Giving New Yorkers a new name: Friendly Smile. Fulton Center guard, Chris Bennett, might just be the friendliest New Yorker. Security guard Chris Bennett thinks New Yorkers to deserve to be a little easier on each other. Which is why the 53-year-old continually says good morning to each of the thousands of commuters who rush through Fulton Center on weekday mornings. “People say ‘Why are you so happy?’ And I tell them ‘I’m always happy, we woke up this morning,’ and that frown turns into a smile and they’re like, ‘OK.’ And the next morning I see them and I make sure I focus on them next time. By the end of the week, I can guarantee I have them smiling.” Riders hear Bennett before they see him, his booming voice bouncing up through the 79-foothigh oculus. His go-to phrase is a simple good morning, but he also reminds commuters how many days until Friday. Bennett works for Allied Barton Security Services, which has a contract with the MTA. He previously worked pedestrian safety post at the corner of Church and Vesey Streets, and moved to Fulton Center when it

Snow. Winter returns to New York City on the first day of spring
Residents used to find snow exciting. /MILES DIXON
Get ready for snow to fall steadily this afternoon. The snow showers that were forecast to begin during the morning rush will continue through the rest of the day, said Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Total snowfalls around the city are expected to be
opened in November. He started greeting riders not too long after starting his new post. He came up with the idea to pass the time on his 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. shift, and because he knows he’ll be asked for directions and countless other questions throughout the day. Bennett said his “crew” of regulars start coming in after 7:30 a.m., and factor in a few minutes to stop and chat. And when Bennett isn’t at his normal post to greet commuters, his bosses hear from disappointed commuters. Being this friendly on the job didn’t come naturally. Bennett retired from the Department of Corrections in 2007 after spending more than 20 years as an officer on Rikers Island and Elmhurst Hospital. Now, Bennett wants everyone to try out wishing each other a good morning. “When you work in a jail and you walk the street and people walk up to you, you’re antenna go up, especially if you’re with your family,” Bennett said. “Doing this job allows me to interact with what I call ‘normal people,’ who are doing the same thing, a 9-to-5. Now I’m a part of that.”

Subway. Advocates want commuter tax As straphangers prepare to pull out the extra quarter for each subway and bus ride, local leaders and advocates want New York State to offer income-based fare rates to the city’s working class. The only problem is no one really knows how much it will cost and where the money for such a program will come from. Standing in front of the City Hall subway stop, Public Advocate Letitia James and rider advocates called on city and state lawmakers to adopt reduced fare programs for New Yorkers making below a certain amount of income. James called on state lawmakers to help the 1-in-3 working poor New Yorkers advocates say can’t afford bus or train fares. “What we should be doing in the state of New York is re-instituting a commuter tax, James said. Repealed in 1999 in a bipartisan, state Assembly-
led vote, straphanger advocates said it was a plot to curry favor with suburban voters living in New York City’s outskirts. Before its repeal, most commuters paid less than 1 percent of their yearly income towards the tax. Few local elected leaders have pushed for its return given Albany’s anti-tax climate and Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s reluctance to increase any taxes. CHESTER JESUS SORIA

Winners of MTA app competition named Transit. YoTrain! alerts users about incoming trains via voice notiďŹ cation and texts. The MTA, along with AT&T, Transit Wireless, and New York University’s Center for Urban Science and Progress, doled out $50,000 in prize money to developers on Thursday who created apps to help New Yorkers better navigate the city’s transit system. The largest chunk of change went to YoTrain!, which won a $10,000 grand prize for Best Accessibility App for MTA Customers with Disabilities. Nguyen said the app’s voice alerts will help visually-impaired riders who can’t see the countdown clocks in the stations. New York City leaders demand: ‘Let her in’ Politics. Local leaders demand Cuomo include Stewart-Cousins in budget talks. A growing group of local New York City leaders want Gov. Andrew Cuomo to know gender equality begins at the statehouse. Brooklyn City Councilwoman Laurie Cumbo said Thursday she felt duped by the governor’s campaign promises about women equality while Senate minority leader Sen. Andrea StewartCousins is left out of ongoing budget talks. “We cannot be used as window dressing during the campaign season and hidden and pushed to the back during budget season,” Cumbo said. Yorkers: education, transportation, development, housing and more. Cumbo placed the responsibility for diversifying the budget negotiations squarely on the governor’s shoulders. “While there’s a three-card monte game in terms of who’s saying they do or don’t want her in the room, it’s really important that we put the onus on Gov. Islamic State says it killed tourists in Tunisia
Tunisia said it would deploy the army to major cities and arrested nine people on Thursday after 20 foreign tourists were shot dead in an attack on a museum, which Islamic State militants called “the first drop of the rain.” Officials did not confirm the militants’ claim of responsibility but said they had identified two gunmen shot dead by security forces after the shootings, which targeted tourist buses visiting the Bardo Museum on Wednesday. The two gunmen were trained at a jihadist camp in Libya, the Tunisian government said. Interior ministry official Rafik Chelli said the two
men had been recruited at mosques in Tunisia and traveled to Libya in September. The assault — the deadliest attack involving foreigners in Tunisia since a 2002 suicide bombing in Djerba — came at a fragile moment for a country just emerging to full democracy after its pioneering popular uprising four years ago. Prosecutors seek evidence in Christie’s bridge scandal
Federal prosecutors have issued a new subpoena seeking evidence of claims that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s Republican administration deliberately snarled traffic on the George Washington Bridge as political retaliation against the Democratic mayor of Jersey City, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday. Citing a person familiar with the matter, the paper said the subpoena issued this week to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey seeks records from a broad range of former Authority officials regarding their interactions with Jersey City. Tesla to offer hands-free steering
Assange likely to remain in embassy
Tesla Motors will soon offer upgrades including hands-free steering on its Model S sedan, Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said on Thursday, but the news did not help the electric carmaker’s volatile shares, which fell more than 2 percent. Tesla is set to offer the automatic steering feature in three months, about a year ahead of other automakers. It will be available only when driving on freeways or major roads, as part of a continuing series of free software upgrades delivered wirelessly to Model S owners, Musk said. REUTERS
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is likely to remain at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London where he has taken refuge as long as U.S. authorities pursue a criminal investigation of his anti-secrecy group, one of his lawyers said. Speculation rose that he might leave the embassy after Swedish authorities last week offered to question him there over allegations of sexual misconduct, dropping their insistence that he go to Stockholm for questioning about a 2010 incident. He refused to return to Sweden, arguing that the Swedes would send him on to the United States to face possible trial. REUTERS

Capital punishment. Dzhokhar could be sentenced to death if convicted of the charges. The Boston Marathon bombing trial jury on Thursday saw the remains of a pressure-cooker bomb that prosecutors say Dzhokhar Tsarnaev hurled at police during a gunfight four days after the bombing as well as jihadist files recovered from his laptop. The bomb, described as similar to the twin bombs set off at the race, was ex-
tracted from a Honda Civic in which it embedded itself on a Watertown, Massachusetts street after Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his older brother, Tamerlan, detonated it during the gunfight. An FBI agent testified that investigators recovered several apparently jihadist documents on Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s laptop, including at least three copies of Al Qaeda’s “Inspire” magazine, one featuring a cover story headlined “Make a Bomb in the Kitchen of Your Mom,” and another brochure-type document titled “Jihad and the Effects of Intention Upon It.” REUTERS

This was a better representation of the pressure cooker as a whole.” Corcoran testified in U.S. District Court in Boston, looking at both the main pot and its lid, which was found halfway down the block from the blast site, in a child-sized soccer goal in a home’s side yard.

It works by first breaking apart, then disintegrating your stubborn fat cells – so you drop pounds and inches even while you SLEEP! And best of all, Shred360™ was just released to the general public. That means you can experience unprecedented weight loss too.

THE SHRED360™ EFFECT: DESTROYS AND ELIMINATES FAT CELLS
It works by first breaking apart, then disintegrating your stubborn fat cells – so you drop pounds and inches even while sitting or even sleeping!
Fitness Professionals Praise The Fat Burning Power of Shred360™
Analysts Think Shred360™ Could put Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers Out of Business by 2018 Analysts (who have studied Shred360™’s ability to isolate, breakup and eliminate fat from the body) predict traditional weight loss companies will be obsolete in the next 4-years. Let’s be honest. For most of us, the absolute ease of losing fat with Shred360™ is much more important than the science of “how it works”. As one Wall Street Investor put it, “By using Shred360™ - you can eat like a normal person, skip the gym, and lose the fat you want while you sleep – so who in their right mind would ever use a company like Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers? The answer, clearly, is no one.” No more tasteless “diet frozen meals”, no more prepackaged “food”, no more time consuming trips to the gym, and no more clubs
to join - PLUS Shred360™ nearly doubles your metabolism and burns fat while you SLEEP – making it the most important breakthrough in weight loss history… and that has mainstream companies worried…
Produced Under Highly Controlled Environmental Conditions In Small Batches, So Supplies Are Very Limited Shred360™ was originally developed for Top Fitness Professionals (a very small market) and was never meant to be the allaround fat burner that it, thankfully, turned out to be. Because of this, Shred360™ is produced under highly controlled conditions, in one of America’s Top Certified Supplement manufacturing facilities, in very small batches… making supplies quite limited. This production method guarantees that Shred360™ is always pure, always safe, and always effective. Shred360™ truly is a “Professional Grade” supplement.
Special Opportunity for Our Readers – Small Sample of Shred360™ Made Available with No-Questions-Asked 365-Day Guarantee! Tag Heuer and Intel challenge Apple with Android smartwatch Watch out. Some luxury watch executives remained skeptical about smartwatches. Now, that’s a treehouse! Architectural project
Eco house takes root in Turin Designed by Italian architect Luciano Pia, “25 Verde” is an unique residential building in Turin which creates a transition from outdoors to indoors,
housing 150 trees that absorb close to 200,000 liters of carbon dioxide per hour. This natural absorption brings pollution protection to its residents, helping to eliminate emissions caused by cars or nearby factories. MWN

Q&A
Luciano pia, Turin-based architect What message do you want to spread with this concept? We can think of ways of living environments and also ones different from what we usually propose. With this in mind, one can create models of living that are more hu-
man. We don’t necessarily have to build a house for height, but we must keep it on a human scale. Otherwise you will lose the human scale and our cities become inhuman.
are all people who bought into the concept of this housing complex. I am very happy to live in the woods and they found a human dimension of community that has now vanished in the city.
Do you believe that the inhabitants of this house live better than others? The people living in this building have chosen to live in it in a conscious way. They
Why Turin and in this particular place? Because the developer had this building area and not another. Even now I’ve found the place ugly and shabby,
but I accepted the challenge, and now people who live there are happy. Why is “25 Verde” seen as an innovative house? It’s a project done in accordance to the well-being of the people, so that they are closer to nature, wrapped in it. The units are designed according to a cell housing plan, in which everyone can organize their living space freely,
without constraints pillars or installations. What were the biggest obstacles to build the house? The biggest obstacles we encountered are lack of desire for innovation, lack of desire to experiment and traveling down roads that are not those normally traveled. The Australian actress enters the “Divergent” fray with the franchise’s second film, “Insurgent.” NED EHRBAR @Nedrick ned.ehrbar@metro.lu
Naomi Watts makes dystopia look good. ANDREW COOPER
Joining an established franchise can be daunting even for the most experienced of actresses, and for Naomi Watts, becoming a part of “The Divergent Series: Insurgent” came with plenty of first-day jitters. “When I arrived on the set, it was a little scary because this is a very welloiled machine,” Watts says. “I was just wildly impressed with how fast they were moving and how disciplined all of these young actors were. When there’s that many people, you can sometimes sense a little rivalry here, a few issues there, but they felt very connected.” The center of that warm fuzziness, apparently, was star Shailene Woodley. “I remember when I first met Shailene, I was just enveloped in this giant hug,” Watts recalls. Watts co-stars as Evelyn, estranged mother of Four (Theo James) and leader of the outcast Factionless in the dystopic future of the “Divergent” world, but as an actress, she honestly thought her actionpacked days were over. “I remember back in the day, when I was at the very end of my ingenue days, being in ‘King Kong’ and having to do quite a lot of physical stuff, making the promise to myself that I would never do that again,” she says with a laugh. “But now I’m an older woman
— or a much more mature woman — and I don’t have to do quite what Shailene has to go through. But we’ll see about that for the next movie.” While the action wasn’t too involving for her, there were some aspects to Evelyn that were tough to connect with, like how she abandoned her son when he was very young. “That one was very hard to reconcile,” Watts admits. “But we know that she was going through something that she felt was life-threatening, and a great deal of abuse, and that was a survival choice that she had to make.” Watts sees this as just the beginning for Evelyn. “It’s a fun character because that’s a complex thing to take on, the regret.
“I couldn’t imagine that anything could be so bad that my children would be left, but this is the world of storytelling.” Naomi Watts
But she’s got drive, and she wants to fix the relationship, genuinely,” she says. “Perhaps there’s something else going on as well, like she knows that both of [Woodley’s and James’] characters are going to help her achieve things. So it’s hard to establish what her motives are in this movie. We’ll obviously explore that more in the next film.”

2015 Service Changes
Major 7 Line Weekend Service Changes In 2015, significant weekend work on three capital improvement projects on the 7 Line in Queens continues: installation of a new Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signal system; elevated track replacement and infrastructure work; and the reconstruction and fortification of the Steinway Tubes. The majority of this work is scheduled over weekends when ridership is lower and gives our workers continuous, train-free access to the 7 Line. We are aware of the inconvenience these and other disruptions cause, and we appreciate your patience. These projects will bring a modern, stateof-the-art signal system and reliable, resilient infrastructure upgrades to the 7 Line.

Sean Penn is just trying to promote “The Gunman,” but people keep bringing up the Oscars and that “green card” joke he made when “Birdman” won Best Picture. “I’m always surprised by flagrant stupidity. I keep having more hope,” he says. “I have absolutely no apologies. In fact, I have a big ‘f— you’ for anybody who is so stupid not to have gotten the irony when you’ve got a country that is so xenophobic. If they had their way, you wouldn’t have great filmmakers like Alejandro [Gonzalez Inarritu] working in this country. Thank God we do.” As for critics calling him
insensitive about the immigration issue, he is even more direct: “I think they can be a bit more cheerful,” Penn says. “When somebody as special as Alejandro makes a film as special as ‘Birdman,’ if he has a friend onstage, maybe that friend wants to let him know that he won privately for a moment before the room knows. So I wanted him to know it first, and that’s who I was talking to, so I don’t give a f— about all those other people.” But about “The Gunman.” It’s directed by Pierre Morel, who made Liam Neeson an action star with “Taken.” And given that Penn is also a respected actor of a certain age, comparisons have been drawn — not that he agrees with the assessment. “I thought Harrison Ford made a whole career on this stuff, and I didn’t think it was considered, like, a new trend or anything like that — what I call ‘geri-action,’” Penn says. “Admittedly, there’s a tremendous amount of ac-
tion; one can’t say it’s not an action movie, but it’s a different kind of movie also because it’s not a ‘wink at the audience’ movie.” But action is action, and Penn — who shows off his efforts by ditching his shirt whenever possible — didn’t escape entirely without injuries. “Little ones,” he admits. “There was an extraordinarily achy body at the end of the film, but that’s accumulative.” Even if “The Gunman” enjoys “Taken” levels of success, he’s not eyeing a franchise, and not just because of the aches and pains: “I wouldn’t allow myself to think about that. I got projects I want to direct, and that’s what I want to focus on.” Of course, ask him immediately after he’s finished filming, and he’d tell you he’ll never make another movie again, sequel or no sequel. “I think, if I can remember what it feels like after it’s done, that I would never do it again,” Penn says. “But it’s a perishable awareness.”

SXSW Aubrey Plaza’s superhero aspirations Aubrey Plaza has made a name for herself in the comedy and independent film worlds with projects like the recently wrapped “Parks and Recreation” and her SXSW film premiere, “Fresno.” But that doesn’t mean she wouldn’t be down to suit up for something in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I would love to play some kind of badass superhero. I’m sure everyone would. What’s not to love about that?” Plaza says. “I really like doing grounded, indie movies also, but the reason I fell in love with acting and movies was because I wanted to, like, play an alien from another dimension, do things that only happen in your imagination.” The only question, of course, is which comic book character she could play. I’m going to go with SpiderWoman. Or maybe a new female Hawkeye. NED EHRBAR
‘Insurgent’ has Shailene Woodley and nothing else to recommend it MATT PRIGGE @mattprigge matt.prigge@metro.us
When we last saw dystopian youth Tris (Shailene Woodley), she had escaped her fascistic city for the outskirts. Here, she tries to kill her nemesis (Kate Winslet) — after she agrees to her demands to do a test involving a mysterious box. The lowdown: The second “Divergent” film has only one thing to glowingly recommend it: Shailene Woodley. As the series’ resident reluctant messiah, the actress isn’t merely a tough-but-vulnerable Katniss-Jennifer Lawrence type; her emotions are right there, found in her expressive eyes. When she’s onscreen, her stress seems all too real: The entire movie rests on Woodley, unduly demanding she supply all of its heart and feeling.

Instead, everyone — including a growly Penn — is in paycheck mode, cruising on their natural screen presences, having some fun but not taking it very seriously. Why would they? Indeed, Pierre Morel is the ideal director for this kind of thing, which, despite having a screenplay credit for Penn, winds up aspiring to be no more than a “Bourne” knockoff for slightly older actors than Matt Damon and Jeremy Renner. “Top Chef” Michael Voltaggio is taking a break from cooking challenges to try and bring people together. LISA WEIDENFELD @LisaWeidenfeld lisa.weidenfeld@metro.us
A new Travel Channel show has come up with a unique way to resolve international conflict: by gathering people around the dinner table and having a famous chef cook them a fabulous meal. The show, “Breaking Borders,” features “Top Chef” winner Michael Voltaggio and journalist Mariana van Zeller traveling to strife-torn countries and trying to initiate some healing. The show visits such places as Egypt, Northern Ireland and Cambodia, meeting with people on each side of the country’s conflict and trying to promote a productive discussion over a meal cooked by Voltaggio. That can lead to some intense dinner conversations. “There’s definitely been some emotion at the table. There’s been anger; there’s been crying. But there’s been laughter, and there’s been forgiveness,” says Voltaggio. “We’re not really talking about politics. We’re talking about people.” His co-host had the challenging job of moderating the discussion. “It’s been tough. I’m not going to lie. There have been

moments where we’ve had people want to stand up and leave the table, where we’ve had guests completely dominate the debate,” says van Zeller. “But I think the show has done a great job of putting it together in a way that you hear both sides, and everybody gets their say.” Filming in places that have seen violence comes with its own form of difficulty. “Egypt was incredibly challenging
to film,” says van Zeller. “Almost every time we put the camera out in public, we were approached by the police, and they took our passports.” Voltaggio faced his own difficulties when it came time for him to prep the meal. “There was basically a chimney, and it overlooked the pyramids, which was cool, and it made a good scene for the dinner, but when it was time to cook, I’m like,

‘Where’s the kitchen?’” he explains. “We made arrangements to cook in this restaurant, but the economy was so bad that the restaurant had closed four years ago, so it was basically an abandoned restaurant. I had to go out in the streets and find hot plates to cook on, and there’s power issues. There was always a bit of a challenge in every place, but I think that’s what made it a little bit more fun.”
Voltaggio and van Zeller hadn’t met before working on the show but found their groove quickly. “We’re like brother and sister. We hit it off the minute we met. That was a huge relief,” says Voltaggio. With all that time together, is van Zeller picking up any cooking tips? “My husband was so excited when he knew that I was going to do the show, because he thought, ‘Oh, finally, I’m going to have a wife who knows how to cook,’ and unfortunately I don’t,” van Zeller says with a laugh. Though she says she helped Voltaggio out in the kitchen whenever she could, she’s not quite an expert yet. “At the end, I’ve become really good at squeezing lemons. … Such an easy thing to do, and that’s the only thing he trusts me to accomplish in the kitchen.”

Singer Nathan Willett talks head butts, new members and recording techniques. PAT HEALY @MetroBOS letters@metro.us
When Cold War Kids singer Nathan Willett and bassist Matt Maust get really into a live performance, you might see the two literally butting heads. “We’ve always had this physical thing that, a ways into it, we figured out was a weird way of getting out nervous energy,” says Willett. “I don’t know where it came from.” Willett says he and Maust butt heads creatively too, but that has been an essential component of the band’s chemistry for the past decade. “It drives us both,” he says. “In some ways, maybe I didn’t butt heads enough with the other guys.” The “other guys” he is referring to are the two founding members who have departed in the past few years, leaving Willett and Maust as the only original Cold War Kids. But the pair seems to have found new partners in sound who do share their vision. The band’s latest album, “Hold My Home,” released in October, features new full-time members Joe Plummer on drums and Matthew Schwartz on keys. Willett says the lineup has also led to a change in their approach to recording.

How to stay married to a songwriter The songs on “Hold My Home” take a bleaker tone than prior releases. Words like “dark” and “broken” recur. A “brighter” moment involves a narrator in a hotel room who feels a deep human connection when he hears people in the room next door get it on. Is everything in the Willett household OK? “I had a friend who I hadn’t seen in a long time who said the
same thing,” laughs Willett. “It makes for a very strange relationship, in a way, because there’s a lot that comes out in the music that you probably can’t even have conversations about.” He says his spouse doesn’t read too deeply into it. “I’m really glad that my wife is not curious at all about that,” he says. “There’s a very deliberate naivete when it comes to that, which I love. I don’t necessarily want to understand the lyrics better than I do, and I certainly don’t want to have to explain them to somebody who’s such a part of them.”

Bush administration, and it was under Bush that the current strategy of “managing” Iran’s nuclear activities began. It should also be noted that Israel, unlike

How to play Fill in the grid so that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1-9. There is no math involved. You solve the puzzle with reasoning and logic.
Iran, refused to sign the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, spied on the U.S. and stole industrial secrets from us, illegally obtained highly enriched uranium from us, has nuclear weapons, and has tried to sell them abroad. Israel has also been proven spectacularly wrong about their neighbors before: They accused Iraq of building nuclear weapons and bombed a civilian nuclear power plant, but international inspectors who examined the ruins found no sign of weapons manufacturing at all. We must be wary of the hardliners in Iran. However, we must be even more wary of ill-informed, hard-line policies that strengthen those radicals rather than strengthening the more West-leaning moderates in Iran. PETER ADAMS, VIA EMAIL

Wright-Phillips, Red Bulls seek an encore season MLS. New York’s humble soccer star downplays his scoring abilities. Bradley Wright-Phillips may be the most reluctant star in the history of MLS. A season ago, WrightPhillips did the incredible, breaking the New York Red Bulls’ all-time goal scoring mark and tying the league’s record for most goals in a season. Now in 2015, he doesn’t expect an encore although those around him think he can do it. “I’m going to go in the same way I [did] last season, just trying to get into the first 11, and I tried to stay there. That’s all I’ve done,” Wright-Phillips told Metro. “It depends what you expect from me. For me personally, I want to secure that spot up top and start trying to score goals. I don’t think about topping last season. I think if you try to do that, it’s almost guaranteed failure. It’s a game by game thing.” But in a league where there has not a back-toback top scorer in its first 19 years, Wright-Phillips is less concerned about goals and more concerned about wins. This was a Red Bulls team, after all, that was just a game short of the MLS Cup last year.
Battle for New York New York City FC opened their home slate at Yankee Stadium with over 43,000 fans. •
The Red Bulls, meanwhile, open their 2015 home schedule at Red Bull Arena this Sunday (5 p.m., ESPN2).
•
NYCFC will be on the road this weekend, facing the Rapids in Colorado on Saturday (4 p.m., DSG).
He quietly says that this team can do some good things again, even after an offseason where they lost star players Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill, as well as their popular head coach, Mike Petke. It was Petke who signed Wright-Phillips two years ago, seeing something in the spry Englishman and believing that his style could do well in the league. Wright-Phillips hates attention. After practice, he rolled his eyes when asked to do a media request, the idea of an ice bath or a massage much more appealing. But he does it, a wellspoken, if soft-spoken Brit who loves nothing more than to turn a personal question into an answer about his teammates.
Winning the golden boot hasn’t been kind to most goal scorers. In 1996, Roy Lassiter scored 27 goals, a mark that stood until 2012; but one year after his record tally he scored just 10 goals, a trend that has played out consistently throughout this league. It was Chris Wondowlowski who finally tied Lassiter’s mark in 2012 but over the next two seasons, he has combined for just 25 goals. “I don’t think I could... it’s so arrogant to think that I could come here and not work and just chill out. Especially with [new head coach] Jesse [Marsch], I feel that if I don’t do what he told me, I’d be on the bench,” Wright-Phillips said. “I definitely came here wanting to work and run hard.” Wright-Phillips may be hesitant to promote another epic scoring run, but for Marsch, the skill set is fully there. “I think Bradley is motivated by team success, Marsch said. “I think he can still score 27 goals, I really do. The way he’s playing, I think he’s going to have chances. If you look, he’s scored in almost every pre-season match he’s played.” KRISTIAN DYER @KristianRDyer sports@metro.us

St. John’s goes a magnificent seven deep, highlighted by four rocksolid guards, a tweener and a rim protector. This issue is that with starting center Chris Obekpa suspended, the Red Storm are small. In the space of just the ďŹ rst three games of the NCAA Tournament Thursday, the brackets had lost two No. 3 seeds and nearly were sans a third. Just minutes after No. 3 Notre Dame fended o feisty No. 14 Northeastern, 6965, to start the secondround action, Iowa State was stunned by UAB. The No. 3-seeded Cyclones trailed the Blazers by a triple with seconds left, and when a three-point try failed, a meaningless two-point tip-in clinched the one-point win for 14-seeded UAB, 60-69.
