Report: Job growth in city fastest in 24 years Manhattan. The comptroller’s report said that while lots of jobs were being added, many were low-wage. Job growth in the city is rocketing upward, rising more in the third quarter of 2014 than any quarter since 1990. City Comptroller Scott Stringer released the jobs report on Thursday, which found private-sector growth was up by 5.4 percent with an estimated 47,000 jobs added. The national rate of job growth for the same period was 2.1 percent. “Venture capital investment in our region’s burgeoning start-up economy has surged, the real estate market has continued its strong pace and tourism remains on an upswing,”

Stringer said. “The city has put another strong quarter in the books as we head to the end of 2014.” Stringer said jobs are being added faster in New York, but expressed concern that many of the new positions were for lowwage industries. “The economic recovery is not reaching the middle class of our city,” Stringer said. “We need to continue to find the on-ramps to opportunity for every New Yorker and emphasize the importance of educating our children so that they can fully participate in the 21st century economy in our own great city.” The comptroller’s report took into account data such as unemployment rates, job growth, gross city product, real estate, hotel occupancy and public transit numbers.

City to mull ‘Right to Know Act’

The bill would ask cops to get written or recorded evidence before they intended to do a voluntary search. / GETTY IMAGES

City Council members are considering a bill that would require police officers to get written or recorded consent from individuals they intend to search on a voluntary basis. The “Right to Know Act” would not apply to those who have a warrant for their arrest, or if the officer has probable cause. Currently, officers are not required to inform

people who are not under arrest that they have a right to refuse a search. The legislation is cosponsored by Councilman Antonio Reynoso of Brooklyn and 18 other council members. They believe the law, if passed, would protect an individual’s Fourth Amendment right against unnecessary search and seizure, and help build better relationships between the police department and

communities of color. The bill also requires officers to identify themselves during a law enforcement encounter. Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch called the bill a “poorly conceived idea … that starts with the belief that aggressively fighting crime to keep communities safe is a bad thing.”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Thursday that $21 million in storm resiliency repairs and upgrades have been completed at Coney Island Hospital. The southern Brooklyn hospital was evacuated during Superstorm Sandy in 2012, when flooding damaged the hospital’s equipment. Two other area hospitals had to be evacuated during the storm. The upgrades are expected to protect hospital equipment from any future flooding, save $1.5 million a year in energy costs

The project is funded by the NY Power Authority, the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation, and National Grid. Other upgrades came from FEMA, and the agency is providing $900 million to the hospital. “The prognosis for Coney Island Hospital’s future has never looked better, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said. Celebrate Colombian culture through music this weekend LES. Saturday is the annual Encuentro NYC Colombian Music Festival. For pianist and composer Pablo Mayor, “harnessing the groove” is a priority. It’s kept his audiences gyrating for 33 years, especially when Mayor is performing what he calls “Folklore Urbano” — a style blending “urban” sounds with traditional music from his native Colombia. You can catch it Saturday at the annual Encuentro NYC Colombian Music Festival. Over 30 musicians and dancers spend four hours running the gamut of rhythms and styles. This year, the fest is dedicated to Mayor. Growing up in Cali, Colombia, Mayor was drawn to jazz music by musicians

“It is a dream for any musician to live in New York City.” Pablo Mayor like Satoshi Takeishi, Kike Santander and Juan Vicente Zambrano. After earning an M.A. in Jazz Arranging at the University of North Texas, he became a professor of jazz at Universidad Javeriana in Bogota. But eventually the bright lights and big city drew him to

NYC in 1999. “It is a dream for any musician to live in New York City,” he says. Founding the 12-piece Folklore Urbano Orchestra, Mayor blended long-forgotten Colombian folkloric melodies with contemporary jazz, which quickly won the admiration of au-

diences throughout North America. His experiences inspired the Encuentro NYC Colombian Music Festival in 2003. “The mission is not only to nurture the musicians,” he says, “but to educate the international community on the richness of Colombian music and make Colombians feel proud of their heritage.” This year’s fest features Salsa, Cumbia and Huapango performances by musicians like harpist Edmar Castaneda, big-band leader Gregorio Uribe and classical guitarist Nilko Andreas Guarin. Dance also plays a role. Together with Daniel Fetecua — artistic director of Pajarillo Pinta’o Dance Company — Mayor established AMALGAMA, which combines contemporary choreography and original music based on the traditions of Colombia. “Folk-

Obama to shield up to 5 million immigrants from deportation Showdown. The move sets up a face off with the GOP, who have blocked Democrats’ immigration plans. President Barack Obama plans to announce an overhaul of U.S. immigration policy through executive action that would shield up to 5 million undocumented immigrants from deportation, The New York Times reported on Thursday. The Times, citing unidentified administration officials with direct knowledge of the plan, said Obama’s proposed overhaul may be announced as soon as next week. Officials said it would allow many parents of children who

The Times said Obama’s plan will provide more opportunities for immigrants with high-tech skills and add security resources to the border with Mexico. Undocumented immigrants with family ties in the U.S. and no criminal record also would be considered lower priority for deportation than those with criminal records or who are considered security risks. Republicans, who won control of Congress in Nov. 4 elections, have warned Obama not to take unilateral action on immigration. Obama told congressional leaders last Friday he was committed to using executive powers to ease some restrictions on undocumented immigrants since

Americans are quitting their jobs more, and that’s a good thing In a paradoxically good development for the U.S. economy, Americans quit their jobs in September at the fastest rate in over six years. Other data on Thursday showed the number of new jobless claims rose last week but remained near a 14-year low, and the two readings suggested the U.S. labor market was moving toward full health. “It’s definitely good for wages,” said Joseph LaVorgna, chief U.S. economist at Deutsche Bank. “Also, the chair of the Federal Reserve is looking at it, and if

she’s looking at it, we have to as well.” The Fed last month gave an upbeat view of the jobs market, saying that labor market slack was “gradually diminishing.” Thursday’s data also showed the rate of hiring, which occupies another place on Yellen’s dashboard, rose in September. The job openings rate, which has already returned to the levels seen just before the recession, fell. REUTERS

Grand jury testimony in black Missouri teen’s death almost finished Outcome. The Ferguson area braces for protests following the decision. The grand jury considering whether to charge a white Missouri police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black teen in August appears to be approaching the end of its process, lawyers for the family said. A private pathologist hired by the family of 18-year-old Michael Brown was to testify on Thursday after the grand jury, which meets in secret, asked to hear from him and may be one of its final witnesses, attorney Anthony Gray said. “The Brown family

sends a passionate plea this morning to law enforcement and to those that support justice for Mike Brown Jr. to allow cooler heads to prevail in times of adversity,” Gray said. A spokesman for the

county prosecutor did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Officials have previously said the grand jury was expected to reach a decision this month on whether to indict the officer, Darren Wilson, who shot and killed Brown in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson on Aug. 9. Residents and officials are bracing for a possible new wave of unrest if the grand jury decides Wilson should not face a trial on criminal charges. “The Brown family sends a passionate plea this morning to law enforcement and to those that support justice for Mike Brown Jr. to allow cooler heads to prevail in times of adversity,” Gray said. Government warns on bug in Apple’s software The U.S. government warned iPhone and iPad users on Thursday to be on the alert for hackers who may exploit a vulnerability in Apple’s iOS operating system that would enable them to steal sensitive data. There was the potential for hacks using a newly identified technique known as the “Masque Attack,” the government said in an online bulletin from the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center and the U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Teams. The network security company, FireEye Inc., disclosed the vulnerability behind the “Masque Attack” earlier this week, saying it had been exploited to launch a campaign dubbed “WireLurker” and more attacks could follow. Samsung starts to chase the curved smartphone trend Samsung Electronics aims to restore its crumbling lead in the global smartphone industry in part by ramping up high-end devices with curved screens full of advanced technology that’s tough for rivals to replicate. The collective industry move toward larger screens makes distinctive designs tougher to achieve, said Kim Nam-su, a senior Samsung Electronics designer and an architect of the Note Edge. Dark side. European space probe marooned in comet’s shadows A probe that landed on a comet in a first for space exploration has ended up in the shadow of a cliff, about a 0.6 miles from its intended resting place, the European Space Agency said on Thursday. The lander, named Philae, was released from its mothership Rosetta on Wednesday as it orbited comet 67P/ChuryumovGerasimenko, in the climax of a 10-year mission for the ESA. But harpoons to anchor it to the surface failed to deploy and it bounced twice before floating to rest two hours later. The ESA needs to analyze data beamed 300 million miles back to Earth to pinpoint its location. “Where we are is not entirely where we wanted to be,” lead lander scientist Jean-Pierre Biebring told a news conference. The ESA has published pictures of the comet and images of the 220-pound lander — virtually weight-

“Do not put the emphasis on the failures of the system, it is gorgeous where we are now.” Biebring less on the comet’s rocky surface — and said it was operating normally. In the shadows, Philae’s solar panels, which were meant to power the

probe when its batteries run out on Friday, get only an hour and a half of sunlight a day, instead of the expected six to seven hours. The probe could try to use its landing gear to hop out of the shadows, but ESA will need to know more exactly where it is before attempting the risky maneuver, scientists at the ESA’s space operations center in Darmstadt, Germany, said. Tainted drugs suspected in sterilization deaths India. Thirteen of the women have died and scores are in hospital after botched surgeries. Tainted or substandard drugs probably led to the deaths of 13 Indian women after sterilization surgery at a family-planning “camp,” and owners of the factories that produced them have been summoned for questioning, a senior official said on Thursday.

PROGRAMS HAVE SPACE TO GROW I’m a bit of a space geek. I remember as child walking on a freezing winter night into an Illinois farm field and watching a lunar eclipse. And I sat transfixed by the grainy black and white TV images of Neil Armstrong hopping onto the moon. And even now, I love staring into the infinite blackness, watching satellites glide silently overhead. My older daughter will soon graduate from the great Georgia Institute of Technology as an honest to goodness rocket scientist. I like to think she got just a little of that from me. “What is that constellation, Dad?” “Well, dear, I think that’s Meyer the Hat Maker.” So you can imagine my excitement over the hightech speed date underway right now between a space probe and a comet more than 100-million miles away. This rendezvous took place with all involved traveling roughly 41,000 miles an hour, or in layman’s terms “pretty damn fast.” If you could drive that speed, you could travel from New York to Los Angeles in four minutes, and honestly, the first

Virus. Mali toughens anti-Ebola checks at border crossings Mali announced tougher health checks at border crossings after registering its second Ebola outbreak, while Liberia on Thursday signaled progress in neutralizing the virus by saying it would not renew a state of emergency. The world’s worst ever epidemic of Ebola has killed at least 5,160 since it erupted in March in West Africa, a region dogged by poverty and poor health care. It has ravaged Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea and spurred a global watch for its spread. In Mali a nurse died of Ebola on Tuesday, and

hour and a half would be spent just getting out of Jersey, right? Anyway, the hope is that this probe is now going to ride this comet across the solar system like Slim Pickens on the bomb in “Dr. Strangelove,” collecting data about the origin of the universe, life on Earth, and maybe we’ll even find out why anyone even bothers to keep up with the Kardashians. It is all fascinating to me. Working here in D.C., I know the space program, NASA, is unlikely to ever command the sort of public enthusiasm and government funding it once did. I understand. Many folks feel their tax dollars are stretched thinly enough already. But the technological advances enjoyed by societies who attempt such amazing feats as landing on a comet are undeniable and profound. Think about it: The rocket carrying this probe launched in 2004 when Facebook was a brandnew idea. If nothing else, that is pretty darn inspiring.

Obamacare. Open enrollment begins again Saturday on federal and state health insurance marketplaces. Last year’s rollout of the Affordable Care Act’s health insurance mandate

was, generously put, not without its flaws. But as open enrollment through the insurance exchanges resumes Saturday through Feb. 15, the process of finding affordable coverage likely won’t be as glitch-prone, given that there won’t be a similarly massive influx of sign-ups. Still, experts aren’t sure what to expect from the next round of applications.

Did you know?

Nearly seven in 10 consumers who selected plans with tax credits through the federal marketplace during open enrollment pay $100 a month or less for coverage. Nearly half (46 percent) were covered for $50 or less.

“We can’t predict what will happen this year, or whether open enrollment will be an annual occurrence, but 3.7 million Americans enrolled for insurance through the ACA marketplace over the past year,” says Shane Power, president of Watertree Health, a network of over 200 representatives working to improve access to health care. Power sees good health care as a three-part system, with insurance companies, doctors, pharmacists and the insured person having a role. “The cycle of health care starts with the provider and going to see a doctor, then there’s prescription medication access and then there’s personal upgrades an individual can make to their lifestyle,” Power says. “The good news is that better education and health care awareness by many organizations is leading to people being healthier.” Need help? Prescriptions

Seeing a doctor isn’t enough The millions of newly insured Americans have already affected the health care system, Power says: “We do know that sign-up resulted in an increase in the amount of people who went to see a doctor. That’s good news. But what’s interesting is that many of those people are not necessarily filling their prescriptions. One in four prescriptions written are not being filled.” Power couldn’t speculate on the reasons for this gap, but notes that the cost of medications also remains a serious hurdle for many people. “While the good news is that the amount of patient care is greater and more people are seeing doctors, the lack of prescription filling might be due to prohibitive costs,” he says. “The amount of subsidy can change so quickly; one week a medication might be federally subsidized and the next it won’t, and the cost goes up exponentially, leaving patients unable to afford their medications.”

Meet the new Rockette Dance. Becoming a Rockette is a dream come true for new member Shelby Finnie — who’s just 19 years old.

The day the Rockettes came to Charlotte, North Carolina, and performed “The Parade of the Wooden Soldiers,” young Shelby Finnie was bewitched. “I just remember thinking, ‘I want to be a part of that magic someday,’” she recalls. At 19, her dream came true. After an exhausting series of auditions in August, she received the phone call that very few get. “It was a dream of mine for so long,” she gushes, “and when I finally set foot on that stage, it was a moment that I’ll never forget.” But since the start of the holiday season, there’s little breathing space for her to relish the moment. The “Radio City Christmas Spectacular” is already in full swing, running 2-6 shows per day, with the highlights in-

cluding the resurrection and reimagining of the 1940 routine, “Rag Dolls,” in which the Rockettes come to life as rag dolls in Santa’s workshop, and “Snow,” which displays the Rockettes’ technological updates with GPSenabled snowflakes that transform the entire theater into a winter wonderland. It’s a challenge for Finnie and the other 79 Rockettes, and it requires just as much strength of body as of spirit. “A lot of people don’t know that what the Rockettes do is very athletic,” she points out. “We’re athletes as well as artists.” In fact, when Finnie tells people she’s a Rockette, it’s sometimes hard for them to believe she’s even human. “People are in shock a little bit,” she laughs, “because they don’t think of a Rockette as being a normal person every day on the street. We’re actually real people; we still take dance class and go to the grocery store.” Another aspect of the show the audience doesn’t see or appreciate is that the precision that the Rockettes demon-

strate onstage in 1.5-hour installments also happens behind the curtain. “Once we go offstage,” Finnie explains, “the backstage life is just as choreographed as when we are onstage, because every quick change, every step you take, has to be calculated in order for the show to run smoothly.” Perhaps the sweetest moment of any performance for Finnie is catching sight of a little girl in the front rows, which inevitably reminds her of the day she first saw the Rockettes. “It’s a full-circle moment

to think that I’m inspiring another little girl to become a professional dancer. It makes me so happy, because I really think it’s the best job in the world,” she reflects. “I can only hope that more little girls will come see us and say, ‘I want to do that.’”

Princess Anna meets an old childhood friend in “Frozen on Ice.” / PROVIDED

Tips for seeing ‘Frozen on Ice’ Disney. Christmas comes early as Princesses Elsa and Anna of Arendelle find true love on the ice at the Barclays Center. You might be the worst parent in NYC if you aren’t taking your child to “Disney on Ice Presents Frozen” this weekend at Barclays Center. (At least, you’re going to feel like it if your kid ever finds out.) With tickets starting at just $25, it’s easy to treat your family to the magic of watching their favorite animated characters come to life on ice skates. The show, hosted by Minnie and Mickey Mouse, streamlines the 109-min-

ute movie by cutting a few unnecessary scenes (like the king and queen dying, thankfully) and whittling down a few songs (“Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”). Although the show runs over two hours, including intermission, it moves quickly and sticks to the most action-packed parts of the fairy tale. Highlights include the wobbly-kneed moose Sven (played by two skaters), Kristoff’s strongman stunts and, of course, the delightfully obtuse Olaf. Fun group numbers include the troll family and the big floral finale as Arendelle defrosts. Strangely, “Let It Go” is not exactly the knockout number you’d expect; the song speaks for itself as Elsa skates around an empty rink. It has stiff competition from unexpected spec-

tacles, like the giant evil snowman (a fog-breathing inflatable) and the sledchase scene with wolves sporting eerily glowing yellow eyes. If the show itself doesn’t exactly melt your cold, cynical heart, then the costumed children in the audience who are dancing and singing along — while nearly fainting at the sight of the princesses and booing the bad guys — definitely will.

Pro tips

1

Arrive early. The security and ticket lines are outrageous, and the first number is your chance to see Minnie, Mickey and a handful of other iconic Disney characters — from “Finding Nemo” to “Snow White” — take the ice.

2

Keep some loose cash on hand for the snacks and toys — you’re not going

to make it out alive without getting the kiddies at least an Olaf snow cone.

3

Bring your best camera, or play with the settings on your smartphone, because lower-quality pointand-shoots might have trouble focusing with the skating action and the lights reflecting on the ice.

4

Plan naps before and after. A cranky attitude could turn this magical outing into a nightmare, while even the most energetic little ones are sure to pass out hard after bouncing in their chairs for 135 minutes. T. MICHELLE MURPHY @TMichelleMurphy

Q&A JON STEWART GOES TO THE MOVIES

On Iran

The comic says “The Daily Show” is as serious to him as his new political drama, “Rosewater.” Last summer Jon Stewart disappeared for three months so he could head to Jordan and direct a movie. The result, “Rosewater,” is not a comedy, although there are some jokes. It’s about what happened to Maziar Bahari (played by Gael Garcia Bernal), an Iranian journalist detained and tortured by Tehran officials for 118 days — in part because of his appearance in a bit on “The Daily Show.” But Stewart insists the jobs of making TV and making movies aren’t that different. How did you prepare to direct a film? Did you bug filmmakers? There were a couple people I went to, just to ask, “Is this viable? I’ve written a script. Is it a script? Do you look at it and say, ‘You know what, it turns out it’s a recipe. This is actually mock-apple pie, it’s not a movie.’” You’ve said you don’t think “The Daily Show” has changed the world

in a way you may like. Well, it’s not intended to. I don’t see evidence of it. And that’s not its purpose. Do you feel a politically charged movie has a better chance of effecting change? I view it very similarly to the show, which is that its purpose is to draw attention to something so that a conversation can occur. You always have that feeling that you’re pointing at things, going, “Why don’t you guys look at that! There’s something over there!” I never viewed this as a separate entity from what I normally do at the show. Obviously, it’s a different format and more long-form. But it still struck me as being of the same language, in some respects. It wasn’t like going out and doing a Laurie Anderson

production of music and light that expressed my feelings about Iran.

This is a more serious production than “The Daily Show.” I don’t believe so. On “The Daily Show,” we use the tools of satire to address war, death, famine, all kinds of things. With this we’re using the tools of cinema to address very similar themes and subtexts. Can you talk about the humor in this film? It’s far from a comedy, but there are jokes. I think humor was so central to Maziar’s survival and central to his memoir. I wanted to make sure we got humor

in there, but in a way that we didn’t impose it on it — not in any kind of contrivance but in a way that allowed it to grow organically from those situations. If we had heightened it and created farcical elements around it, it would have diminished just how the reality of the absurdity was so stark. There’s that scene where Maziar is allowed to call his wife for the first time, and in the middle of being berated [by his interrogator, played by Kim Bodnia] he has to dial “9” to get out. It’s an in-yourface reminder that this is an office — this guy works in an office. MATT PRIGGE @mattprigge

This film takes time to show everyday life in Iran. So many Western portrayals of it tend to dwell only on its bad parts. The film “Not Without My Daughter,” for example, seems to exist primarily to tell people Iran is evil. And it’s somewhat more complex than that! The dialogue between our two countries is this: We refer to them as part of the Axis of Evil, and they refer to us as the Great Satan. I think the bar was set relatively low for this film’s ability to present a slightly more nuanced version than that. But that’s what we were trying to do with the pieces on Iran on “The Daily Show.” We were trying to establish that it’s not a monolith, and it’s certainly not evil. And their ignorance of our culture is only matched by our ignorance of theirs. There is a good portion of individuals there and a good portion of individuals here that would have no problems with each other. You do slip in references to America’s long, checkered history with Iran. It was important to get the scene in about the coup in 1953 that was led by the CIA. We may view Iran as paranoid and slightly delusional, and there are elements of that within the regime, but it is not without precedent.

Reunion. ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ has about one million jokes, some of them really good

The lowdown: There are a ton of jokes in “Dumb and Dumber To.” A lot of them fall flat — but look at how many there are! Often it’s just Carrey, Daniels and the directors, the brothers Farrelly, whipping out everything they’ve got, not really caring what sticks. The gag’s the thing; when our stars aren’t holding forth on dumb juvenile sex jokes or playing farting games, they’re usually debating the finer points of joke-making — how drawing out gags makes them funnier. Both leads are game and more spry than one would imagine, though surely Daniels is far more

Review

‘Rosewater’ ••••• Jon Stewart makes his directorial debut with a docudrama about Maziar Bahari (played by Gael Garcia Bernal), an IranianCanadian journalist who spent 118 days detained in a Tehran prison. The lowdown It’s genuinely shocking when Jon Stewart’s first film finally, late in, turns into the funny, satirical film you’d expect from him. That’s not a knock: This shouldn’t be a comedy. Most of it is a straight-ahead drama between Garcia Bernal’s

Bahari and his torturer, an imposing brute he dubs “Rosewater” (Kim Bodnia). Stewart makes loads of rookie mistakes, and his film is never as rigorous as it should be. But we’re still stuck in Bahari’s head. With a few exceptions toward the end, there are no cutaways outside the jail; we’re trapped with someone who’s being made to feel alone and forgotten. Garcia Bernal is not only very human; he also has an underrated gift for comic timing. Clumsy though it sometimes is, “Rosewater” adds up to much more than good intentions. MATT PRIGGE

Tall true tale. It’s never quite clear whether ‘Foxcatcher’ is funny or serious (or both) Steve Carell goes slightly dramatic as John du Pont, the mentally unwell scion of one of the nation’s wealthiest families, who in 1996 whimsically gunneddown Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz (played by Mark Ruffalo), whose brother Mark (Channing Tatum) he had befriended. The lowdown: It’s not clear how he does it, but director Bennett Miller, in “Capote,” “Moneyball” and now “Foxcatcher,” has a knack for sucking all the air out of a room. His movies move glacially, sleepily, but not in the manner of Andrei Tarkovsky or Bela Tarr. The actors take their time, and rarely step on each other’s lines; even when the characters are dynamic, they seem doped up and leave giant, awkward pauses in between exchanges. You can hear all the silences, even when, as in “Moneyball,” they’re rattling off Aaron Sorkin banter.

Steve Carell wears prosthetics and a perpetually gaping mouth as richie murderer John du Pont in “Foxcatcher.” / SONY PICTURES CLASSICS Review ‘Foxcatcher’ Director: Bennett Miller Stars: Channing Tatum, Steve Carell Rating: R

•••••

This unusual quality lends itself well to “Foxcatcher,” which benefits from having a hard-to-pindown tone. Oftentimes, “Foxcatcher” feels like a comedy shot like a drama; it plays like a mega-ponderous, aggressively prestigious chunk of awards bait — like, say, Miller’s “Capote” — spliced with an awkward yukfest. Despite the accolades coming

his way, Carell is essentially doing a sketch character — the kind of anti-comedy that milks its laughs out of drawing things out, testing viewers’ patience for an easy answer. “Foxcatcher” isn’t subtle about its portrait of American success as madness and rot. But for most of its run, when it’s unclear just what the hell “Foxcatcher” is, it’s thrilling. MATT PRIGGE

Diplo disses Taylor Swift, Lorde gets the last laugh

Oh, Diplo. You should have known not to go after Taylor Swift. The DJ/producer tweeted that “Someone should make a Kickstarter to get Taylor Swift a booty, so that’s kind of what one of his fans did. Perhaps Kickstarter was noble enough to refuse to green-light the project, so a Diplo fan set up a Fundly campaign to raise money under the title of “Get Taylor Swift a Booty. “Taylor Swift Still Needs Your Help, the campaign page reads. “Any true supporter of TSWIFT would definitely not pass up this

opportunity to improve her posterior! THIS is not a joke! (Obviously it’s a joke.) The fact that Diplo happens to be dating Swift enemy Katy Perry takes this from a prank to some songwriting-worthy drama. While Swift may not have fired back, that didn’t stop Lorde, who tweeted at Diplo, “Should we do something about your tiny penis while we’re at it? BURRRN! EMILY LAWRENCE

Bono drops more unwanted releases

Bono and four friends were flying U2’s Learjet 60 from Dublin to Berlin earlier this week then the rear door of the luggage compartment fell off and fell 15,000 feet to the ground, along with two pieces of luggage. While the pilots told investigators they felt a turbulence-like rumble, the crew and passengers didn’t realize what had happened until they landed. “The aircraft and its rear door are painted black, so the search in the wooded area will be difficult, a spokesman for the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation says. All I’m saying is that somewhere in Germany there’s a hiker suddenly looking to shift 150 pairs of sunglasses on eBay.

No. Right now, with Net neutrality, you pay a telecommunications service for an X speed/second circuit to the Internet and the telcos all but refuse to tell you that you do not get the speed you pay for in actuality. However, you do get to go online if you have such a circuit, and Net neutrality means that you get the same access as anyone else with your speed package. And those with slower speeds have slower access and higher speeds have faster access, which is known as capitalism to those who are not trying to defraud all of Earth. If Net neutrality is

abolished, Amazon or any small mom and pop Internet startup will pay for the same circuit they had before, but then they will also need to pay a Mafiathug style “protection” fee to keep the telco provider from all but blocking their website, just as the mafia forced stores to pay to keep its thugs from burning the building down. So the anti-neutrality crowd is not trying to promote capitalism or America, but criminal activity and corruption. Keep in mind the telcos already have networks in place and refuse to upgrade them because you have no choices. So they will not use this extra profit to upgrade. D. BROWN, VIA EMAIL

Storylines to watch as Giants face 49ers

NFL. The Giants look to stop their fourgame losing streak back at home. The Giants’ NFC playoff hopes could be on lifesupport if they aren’t able to get a home win against the 49ers Sunday at 1 p.m. Eli Manning will be looking to continue what is turning out to be one of his better seasons. The quarterback has thrown 17 touchdowns to just six interceptions thus far this year. New York also gets Rashad Jennings back to the lineup, an addition of depth that can only help the offense. Michael Crabtree on a key 51-yard toss on fourth down late in the game. The Giants have 16 takeaways this season, including 13 interceptions, the second-most in the NFL. But they also have struggled with ball-possession, losing 10 fumbles in nine games. The turnover battle will be key in this one. If they Giants can win

But Smith is slated to return after a nine-week suspension, and could give the Giants offensive line headaches Sunday. “A big lift. He’s a freak of nature on the field,” Kaepernick said. “He’s a huge component to our defense, so [we’re] very happy to have him back.”

Defense can bend, but can’t break The Giants defense has by no means been a shut-down operation. In fact, the unit has allowed 405 yards per game played. Facing the 49ers, there are no lack of weapons that could damage the New York D, with Anquan Boldin looking revitalized alongside the bigman Crabtree as key wideout options for San Fran. The Giants also must contend with Frank Gore and the always-scrambling Kaepernick in the run game.

Jennings back after absence The Giants are in a rush to snap their four-game losing streak, and luckily for them, they’ll likely get their top rusher back this week in Rashad Jennings. Jennings is needed to help a sagging Giants’ rushing attack, as he’s missed the last four games due to an MCL sprain, forcing rookie Andre Williams into the spotlight. And while the neophyte didn’t embarrass himself on the field, it was obvious Big Blue was missing something in the running game. “I’m encouraged, definitely, about how far I’ve come,” Jennings said. “Every day it’s getting better. I’m just anxious about getting back on the field. No guarantees [about production or percentage of playing]. I’m just taking it all day-by-day.” He added: “This is my livelihood and it’s what I love to do. So, when you’re unable to perform on the field, you feel like something is stripped from you. … But with this time off, I think it was good to have some time where I was able to recalibrate some things.” TONY WILLIAMS

Week 11 in NFL should expose the pretenders NFL. The Eagles, Lions and Patriots are all playing in huge road games this Sunday.

Around the NFL A glance at Week 11:

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, there is one eight-win team in the NFL. There are five seven-win teams in the league. There are seven six-win teams in the league and five five-win teams in the league. In other words, we have no clue as of right now as to which teams are legit Super Bowl contenders, with a large pack of “good” teams. This weekend’s slate of games should offer up a great deal of insight into which teams are for real and which teams were just first half frauds.

Bengals at Saints (-7.5) Vegas is fully aware that the 5-3-1 Bengals are frauds. So much so that a team under .500 is favored against them by over a touchdown.

Texans at Browns (-3) Ryan Mallett makes his first career start in Cleveland, which is suddenly a tough place to play. The Browns defense won’t make it easy for the former Arkansas star as it is allowing just 19.1 points per game. Arian Foster figures to play for Houston despite being banged up. Seahawks at Chiefs (-1) The Chiefs haven’t lost in over a month and are slightly favored over the
