sitcom, then a cop show, then a “G.I. Joe-style toon and so on. And then there’s that pudgy, machete-wielding psychopath who soon hacks up the ever-swelling cast. What starts off snarky turns genuinely creepy before destroying itself in a blaze of glory.

Boston Medical Center is more than a hospital. It´s a network of support and care that touches the lives of hundreds of thousands of people in need each year. The hospital is also the primary teaching afďŹ liate of the nationally ranked Boston University School of Medicine. BMC is looking for exceptional candidates to contribute to our continued growth and success. Our goal is to attract and retain exceptionally talented Nurses to join our dynamic medical community.
Singer Amanda Palmer has had a busy few years. After splitting from her record company, she decided to fund her next album through Kickstarter. What followed next was crazy Kickstarter success, a scandal about how she wasn’t paying the amateur musicians she invited to join her onstage, a wedding to novelist Neil Gaiman and the illness of her longtime friend and confidante, Anthony Martignetti. At the end of it all, Palmer gave a wildly popular TED talk about how important it is for artists to be open to asking for money for their work. She’s now releasing a book about it all, “The Art of Asking, which
covers everything from her days of being a street performer known as The Eight-Foot Bride to how hard it can be to just ask for help. Why do you think people have such a hard time with the connection between art and money? It’s like the intersection of love and money. We have a romance about one, and a pragmatic idea about the other, and it’s hard to see them merge. We don’t like getting our art dirty. As human beings, we really compartmentalize the money department and the love department and the art department, when in fact those things are often interconnected and undeniably linked. So it can be difficult for a lot of artists to even just talk about it, because they want to keep those compartments separate. Were you worried that people were already too aware of what you were writing about? To be truthful, a lot of the stuff in the book is not stuff I’ve covered or blogged about. I rarely talk about my real relationship with Neil.
I’ve rarely touched on my relationship with Anthony. I haven’t talked a lot on my blog about the old days — the beginning and my childhood and The Eight-Foot Bride and that sort of stuff. I sort of blog about my day-to-day existence, and there isn’t very much of my day-to-day existence in the book. It’s a story over the course of a couple of years and what happens leading up to the Kickstarter and the ensuing controversy and Anthony’s illness. How did Neil and Anthony feel about being written about? They were really excited. They both helped write their sections. All of the sections that involve Neil and Anthony, I would draft and then I’d email them over to both of them and ask for clarifications or changes or for Anthony to shape his voice so it was a little bit more authentic and they were right there in the s— with me, helping me write. It was wonderful. LISA WEIDENFELD @LisaWeidenfeld lisa.weidenfeld@metro.us

How dierent do you think you’d be if you hadn’t had experience as a street performer? I don’t think I’d be as open. And I mean that may be my retro, romantic opinion, but I really do think that being a street performer gave me asking balls of steel. And so many street performers understand this point of view. There is an
education about humanity and about perseverance that you get as a street performer that you just don’t get anywhere else because you have to just f—ing deal with whatever happens to you. There’s no sta, there’s no other, there’s no safety, there’s no ticket, there’s just no infrastructure. It is you and humanity, and you’ve got to ďŹ gure it out.

Happy holiday how-to
PLUS
Make this the most wonderful time of the year by taking these steps to avoid depression. Flipping the calendar to November kicks off the anticipation, joy and fun of the two-month holiday season. But those same occasions can leave some people feeling less than jolly, whether it’s because of the looming winter, the prospect of uncomfortable gatherings or not feeling like there is much to celebrate. We got some tips from wellness counselor Anne Parker, of Miraval Arizona Resort & Spa, on how to avoid holiday depression.

Even though alcohol can have the effect of loosening us up, it is actually a depressant, Parker reminds us. “Alcohol consumption has a rebound effect on mood that is similar to sugar and can increase your melancholy and feelings of negativity.”

Expectations about how things “should be” are dangerous, particularly at holiday time when activities and events feel even more significant. “Remember to focus on the things that you can actually impact and let go of the expectations about things you can’t control,” Parker says.

Enjoy the moment
Allow yourself to be fully present and engaged with holiday happenings. Focus on what is going on and fully enjoying what you have instead of dwelling on how you wish things could be. “If you are truly present, you give yourself the opportunity to discover, play, connect and enjoy!”
Sugar is abundant during the holidays, a time when we can easily justify a calorie splurge. But it can spike your energy, followed by a moody crash. Skip desserts like cookies and pies to avoid sugar-related highs and lows — reach for a piece of fruit instead, which has fiber that keeps your metabolism steady.

If old traditions are no longer meaningful or just don’t fit current circumstances, they can become a source of stress and conflict. Transform them to honor what is meaningful while creating something that fits what is important to you now.
With gift-buying, decorating and planning trips, it can be tempting to move your usual workout routine to last place on your to-do list. However, this is the time when it is most important to make sure you are exercising regularly. “Exercise will keep your energy level up, release tension and support a positive mood,” Parker advises. “Exercise is the No. 1 way to keep melancholy at bay!”

an easy thing to cut back on when the holidays are in full gear. Make sure you’re giving yourself adequate time for nourishing sleep.

Stay connected
Or, in other words, don’t sweat the small stuff! “Focus your attention and energy on what is most meaningful and congruent with the holiday experience you want to create for yourself and others,” Parker says. “Putting pressure on yourself to have all the details and minutiae perfect is a quick way to plunge yourself into frustration, anxiety and a negative mood.”
All the obligations and endless to-do lists of the holidays can be overwhelming and lead you to lose touch with what supports you the most. “Be careful not to isolate yourself or withdraw from life — people, activities, animals, nature, God, spirit,” Parker says. “That disconnect creates the opportunity for sadness, regret and disappointment to take over.”

Health
Colleges are making it easier to avoid the flu While several prominent American colleges have publicly spoken about their plans to protect their students and faculty from Ebola, much less has been said or done to fight the flu — a virus that, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, hospitalizes over 200,000 Americans annually. Many colleges and universities have decided that the easiest way to get students vaccinated is to simply go to where the undergrads are. The Huffington Post notes that Swarthmore College has announced that it would be setting up vaccination clinics in campus dining halls. (Each shot costs $25, a fee that is covered by most insurance plans.) And school administrators at the University of Pennsylvania say they have already vaccinated 2,500 people at clinics set up around its campus. LAKSHMI GANDHI

Make the most of a college campus visit Tips. Take this expert’s advice on what to consider when searching for the right school. Like many high school seniors, Eileen Hurley is both excited and nervous at the thought of graduation and heading off to college. To find the right schools for her, Hurley and her family are spending time visiting campuses. Currently, Hurley’s favorite is Syracuse University; the Queensbury, New York, native says she’s drawn to the largeschool atmosphere. “A big thing for me is the sporting events,” says Hurley, who is also applying to High Point University in North Carolina and Skidmore College. “I would love to be at Syracuse basketball games that are completely sold out. ... And
every day you would be able to meet new people.” Much like with any successful shopping trip, it helps to know what to look for when visiting schools — a daunting task for most high school seniors. “You have to think, ‘Where will I be the most happy?’” says Suzanne Luse, the founder of College Expert, a college consulting group. Keep these questions in mind when visiting college campuses, Luse suggests: Use caution
Avoid this mistake Whatever you do, don’t judge the entire student body by your tour guide. “You might have a tour guide who is having a bad day,” Luse says.
Would you do best at a small college or a large university? “The best way to see if you match up with a school is to go to the information session,” Luse says. “That’s when you will get an idea of the class sizes, what majors they have and do you fit in with the SAT score range and GPA.” It’s also important to ask yourself what kind of learning environment works best for you. For example, are intimate classrooms more your thing, or do you prefer the impersonal quality of large lecture halls? Do you see yourself fitting in? Tours, each led by a current student who is extremely competent at walking backward, will give you a good idea of the campus scene. “This happens in most cases during the tour,” Luse says. “Is there a Greek system? Is this a rah-rah campus with

sports? Is it more nerdy or preppy? Are these students you would want to spend the next four years with? That’s what the student needs to identify.” Do you like big cities or small campuses? “Drive around the area to get a feel for what it’s like,” Luse says. “For students coming from out of state, you have to think about how easy it will be to get there and where the airports are.” Some students love rural settings full of quiet and haystacks, while others thrive in the noise and pace of a city.
Tip
Don’t forget to consider the price tag “You have to think about whether your family can afford this college,” Luse says. “This is something parents pay more attention to, but students need to keep this in mind as well.” MOLLY CONGDON @MetroBos letters@metro.us

JOBS
Being a ‘rookie’ on the job may be key to success Career track. A former tech executive says new employees are the key to innovation. The first few months of a new job are often filled with stress as the newcomer navigates his or her way through a sea of new faces, new rules and new challenges. But a new book argues that being the new kid on the block in a new company or field can also lead to increased creativity and some of the best moments of your career. “When we’re in this rookie mode is when we tend to do our very best work, says Liz Wiseman, the author of the book “Rookie Smarts: Why Learning Beats
Knowing in the New Game of Work. “There’s brilliance in it. A rookie move isn’t a mistake or a disaster but is actually something that is innovative. Wiseman says that companies and managers should adjust the way they look at career changers and new employees. “Rookies come in without the mentality that it will take years of paying their dues before they can contribute and they tend to work a lot faster, she notes. Here are some things reallife rookies should keep in mind as they navigate the workplace.
1
There is no honeymoon period. “Rather than be nervous, [realize] that this is where you are going to do your best work, says Wiseman.

“Instead of seeing those first six months as a write off and kind of being in learning mode and not being expected to contribute, actually the first six months is when people are valuable.
2
Ask smart questions. “Start reaching out to people who know [the lay of the land], says Wiseman. “And that humble request for help is likely to kick in somebody’s mentoring genes. Oftentimes, says Wiseman, it’s during the rookie period that people find a strong network of colleagues who will vouch for them down the line.
The time is now
Age is just a number “It’s never too late to be a rookie, stresses Wiseman. “Professionals who are able to use their hard-won experience but are still able to tap into their rookie smarts will build a culture of innovation.
New to the job? Now is the time to be creative. / FUSE
3
Don’t be arrogant. No one has made friends by bluntly criticizing the way things are done. “I think approaching anything by saying ‘I have a better way’ is not going to go over well, Wiseman notes. “I think the best approach, the humbler approach, is to think ‘what can I learn from you, what can you teach me’ and then just deliver fast and I think just show them. A willingness to learn from your colleagues goes a long way.

Build a record of success. “You have to show you have a track record of success in rookie assignments, says Wiseman. “If you could show a trend of that, hiring managers will see that what you have is learning agility. Developing an ability to
think quickly on your feet is key to success. As Wiseman notes, “learning agility is forever; skills are ephemeral. LAKSHMI GANDHI @LakshmiGandhi lakshmi.gandhi@metro.us

Pats 2014 stock report
MATT BURKE @BurkeMetroBos
↑ matthew.burke@metro.us
↑
Stock up: Tom Brady
Stock down: Danny Amendola
Remember the Patriots’ pre-season? That’s OK. No one does. There was zero indication in the pre-season that Tom Brady was about to endure a few regular season weeks in which people were going to question whether or not he was washed up. Brady was magnificent in his two pre-season appearances as he had an average QB rating of 116.5. Four games into the real season, he had an average QB rating of 81.05. These past five weeks, Brady’s average QB rating is 119.9 and he is suddenly an MVP candidate again. It’s safe to say his stock is up.
Danny Amendola, since signing as “Wes Welker’s replacement” t” in March of 2013, has been the epitome of invisible. As bad as he e was in 2013, he at least had three gamess in which he had over 100 yards receiving last season. This season, he has only one game in which he’s caught three or more balls (Week 1 in Miami) and only one game in which he’s had over 20 yards receiving (last week against Denver).
Stock up: Brandon Browner
The sample size is miniscule, but Brandon Browner’s Patriots career has been tremendous so far ass far as team results go. o. The 6-foot-4, 221-pound corner has seen action against nst the Jets, Bears and Broncos roncos these past three weeks ks and none of those opponents nents scored more than 25 points. Opposing quarterbacks cks in those games have had ad a 92.7 QB rating average.

Most Patriots fans would have signed for a 7-2 record by the Week 10 bye at the start of the 2014 season. While the Pats definitely took an unconventional route to get to the top of the AFC standings, starting the season 2-2, the expectations surrounding the 2014 Pats are as high or higher than they were on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 7 — opening day of New England’s season. We take stock of the team with seven games to go:

Stock down: Shane Vereen
Stock up: Brandon LaFell
Shane Vereen is a tantalizing talent, a player that on his best day looks like Marshall Faulk circa 1999. He thrives as a pass-catching back, and his numbers in that department have been steady. In terms of Stevan Ridley’s full-time replacement as a ball-carrier out of the backfield, however, Vereen doesn’t exactly dominate. Including the Buffalo game in which Ridley was lost for the season, Vereen has averaged just 24.5 yards per game on the ground since he became option No. 1.
Wide receiver Brandon LaFell was not targeted by Brady in Weeks 1 and 2. Strange enough, LaFell’s breakout game came in the blowout loss to the Chiefs as he caught six balls for 119 yards. Brady has not been shy about throwing to the receiver since that game. Despite some key drops, Brady has developed a good amount of trust this year with the former Carolina wide out. In the past two weeks alone, LaFell has been targeted 25 times by Brady.

B’s shoot for fifth straight The Bruins (9-6-0) will be looking to extend their winning streak to five games Monday night when they host the New Jersey Devils at TD Garden (7 p.m., NESN). Boston last played on Thursday night when it beat Edmonton, 5-2. New Jersey comes to the Hub with a 6-6-2 record. Bruins defenseman Torey Krug is “a possibility” to return from injury on Monday night, according to ESPN.

Cowboys 31, Jaguars 17 All of Dallas’ big guns showed up in London Sunday as Tony Romo threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns, DeMarco Murray ran for 100 yards on 19 carries and Dez Bryant caught six balls for 158 yards.
•
Chiefs 17, Bills 13 Kansas City couldn’t find the end zone until the fourth quarter, but Jamaal Charles’ 39yard touchdown run with 13:30 remaining and Alex Smith’s eight-yard scramble across the goal line with 8:59 left gave the Chiefs a come-from-behind road victory.
•
Tony Romo looked plenty healthy in London, throwing three touchdown passes, as Dallas dumped the Jags. / GETTY IMAGES
Lions 20, Dolphins 16 Matthew Stafford’s 11-yard, sidearm touchdown pass to Theo Riddick in the corner of the end zone with 29 seconds remaining gave the surging Lions a victory over the Dolphins on Sunday at Ford Field. 49ers 27, Saints 24 Colin Kaepernick’s 51-yard pass to Michael Crabtree on fourthand-10 from the 49ers’ own 22 with 1:34 remaining kept the 49ers hopes to tie or win the game alive. Phil Dawson’s 45-yard field goal would force overtime, where the 49ers would eventually grab victory thanks to
an Ahmad Brooks strip-sack of Drew Brees. •
Ravens 21, Titans 7 The Ravens (6-4) harassed Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger early and often in Baltimore on Sunday as they sacked the rookie five times and only allowed him to throw for 179 yards.
•
Jets 20, Steelers 13 The Steelers (6-4) cemented themselves as the biggest “trick-or-treat” team in the NFL, falling to the Jets (2-8). Michael Vick was more efficient than Ben Roethlisberger as Vick threw a pair of touchdown passes.

Revs blow by Crew, move to East finals MLS. The Revolution advanced to Major League Soccer’s final four for the first time since the 2007 season. The New England Revolution are moving on to the MLS Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2007 thanks to their 3-1 victory over the Columbus Crew on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. The 3-1 win coupled with the Revs’ 4-2 win over the Crew the previous weekend in Columbus, Ohio, allowed New England to advance with relative ease. Lee Nguyen continued his hot streak, popping in the Revs’ first goal Sunday night, while Jose Goncalves and Teal Bunbury also found the net. Bobby Shuttleworth made six saves in the New England victory.
Seeking women (18-45 years old) with Anorexia Nervosa for a research study looking at the effects of a new drug on gastrointestinal symptoms in women with anorexia nervosa
The Revs now turn their attention to the New York Red Bulls, which knocked off topseeded D.C. United this past weekend. The two teams will not tangle until Nov. 23 at Red Bull Arena, which will be the first leg of another aggregate series. The second leg will take place at Gillette Stadium the weekend after Thanksgiving. The Red Bulls be an easy out for the Revolution. In fact, New York might have the Revs’ number. The Red Bulls won both regular season meetings with New England, the latest coming in Harrison, New Jersey, on Aug. 2, when the Red Bulls were victorious, 2-1. Charlie Davies tallied his first MLS goal since 2011 in that contest, but New York came back with two second half goals to grab the win. Bobby Shuttleworth hasn’t allowed more than two goals in a game since mid-July. / GETTY IMAGES
