Crash. The crane was hoisting a huge piece of equipment more than 30 stories high when it collapsed on Sunday morning. At least 10 people were injured Sunday when a crane hoisted 30 stories high dropped a massive heating and air conditioning unit onto the street below. Officials said the spectacular accident, which left smoke pluming in its wake, occurred about 10:45 a.m. at 261 Madison Avenue, between 38th and 39th streets, when the crane dropped the unit, which hit the building several times before crashing into the street. The impact sent debris flying, injuring 10 people. “Thank goodness this occurs at this hour, on

New Yorkers no strangers to crane tragedies While officials breathed a sigh of relief Sunday that no one was fatally injured, New York has had a tragic past in terms of crane collapses.
The worst crane accident in recent city history was in March 2008, when a 300-foot-tall crane collapsed at 303 East 51st Street, killing seven people, injuring dozens of others and leveling a brownstone. Buildings Commissioner Patricia Lancaster

a weekend, when there were not many people around,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a press conference after surveying the damage. Two construction workers were taken to Bellevue Hospital Center, and eight others were
taken to NYU Langone Medical Center, said FDNY Assistant Chief Ronald Spadafora. None of the injuries were lifethreatening, and EMS Chief James Booth said everyone was awake. Eyewitness Ian Duncan Ball said he was go-
eventually resigned after an investigation revealed corruption. Master rigger William Rapetti was acquitted of seven counts of manslaughter in 2010. Two months after the deadly crash, a crane collapsed on the Upper East Side, killing two construction workers.
ing into a friend’s building near the scene when the unit fell. “I was standing next to the doorman, and we both kind of looked at each other and said they better not drop that thing,” Ball said. “Imagine throwing a bus off of a building,” Ball said, estimating the unit weighed a few tons and was the size of a school bus. “It was a hell of a crash … the way it was situated on this crane, it was way too big for the height it was at.”
Traffic was blocked off between 34th and 42nd streets. The mayor said he hopes all roads will be open by rush hour on Monday morning. “We didn’t hear anything, but we were playing loud music,” said a barista working at a nearby Starbucks on Madison Avenue at 41st Street. The building, which is not far from Grand Central, is described as a 28-story, 385,046-squarefoot office tower. It is owned by the Sapir Organization. The crane was operated by Bay Crane. The organizations did not return calls for comment. Department of Buildings Commissioner Rick Chandler said the crane was in good working order and construction at 261 Madison Avenue started in February. Officials said the city will conduct a thorough investigation. WENDY JOAN BIDDLECOMBE Wendy.Biddlecombe@metro.us

Five people were arrested in Brooklyn on the weekend while filming a video that featured Busta Rhymes, French Montana and Ja Rule paying tribute to slain Queens rapper Chinx, police said. Wendy Miranda, 30, Frank Bartlett, 35, Ronald James, 32, Ebonee Eastmond, 27, and Edward Elkins, 36, were all arrested on varying weapons and drug charges. The video tribute was being filmed behind a supermarket in East New York, and police were called by local residents. Lionel “Chinx” Pickens, a rapper from Far Rockaway and part of French Montana’s Coke Boys, was shot and killed on May 17. METRO

The Stonewall Inn could get official status as a landmark of New York. / GETTY IMAGES
The Stonewall Inn, an icon of the LGBT rights movement for nearly 50 years, is up for consideration to become a New York City landmark this week. As gay pride month kicks off, the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission will discuss giving the bar official preservation status, which would mean any changes to its structure would have to be approved by the city. “We definitely think it’s an incredibly impor-
tant and long overdue idea. This is a site that has international renown as the birthplace of the modern LGBT or gay rights movement,” said Andrew Berman, director of the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation. In June 1969, the historic hotel was the scene of the Stonewall riots after police raided the bar in line with the city’s laws against homosexuality in public at the time. NIDHI PRAKASH

Beau Biden, son of VP, dies at 46 from cancer Loss. Tributes have poured in for the former Delaware attorney general after his death from cancer. Former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, son of Vice President Joe Biden, died on Saturday after battling brain cancer, the vice president said. He was 46. “The entire Biden family is saddened beyond words,” Vice President Biden said in a statement. “We know that Beau’s spirit will live on in all of us, especially through his brave wife, Hallie, and two remarkable children,

Natalie and Hunter,” he said. Beau Biden had announced last year he planned to run for governor of Delaware in 2016. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in August 2013 and underwent surgery, radiation and che-
motherapy. After getting a “clean bill of health” in November of that year, his cancer recurred in the spring of 2015, the vice president’s office said. He sought aggressive treatment and had been hospitalized this month at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center outside Washington. His family was with him when he died. After eight years as attorney general in Delaware, Beau Biden joined the investor law firm Grant & Eisenhofer in 2015. He served a yearlong tour in Iraq as a member of the Delaware Army National Guard. He suffered a mild stroke in 2010. REUTERS

Jeb Bush says US should embed some troops for training
TOM FOREMAN PREDICTS THIS WEEK IN POLITICS. HE IS A CNN CORRESPONDENT AND AUTHOR OF THE UPCOMING BOOK “MY YEAR OF RUNNING DANGEROUSLY: A DAD, A DAUGHTER, AND A RIDICULOUS PLAN.”
Jeb Bush, calling President Barack Obama’s handling of the Islamic State a failure, said the United States should embed some U.S. troops with Iraqi forces to train them and identify targets.
Washington stormfront As I write this, I am sitting in the beautiful Boston Public Garden, with the sun shining, the birds singing and the swan boats swimming. Who could imagine storms in such a setting? And yet, this week I fear dark clouds will be ripping up the political seaboard.
1. SHIVER ME TIMBERS: The Good Ship Hillary is almost being swamped by the weight of all the gold onboard. The presidential hopeful and her once-waspresident husband, are taking on water fast amid relentless reports about riches. The latest broadside came from a New York Times article that painted Clinton Foundation fundraising tactics in a less than favorable light; suggesting the family’s star power was being used to pirate funds from smaller charities. In the turbulent wake of previous comments about being dead broke, needing to pay bills and so on, even Democratic powerhouse Rep. Nancy Pelosi is saying the ultimate power couple will “have to answer” for the course they’ve charted. 2. THAR SHE BLOWS: All those problems have helped give a glimmer of hope to other Democrats looking to plunder the party’s nomination, and they are hoisting their sails fast even though the winds are still far from favorable.
9
CHAFEE
Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee will likely join the regatta this week because, you know, the Ocean State is a political powerhouse. (Well, no, not really.) And don’t be surprised to see Maryland’s Martin O’Malley and Vermont’s Bernie Sanders dancing a horn pipe around the mizzenmast if Hillary’s boat keeps tipping. They’ll have plenty of company. On the Republican waterfront, Texan Rick Perry and South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham will put their oars into the water for their party’s nomination.
3. I’LL HAVE A CUBA LIBRE: Oh, and U.S.-Cuba relations are improving so rapidly, count on even more developments this week — perhaps even something for landlubbers on the island nation like the announcement of embassy openings.
For exclusive ccommentary, visit Metro.us/blogs.
The expected presidential candidate, in an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” said he was not calling for U.S. combat forces to be deployed in Iraq, in what would be a return to the war policy run by his brother, former President George W. Bush. But Jeb Bush said there are steps the United States can take to counter Islamic State’s rise in the region.
Obama has largely relied on U.S. air strikes to attack Islamic State targets in a policy that has had some successes but has not stopped the militants. Bush’s thinking about Iraq is significant since earlier this month when he was embroiled in a controversy over whether he would have launched the Iraq war in 2003 “given what we know now.” Bush
said he would have done so but later disavowed the comment, saying he had misinterpreted the question. Bush, expected to announce a run for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination in coming weeks, said the United States needs to coordinate closely with the Iraqi government and military. REUTERS

In some of the most intense Mediterranean traďŹƒc of the year, migrants who left Libya in 25 boats were picked up by ships from Italy, Britain, Malta and Belgium, assisted by planes from Iceland and Finland, the EU’s border control agency Frontex said. Naval and merchant vessels involved in rescue operations also came from countries including Germany, Ireland and Denmark. The 17 corpses found on one of the boats arrived in the Sicilian port of Augusta aboard the Italian navy corvette Fenice. Italian prosecutors are investigating how they died. Stage set for lingering stando over Illinois budget
A stando between Democrats who control the Illinois Legislature and the state’s Republican governor may extend well into the summer after no deals emerged ahead of the end of the spring legislative session on Sunday. Kristen Bell’s accidental Uber pool
There’s a lesson to be learned from Kristen Bell’s recent misadventure with Uber: Be careful which option you select, because Uber Pool means you’re sharing your ride. The “Veronica Mars” star thought she was getting a normal, private lift home when things took a turn for the communal. “Didn’t know Uber had a carpool option, but my driver just pulled over and said, ‘Gotta pick someone else up.’ This should be fun,” she tweeted. But her discomfort is our entertainment: She livetweeted the incredibly awkward ride, fears for her safety and all: “Not sure where the other rider is headed but we’re getting close to my house,” she wrote. “Then it occurs to me: ‘What if he’s coming over?’”

Bruce Jenner’s Vanity Fair debut
Bruce Jenner is apparently choosing his big moments wisely. So many unanswered questions. Daily video
Now that the “Mad Men” finale is behind us, are you feeling like there were some plot threads that didn’t get tied up to your satisfaction? Well, the show’s writers feel your pain. Creator Matthew Weiner recently showed off a mangled wish list titled “Things we want
to deal with before the series ends.” While several items are crossed out, a lot remain unchecked. For instance, Dr. Faye was maybe going to make an appearance. But the saddest item on the list? The one that poignantly asks, “Sal — what happened to him?” Indeed.

Interview. The “San Andreas” star talks about the benefits of not aging. While busy promoting “San Andreas,” her new Dwayne Johnson-led disaster film, actress Alexandra Daddario casually drops in the phrase “as a 29-year-old,” causing more than a few double takes. Daddario plays Johnson’s college-age daughter in the film, and elsewhere, she says, she’s rarely asked to act her age. You’re 29. That’s kind of surprising. Do people often not believe your age? Um, yeah. I have discovered as I near my 30s that I still play young and that I still go out for younger roles. I think that’s a good thing, I guess. [Laughs] But also, I like being 29 because I’ve found that I found a strength within myself that I didn’t have when I was younger. And I’ve matured a great deal and learned a lot. I’ve heard this before from women, that as you reach your 30s, all the bulls— and the things you were worried about in your 20s and as a teenager fade, and you find yourself. And I’m realizing that’s happening, and it’s a really wonderful thing. I think it helps me play
these stronger characters, in a way. I was worried about turning 30, but it turned out 29 was the tough one. I’m so glad you said that because 29 has been very weird for me. But I’ve heard other people say that as well. I’ve heard it was 27 that’s supposed to be rough, but 27 wasn’t. Twenty-nine is a bit odd. ALEXANDRA DADDARIO GETTY IMAGES
Speaking of strong characters, you’re playing a very capable, heroic young woman here, but they don’t beat you over the head with it. There’s a lot of discussion about women’s roles in Hollywood and “strong female characters,” and I think that what it was for me was a discovery that I am strong — I don’t need to pretend to be strong. I don’t need to be anything other than I am. We are, in a way, all the same. We are strong. It’s just about [how] you don’t need to do it in a false way or in a way that feels contrived. This film calls for you to play terrified for an extended period of time. What’s the

method for that, and is it exhausting? It can be very exhausting, but it’s sort of therapeutic in a way. I’ve done a lot of films where you have to maintain a level of hysteria for long periods of time, and it can be very exhausting, but I think once you get yourself to that point, it’s easy to tap into. Your body sort of gets tricked into thinking that something is terribly wrong, and if you can get yourself to that point, then it’s easier to cry and get hysterical on a dime. But when you do get
home at the end of the day, it’s a bit, “Holy s—, what the hell?” Doing that doesn’t sound like it’s the healthiest thing in the world to do to your body. You know, you have to be crazy to be an actor, but it’s sort of fun. We always, as human beings, are trying to keep ourselves under control and be completely mature and responsible. It’s nice to just be like, “F— it.” Like, whatever’s bothering me, I can just let go of it right now.
Yeah. I read a lot of scripts and see a lot of different characters, and I think that the statistics are interesting. There are still fewer leading roles for women than there are for men, but that’s changing. And I think that it’s important that we’re having the discussion and that we’re getting more women in the directors’ chairs and as producers. I work with more and more women every film I do, and that’s very exciting. NED EHRBAR @Nedrick ned.ehrbar@metro.us
“Fraction Of An Inch” Success And Failure With Popular Vital Information All Knee Arthritis Sufferers By Matt Edgar-Health Writer Manhattan - In just a moment I’m going to tell you about a very “candid” and somewhat embarrassing moment I had with a doctor. A moment most doctors would not want you to know about. As I reveal what happened in that moment - it will become clear to you not only why this doctor has so much success treating knee arthritis pain... but you will also discover a possible way to relieve some or all of your pain, too. But before I tell you all that - let me ask you this: How would you like to finally have a real medical solution for your knee arthritis pain? Not some scam sold on an infomercial or the internet. A real medical treatment that has already worked for countless people just like you and is covered by most insurance and medicare? Can you imagine what it would feel like to be able to eliminate enough of your pain and stiffness so you can get out of bed without pain and go for walks and even do things like play golf or tennis? How relieved would you be if you felt so much better that you no longer needed to go through total knee replacement surgery and all the grueling rehabilitation? Sounds Too Good To Be True? I’m glad we agree. It does sound too good to be true. That’s because all patients react differently and get different results from real medical treatments. That’s also why no ethical doctor would promise or guarantee ANY results... for
ANY treatment. EVER. In fact - if you do start hearing over-the-top, exaggerated claims like: “cure for knee arthritis” or “eliminates all pain” or “works for everyone” you should run like heck. But the fact of the matter is: If you qualify for the treatment you are about to discover, there is a good chance you may be able to relieve some or much of your pain. I know because thousands of knee arthritis sufferers... just like you... have already found the relief you are looking for. And even better - this might work for you if your pain is new... or if you have advanced knee arthritis that has made it difficult to even walk. Here’s The Treatment And The Embarrassing Moment The treatment is called viscosupplemtation. If you have not heard of this treatment - I will explain how it might help you in just a moment. If you have heard of it - or even had this treatment without good results - this information is a “must read.”
Advanced Knee Arthritis Treatment Offers New Hope For Pain Sufferers In New York City
Nothing Spreads The Word Like Caring Doctors and Results - Knee arthritis sufferers have swarmed the OsteoRelief Center in Manhattan, NYC and Norhtern New j Jersey ever since word got out of their advanced medical procedure for knee arthritis
This all sounds great - in theory. But there is a BIG problem with this treatment. Allow Me To Explain... While doing research on this treatment, I traveled to a medical clinic in Northern N.J. right outside NYC (they now have clinics in mid town and downtown).. This clinic had an excellent reputation and I got to speak not only with doctors but with several patients who ranted and raved about the results. Many said they had tried countless other treatments Here is why: When you in the past... including have arthritis, one of the things viscosupplementation... but that happens is the lubricating nothing worked until they had fluid in your joints deceases. viscosupplemtation at this This causes joint surfaces to clinic. rub, then grind against each I was skeptical, so I asked other which causes swelling one of the doctors why. PRECISE. In other words, the doctor must be very accurate and actually get the lubricating fluid precisely into the arthritic joint space or the treatment will be rendered useless. Many doctors do not want to admit it - but it is very easy to miss the joint space and alter the treatment results. In fact, research shows that doctors doing these types of joint procedures without advanced imaging may miss the joint space as much as 30% of the time.
Technology To The Rescue Thankfully technology is solving this problem. How? It’s making doctors much more accurate and this treatment much more effective. Advanced imaging is now available that allows doctors to actually see directly into the joint space and watch the treatment. Doctors can see, or check, if the lubricating fluid goes directly into the joint space - or misses. The doctor knows if the applied treatment has been a success... or failure... INSTANTLY.
The Difference Between Knee Arthritis Treatment? Should Know... That Might Be Keeping You In Pain Here’s something incredible: I was able to watch many procedures actually being performed and I was shocked at how many times the doctor thought he had perfect placement... but the imaging proved him wrong.

I was amazed how only a fraction of an inch would make the difference between success and failure.
It became clear to me that using this advanced imaging and “double confirmation” process just might be why the doctors at this medical clinic The best thing is: When get results when others were the procedure was not perfect not. - because of the imaging - the What Results Can Be doctor knew instantly and was Expected? able to make the slight change necessary and achieve the results Like all medical treatments, they were looking for hitting the the results vary and can not targeted painful knee joint. be predicted. Barry Sloane is making the rounds at ABC. After a stint on “Revenge” as Aiden Mathis, lover of lead Emily Thorne (or Amanda Clarke, depending on the day), he’s moving on to “The Whispers,” the network’s anxiety-inducing new drama about children influenced to commit
horrible acts by a possibly imaginary new friend. Steven Spielberg is executive producing, and Sloane plays Wes Lawrence, a federal agent trying to untangle the mystery. What made you decide to move on from “Revenge” to this show? It was an easy one. I’d already made up my mind that I wasn’t going to stay with “Revenge” midway through the third season, so I was kind of off in a way. And then when I started looking at various scripts, as you do, this one — as soon as I saw it, I was attracted to it. And then I knew the cast that they were putting together for this; it was a no-brainer, really. It became very, very simple, and Spielberg

The Spielberg touch What kind of imprint did Spielberg leave on the project? I think just visually, you’ll see it in the pilot, but [also] as it goes on. There’s like a ’70s and ’80s feel to it, which I really loved. Some of it reminded me of being a child. Some of it took me back a little bit, just an innocence to it that I hadn’t seen in a lot of involved? It was like, ‘OK, when do I turn up? What do you want me to do?’ Was it appealing to be playing a father? There’s roles for certain parts in your life that come along at the right time. There was no gratuity about this; there’s creepy elements, there’s things that might make you think, but in the same way that “Blair Witch Project did. Not to that extreme, but in the fact that, “Did I just see that? Did I hear that? What did he say, what did she say? We leave a lot to the imagination, and in doing that, we kind of leave it up to what scares you, or what scares someone else. And that, to me, is the more terrifying thing.
There’s a lot asked of the kids on this show. Did working with them go smoothly? Every child that they employed on this show — wonderful work. It should be no surprise that Spielberg casts children well. There’s such a soul and a heart to these children. They just get it perfect.
to 5 [years old] right now, so when this came about, everything was there for me. The idea of working closely with a child for some actors would be jarring because if you don’t have that relationship instantly with a kid, they can shut down their doors. We were very fortunate
Has your daughter met your screen daughter? We used to hang out outside work. What’s quite funny is Kylie Rogers, who played my daughter, her last onscreen father was Russell Crowe, so I had a lot to stand up to. Did she pass on anything about Crowe? He swore a lot. [Laughs] LISA WEIDENFELD @LisaWeidenfeld lisa.weidenfeld@metro.us

HOW TO GET AHEAD
Why more women need to study science and engineering Meera Kaul is on a mission to get women into the male-dominated STEM fields. MOLLY CONGDON @metronewyork letters@metro.us
The emphasis on STEM — an acronym for science, technology, engineering and math — is only growing. The skills and knowledge these fields require have become increasingly intertwined with daily life and future success. Which is why, according to Meera Kaul, more women need to enter
these areas. “Everything around you is moving towards technology, science and engineering,” says Kaul, a serial entrepreneur and angel investor who has incubated, financed and promoted technology-enabled ventures throughout the world. “If women do not take a strong lead in being technical themselves, we will lose out on a lot of opportunity in the world going forward.” That’s why Kaul has launched The Meera Kaul Foundation, a nonprofit that helps empower women across the globe and encourages them to enter into STEM fields. By investing in women and

“I don’t think there is a bigger barrier to entry than what is in our minds,” Kaul says, citing many women’s insecurities about entering science and math fields. “Society has been gender stereotyping for centuries, and that has led us to believe that there are some jobs that are made for women and there are some jobs that are not made for women,” she
continues. “That’s highly untrue because there is nothing that will stop ourselves from being very successful at engineering fields. If they are able to overcome this barrier, I don’t think there is another barrier to overcome.”
Confidence matters “The basic problem for women everywhere is economic marginalization,” Kaul says. “I believe that women have to have confidence in themselves, need to be able to negotiate better and need to step forward and be equal partners in the world economy; a woman educated in STEM has a better chance

So, you’ve finished the school year. Hooray! But, guess what, your work is far from over — especially if you’ve gone ahead and landed yourself a summer internship. That’s because an internship isn’t merely a job or a resume-builder. It’s a time to discover what you really want to do with your life, make connections that can help you after graduation and serve as an audition for a full-time job. Heavy stuff! So, we asked Joan Kuhl, founder of Why Millennials Matter, how to make the most out of your internship. Follow her tips, and you could be getting a job offer (or at least some killer references) by season’s end.

First impressions are key. “People are making judgements about you based on how you look and talk in the first six to seven seconds,” says Kuhl. But you can help control your initial impact by coming up with a killer intro. “Don’t just say your name, say how you’re so excited to be working there, tie it into your major and your passion,” she advises. And, because even the most poised of us can stumble sometimes, prepare and practice your two-sentence intro ahead of time so you’ll be sure to deliver when push comes to shove.
Make yourself known The most successful interns don’t just do what’s asked of them. They make noise. “Sometimes you have students who work so hard, but they put their head down and do the work and that’s all,” says Kuhl. Ask lots of questions, offer to take on extra responsibilities and put yourself in front of different managers in different departments (you never know who will be hiring). “It’s about having a voice and building a brand,
Bust their age biases Some people you will come across at your internship will have preconceived notions about millennials. The trick is to anticipate these biases and act the opposite way. “Some stereotypes of millennials are that they’re lazy, they don’t want to roll up their sleeves, they feel entitled to a promotion even if they didn’t put in the hard work,” says Kuhl. “Always be on time, professional and appropriate. Show that you have a high regard for work and are a great ambassador for the company.”

How to play Fill in the grid so that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1-9. There is no math involved. You solve the puzzle with reasoning and logic.
Blogger should get her facts straight Re: ‘Ms. Marvel should get her own TV show’ (Metro, May 28) I was just wondering if it’s too much to ask for blogger Jenna Busch to do just a little research before writing an article. She claims that the new “Assassins Creed Unity” is the first time you play as a female in the franchise. That is wrong: There are two other games that star only a female protagonist, “Assassins Creed Chronicles China” and “Liberation.” Also, how can the franchise be sexist when the lead programmer of the original game Jade Raymond is female? She also states
that Ms. Marvel should get her own movie and not be thrown in with a male group. She is getting her own movie in 2018 and that is exactly why she wasn’t in “The Avengers.” Also, the new Supergirl on TV is not blonde, she has brown hair. I could also go on about how according to her, it’s sexist for Black Widow to not have her own toy, which is not the case. She’s just not as popular, so Marvel doesn’t put out a lot of her figures because of fear of lack of sales. They did the same for Hawkeye; does that mean they’re anti-archers? It’s not just insulting to people who work on these projects, but also the readers, to make such bold, baseless claims. A little research never hurt anyone. JUNE ARROYO, VIA EMAIL

The NHL’s ratings dream of a 2015 Stanley Cup Final between the Rangers and Blackhawks didn’t materialize as New York fell, 2-0, in Game 7 Friday to Tampa Bay. Chicago’s 5-3 victory at Anaheim on Saturday in another Game 7 sets up what, at least on paper, appears to be an intriguing Stanley Cup Final: Blackhawks vs. Lightning, an 8 p.m. start on NBC this Wednesday. Chicago will be appearing in its third Final in the last six seasons (2010, 2013) which has only been
done by three teams in the past 25 years: Detroit (twice) and New Jersey. If the Blackhawks capture another Cup and go to 3-0 in the Cup Final in this remarkable run, it will be fair to start talking about them as one of the all-time great clubs since nobody is this consistent anymore in the pro sport that has — by far — the most parity. Meanwhile, it is not a fluke that Tampa Bay has reached its second Final in the franchise’s 23 years of existence (they won the 2004 Cup). They rallied from down 3-1 against. Detroit in the first round, then knocked off what were generally regarded as the top two teams in the East — Montreal and New York — in consecutive series.’ Chicago’s top players like Jonathan Toews (9
goals, 9 assists), Patrick Kane (10 goals, 10 assists) and Duncan Keith (18 points, plus-13) really don’t need an introduction. But for the casual fan, this series could be where they realize just how good Lightning captain Steven Stamkos (7 goals, 10 assists) and breakout star Tyler Johnson (12 goals, 9 assists) are. Good news comes in the fact that both of these teams play wide-open, exciting styles that emphasize offense (what a concept!). That means that Chicago goaltender Corey Crawford and Tampa Bay goaltender Ben Bishop figure to be facing a barrage of shots. RICH SLATE @RichSlate sports@metro.us

Rangers with big decisions According to industry website CapFriendly.com, the Rangers have 15 players signed to $59.5 million worth of contracts. Should the cap ceiling be set at $71 million, as has been speculated, the Rangers would have $11.5 million in available cap space. At least $6 million
would be earmarked for Derek Stepan, the top line center who is a restricted free agent. Top six forward J.T. Miller and bottom six forward Jesper Fast are on entry-level deals, so look for general manager Glen Sather to offer both bridge deals. Third line wing Carl Hagelin is a restricted free agent. Martin St. Louis,
James Sheppard and Matt Hunwick are all unrestricted free agents. Then there is backup goaltender Cam Talbot, who essentially saved the Rangers’ season after Henrik Lundqvist missed six weeks. Talbot will make $1.45 million next year and may attract attention from NHL teams who need a young, costcontrolled No. 1 goaltender. DENIS GORMAN

Rangers’ offense fell flat NHL. New York just couldn’t put the puck in the net when it mattered most. It was a little after 11:15 p.m. last Friday, roughly a half hour after the 2014-15 New York Rangers’ season came to an end with a 2-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals, when Alain Vigneault was asked to examine the Presidents’ Trophy winner’s needs for the future. The wound was too fresh, the pain all too real for the coach to execute a thorough postmortem. “I’m not going to get into that,” Vigneault said. “We [were] one period away from going to the Stanley Cup Final. Our guys competed real hard, battled hard and this is really disappointing to us, to our fans, so we’re going to take a little bit of time
to contemplate our next season.” Vigneault and Rangers brass will ponder a campaign in which they set franchise highs for wins and points while ranking third in the NHL in goals per game with an average of 3.02. But the highoctane offense dried up in the playoffs. The Rangers finished the playoffs ranked seventh in the NHL with a 2.37 goals per game average. A deeper examination reveals that the Rangers scored 24 goals in the 12 games against Pittsburgh and Washington in the first two rounds. In the Conference finals, the Rangers scored 21 goals, but only four in the four games at the Garden. “I think everyone’s puzzled. We’re not very sure what happened,” Derek Stepan said. “Just the way it went. We just weren’t able to generate any offense [in Game 7].” DENIS GORMAN @DenisGorman sports@metro.us
