From Philly Pride to international stardom Vogue. Philadelphia native Kemar Jewel has made a global name for himself in a fierce and competitive scene. As Philly Pride weekend kicked off Friday, international dance star Kemar Jewel shone in his hometown. Jewel, who made his name at Philly Pride events, took the stage in front of a packed audience Friday night at Philadelphia’s African American Museum. “I do this for our legendary ancestors who aren’t able to see the legacy they have left before us,” Jewel declared before performing. The event was a Pride weekend kickoff for LGBT of color that paid homage at the opening ceremony of “Legendary: Inside the Ballroom Scene,” an exhibition showcasing the work of Philadelphia-based Gerard Gaskin, a renowned photographer whose book documented the scene. The ballroom scene is an underground LGBT subculture that has long set the standard for defying gender and social class norms within the gay community. It originated during the early 1960s as a response to the discrimination crossdressers faced when they

wanted to participate in national pageants. In 2010, Jewel, then 19, participated in his first Philly Pride and was a crowd favorite — chosen as the Youth Grand Marshal for the parade by The Attic Youth Center, Philadelphia’s youth center that exclusively serves LGBTQ youth. “Pride has always been

like a holiday to me,” he said. “It’s that special time of year when I can perform, network and enjoy all of the gayness that the city has to offer.” Shortly after his debut at Philly Pride, he became a staffer at the Attic where he would continue to showcase his love for performance and ballroom culture as a dance teacher.

But in 2013, he decided to perform outside of the Attic Youth orbit and went his own creative route as a “sex slave” in a performance based on the Rihanna song “S&M.” It was then that he discovered his inner love for drag — the act of cross-dressing for a performance. “That was the first time that I felt that the Phila-

Mix-up. No charges for parents who left tot in Camden water park Police have located the parents of a 3-year-old girl found alone on Saturday inside a water park and said no criminal charges will be filed. The child was accidentally left behind at Clementon Park and Splash World after a family outing, officials said. “They [the parents] indicated they had thought the girl was stay-

ing at her grandmother’s home,” Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Clementon Police Chief Randall Freiling said in statement. “Detectives interviewed the girl’s grandmother. It was learned the girl was at the park with a group of approximately 24 people, including children and

other adults. When the group exited the park, the grandmother thought the girl had left in another car.” The parents of the child contacted police around 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The girl’s “well-being” will be evaluated by social services workers before she is returned to her parents, authorities said. SAM NEWHOUSE

delphia performance community was finally taking me seriously,” Jewel said. “I loved doing drag and doing performances as a woman.” Last year, the rest of the world was introduced to Jewel after a video he uploaded on YouTube of himself and fellow dance partners’ voguing — a highly stylized, modern house dance — at various SEPTA stations across the city went viral. “Voguing Train” received over 80,000 views and was featured on the Huffington Post, NPR, MSNBC and many others. A follow-up video called “The Runway Museum” attracted a following that would be more international than he ever expected — famed gay club hit-maker Bob Sinclar offered him a slot as a performer in his summer European tour in Paris. As a result of his growing persona outside of Philadelphia, Jewel made the tough decision to leave his post as dance teacher at the Attic Youth Center — but not without a “showstopping final act.” “I want to give them one last gift by choreographing their Pride performance with the theme of the TV show ‘Empire,’” he said. “Hopefully, this performance will win an award again so I can leave the Attic with a smile on my face.” ERNEST OWENS @METROPHILLY letters@metro.us

Community cleans up after main break floods West Philly block Lagoon. A water main burst early Sunday, submerging 52nd Street. A 130-year-old, 36-inchdiamater water pipe burst under 52nd Street in West Philly early Sunday morning flooding nearby blocks for hours. The break occurred at 4:30 a.m. off 52nd Street and Wyalusing Avenue and was sealed by 8 a.m., according to the Philadelphia Water Department. But hours later, the city was still cleaning up as neighbors were waiting to see whether their cars still ran and how much damage they had to deal with.

“It was a lake,â€? said Shawn Gordon, 40, a Wyalusing Avenue resident. He said he discovered the flooding around 8 a.m. when he woke up to walk his dog and opened his door, only to find the water up his front steps to his door. Allen Canty, 38, was one of many Wyalusing Avenue residents with their car hoods open, waiting for the engine to dry so he could test to see if it worked after being submerged in water. Without the car, he doesn’t know how he’ll get to his job as a truck driver in Chester. Canty said the water also reached his basement steps and poured inside, ruining everything. He said city officials assured him they would help with reimbursements for damages to his

City workers will be returning in the coming days to pump basements and assess any mold damages. Harry James, 71, a resident at the Westminster Senior Apartments on 52nd Street, said a friend woke him up at 6:30 a.m. “He said, ‘The street is flooding.’ I came out and it was up to here,â€? Lots of sights, styles and love at Philly Pride Day 2015. Paradegoers celebrated all things LGBT with political notables stopping by to voice their support.

That sea of rainbow flags heading from Center City to Penn’s Landing could only have meant one thing: Philly Pride Day. The 27th Pride Parade began Sunday in the heart of the Gayborhood at 13th and Locust streets before wending its way to Penn’s Landing. This year’s Pride

Celebration also marked the 50th anniversary of the first-ever Annual Reminders protest — which began in 1965 in front of Independence Hall with 40 protesters demanding equal rights for gays and lesbians. Democratic mayoral nominee Jim Kenney and Gov. Tom Wolf both

spoke to crowds at Penn’s Landing to express their support for LGBT rights. The 2014 Philly Pride Parade, which came just weeks after a federal judge invalidated a state law banning gay marriage, was notable for 13 couples getting wed in a mass ceremony. SAM NEWHOUSE

Let’s face it, Flag Day does not get the respect it deserves, and this weekend was no exception. Maybe that’s because the two major parties are so busy waving their own banners. In any event, expect some hot and heavy political winds to whip the pennants of the 2016 race this week.

2. CAPTURE THE FLAG: On the Republican side, Jeb Bush will finally dash from the grasslands and try to grab the flag down in Alligator Alley. His long-awaited announcement that he is running for the Oval Office will come in his home state of Florida, which is convenient in several ways. It’s an easy drive; the location will be a tip of the hat to all those who liked him as governor there; and it will be a direct challenge to his pal, Marco Rubio, who is courting the same crowd for the GOP nomination. Love and war, kids, love and war.

1. BATTLE FLAG: Hillary Clinton, wounded by wilting poll numbers, is calling for a charge after yet another announcement of her candidacy. Operatives hope her rally in dark blue New York City pays off with more voters seeing her in personal — not merely political terms since she is making her mom a centerpiece. (Yeah, it’s not exactly that easy … but I get their idea.) Meanwhile, you can count on pundits to be looking for signs of fraying in husband Bill’s interview with Jake Tapper on CNN’s “State of the Union.” The simple truth: As long as Camp Clinton is under siege over foundations, finances and emails, getting the troops in line will prove difficult.

3. WHITE FLAG: And the White House, while not ready to surrender, certainly will have to regroup after Congressional Democrats walloped President Obama late last week over his Pacific trade deal. If this pillar of the president’s legacy can’t be resurrected and defended, watch other politicos hoist the “Lame Duck” banner high over Pennsylvania Avenue.

Gunshot wounds four at Waldorf Astoria wedding in New York City A gun accidentally discharged during a wedding at New York’s famed Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Saturday, wounding four people, a police source

said. The bullet hit the oor and those wounded were hit by fragments from the round or debris from the strike, the source said. The incident at the hotel in Midtown Manhattan took place at about 7:30 p.m. and is believed to have been an accident. The wounded were taken to hospitals and the injuries were

not life-threatening, the source said. The New York Post reported that the gun belonged to a wedding guest. It went o in the lobby of the hotel, run by Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc., as guests were taking photos. Vladimir Gotlibovsky, of Brooklyn, was taken to a police station in handcus. His right trouser leg

had a hole with burned edges as if the cloth had been blasted from inside by a ďŹ rearm, the newspaper said. Security for the Waldorf Astoria hotel canceled the wedding shortly after the shooting incident. A spokesman for the hotel did not immediately respond to a request for comment. REUTERS

Search for NY prisoners expands east Birthday. Sunday marked the 35th birthday of David Sweat, the younger of the two convicted killers. As the hunt for a pair of inmates who escaped from an upstate New York prison entered its ninth day on Sunday, new details emerged about how a female prison worker now under arrest promised to help them in a daring breakout. David Sweat and Richard Matt, 48, were discovered missing from their adjoining cells in the maximum security prison, located about 20 miles south of the Canadian border, at 5:30 a.m. on June 6. Joyce Mitchell, 51, who worked as an industrial training supervisor at the prison’s tailor shop, was due back in court in Plattsburgh on Monday on charges of promoting prison contraband and criminal facilitation. Mitchell was accused of providing chisels and hacksaw blades to the men, who were both serving time for murder, authorities said. She smuggled the tools to them about five weeks before the escape, accord-

ing to several media outlets, after an initial report in the Albany Times Union, citing unnamed investigators. Mitchell, who had agreed to drive the getaway car, had planned to meet the men at a power plant near the prison, ABC News reported Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie as saying. But she had second thoughts and never showed up, checking herself into a hospital for a panic attack instead. She was told she would need a four-wheel drive vehicle to transport them to an undisclosed wooded area, ABC News said, citing Wylie. Wylie did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Times Union, citing an unnamed investigator, said Mitchell had agreed to drive them to a cabin in Vermont. Mitchell has pleaded not guilty to the charges. If convicted, she faces up to eight years in prison. She was transferred on Saturday to a county jail about 165 miles away from the state prison where she worked to reduce tensions in the facility. Many residents of the surrounding village either work at the prison or have family employed there. REUTERS

US plans to store heavy arms in Baltic, Eastern Europe: Source

The United States plans to store heavy military equipment in the Baltics and Eastern European nations to reassure allies made uneasy by Russian intervention in Ukraine, and to deter further aggression, a senior U.S. official said. “We will pre-position significant equipment,” the official said, commenting on a New York Times report that the Pentagon was poised to store battle tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and other heavy weapons for as many as 5,000 troops. Poland and Lithuania both confirmed they were in talks with Washington on stationing

heavy arms in warehouses in the region. “The threats to the Baltic region have increased. This has been discussed many times and I view positively (the fact) that talks lead to concrete decisions which, I think, will become a reality,” Lithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius told Reuters. Poland’s defense minister said he expected a decision soon. “During talks in Washington in May I have been assured that the decision will be taken soon,” said a ministry tweet, quoting Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak. “This is another step to increase U.S. presence in Poland and the region.” REUTERS

Germany says it’s grappling with hacker threat

Germany’s defense minister warned of the growing threat of cyberattacks as a newspaper reported that malware had been found on the parliamentary-office computer of Chancellor Angela Merkel. The report came a few weeks after it emerged that hackers had attacked the Bundestag’s (lower house of parliament) computer system. Speaking to newspaper Welt am Sonntag, Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen said cyberattacks were one of the biggest challenges for international security, citing the “enormous damage” they can cause to the economy. Islamic State turns to widescreen TV propaganda in Iraq

Islamic State militants have set up giant television screens in the Iraqi city of Ramadi and are using them to proclaim that they will seize more Iraqi territory after capturing the provincial capital last month, residents said. Efforts by the Shi’ite Muslim-led government and its American allies to break the hardline group’s control of about a third of Iraq are currently focused on Ramadi, in Sunni Muslim heartland Anbar province. A robotic space lander has surprised scientists by waking up and sending a signal to Earth, seven months after straying into the shadows of a comet. The European Space Agency said that it had received signals from the lander, when it began “speaking” with its team on the ground for the first time since it went into emergency hibernation following a botched landing on the comet in November. Scientists believe the probe is receiving increasing amounts of sunlight as the comet speeds closer to the sun, enabling its solar panels to produce the power needed for it to send data. REUTERS

New York Post critic Kyle Smith dropped his contribution to the 25th anniversary celebration of “Goodfellas,” Martin Scorsese’s beloved, jaunty portrayal of mob life. But Smith took a, shall we say, unique angle. “Women are not capable of understanding ‘Goodfellas,’” went the hed, and he went on to “mansplain” that the movie is a sloppy valentine to ball-busting male camaraderie — albeit neglecting to mention that the bros of “Goodfellas” only wind up betraying and killing each other in the end. The Internet has been aflame since, with angry commentators pointing out the numerous women who — miraculously, despite not possessing a Y-chromosome and everything — are perfectly capable of enjoying “Goodfellas” along with the men, and not even in a retrograde fashion in between shopping and cooking dinner for their husbands.

As it happened, we were scheduled to discuss “Goodfellas” with Nicholas Pileggi, the crime reporter who wrote “Wiseguy,” the book on which it’s based, and who co-wrote the screenplay with Scorsese, in advance of the film’s revival at New York City’s Film Forum. Naturally, everyone he knew had forwarded him the column. “I was very flattered,” Pileggi told us, though he adds, “I don’t know what the validity of it is. A lot of women like the movie. The women I know, from my wife on down, got a kick out of it.” He’s referring to the late Nora Ephron, who not only enjoyed it, but became involved herself in her husband’s crime reporting. “All our conversations were about Henry,” Pileggi recalls. “She’d call and interview Henry. He’s talking to me in the morning, he’s talking to her at night. He does admit it’s a good angle. “To say “Good-

fellas” is a guy’s movie — it’s funny. He’s a good writer, so it’s a lark and advantageous to the movie,” he adds. “But it’s like those jokey lines: ‘There are no women comedians, feminism has no comedians, ha ha.’ I mean, just look at the list.” In fact, Pileggi understands taking an unusual angle, and not even in today’s Internet- and outrage-fueled culture. “I’ve been in the business since ’56. There’s nothing that goes on in this business I haven’t done myself, probably,” he says. “You need a hook. I think it’s a pretty good hook. People are going to call you and be pissed off, which is good. That’s interaction.” MATT PRIGGE, METRO

Uncle Jesse got popped for DUI John Stamos certainly had a wild weekend. The “Full House” star was arrested and charged with DUI in Beverly Hills after police stopped him for erratic driving. Stamos was first taken to CedarsSinai Medical Center “due to a possible medical condition,” where he was formally arrested and given the citation. Photos from the arrest show a bleary-eyed Stamos popping a squat on the curb before police decided to head to the hospital. There’s no word on what that medical condition might be, but he’s due in court in September. Stamos tweeted out, “Thanks to everyone for their love and support. I’m home and well,” but there are so many unanswered questions here, not least of which is what, no super-handsome mug shot?

College Humor continues to address life’s biggest and most important questions, this time tackling a real conundrum in “Which is Nerdier: ‘Star

while Picard strikes back with, “‘Star Wars’ is like philosophy for children.” And you know the Patrick Stewart impression is pretty spot-on. The video doesn’t state conclusively one way or the other, but I think we all know the answer: “Star Trek” is way nerdier.

Kylie Jenner looking to get hitched for 18th birthday How do you celebrate finally becoming a fullfledged adult? If you’re Kylie Jenner, you do it by marrying your 25-yearold rapper boyfriend, Tyga, if this Radar Online report is to be believed. “Right now their plan is to get hitched in August,” a source says. (August, by the way, is when Jenner turns 18.) “They are making plans to quit L.A. for a brand-new life away from her family and his baby mama, Blac Chyna. Kylie is done with the constant criticism and micromanagement from her family, especially Kim, and she’s dead set on going her own way as soon as possible.” Sounds good. Where are they registered?

Beyonce laughing off another lawsuit I guess some people just wake up thinking, “You know who I’m going to sue? Beyonce.” This time it’s a former background singer who claims Mrs. Z stole the track “XO” from him. The nerve. Last year, Ahmad Lane filed a federal lawsuit suggesting that a mutual colleague passed his demo for a song called “XOXO” on to Beyonce. Last week, Beyonce fired back with a response via her lawyers, calling

4 Lane’s suit “vague and cryptic” and explaining that “the two works at issue are entirely different songs that share no lyrical or musical similarity, other than perhaps the letters ‘X’ and ‘O.’” Oh, and in case it needed pointing out, Beyonce reminded everyone she doesn’t need to steal anyone’s tracks because she has “17 Grammy awards and 118 million records sold.” So there.

Interview. The “Jurassic World” star outruns a T. rex while looking fabulous. Actors pick up all sorts of new skills when working on big movies, but one area of expertise Bryce Dallas Howard never expected to master on the job is ankle health. But when your character spends the entire movie in a set of rather nicelooking high heels, and you’re being chased by killer dinosaurs, these things become important. What are your memories from seeing the first film from 1993? I mean, everything. [Laughs] It’s one of those experiences where I was so impressionable, and it was just such a vivid experience. I left remembering every single second of it. It was just a crazy-good movie. That film is genius. So yeah, I remember everything. I was making jokes with

get injured. At this point, I know so much about the fitness of ankles. [Laughs] It’s completely disproportionate with overall fitness, which is really funny because I remember, about halfway through, I thought to myself, “Man, my ankles are so strong. Should I be working out other parts

of my body for a major motion picture? Hmm.” It’s all about the ankles. I loved that we kind of landed in this place where it was right for the character to have her heels on the whole time. How do you pick up ankle-specific exercises? I was really lucky

So when your workday involves riding an ATV with your arms wrapped around Chris Pratt, how much does that suck? It does not suck at all. That day was funny because we had a very short period of

because my driver turned out to be a UFC winner, this guy Pete Williams — just an incredible athlete. And he was the one who actually taught me all these balance and ankle exercises, because in mixed martial arts, you have to really take care of your feet and you have to be able to balance. So he taught me so much stuff. I was lucky that I got to work with him. I’ve heard it’s one of the most important things, to take care of your balance as you get older. So I got a lot of good tips.

time to shoot that — like every other day — and I remember I needed to hop on the back of the four-wheeler and we took o through a crowd of people and went peeling down a road and did a sharp turn. At the end of it, I went to Chris, and I said, “Chris, I feel so safe. Thank you so much.â€? And he was like, “Well, you shouldn’t.â€? [Laughs] There was a lot of stunt driving that he had to do.

Your character gets a great arc to play over this, which sadly isn’t too common for big movies. One of the things Colin [Trevorrow, director] always said on set was that this movie has to work without the dinosaurs, and that was something that was always top of mind. I met him in March of 2013 over Skype. He told me so much of the story — I couldn’t even believe it when it was happening,

like I’m not even cast in this movie yet, and he’s telling me so much of it, I can’t believe he trusts me. And then a month later he called me and said, “I’m at the top of a mountain in Hawaii; I was thinking about you. We’ve all talked about you, Bryce, and when we Skyped together, you felt like family. We’d like to invite you into the ‘Jurassic World’ family. I mean, I said yes on the spot. But there was no script until September. He described this character to me who really goes on this journey. At first, she’s incredibly unlikable and by the end of the film, she’s heroic, and I just kept questioning whether that was even possible. “Isn’t this an action movie? Do you even have the screen time for that? Nice work if you can get it, I’d say. And then! And then Chris Pratt gets cast. Could it get any better?

Mika bares it all

Interview. After a period of sadness and isolation, Mika emerges with a powerful, intimate new album, getting more honest than ever. Mika may have churned out bubblegum hits like “Love Today and “Popular Song in the past, but his new album, “No Place in Heaven, (out tomorrow) is melodious while exploring deeper, darker issues. Mika opens up to us about emerging from complete isolation to share the personal issues that matter the most to him.

‘I became afraid of what people think.’ It’s been three years since Mika’s last album, “The Origin of Love, and he says for most of that time, he purposely disappeared. “I became afraid of what people would think of my work. ... I realize now that as soon as you become

Why volunteering is good for business Giving back can also land you a promotion. Here’s how to feel good and get ahead. RAQUEL LANERI @RaquelLaneri raquel.laneri@metro.us

Find a way to turn your passion into a volunteering opportunity. ISTOCK

Studies have shown: Giving makes you happy. Whether it’s buying a present for your mother, donating money to a charity or volunteering at a Boys & Girls Club, we feel good when we help others. That thinking also extends to the workplace, says Carrie Morgridge, vice president of the Morgridge Family Foundation

and author of “Every Gift Matters: How Your Passion Can Change the World.” Indeed, a study by Deloitte Consulting found that 87 percent of workers who volunteered with a group at work felt that it improved their teamwork and people skills while 81 percent said that it helped develop stronger relationships with their colleagues. “Volunteering brings a team together,” says Morgridge. “It increases productivity and allows co-workers to bond over a common goal that’s not necessarily work-related.” It makes sense: Teams that volunteer together collaborate better. But it also can affect attitudes. “The first thing that volunteering is about is simple kindness,” says Morgridge. “Sometimes we get mean or aggressive at work — we’re all human. But being mindful of kindness and respect is one of the first things that comes out of volunteering.” Not sure how to convince your co-workers to volunteer together? Morgridge offers these tips to finding the best charitable activities for your particular team.

Find what brings you joy Let’s be honest: Not all of us are equipped to help build a house with our bare hands or wrangle

Where to volunteer

of team-building activities for groups who want to volunteer together.

Morgridge recommends these nonprofits for giving back and strengthening team bonds.

Habitat for Humanity: The popular organization allows volunteers to build homes for families in need around the globe.

Wish for Wheels: This nonprofit provides bikes and helmets for elementary school kids. Volunteers pitch in to build a bike, and the organization offers all sorts

a bunch of hyperactive children. “Identify your passion first,” says Morgridge. “Ask yourself what you like, where you like to give, where you have given in the past and the best gift you’ve ever given. By answering these questions, you can find what project will give you the most fulfillment.” Once you find a cause, you’ll feel much better about asking your friends, or colleagues, to join you.

Get your team involved Apply those same introspective questions to your co-workers. Ask them where their passions lie and brainstorm what a volunteer project for the team would look like. “I recommend something that’s active — like building bikes or preparing meals together,” says

Second Harvest: One of the largest food banks in the U.S. relies on volunteers to sort, package and deliver food.

Morgridge. Can’t decide on one activity? Pick a “volunteer day” and come up with a few options that your colleagues can choose from.

Make it official Don’t be shy to go up to your boss and suggest a volunteer day. “It’s one of the top things bosses love — taking initiative,” says Morgridge. “Say, ‘I have this idea. I did the research, and I’d love to plan an event.’” Just make sure it’s something you really want to do — and not a way to climb the corporate ladder, she advises. If your company already has a giving program, but it’s not where you love to volunteer, there’s nothing wrong with creating something new, Morgridge adds. “Why just have one program?”

Pro tip: Don’t eat garlic bread before a networking event! ISTOCK

Network like a pro Going to an event where you’ll be meeting tons of professionals in your field? Read this first. Talentegg.com is a job board and online career resource for college students and recent graduates.

Attending networking events can be intimidating, even if you are a seasoned pro. You have etiquette to worry about, files you might misplace and names to remember. But no worries: We’ve put together some handy networking hacks to help your big day of connections go a little more smoothly.

Take photos of business cards Sometimes it’s hard to keep track of the piles of business cards you receive from different networking events. They end up in the bottom of your bag, in the back of your cellphone case or in your pockets (then through the wash). Instead, take photos of all the business cards you receive and create an album on your mobile device.

Make a statement with your outfit Sometimes when you’re at a networking event, it can be difficult to keep track of the people

you meet. This also goes for your contacts — and as important as it is for you to remember them, it’s equally important that they remember you. Wearing something identifiable (but still professional) can help, such as a brightly colored blouse or polka dot bow tie.

Wear comfy shoes Your shoes are arguably the most important part of your wardrobe when it comes to professional business events. It’s hard to look good and be comfortable, but the last thing you need is for your feet to be so sore that you’re stuck sitting down. Make sure your shoes are comfy and broken-in — save those new heels for another day! Consider buying insoles for your shoes and pack BandAids just in case.

Carry a pen and paper Always carry some sort of writing utensil and paper or notebook, just in case. Even though we live in a world of tablets and cellphones, they aren’t always as dependable. Having a pen will also allow you to make notes on the business cards you receive to help you remember each person.

Pre-network Still not feeling confident? Check out the Facebook group or online event page to see who else will be attending. Try looking them up on LinkedIn and connecting with them prior to the event. Having a short conversation with people beforehand can make you feel more confident at the event.

Make a target list

Save yourself from an embarrassing moment Nobody wants to be stuck with a stained shirt, messy hair or fur or lint all over black pants — preach, pet owners! Pack a portable stain remover, lint roller, hairbrush or anything else that you feel may come in handy. If you have long hair, packing extra clips can be useful.

Often, networking events have hundreds of attendees, which can be overwhelming. You’re never going to meet everyone who is attending, but having a list of the people you really would like to meet and chat with can be helpful. Again, take a look at who is attending, what they do and why it is beneficial for you to connect with them. Having a hard time spotting them at the event? Find them on Twitter, and let them know a place you can meet up.

How to play Fill in the grid so that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1-9. There is no math involved. You solve the puzzle with reasoning and logic.

We get what they pay for Re: ‘Crybabies on campus’ (Metro, June 11) The author was absolutely right speaking out against “political correctness” which shuts down conversation on important topics that need to be discussed. If you go ahead and speak, you will be called “insensitive” and liberals will call it a “rant” and they will not want you on their faculty. Would it be politically incorrect if I asked why Harvard has some of the highest tuition rates in the country while at the same time it has an endowment of over $32 billion? Is it just so these often-tenured liberal professors can get big salaries for poisoning the minds of their students with their liberal garbage? GEORGE CHRISTIAN JR.

Clinton should put her money where her mouth is Hillary Clinton is now calling for “shared American prosperity,” just like every thief in the world. As an 80-year-old senior citizen, will I get some of her millions of dollars so I can travel like the Clinton family, or will I have to give up my 1.7 percent cost-of-living Social Security increase (LOL) to someone who envys and hates me? Perhaps a phony couple on lifetime compensation. When I was young, my family gave to charities by choice. Now our government picks our pockets. ALAN JACOBS, VIA EMAIL

Asche, a quick study MLB. Cody Asche has made the transition to the outfield.

SPORTS

After the Phillies drafted Cornelius Randolph with the 10th overall pick of last week’s MLB draft, the organization announced that the high school shortstop will spend a few years in the minors to learn how to play the outfield. Last month, the Phillies sent another infielder to the minors to absorb the finer points of the outfield. The big difference was that Cody Asche had just two weeks to soak up how to track fly balls hit 300 feet off the bat. “It was quite an adjustment,” Asche said. Now that’s an understatement. The 24-year-old Asche had never played the outfield at any level prior to last month.

“I’ve always been an infielder,” Asche said. “That’s how it’s been since I’ve been a kid. But it doesn’t mean that I can’t make the adjustment to the outfield. I can play left.” Asche, who has played a decent left field for a guy just getting his feet wet, is correct. But it shouldn’t be surprising considering that Asche is athletic. One of the best lines from Charlie Manuel was uttered after he was asked in 2009 if Raul Ibanez could play a decent left field. “Well, Pat Burrell once played left, didn’t he?” If a player has the ability to run, has good instincts and owns a solid baseball mind like Asche, he should be

Therien dishes on the Flyers’ future NHL. Metro talks with Flyers analyst Chris Therien about a big oseason.

Hartnell but a younger and better version of Hartnell for sure. Will Vincent Lecavalier be on the team opening day? I think he will be here because they will have problems moving him again. They tried to move him last year and it didn’t happen. If he is here he is going to be asked to do whatever is needed like with [former coach Craig] Berube. He is not getting any younger, and from my point of view the fourth line is not a good fit for him. They need to find a way — if they can — to move him. I think that is the best play here.

With a maximum of two games remaining in the Stanley Cup Final, the NHL offseason is days away from kicking off. For the Flyers, they have a ton of questions heading into the summer. Metro caught up with former Flyers defenseman and current radio color analyst Chris Therien for his insight on what the team should do in the coming months. What are the team’s biggest needs? What their needs are and what they can get are obviously two different things. What they need is a No. 1 defenseman and another top-line left winger to join Claude Giroux and Jake Voracek. They need a left winger who can score and go to the front of the net. And whether it’s this year or in the future, they need to find a No. 1 defenseman — and I know they don’t fall off trees. If the team doesn’t add

someone, is Michael Ra the best ďŹ t on the top line? I like him a lot, and I think he is only going to get better. I don’t know if Ron Hextall agrees with me

or not, but I think Raffl is more of a second-line guy. For me, you need a guy who is going to get the puck out of the corner and get ugly in front of the net. A guy like [Scott]

Will any of the defensive prospects make the opening day roster? It’s hard to say. I am from the school: If a guy comes in and earns a spot in training camp, I am willing to give that guy a chance during the regular season. But if you make some moves and still have six-to-seven defensemen on one-way contracts, it’s probably going to be tough [for the prospects] to get a job immediately.
