Savvy local turns snow into cold cash Cold cash. People are ordering ‘historic Boston snow’ from ShipSnowYo.com While you’re cursing the latest round of snowfall, Kyle Waring sees cold cash outside. His new business, Ship Snow, Yo, sells snow from his Manchester-by-the-Sea home, 30 miles north of Boston, and ships it anywhere in the U.S. A light dusting Tuesday night pushed Boston’s seasonal snow total up to 100.2 inches, making it second to the winter of 1995-1996, that saw 107.6 inches. The “historic Boston snow,” as Waring calls it, is selling like hotcakes at $20 for a 16.9-ounce water bottle. His new product — a shipment of 6 pounds of snow — runs $90 a pop. And people are actually buying it. “It started as a joke, and it sort of evolved,” said Waring, a product manager at GSN Games in Boston, who has a background in web development. Waring launched ShipSnowYo.com after Winter Storm Juno in January, when the Boston region got roughly two feet of snow-- an ominous a foreshadowing of the treacherous months to follow. The idea came to Waring as he and his wife were shoveling their property. “During the first big storm we were like, ‘This is ridiculous. We need to get rid of this. We should just ship it

somewhere,’” said Waring’s wife, Jessica, 27. Within no time, orders started coming in from California and Florida. As of Wednesday, the company had shipped more than 100 orders.

“Once [Kyle] gets an idea in his head he just runs with it. He came up with a website and a business plan and somehow made it happen,” said Jessica. “We are just having so much fun with it.”

MBTA. Beleaguered T has a new boss, at least for the time being MassDOT Highway Administrator Frank DePaola will take over for outgoing MBTA GM Beverly Scott on an interim basis beginning March 4. The MassDOT board voted for DePaola Wednesday. Scott said this month she’d leave in April, as extreme weather wreaked havoc on the T’s antiquated

system, causing cancellations and delays. “Once the issues are diagnosed, I look forward to helping implement a strategy to restore our system to full strength, and restoring our customers’ faith in our ability to provide safe, reliable, efficient transit service,” said DePaola, who formerly served as the T’s assistant

general manager for design and construction. Scott said she could not “think of a better, more qualified person to take the reins immediately and provide the necessary leadership to move our transit system in the right direction.” “I can leave this job I’ve loved, knowing that MBTA customers as well as em-

ployees are in very capable hands and I look forward to working with Frank during the transition process,” she said in a statement. MassDOT Secretary Stephanie Pollack announced that Thomas Tinlin, MassDOT’s chief of highway operations and maintenance, will serve as acting highway administrator. DANNY MCDONALD

Suffolk Downs races could resume East Boston. There may be races at the historic race track by May - or not.

Quoted

“This is a last ditch effort to get us a couple more years racing while Suffolk Downs decide what to do long term.” Jay Bernardini

Horse racing at Suffolk Downs this summer? It could happen, according to both a representative of the historic track and a vice president of the New England Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association. Jay Bernardini confirmed to the Metro that his organization had reached a letter of intent with Suffolk Downs and are currently negotiating with the track to lease the property, which was confirmed by a representative of Suffolk Downs, who added that if and when an agreement is reached, the track will not be commenting on the matter. The news comes months after what was widely considered to be a death knell for the 79-year-old track that straddles East Boston and Revere. Mo-

hegan Sun had been pushing to have a resort casino at the location, but last fall the state Gaming Commission chose to award a license to Wynn Resorts’ Everett proposal. The track had been bleeding red ink -- $47 million in losses between 2007 and 2014,

according to State House News Service. Without a casino, the track operators indicated it was not financially viable. Conversations turned to how the 161acre site could be developed for uses other than horse racing. Chief Operating Officer Chip Tuttle said at the time of

the decision that it would mark the end of horsetrack racing in New England, adding his team would be looking at ways to wind down the operation. He blasted the commission’s decision as a job-killer. But Lou Raffetto, the president of the New England

Horsemen’s Agricultural and Racing Corporation – the entity that would run the races at the track — said both sides had been working on an agreement that would see races return to Suffolk Downs for the next two years. He indicated the agreement would allow the track to be open without Suffolk Downs suffering losses. Raffetto said the state’s Legislature would have to pass a bill that would allow Suffolk to simulcast races for a minimum of one day and a maximum of 50 per year. The proposal would also allow track-generated purse money — money that’s paid to horse owners — to be used to fund administrative uses and operations. Right now, state regulations prevent that from happening,

he said. If Beacon Hill passes such a measure, it would be up to the Gaming Commission to determine how much money would be allotted for the purses and how much would be allotted for other uses. Raffetto said this idea was only “ a stop gap measure.” “The long term goal is to find another location in the state to put a boutique racetrack,” he said. If everything goes perfectly for his group, Raffetto said there could be races at Suffolk Downs around the time of the Kentucky Derby, which runs in early May. T’s false alert causes confusion MBTA. Passengers were misled by the transit agency’s T-Alert Service.

DAVE COULIER Full House, Tonight Show COMING UP

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before, but the MBTA confused the hell out of commuters Wednesday morning. False MBTA alerts warning of cancellations to various commuter rail lines were originally chalked up to hackers before the T attributed the snafus to technical issues. Subscribers of the MBTA’s T-Alert Service received email and text message notifications that certain lines had been delayed. While the error messages were not posted to the T web site or tweeted from the T’s account, riders who were already vexed by the transit agency’s inconsistent service during the last snowy month were

confused by messages advising them that lines out of South Station, including the Framingham/Worcester line and the Middleborough/Lakeville line were “delayed until further notice every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.” The T vehemently denied that the confusion was caused by hackers, something that was originally suggested by a spokesman for the Keolis Commuter Services. MBTA spokesman Joe Pesa-

turo said through a statement that “Tech staff will fix the bug that caused an error in the text of the message.” He added, “In the meantime, we are instructing the employees who enter service alerts to double check the messages on the confirmation screen before they send them.”

Cuba says track to restoring ties ‘depends on US’ Cuba would agree to restore diplomatic relations with the United States in time for the April Summit of the Americas if Washington quickly and convincingly removes the Caribbean country from a list of state sponsors of terrorism, a senior Cuban official said on Wednesday. Diplomatic ties were sev-

ered in 1961, and negotiators for the two longtime adversaries will meet in Washington on Friday, following up on the first round of talks held in Havana last month. If the two sides move fast enough, they could reopen embassies in each other’s capitals in time for the April 10-11 Summit of the Americas in Panama, where President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro could meet for the first time since they agreed to restore ties

and exchange prisoners on Dec. 17. It would be their first faceto-face-meeting since a handshake at Nelson Mandela’s funeral in December 2013, when unbeknownst to most of the world the two countries were six months into secret talks aimed at ending hostilities. A senior Cuban official on Wednesday said relations could be restored in time for the summit but put the onus on Washington to first remove Cuba from the terrorism list.

Netanyahu accuses West of forsaking non-nuclear Iran pledge

China drops leading technology brands from state purchases

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rebuffed criticism of his plans to address Congress, accusing world powers of forsaking a pledge to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. “I respect the White House and the President of the United States but on such a fateful matter, that can determine whether or not we survive, I must do everything to prevent such a great danger for Israel,” Netanyahu said. He said world powers had pledged to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, adding “from the agreement coming together it appears they have given up on this commitment.” REUTERS

China has dropped some of the world’s leading technology brands from its approved state purchase lists, while approving thousands more locally made products, in what some say is a response to revelations of widespread Western cybersurveillance. Others put the shift down to a protectionist impulse to shield China’s domestic technology industry from competition. US charges three in NYC with conspiring to support Islamic State According to the complaint. The men discussed how to carry out attacks in the US. Three men were charged on Wednesday with conspiring to support Islamic State, including two who planned to travel to Syria to fight on behalf of the radical group, U.S. authorities said. One of the men, Akhror Saidakhmetov, 19, of Kazakhstan, was arrested on Wednesday at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, where authorities said he was attempting to board a flight to Turkey on his way to Syria. flight to Istanbul, said Loretta Lynch, U.S. Attorney in Brooklyn. Abror Habibov, 30, of Uzbekistan, was accused of funding Saidakhmetov’s efforts. All three men live in Brooklyn. At a hearing in Brooklyn federal court for Juraboev and Saidakhmetov, Adam Perlmutter, a lawyer for Saidakhmetov, called his client “a very young man” and said they would fight

the case “vigorously.” Habibov was expected to appear in federal court in Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday as well. Juraboev drew the attention of federal agents when he posted messages on an Uzbeklanguage website stating his desire to join Islamic State and his willingness to kill President Barack Obama. A U.S.-led coalition has been fighting Islamic State, which controls swaths of Iraq and Syria. Agents interviewed Juraboev at his home in August 2014, when he acknowledged wanting to fight for Islamic State in Syria and confirmed he would be willing to harm Obama, according to the criminal complaint. He also told the agents about a friend, Saidakhmetov, who shared similar views, the complaint said. REUTERS

Lindsay Lohan’s liberal definition of community service

CULTURE

So remember when Lindsay Lohan’s lawyer rushed in proof that she had completed her probation-mandated community service hours while in London? Yeah, about that. As it turns out, Lohan got a little, let’s say, creative with what constitutes community service. According to TMZ, her community service included performing in the West End in “Speed-thePlow,” meeting fans afterward and letting kids follow her around. What a mensch. “On one day Lindsay got six hours credit,” prosecutor Terry White complains. “Two of the hours were for her matinee performance and another two were for her evening performance. The remaining two were for a meet-and-greet afterwards.” Looks like her selfless giving could land her a probation violation.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” is still busy making all of the money, but apparently no amount of success is enough to please star Jamie Dornan, who is reportedly mulling an early exit from the franchise before they can get to adapting the second and third book, according to Australia’s NW magazine. Dornan is said to be wrestling with an intense distaste for all things “Grey” and isn’t eager to shave off

all his facial and chest hair once again and make with the flogging Dakota Johnson, according to an anonymous source. “Jamie does not think his performance was bad. Instead he blames Dakota and says it wasn’t possible to have chemistry with her,” the source insists. “He says Dakota gave him nothing to work with.” So I guess his solution is to return the favor?

Baseless speculation about Ben Affleck’s secret Oscars message to Jennifer Lopez

Apparently something we all missed at the Oscars was a run-in between exes Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, both on hand to present awards. During a commercial break, Affleck apparently whispered something in Lopez’s ear, earning him a playful sock in the arm from his “Gigli” co-star. And as with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson in “Lost in Translation,” we’re burning with curiosity as to what he said. Since there’s no way to really know, how about some baseless speculation? By all means… “I’ve seen ‘Boy Next Door’ 17 times.” “Once you go Affleck, you never go back-fleck.” “Sometimes I accidentally call my wife by your name.” “We still use ‘Gigli’ as our safe word.”

Maybe they were reminiscing about that time they were at the Oscars together in 2003.

Vin Diesel is going to be a dad again

When he’s not busy making cars go vroom vroom or keeping his Facebook fans entertained, Vin Diesel is apparently making time for making babies. The “Fast and Furious” star and longtime girlfriend Paloma Jimenez are expecting their third child together, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Which is great news, except that the tyke’s presumptive due date conflicts with the fancy Abu Dhabi premiere of “Furious 7” on March 10, so Diesel said he wouldn’t attend. But you can’t have a premiere without the franchise’s biggest star, so the studio has scrapped the Abu Dhabi plans and moved the premiere to Los Angeles.

Diesel and his family are expecting an addition this year.

Love in the time of the Underwoods Interview. Two “House of Cards” insiders talk romance and trust issues.

another for which they would have to risk all of these other things that they’ve worked for in order to be together.

Life in the Beltway

On working together

On their changed circumstances this season:

“House of Cards,” Netflix’s “Macbeth”-esque look at the extremes to which Frank Underwood and his wife, Claire, go to achieve and maintain power, is not known for its love stories. But that’s just what Mahershala Ali’s lobbyist Remy Danton and Molly Parker’s congresswoman Jackie Sharp find themselves in. We talked to them both about why their characters are willing to take risks for love in a powermad world.

Ali: I really just love working with Molly. And any way that I can get that, I’m really appreciative. I think [writer] Beau Willimon does a wonderful job as far as challenging us as actors, and when we sit down and we’re kind of co-creating and collaborating, Molly and I get to really comb through it and try to get to the essence of the relationship. Parker: They’re great scenes. Mahershala is one of the most loving human beings I’ve ever met, truly, and we have such a great time with that relationship, just as actors, just sort of exploring all of the hidden dynamics of that relationship.

Ali: It’s kind of the best place Remy could land considering how things ended up at the end of last season. It’s similar to what he was doing before, but I think the task and the responsibility is so much bigger being chief of staff as compared to working with Frank when he was a congressman. Parker: Their party has lost their majority and because of that, Jackie’s role in the leadership has diminished. She’s retained her seat, but she’s not the majority whip anymore because these Democrats have lost the majority. Although she has sacrificed her own principles for the Underwoods, she now feels that she hasn’t been properly compensated.

On their connection

On what they’ll sacrifice to stay together Ali: Any time you love someone, you’re willing to put yourself out there and take risks for that person. And I think we’ll learn more about that this season, but Jackie just holds a special place in his heart. Parker: She’s had this taste of this power of being in the leadership. At the beginning of the season, we find her in a place where she needs to find a way back to the seat of power, and the way in which she does that has tremendous consequences for her personal life.

The future

Do you any idea where “The Daily Show will go once Jon Stewart leaves? I don’t know. That’s ultimately in the hands of whoever gets the show next. I think unfortunately what’s happening is so many people are speculating and few are appreciating what is happening right now. There was an initial shock when he announced [his leaving], with people saying, “Oh my god, Jon’s leaving, I’m so sad. That lasted about an hour. Then the conversation shifted to who’s going to replace him. And he hasn’t even said when he’s leaving. They’ve already packed his bags.

for Melancholy. Do you see yourself doing other serious acting roles? I don’t know. That’s up to a director more than me. I feel I got very lucky with “Medicine for Melancholy. I am not an actor by trade. Even in that film I was not forced to push myself in the ways really talented actors are. I got to be a slightly different version of myself. I worry that if I did something else I would do the wrong thing and get exposed. “People would think, ‘He got lucky that time. This thing he’s doing now is a train wreck.

When you have a unique selling point, like Panama has with its canal, it can be a blessing and a curse. Visitors come to see the canal but the rest of the country’s attractions can be overlooked. It’s like word association: Panama? Canal! But that’s changing, with travelers discovering this destination in increasing numbers. One of the things visitors are finding is that, like its immediate neighbor Costa

Rica, Panama has wildlife in abundance. As an indication of how varied and bountiful the wildlife is: Panama has more species of birds than the U.S. and Canada combined — in a country that’s smaller than South Carolina. Panama’s national bird is the harpy eagle. It weighs up to 20 pounds and has a wingspan that can go over seven feet, making it the largest and most powerful bird of prey in the

Americas. It’s strong enough to carry off howler monkeys, and is not afraid to attack creatures like sloths and anteaters. The harpy eagle is almost extinct in Central America, but it survives in parts of Panama. As well as colossal birds, Panama is good for watching colossal sea creatures too. From June to November, humpback and sperm whales migrate along the Pacific coast, and are usually easy to

see on whale-watching cruises. You should manage to get good views of dolphins too, from about July to October, with separate dolphin cruises also available. A little more elusive, but also a big draw along the coast, is that relic of the dinosaur era: the sea turtle. Of the seven species that exist, you’ll find five of them in Panama. In September and October,

thousands of female turtles come ashore to lay their eggs in the sand, and from then until December you can book trips to watch the turtles come ashore or to see the hatchlings emerge from their nests and flap their way to the sea. Panama is one of the few places in the world where you can observe this natural spectacle, definitely making the country one for the bucket list for the wildlife enthusiast. Here’s what happens when you get your dating profile critiqued

A popular gay app says it wants to make finding lasting love easier. / ISTOCK

Log on to one of the many gay-dating apps available for a smartphone and you’ll see an ocean of torsos and biceps. It’s no surprise that these apps have developed a reputation for being pretty much just for sex. SCRUFF, one of the most popular apps on the market, is launching a new feature called “SCRUFF Match” that will match men who are looking for relationships with other like-minded individuals. “We did a survey of our members late last year and found that two-thirds of them used SCRUFF for dates or for chat,” the company’s CEO and co-founder Eric Silverberg says. “We’ve been hearing from our members who are really looking for dates or relationships that they wanted an easier way to do it.” SCRUFF Match is the company’s solution. With the new feature, users will be able to go through a series of cards featuring men who both have a clear face picture and specifically state they are looking for a relationship. “The most important feature, frankly, of any service in the dating world is the guys that are there. Whether they’re geo location-based apps, they’re websites or they’re personal ads, ultimately the [main] feature is

Going steady

A more serious search And for those men who may feel disillusioned by gay dating apps? “I think SCRUFF Match, by creating a space for guys specifically who are looking for dates or relationships, is going to provide a different enough experience that, hopefully, will be able to reach a lot of those people who maybe weren’t as attracted to or didn’t find the kind of community they were looking for on apps as they have existed to this day.”

the guys,” Silverberg says. “What makes SCRUFF Match in particular different is we are essentially creating a space for gay guys who are specifically interested in dates and relationships and we’re saying this is a space for you.” SCRUFF Match is creating a unique space among gay dating apps. While others provide the option of filtering for men looking for a relationship, they don’t feel as specific as SCRUFF Match. MATTHEW LEE @mattlee2669 matthew.lee@metro.us

Dating. It’s a jungle out there — make your profile stand out. Is your online dating profile up to snuff ? With so many people using Match, OkCupid and other dating sites, it’s hard to know how to stand out. Daters can ask their friends for advice, but who better to ask than strangers who won’t feel the need to cushion the blow? Ignite Your Match lets users get detailed critiques from 10 men or women in the selected age range (the service costs $29). The service is kind of like a focus group, but for your dating profile. Metro web producer Matt Lee graciously agreed to use Ignite Your Match for his own dating profile, and he was shocked by how honest the comments were. “I did not expect some of the criticism to be so harsh, and borderline rude,” says Lee. “One critic told me I looked awkward and that I should just use a faceless picture for my profile. Thanks a lot, buddy! There were, however, some nice critics who gave some actual constructive advice that I could use to

Stuart Brent, founder of Ignite Your Match, says he sees a lot of the same comments over and over again about the mistakes people make in their online dating profiles. These are the most common turn-offs he sees in the feedback notes: Male profiles: Grammar

YOUR NEWEST ’VILLE HANGOUT: LA BRASA It’s a shame all the “Somerville Is the Next Brooklyn” pieces have already been written, because La Brasa really could’ve gone a long way toward bolstering the case. The restaurant from chefs Daniel Bojorquez and Frank McClelland, of L’Espalier, is the upmarket reinvention of the melting pot South and Central American East Broadway neighborhood in which it has taken root. “It’s an intimate and homey affair that showcases a lot of personality and identity,” bartender Rob Hoover says. “I think the kitchen does that with the food as well, and that’s what we’re trying to replicate at the bar.” The bar program is no less on-trend, with mezcals, sherries and genever showing up throughout the cocktail list of originals and classics. The best I tried was the My Sherry Amour, made with mezcal, amontillado sherry, honey, grapefruit and Cherry Heering. Bartender Ryan Sullivan gave it to himself as a challenge, Hoover says. “He wanted to work around mezcal and sherry in one drink. Both flavors are unique and assertive, and he wanted to tame them, working off the honey notes in sherry, and adding more fruit from the cherry brandy. It’s full flavored, but has that mezcal heat and dryness from the

sherry that marries very well.” Another good match comes in the form of the cocktails on draft pulled from an old kegerator behind the bar. “You batch them up, bring them to dilution, and put them in the keg,” Hoover explains. While they rotate, at the moment the options include the Blue Moon cocktail, a riff on an old recipe that takes gin, lemon, Creme de Violet and soda here for a citrus lemonforward sip. The cocktails can also be carbonated, but will be softer than ones made with a traditional blast of soda. Their intentions with the food, the drinks and the space

are all plain to see, Hoover says. “Everything is kind of exposed. Just like the kegerator, where you can see the guts of the machine. “Instead of keeping things sequestered away, it’s same thing with drinks. We let it all hang out there.”

When Cold War Kids singer Nathan Willett and bassist Matt Maust get really into a live performance, you might see the two butting heads, literally. “We’ve always had this physical thing that a ways into it we figured out was a weird way of getting out nervous energy,” says Willett. “I don’t know where it came from.” Willett says he and Maust butt heads creatively too, but that has been an essential com-

ponent of the band’s chemistry for the past decade. “It drives us both,” he says. “In some ways, maybe I didn’t butt heads enough with the other guys.” The “other guys” he is referring to are the two founding members who have departed in the past few years, leaving Willett and Maust as the only original Cold War Kids in the band. “The friendships move into these constantly-working relationships,” says Willett. But Willett and Maust seem to have found new partners in sound who do share their vision. The band’s latest album, “Hold My Home,” released in October, features new full-time members Joe Plummer on drums and Matthew Schwartz

on keys. Willett says the new lineup has led to a breakthrough in their approach to recording. “As far as the studio relationship goes, it definitely is different now,” he says, citing the song “First,” which kicks off the album and was the last song the band recorded. “It came through a very strange way, where basically I had recorded the vocals way past when we thought we were done with everything on the record and then we changed some drums around and added this guitar part and it ended up being this song that we really love,” he says. “We’re going to start working in the studio again with that in mind.”

Deliberate naivete

How to stay married to a songwriter The songs on “Hold My Home” take a bleaker tone than prior releases. Words like “dark” and “broken” recur. A “brighter” moment involves a narrator in a hotel room who feels a deep human connection when he hears people in the room next door get it on. Is everything in the Willett household OK? “I had a friend who I hadn’t seen in a long time who said the same thing,” laughs Willett. “It makes for a very strange relationship, in a way, because there’s a lot that

Keystone won’t create jobs, just more money for Koch brothers

Minimum wage is for those starting out, not adults

The money is earmarked for Canada and China, not the U.S. A good chunk of it, however, will be going to two Americans: the Koch brothers. They are two of the richest men in the country, and they have an inordinate amount of influence on the country’s politics. The pipeline will cause ecological havoc all along the way and benefit only the Koch brothers and 25 other people. Let’s not allow greed to circumvent the Constitution.

If constitutional procedure were followed, Congress would not be allowed to have the XL Keystone Pipeline’s governmental review bypassed. That review is required. Their attempt to bypass it is not for the benefit of the American people. Only 25 permanent jobs will be created by the pipeline.

While I support increasing minimum wage and tying those increases to inflation, I don’t think the complaint that you can’t support a family on minimum wage holds water. Minimum wage is for teens on their first jobs, whose parents otherwise support them, and whose time has come to learn about being replaceable

The Hoodie in a landslide. (Matt Burke, Metro Boston sports editor) Belichick is a freak. As an Eagles fan, I hate him for SpyGate, but as a football fan, there’s no denying that he’s just plain brilliant. He’s probably No. 1 with or without Malcolm Butler. At just age 54, Pagano has made 12 stops as a college and professional football coach. As the headmaster in Indy, he’s led the Colts to three straight 11-5 seasons. (EM)

Bounty-gate will follow him always, but you can’t take away the 2009 season and what it meant to New Orleans. He’s just 51 and is in the NFC South. Stock is looking up. (EM)

This is a tough call. He’s won two Super Bowls — something few in the history of the league have ever done. But he’s had New York mired in second or third place for three straight seasons. (EM)

Harbaugh has a better postseason win percentage (10-6, .667) than he does in the regular season (643.) His coaching tree includes five other coaches on this list. (EM)

He’s a fantastic coach who has created a defensive juggernaut of historic significance with the Seahawks, but he made the single worst play call in the history of sports. (EM)

His high-paced offense may have some dissenters, but it’s the future of the NFL. (EM)

John Elway bought him a bunch of shiny new toys in Denver and Fox broke nearly all of them. But never forget: This man won a playoff game with Tim Tebow at QB. (MB)

It’s been a good start for O’Brien in Houston. He’s an offensive guy, but he allowed J.J. Watt to have the best defensive season by a player, maybe ever, this past season. (MB)

This is where Evan and I begin to differ. The man’s lifetime postseason record is an unflattering 0-1. Did you know “Arians” is German for “Mornhinweg?” (MB)

Not-so-fun fact: The year before he got the Packers job, he was the OC for the 49ers and that year’s San Francisco team finished dead last in points scored and yards gained. (MB)

He was the quarterbacks coach for the Colts when they won it all in 2006 and he was the OC with the Ravens in 2013 when they claimed glory. (MB)

For all his faults, he’ll likely go down as a legend in Philly, taking the Birds to five NFC championships and nine playoff berths in 14 seasons. (EM)

Rask far from cause of Bruins’ woes The unvarnished truth is that the 2014-15 Bruins are basically locked into either the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference or they’ll miss the postseason entirely. Boston (29-22-9) has lost seven of its last eight games after they returned home with a 2-1 loss to Vancouver (35-22-3). Seventh-place Washington has nine more points than them (76) while Florida is two points behind the Bruins and Philadelphia is four points back. On a team full of underachieving players, goaltender Tuukka Rask (24-

16-9, .919 save percentage, 2.37 goals against average, 2 shutouts) will not repeat as the Vezina Trophy winner, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he personally is having a poor season. The difference between Sunday’s shocking 6-2 win in Chicago and the loss to the Canucks was a perfect juxtaposition of the up-and-down nature of this edition of the Bruins. There is no consistency in their game, and just when you think they are done, they pull that Blackhawks performance out of nowhere or they flop the next time out against a team that just lost it’s top goaltender and playing its fourth

game in six nights on the road. “You can never accept losing,” noted Rask on Tuesday after he made 26 saves but still lost to the Canucks. “Against Chicago and Vancouver, our game was going in the right direction. We looked good and we controlled the puck. I guess that we used up all our goals versus the Blackhawks.” Boston’s lack of a legitimate backup goaltender has been an underrated aspect of their undoing so far this campaign. Niklas Svedberg last started on February 10 vs. Dallas and he was pulled after one ugly period in which he allowed three goals. RICH SLATE

Buyer’s market Rumors surfaced Wednesday morning that a video showing Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant doing “Ray Rice-level” things was going to be released. With the rumor gaining steam, ESPN reporter Adam Schefter said that he’s been working on the story since September. Meanwhile, the sports gossip website Deadspin.com posted a story during the afternoon titled, “If the Dez Bryant Video Exists, We’ll Buy It.” Bryant himself addressed the rumors for the second time in four days, tweeting out, “I need to get me a real raw uncut TV show or something. I can’t continue to get betrayed like this.”
