Beyond viral: Saying more than words City. Mayor’s deaf interpreter wants to bring attention to growing field Last Sunday, as the city braced for an estimated three feet of snow, Jon Lamberton stood next to Mayor Bill de Blasio and did his job — signing the news of the potentially deadly storm to deaf New Yorkers. But Lamberton, 38, who is deaf, stole the show with his very expressive style of American Sign Language (ASL) that includes broad gestures with his body and face. Two days after the press conference, Jon Stewart dubbed Lamberton the “best silent mayoral hype man,” on a Daily Show segment that poked fun at the overpreparation for an underwhelming storm. “I don’t give a damn what Jon Stewart thinks,” Lamberton in an online chat interview with Metro. “My interpretation is for the deaf community, not for people’s entertainment.” Lamberton is part of a small but growing community of certified interpreters who are themselves deaf. When he interprets press conferences for the mayor as a freelancer, he has a hearing ASL interpreter in the audience — sometimes his wife, Andria Alefhi — who signs what the mayor says, which Lamberton

“I suspect Jon Stewart doesn’t realize I’m deaf.” Jon Lamberton then interprets for a deaf audience. Lamberton said his “fluent” style of ASL appeared even more expressive when he was stand-

ing next to a “nonvisual” mayor speaking stoically at a podium. And while Lamberton said he was still honored that Stewart was “com-

plimenting me in his own way,” he felt obligated to be an “unintentional advocate” since his interpreting went viral. “Interpreters usually are ‘behind the scenes’ and it’s my preference not to be in the limelight,” Lamberton said. Lamberton, who was born to deaf parents, called the education of many deaf people a “massive failure,” so he works to make issues such as blizzards and Ebola more understandable. Lamberton said he’s already seen change come from his story. He’s learned new training programs are being discussed in Japan and England for Certified Deaf Interpreters. And the

Snow, giving way to rain and ice will make this morning’s commute cold and mushy, with bitterly cold temperatures expected Tuesday. Winter Storm Linus was expected to bring five to eight inches of snow and heavy accumulations to New York City by this morning, before

turning to a mix of snow, sleet, rain and freezing rain. A week after the historic snowstorm that never was, Mayor Bill de Blasio urged New Yorkers to be cautious during the inclement weather. “If you don’t need to be on the roads, don’t be on the roads,” de Blasio

said Sunday afternoon, urging commuters to take mass transit. He said city parks will be closed Monday morning. “We’re looking at a messy morning commute, if anyone wants to bother commuting. It’s not a good idea,” said John Cristantello, a meteorologist with

the National Weather Service. With temperatures expected to top out in the upper 20s, Cristantello said up to a 1.4 inches of ice could form after the storm transitions from snow to ice and rain. Alternate side parking is suspended on Monday. WENDY JOAN BIDDLECOMBE

Reports: Silver tried to hold onto power Back room. Disgraced soonto-be former State Assembly speaker failed to get support for plan. At one minute to midnight Monday, Assemblyman Sheldon Silver’s long grip on Albany politics — and billions of taxpayer dollars — officially ends. Just like that? It turns out, not exactly. Silver tried one last back-room deal — to secretly still call the shots in the New York State Assembly as he fights the federal corruption charges against him. “They devised a proposal under which Silver would make the unheardof offer of ceding some duties to a group of five assemblymen,” News-

Sheldon Silver / GETTY IMAGES Quoted

“The Assembly must move promptly to put leadership in place that can get a budget completed before April 1 to prevent further loss of confidence in our state government.” Kathy Wylde Partnership for New York City

day’s Sunday editions reported. “Silver’s staunchest supporters wanted to make his departure temporary, in the event he beat the charges.” Problem is, unlike so many other past deals, this one was hardly done and Silver loyalists never got a chance to sell it last Monday after it leaked out the night before — on Twitter. “Soon the proposal would be derisively referred to in the media as the five-headed monster and a shadow government,” Newsday reported. Silver filed his resignation letter Friday. At 11:59 p.m. Monday, it’s over. Bronx Assemblyman Carl Heastie is reportedly the front runner to take Silver’s power post. JOHN A. OSWALD @MetroNewYork

Health. New York state records third case of measles this year. A Bard college student suffering from measles passed through Penn Station on an Amtrak train Jan. 25, the N.Y. State Dept. of Health said, prompting a warning that fellow passengers should contact a doctor if they’re uncertain they are immune to the disease. The student traveled on Amtrak’s 283 train that departed Penn Station at 1:20 p.m., heading for Albany and Niagara Falls. Two New York City residents contracted measles from international travel this year, but are now recovering city officials told Metro. An outbreak of measles traced to Disneyland, in Anaheim, California, sickened some 90 people, resulting in some schools banning non-vaccinated students and renewing the anti-vaccination debate.

At his National Action Network in Harlem, Sharpton minced no words Sunday, lashing out at younger protest leaders who say he’s hurting their cause. “They are pimping you,” the 60-year-old bellowed, according to Capital New York. “I’ve been meeting with them and talking with them,” Sharpton

continued. “They were told, ‘Your problem is Al Sharpton and the other guys.’” “How you going to be more mad at folk that are marching for the same cause, than you are against the folks y’all are marching against? Don’t you see a trick in there?” Sharpton asked. Young protester Josmar Trujillo, founder of New Yorkers Against Bratton, said Sharpton is now a hindrance to police reforms in New York City. Houston and singer Bobby Brown, was found unresponsive in a bathtub at her Georgia home Saturday morning. She was revived after being rushed to a hospital, police said. The incident comes three years after Houston, a superstar who battled substance abuse issues, drowned in a bathtub in Beverly Hills in 2012. Authorities have said cocaine

use and heart disease contributed to her death. Brown was found at about 10:20 a.m. Saturday, in the bathtub at her suburban Atlanta home by her husband and a friend, said a public information officer for the Roswell Police Department. TMZ reported late Sunday that Brown has “significantly diminished” brain function. METRO

TIPPLERS ON THE ROOF

High above the streets of Manhattan, hidden among ordinary rooftops, N.D. Austin and Ida Benedetto lead a merry band of urban explorers, musicians, and their guests to secret locations crafted into unique environments Ever wonder what the inside of a water tower looks like? How about when it’s been turned into an illicit speakeasy, “The Night Heron,” named for the wading bird common in New York waters, or “a disused elevator cable room: The Jackpin.” A jackpin, by the way, is the piece of metal that prevents a hydraulic jack from falling down should the pressure (or an elevator cable) fail. Austin and his team plan their excursions and events carefully, with an eye towards safety as well as discrete and transgressive fun. If the aesthetic draws inspiration from steampunk, the practicalities tend toward engineering and survival skills. Ropes, ladders, and walkie-talkies are as essential as the musical instruments and cocktail shakers. Guests are not told beforehand what to expect, simply asked to rendezvous at a nondescript location and then follow instructions from guides, who look out for uninvited eyes. The reward is the surprise, to the accompaniment of specialty cocktails and instant complicity among strangers. Afterwards, walking away, it’s hard to believe that the city can conceal such wonder in plain sight.

How an MBA can get you to the next level Getting down to business. The degree will give you an edge as companies start to hire again. While technology and hiring trends are constantly evolving, one thing remains true: A strong foundation will give students the skills they need throughout their careers. “In our minds, the upswings in the economy have stimulated new businesses,” says Sunil Sani, an entrepreneur and venture capitalist who is the cofounder of Careerglider. com, a site geared toward

“MBA programs are the main feeders for the investment bank world,” says Sani. “However, one great thing about the degree is that it can be used in fields like health care, consulting and even social media.” Sani says he is seeing more companies looking for candidates with MBA backgrounds in fields like marketing.

The MBA application process may intimidate some candidates, in particular the international ones. The following tips will help you becoming a stand-out applicant. YOU DON’T WANT TO BE WRITING YOUR ESSAYS LAST MINUTE. / ISTOCK

1

Get organized. As an MBA applicant, you need to be aware of deadlines, and required materials. Do not rush your application, as lack of depth or unedited essays will halt your application. Remember to allow time for revisions.

2

Prepare yourself for the GMAT. Particularly if you have been out of school for a period of time and it’s been a while since you’ve taken a standardized test.

3

Request documents in advance. Some MBA applications may require not only an official copy of your transcript, but in cases of non-U.S. diplomas, U.S. admissions directors may require a certified, or sealed translation of documents such as transcripts.

4

Choose your recommendations carefully. Letters from individuals with big titles that do not know you often pale in comparison to a recommendation from someone who truly knows you, your interests and your skills.

5

Think about your essay topic. Your admissions essay should draw on your qualifications, as well as what drives you personally. There is no set formula, but you need to make the reader believe that not only are you qualified for an MBA in general, but also that you’d be a good fit for the program you’re applying to in general. There probably hasn’t been a more controversial change in education policy than the implementation of Common Core: A new set of standards that proponents say will make education across the country more consistent. “What obscures the debates about Common Core is that many people think that it is a set curriculum, says Scott Farber, the founder of A-List Education, a test prep and tutoring company that works with students throughout the East Coast. “But it’s not. It doesn’t say things like, ‘You need to read these 10 books.’ Instead it sets aspirations and benchmarks for schools. Farber says the parents he works with often pepper him with questions about the standards. “The math in particular has been difficult for people to adapt to, he says. “It’s because math doesn’t look like the math that parents remember. Farber offers these tips for families trying to navigate the system.

Don’t be afraid to ask school administrators about the changes. / ISTOCK At home

Outside the classroom Farber also recommends parents encourage their children to read a variety of books and stories, particularly nonďŹ ction, at home. “In college, most students — unless they are English majors — are going to be reading mostly nonďŹ ction,â€? he says.

Justin Timberlake is just the latest person in an impressive line of people to announce that his wife, Jessica Biel, is pregnant. But I guess since it’s actually his kid and all, his announcement should count more. The pop star/actor/professional celebrity celebrated his birthday over the weekend by posting a photo to his Instagram account of him kissing Biel’s very pregnant

Katy Perry and Missy light up halftime If you’re like us, what you really wanted to see during last night’s Super Bowl was Katy Perry’s halftime performance — and it didn’t disappoint. From her entrance on a golden mechanical lion while singing her megahit “Roar” to her duet with Lenny Kravitz on “I Kissed A Girl,” Perry

managed to give her fans all of her hits in one shot. Despite the fireworks, it was a cameo by Missy Elliott that stole the show. The rapper came out to perform her hit “Get Ur Freak On” and promptly dazzled social media, leaving many hoping she’ll release new music soon.

He captioned the photo with some heartfelt thanks and an abundance of hashtags, including #BoyOrGirl and #YouNeverKnow. And, listen, I don’t want to tell Timberlake how to do his job as a soon-to-be dad, but he does know that they will, in fact, know at some point, right?

Dame Helen Mirren, commuter

Dame Helen Mirren — star of “The Queen,” “Red” and countless demeaning “Can you believe how good she looks at that age” articles — was spotted by an eagleeyed Instagram user taking the R train in Manhattan recently, and naturally the British actress was showing remarkable decorum and etiquette. She kept her bag in her lap! And she even took a middle seat even though she didn’t have to. All class, that one.

David Beckham has spent most of his life being an incredibly famous athlete and underwear model, but he’s quickly transitioning into his next career — begrudgingly silent father to teens — and he’s not taking it well. His oldest kid, Brooklyn, is 15, and the next, Romeo, is on the cusp of teenhood. Then there are two more after that, all ready and willing to subvert any sense of identity dad might have once had. So, how are things going over at the Beckham estate? “To be honest, I’ve become a taxi driver overnight with the kids,” he tells Jimmy Kimmel. “I’m literally an Uber driver now.” Literally? Wow. I wonder if he does airport runs.

Conan’s Clueless Gamer heads to the Super Bowl

ABC VIA GETTY IMAGES

Just in time for the Super Bowl, Conan O’Brien put out his biggest “Clueless Gamer” segment yet, traveling to Phoenix to play “Mortal Kombat X” with the Seahawks’ Marshawn Lynch and the Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski, and oh man is it epic. It’s

a tough call as to what’s the best part of it: Lynch nearly walking out after seeing the first supergory finishing move in the game, Gronkowski trying to get some Lipitor endorsement money or the two NFL stars singing the praises of the much less violent “Mario Kart.” But that “Mortal Kombat” version of the Super Bowl trophy is pretty sweet.

Prince Farming tries to find the (right) one Interview. Chris Soules says it’s not that easy picking one true love out of 30 women. Chris Soules’ journey to true love on the “Bachelor” has some twists and turns ahead for viewers, though he tells us the show finished shooting around Thanksgiving. That journey so far has involved more tractors and goat milking for the ladies than most people experience on the way to marriage, but that’s just what happens when you date Prince Farming.

Has it been weird to see all of this stuff again? It’s been neat to see everything play out again. It brings back a lot of memories and it seems like almost years ago that we went through that whole entire process, but it’s been really fun to watch so far. What was your plan going into shooting? Going into this, my number one goal was to find a wife. I’ve been looking for a wife for a long time — looking for a soulmate more than anything. My hope going into this was that this would give me the opportunity to meet some girls I’d never had

the opportunity to meet before. Given the fact that I’m from a small town, this would maybe be a different avenue that would allow me to meet someone. What kind of qualities did you look for?

Looks like another romantic date is ahead on “The Bachelor.” See how it turns out tonight at 8 p.m. on ABC. / LEWIS JACOBS, ABC

The main thing that I was looking for is someone I could spend the rest of my life with and someone who I can laugh with who is my best friend. What’s the hardest part of being on the show? Meeting 30 incredible women and then sending 29 of them home.

Having real feelings for a handful of those women, that made it really hard. Did it get harder as the show went on to make your choices? Much harder. I thought it would be easy to begin with because I wouldn’t have those feelings develop. But it wasn’t, because there were so many great women, and I knew that I was making judgments on people I really hadn’t gotten to know. LISA WEIDENFELD @LisaWeidenfeld

Who to pick? How did you make your final decision? It really came down to my gut. I just had to follow that. ... In real life, I have a support system, which is my family, with my mom and my dad and my sisters, and I didn’t have that while on the show, so you just have to follow your gut and use your own intuition and make the best call you can make.

Al Pacino on forgetting lines Interview. The screen and stage legend talks ‘The Humbling’ and its portrayal of an aging actor. “I must be getting old, because it’s fun,” Al Pacino says about doing press. The reasons are simple. “Nobody talks to me. I’ve got young kids, and they never talk to me at all. I never have a chance to talk to adults.” And Pacino can talk. He’s promoting “The Humbling,” based on the Philip Roth novel, in which he plays an aging stage legend who winds up in a relationship with a much younger lesbian (Greta Gerwig). But the conversation roams freely.

Why the film’s mismatched leads match: “She’s offbeat, and the character I play is offbeat. They somehow belong together. You just don’t think about it,” he says. Part of that is because her character doesn’t care. “Early on he says, ‘I’m too old for you.’ And she says he’s not. They’re just of the same world. Their eccentricities allow that to not be an issue.”

The difficulties of doing theater as you get up in years: “Doing a stage play eight times a week — that’s an endurance test, especially in the roles [his character] is playing,” he says. “You don’t walk through ‘King Lear.’ It can’t be done!” And it’s not just him. “I know a couple people who can’t

A theater story: A few years ago Pacino was doing a revival of “Glengarry Glen Ross” on Broadway. During rehearsals, in front of a live audience, his mind wandered. “All of a sudden this actor

turns to me in the play and screams, ‘Shut the f— up!’ And I just looked out at the audience. And they roared. I didn’t know why he was yelling at me. And I realized I hadn’t given him his cue. I had to give him the cue so he could say, ‘Shut the f— up,’” he says, laughing “I almost felt like we should have kept that in there. We got a great laugh!”

Pacino has been involved with an HBO film about the Jerry Sandusky scandal, with him as Joe Paterno. But it’s stalled because, he says, the script needs more work: “The movie has to focus on what it’s going to say, what it’s about.” It might happen, but not soon. In the meantime he’s a big fan of “Happy Valley,” Amir Bar-Lev’s recent documentary on the subject. “That’s a tough act to follow,” he says. “It just unfolds for you. It doesn’t have many answers. It leaves doors open and you just don’t know about certain things. You certainly don’t know what Paterno’s part was. What did he say? What did he avoid? That’s some momentous stuff. That’s the stuff tragedies are made of. That’s ‘King Lear’ stuff.” MATT PRIGGE @mattprigge

Interview. The Backstreet Boys take a hard look at their past in a new documentary Back in the day

Did any of the outďŹ ts from back in the ’90s make you cringe seeing them now? Howie: Absolutely. Of course. Kevin: There were quite a few, quite a few. Lots of interesting fashion.

You can watch our video chat with the Boys on metro.us. / METRO

The Backstreet Boys are taking a moment to look back. In fact, they’ve created an entire documentary to do so. Twenty-two years after starting, the Boys — Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson — let a camera crew follow them as they revisit their past and record their 2013 album, “In a World Like This. The result is “Show ‘Em What You’re Made Of, available now on VOD.

Are there any parts of this that are particularly hard to watch? Nick: I didn’t like, necessarily, watching myself cry and go through that whole experience with my teacher, because I’d kind of put that in the back of my mind. AJ: I think there were high moments and then there were low moments, even making the film. Some moments were much more emotional than

others. Brian: My voice therapy stuff was hard for me to watch, just because it was such a trying time in my life that I happened to be right in the middle of. ‌ It was something that I really tried to hide. I didn’t want it to be in the documentary, but it just kind of evolved and came out. But it’s good that I’m better now and getting stronger each and every day.

Were there any that particularly stick out? Brian: We just saw an interview of us backstage in the green room for the Grammy Awards. ... It was 1999, and the question was, “So what do you Backstreet Boys think about the Internet? Do you think it’s going to be something pretty cool?â€? And [AJ] is in a white top hat, white suit. ...He looked like‌ Willy Wonka. AJ: I looked like Dr. Seuss.

It seems that those that live in New York City were “underwhelmed” by the storm and can’t stop complaining. Those of us on Long Island had a different experience. When you live in Manhattan — specifically below 96th St. — everything gets cleared first and your snow is removed and not piled into a small mountain. You didn’t have to deal with clearing 16 inches of snow and dreading the ice wall that the plow leaves in your driveway. Or not being able to open your kitchen door because of the snowdrifts. response to the hourly updates provided by the news media was very adequate. The fault I find is with the unnecessarily frequent interruptions by the meteorologists providing unclear and “possibly/probably” misinformation. The mayor (like the rest of us) was merely preparing for the platitudinous “blizzard of 2015.” Weather is weather — no more, no less, and no matter how many hourly updates, no one can change the course of Mother Nature. Super Bowl XLIX

LaFell out in front Brandon LaFell was the first player to find the end zone in Super Bowl XLIX as he caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady off a slant with 9:47 remaining in the second quarter. One of the main prop bets heading into Sunday’s game was, “Which player will score first?” and the odds on LaFell were solid at 12/1. LaFell was the sixth most likely player in the game to score first. Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch had the highest odds, at 11/2. Lynch was the second player to score in the game, rumbling in with 2:16 left in the second quarter.

PATS BACK ON TOP

Super Bowl XLIX. The Patriots stormed back to stun Seattle in the fourth quarter.

Years from now, when Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are retired, the “yeah, but” talk won’t matter much. Yes, “Spy-gate” and “Deflate-gate” will be part of the dynamic duo’s legacy, but hardware trumps all conversation. Belichick and Brady now have more hardware than any other living coach – quarterback combination, and the New England Patriots have the bragging rights of being – by far – the most successful professional football franchise in the world this century as they captured their fourth Lombardi Trophy by edging the Seahawks, 28-24. It looked as though the Patriots were again going to be haunted in the Super Bowl by a miracle catch as Jermaine Kearse caught a 33-yard bouncing ball on his back to set up a first down for the Seahawks at the Patriots’ 5-yard line. A Marshawn Lynch four-yard run brought the ball to the Patriots’ 1 with the clock dwindling and New England looked for sure as though it was about to lose its third consecutive Super Bowl But the Seahawks called a stunning pass play instead of using Lynch again,

Tom Brady set a Super Bowl record by completing 20 passes in the first half against the Seahawks. Brady finished the game having thrown for 328 yards, four touchdowns and two picks. Russell Wilson, meanwhile, completed just 12-of-21 passes.

The NFL’s investigation into “deflate-gate” is not yet finished but new information was revealed prior to kickoff of Super Bowl XLIX. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, 11 of the 12 footballs used in the first half of the AFC title game were judged by the officials to be under the minimum of 12.5 PSI, but only one football was found to be two pounds under. This contradicts ESPN’s Chris Mortensen’s report from two weeks ago that said 11 of 12 Patriots footballs were found to be a full two pounds under the limit. METRO

and undrafted cornerback Malcolm Butler came up with the play of his life, picking off Russell Wilson and giving the Patriots an improbable Super Bowl win. The Patriots were down 24-14 heading into the final quarter and Brady had been struggling. But when Brady hit Julian Edelman for a 21-yard completion NFL

on a third-and-14 with just over 10 minutes remaining, the Pats got to work. Brady found Danny Amendola in the back of the end zone to cut the Seattle lead to 24-21. The Patriots then forced a three-and-out before Brady orchestrated another fabulous drive as he continuously completed passes to Shane Vereen, Rob

Gronkowski and Edelman. Edelman would score the Pats’ go-ahead touchdown, catching the ball in the corner of the end zone. Brady finished the game having gone 37for-50 for 328 yards, four touchdowns and two picks. MATT BURKE @BurkeMetroBos

Manning to decide soon

NFL. Jets, Bills to go hard after Pats’ Revis

Broncos QB Peyton Manning could decide “as early as this week” on whether or not he will return for an 18th season, according to ESPN. Manning met with new Denver head coach Gary Kubiak last Wednesday to discuss his future. According to the ESPN report, Manning will have a checkup on his surgically repaired neck “within 10 days of the start of the new league year, which begins March 10.” Manning struggled greatly in the Broncos’ 24-13 playoff loss to the Colts. METRO

It’s likely that Darrelle Revis will be playing six of 16 games in the AFC East next season. But there now appears to be just as good a chance that Revis will be lining up against the Patriots in 2015 as there is of him remaining in New England. The Jets are expected to pursue Revis in free agency, sources told ESPN Sunday. New Bills head coach Rex Ryan will also look at ways to bring his former corner to upstate New York. The Patriots are unlikely to exercise a $20 million option on Revis’ contract.

There is high interest in the services of Darrelle Revis.

Jets fan buys domain name ‘to protect’ GM The people behind FireJohnIdzik.com got their wish when John Idzik, the second-year general manager of the New York Jets, got fired at the end of the season. But the man who bought the domain name of FireMikeMaccagnan. com has purchased it to make sure that there aren’t similar protests this time around. Meet Jim Brady of Great Falls, Virginia, a journalist and an avid fan of the Jets. He bought the FireMikeMaccagnan.com domain on the night that the Jets announced the hiring of their new general manager, brought in from the Houston Texans where he was their director of

college scouting. His rationale is that he “didn’t buy it to use it, I bought it more to keep it from being used.” The FireJohnIdzik.com website spawned a movement that made national headlines, a story that was first broken by Metro last fall. Donations gathered on the website led to billboards purchased that protested Idzik’s two years with the team and what this group saw as severe deficiencies in his tenure, namely his inability to get a decent haul from two drafts as well as failures in free agency. They also inspired two planes flying over the facility with similar messages asking for Idzik to be fired, along with flights before a Jets home game as well as a “Penalty Towel” rally to raise support against

New Jets’ GM Mike Maccagnan hopes he can start the 2015 season with a clean slate.

Idzik. In fact, the website raised so much money that they donated the entirety

of their excess funds to charity. Brady doesn’t count

himself as an Idzik apologist, but he doesn’t want to see similar movements take hold. “I wasn’t so much a defender of Idzik as I felt like he got too much of the blame, and Rex [Ryan] not enough. I was fine with both being let go,” Brady told Metro. “I guess I just felt like all the stuff about the billboard and flying banners over practice was a bit much. I mean, there are plenty of other URLs someone could buy instead, so this doesn’t amount to much.” This was the only domain name that Brady has purchased, leaving FireMikeMaccagnan.org and FireMikeMaccagnan. nyc available as well as numerous other permutations, per GoDaddy.com. For those interested, BlazeMikeMaccagnan.com

is available on GoDaddy for just $2.99. That domain has endless possibilities. Though he lives in Virginia, Brady is a lifelong Jets fan and he still watches his team on television via the NFL Sunday Ticket with his father. He doesn’t have anything against the protesters, even if he wasn’t necessarily on board with the last movement. “Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If people want to start these movements and sites, why not?” Brady said. “And if I can grab the domain to keep it from being used, why not? All part of the domain game, I guess.” Speaking of which, FireToddBowles.com was purchased on Jan. 9 by 1and1. com. The site is a domain name and webhosting site. KRISTIAN DYER

Goodell must clean up act, fast Here is my advice for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell - arrogance and defiance does not work. Being snippy and combative when asked relevant questions on Friday at your State of the League press conference came across poor. For 48 minutes, I sat and watched and listened and I came away with the idea that you just do not get it. Just as your players engage the fans and build up that trust, so should you. I heard the word “integrity” over and over and over again on Friday. The NFL has lost that. It lost it with the Incognito, Rice and Deflate-gate investigations. I don’t want to hear the names Ted Wells or Robert Mueller. I want to hear more about Barbara Jones and her decision to vacate the Ray Rice suspension. Jones, with no connection to the NFL, did not paint the NFL in a positive light. You need to realize that even though you have

made your owners lots of money, over $10 Billion dollars in revenue in 2013, the perception you have

amongst the fans of your sport is that of one who only cares about the bottom line. It does not help when former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue told GQ that, “If they see you making decisions only in economic terms, they start to understand that and question what you’re all about. There’s a huge intangible value in peace. There’s a huge intangible value in having allies.” At this point, I could run the NFL. Why not? It is a locomotive rolling downhill, gaining more and more momentum. It is the most popular sport in America. Sponsors have not left. By 2025, the Goodell model will have the NFL generating $25 billion dollars in revenue. Put me in charge, I would certainly connect a lot better with my paying customers than Goodell does. Give me have his salary! All I ask for is $22 million a year. Goodell made $44 million last year.

Early games in London. Thursday and Monday Night football. Sunday afternoons. I would understand how bad domestic violence is and would not have to see a video to recognize that. It has been an extremely long year for the NFL Commissioner and he, like all of us, are hoping for better things in 2015. But the arrogance needs to go away. The defiance needs to go away. People question the integrity of the league because their concerns are valid. People question your job status because they are not sure if you are fit to handle every aspect that comes along with being the NFL Commissioner. Everyone is replaceable. There will be an NFL Commissioner after you, Roger. Don’t ever forget that! Don’t forget what makes this game so marketable and so great are the players that put those uniforms on each
