Meet the Mipsterz, young Muslim artists Art. Through their concert series Sundays/cool, these artists are exploring the creative side of their heritage. It might be one of the most common names for Muslim women, but there was no Aisha to be found at a recent Mipsterz concert in a Crown Heights apartment. Singer Basim Usmani laughed that off, making a joke that it might be the only gig in Brooklyn where that wasn’t the case. A moment later, his punk rock band The Kominas launched into their song, aptly called “Aisha” without someone special to serenade. The band was headlining the last concert of the season for Sundays/cool, an intimate concert series hosted by the Mipsterz, a group of young Muslim artists who gather regularly to both collaborate and hang out. Those collaborations led to an onlyin-Brooklyn event that

found a cross-dressing punk band crowding onto a makeshift stage that transformed a normally quiet apartment into a secret club. “It was a little weird,” guitarist Sunny Ali admitted of rocking out in a bedroom before a serious-looking crowd who, following South Asian tradition, carefully removed their shoes

before entering. The audience then proceeded to clap and happily nod along to songs with titles like “Sharia Law in the U.S.A.” and “If You See Something, Say Something.” Since its founding two years ago, Mipsterz “has been this collective of people from Muslim backgrounds who don’t necessarily fit into other

A Mipsterz show over the weekend was the first time many fans heard The Kominas’ new song, “If You See Something, Say Something.” •

Based on the MTA’s ubiquitous post-9/11 ad campaign, the song was

one of the most political songs in the show. •

Band member Basim Usmani said the campaign really hit a nerve with the group. “It’s such a weird phrase, so paranoid,” Usmani

said. “We travel a lot, being a band, and it always feels weird that they are encouraging people just to report each other for suspicions. •

The Kominas are getting ready to release their next album, “Stereotype.”

spaces,” said Urooj Khan, one of the group’s founders. “They are creative, they are activists and they are progressive.” The group deliberately chose a portmanteau of the words “Muslim” and “Hipster” and that description certainly fit the invite-only crowd of 20- and 30-somethings that gathered for Saturday’s show. “In New York, you have these little niches,” said Farah Shaikh, an IT professional attending her first Mipsterz event. “People find a place to feel comfortable with their identities.” Co-founder Yusuf Siddiquee, 27, said that’s exactly what Mipsterz is going for. “We want to push forward that we are artists too,” said Siddiquee. “There are plenty of artists in our community, but cul-

tural or parental pressures sometimes make us cover it up.” The concert series is particularly special to Siddiquee because the acts literally perform in his bedroom. “I was a little concerned about putting a punk band in a bedroom,” he said. LAKSHMI GANDHI @LakshmiGandhi

Court. West Point cadet’s trial on child porn charges begins

West Point Academy / FILE PHOTO

A West Point cadet went on trial Tuesday on charges of distributing child pornography, the AP reported. Ricky Patrick Hester, of Granger, Indiana, was due to graduate from West Point in 2014. Instead, he faced a U.S. District Court in White Plains after pleading not guilty to

possession and distribution of child pornography charges. Hester was arrested on the West Point campus in December 2013. He was 23 years old at the time of his arrest. Prosecutors allege that Hester sent videos that showed young boys engaged in explicit sexual

activity to other Internet users. They say they have statements from Hester acknowledging to Homeland Security agents that he sent and received child porn, the AP reported. “From at least as early as February 2013, and up to on or about Sept. 29, 2013, on a number of occasions, Hester possessed

and distributed images and videos containing child pornography,” the Department of Justice said. Receiving or distributing child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. MEGAN FU

Bloomsday blooms again

“It’s a huge book; I’ve never actually read it cover to cover, and I know very few people who have. I’ve always been interested in James Joyce, but I haven’t read him in many, many years.”

June 16 is a big day for James Joyce fans. Around the city, events in honor of Bloomsday celebrated Joyce’s epic novel “Ulysses” and the character Leopold Bloom, who goes about his day in Dublin on June 16. To the left, a man reads in Bryant Park.

Midtown’s Spa Castle gets second chance Shuttered. The spa, which was closed by the health department, reopened Tuesday.

We are not a chain, n, trust the doctor that hat cares about you!

% of our patients refer their family and friends to us! Thank you!

The opening of Spa Castle at 115 East 57th Street

Spa Castle Premier 57, the large Midtown three-level spa that was shut down in January, reopened Tuesday with little fanfare. There were no balloons or music, and few people. Breana Shack, visiting from Florida, was one of the only visitors. “I saw the pictures online and it looked amazing, and that was the whole reason I came here,” said Shack. “I haven’t been back to New York in many years, and this was the main place I wanted to come [to see].” Spa Castle Premier 57 is the younger sibling of Spa Castle in College Point, Queens. It was shut down earlier this year by the Department of Health for operating without the permit or the required safety plan needed to run a bathing establishment, reported DNAinfo. Last December, an 84-year-old man died in

a jacuzzi at the College Point location. According to the Department of Health, Spa Castle Premier 57 was initially constructed without a review from the department. In addition to lacking a permit and safety plan, the spa did not offer accommodations for the disabled, a requirement of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The department said since the shutdown, the spa made the necessary changes and received a permit. “I was just looking up something exciting for me and my girlfriend,” said Manny Owens, who visited on Tuesday. He said shutdowns from the Department of Health didn’t bother him. “No, everybody gets a second chance,” Owen said. Spa Castle Premier 57 features hydrotherapy bade pools with reflexology water jets and a multitude of various sauna rooms, as well as lounges and refreshments. A day pass costs $65. Spitzer proposes luxury development Former Gov. Eliot Spitzer’s company is building a three-tower residential building near the Williamsburg Bridge. Spitzer is expected to announce the plans later today. The New York Times reported Tuesday that the $700 million project has plans for three towers, 856 apartments and two rooftop pools. Spitzer Enterprises, of which the former governor assumed leadership last year after his father’s death, closed on the threeacre parcel earlier this year and secured building permits on June 8. Spitzer, who stepped down in 2008 following a prostitution scandal, will keep 20 percent of the units for low-income tenants. WENDY JOAN BIDDLECOMBE

The groundbreaking of Cornell’s tech campus on Roosevelt Island created a rare opportunity for New York Mayor Bill de Blasio to stand side by side with his billionaire predecessor. De Blasio and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg toured the campus Tuesday and were caught in a number of photographs, before announcing that the latter had made a donation of $100 million to the school. the Bloomberg Center, in honor of Bloomberg’s daughters, Emma and Georgina. Three and a half years ago, Cornell Tech received $400 million to build an applied sciences campus on Roosevelt Island after being selected as the win-

ner of the New York City Economic Development Corporation’s Applied Sciences NYC Initiative. The Bloomberg-era initiative sought proposals for a university to develop a campus in partnership with the city. Currently, Cornell Tech

is located at a temporary location in Chelsea with about 15 world-class faculty members, an additional 15 on research and development staff, two dozen Ph.D. students in several disciplines and four master’s programs. The majority of Cornell Tech’s nearly 100 alumni are either pursuing their own startups or working at tech companies throughout New York City. “By bringing together academia and industry in the service of invention and innovation, Cornell Tech will provide a path-

way to opportunity for thousands of New Yorkers,” de Blasio said in a press release. Cornell Tech has already partnered with more than a dozen local schools on Roosevelt Island, including P.S./I.S. 217. Cornell will contribute to teacher training and support, STEM education, after-school programming courses, career day options and more at P.S./I.S. 217. MEGAN FU @MetroNewYork letters@metro.us

The lawyers arguing to keep secret details of the Eric Garner grand jury hearing came under strong questioning Tuesday by appellate court judges, who are tasked with deciding whether to unseal testimony. Several outlets reported that a judge went as far as to ask whether prosecutors were using the sealing of the grand jury testimony to gloss over the fact that they hadn’t been unable to obtain indictments of the police officer who delivered the fatal chokehold to Garner.

“Your office seems to have wanted to put a very pretty gloss on what happened and kind of sweep everything under the rug and use grand jury secrecy as its protection,” Judge Leonard Austin reportedly said to lawyers representing the Staten Island district attorney’s office. The appellate court heard arguments from the public advocate’s office, the New York Civil Liberties Union and Legal Aid Society, who are calling for certain information from the Garner grand jury decision be unsealed. Six Irish visitors killed in Calif. balcony collapse

An apartment balcony collapsed early on Tuesday near the University of California at Berkeley, killing six people, all believed to be visiting college students from Ireland, and injuring several others. The victims, most if not all of whom were working in the San Francisco Bay area on temporary visas for summer vacation, had been celebrating a friend’s 21st birthday when the tragedy occurred, according to Irish government officials in Dublin. Pictures from the scene showed that the

fourth-floor balcony gave way and pancaked onto the third-story balcony just beneath it at the Library Gardens apartment complex, about two blocks from the UC Berkeley campus across the bay from San Francisco. Berkeley Police spokeswoman Jennifer Coats initially reported that at least five people were killed. The coroner bureau of the Alameda County Sheriff ’s Office later said six fatalities had been confirmed. Coats said as many as eight people were badly hurt in the collapse. Injuries sustained by the surviving victims, she said, were “very serious and potentially lifethreatening.” REUTERS

Toyota expands Takata U.S. air bag recalls by 1.37M vehicles

Toyota Motor will recall almost 1.37 million more vehicles in the U.S. due to potentially deadly front passenger-side air bags made by Japan’s Takata Corp., Toyota said on Tuesday. The expansion pushes the total number of Toyota vehicles recalled in the U.S. because of dangers posed by Takata air bags to more than 2.9 million. Trump barges into 2016 race for the White House Only top 10. Trump’s first big challenge is to make it into a Fox News GOP debate in August. Real estate mogul and TV personality Donald Trump barged his way into the 2016 presidential election in a blitz of boasts, inflammatory comments and attacks on both fellow Republicans and President Barack Obama’s administration. Trump wallowed in political incorrectness as he insulted everyone from Mexican immigrants to Jeb Bush and U.S. ally Saudi Arabia in announcing his

bid for the Republican nomination. “I will be the greatest jobs president that God ever created,” Trump predicted in a long, combative speech in the atrium of Trump Tower on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. The billionaire, widely seen as having almost no chance of winning the nomination, brings an outsized personality and a penchant for controversy to an unusually large group of Republicans vying for the presidency. In highly provocative comments, Trump accused Mexico of sending rapists and other criminals to live in the U.S.

Eleven other Republicans have announced they are running for the November 2016 election. Republican strategists and officials cringe at the thought of Trump grabbing attention away from the party’s more serious candidates as it tries to win back the White House. REUTERS

FDA

Trans fat ban doesn’t mean you’ll never eat it Goodbye, trans fats. Well, mostly. The Food and Drug Administration officially declared that partially hydrogenated oils, the main source of trans fats in processed foods, are no longer “generally recognized as safe” to eat. Trans fats not only raise your levels of bad cholesterol, but they also lower your levels of good cholesterol. In the statement announcing its policy change, the FDA said it expects to cut rates of coronary heart disease and prevent thousands of fatal heart attacks annually. Many companies have seen the writing on the wall — this change

has been three years in the making — and have already begun to change their recipes. But food manufacturers will have three years to figure out how to make your French fries and cupcakes healthier. But this ban doesn’t mean trans fats will never be on your plate again. The problem isn’t the low levels of naturally occurring trans fats — it’s the extent of their use in practically everything. Many restaurants fry their food in partially hydrogenated oil to keep down costs because it stays good longer than natural oils, packaged baked goods like crackers and cookies contain trans fats to keep their texture and ready-made frosting doesn’t melt because of trans fats. Filmmaker Alex Ross Perry and star Elisabeth Moss immediately reunited after “Listen Up Philip, though the results couldn’t be more different. Perry’s love of uncom-

fortably intimate camera work and withering one-liners is repurposed for the psychological horror genre, with Moss as a recent dumpee unraveling during a country trip with a friend (an oft-hilarious Katherine Waterston). What follows isn’t meant to be solved like a puzzle; instead it’s a mood of vague unease meant to be savored. ‘Tangerine’

It’s 1991 Sundance all over again, with the first prominent Amerindie shot entirely on an iPhone, as well as one of the too few to star trans actresses. But where the indies of that era tended to be earnest and cloying, “Tangerine is anything but. Director Sean Baker embraces his

amateur tech but also demonstrates a good eye. The glee with which this scrappy number has been made translates to the audience, and the feeling is like being swept up in some particularly out-ofcontrol chaos. ‘Uncle Kent 2’

Self-consciously aiming for crazy sequel heaven, the follow-up to a film that needed no follow-up — and is largely known only by Joe Swanberg’s most devoted acolytes anyway — finds lead actor Kent Osborne, last seen trying to get with his houseguest, getting caught up in some on-the-cheap apocalyptic shenanigans. The fact that it exists at all is funnier than most of the actual jokes, but new director

Todd Rohal (“The Catechism Cataclysm) keeps this tiny fit of insanity on a wobbly kind of track. Repertory

‘Kids’ these days Perhaps the biggest event in the fest is the anniversary screening of Larry Clark’s 1995 indie shocker “Kids, which is now itself almost old enough to legally buy booze. At the time it seemed frank, if not alarmist. Time may have dulled that aspect while elevating Clark’s uncanny, even skeezy gift for getting youths to loosen up (and more) in front of his camera.

“Fraction Of An Inch” Success And Failure With Popular Vital Information All Knee Arthritis Sufferers By Matt Edgar-Health Writer Manhattan - In just a moment I’m going to tell you about a very “candid” and somewhat embarrassing moment I had with a doctor. A moment most doctors would not want you to know about. As I reveal what happened in that moment - it will become clear to you not only why this doctor has so much success treating knee arthritis pain... but you will also discover a possible way to relieve some or all of your pain, too. But before I tell you all that - let me ask you this: How would you like to finally have a real medical solution for your knee arthritis pain? Not some scam sold on an infomercial or the internet. A real medical treatment that has already worked for countless people just like you and is covered by most insurance and medicare? Can you imagine what it would feel like to be able to eliminate enough of your pain and stiffness so you can get out of bed without pain and go for walks and even do things like play golf or tennis? How relieved would you be if you felt so much better that you no longer needed to go through total knee replacement surgery and all the grueling rehabilitation? Sounds Too Good To Be True? I’m glad we agree. It does sound too good to be true. That’s because all patients react differently and get different results from real medical treatments. That’s also why no ethical doctor would promise or guarantee ANY results... for

ANY treatment. EVER. In fact - if you do start hearing over-the-top, exaggerated claims like: “cure for knee arthritis” or “eliminates all pain” or “works for everyone” you should run like heck. But the fact of the matter is: If you qualify for the treatment you are about to discover, there is a good chance you may be able to relieve some or much of your pain. I know because thousands of knee arthritis sufferers... just like you... have already found the relief you are looking for. And even better - this might work for you if your pain is new... or if you have advanced knee arthritis that has made it difficult to even walk. Here’s The Treatment And The Embarrassing Moment The treatment is called viscosupplemtation. If you have not heard of this treatment - I will explain how it might help you in just a moment. If you have heard of it - or even had this treatment without good results - this information is a “must read.”

Advanced Knee Arthritis Treatment Offers New Hope For Pain Sufferers In New York City

Nothing Spreads The Word Like Caring Doctors and Results - Knee arthritis sufferers have swarmed the OsteoRelief Center in Manhattan, NYC and Norhtern New j Jersey ever since word got out of their advanced medical procedure for knee arthritis

This all sounds great - in theory. But there is a BIG problem with this treatment. Allow Me To Explain... While doing research on this treatment, I traveled to a medical clinic in Northern N.J. right outside NYC (they now have clinics in mid town and downtown).. This clinic had an excellent reputation and I got to speak not only with doctors but with several patients who ranted and raved about the results. Many said they had tried countless other treatments Here is why: When you in the past... including have arthritis, one of the things viscosupplementation... but that happens is the lubricating nothing worked until they had fluid in your joints deceases. viscosupplemtation at this This causes joint surfaces to clinic. rub, then grind against each I was skeptical, so I asked other which causes swelling one of the doctors why. PRECISE. In other words, the doctor must be very accurate and actually get the lubricating fluid precisely into the arthritic joint space or the treatment will be rendered useless. Many doctors do not want to admit it - but it is very easy to miss the joint space and alter the treatment results. In fact, research shows that doctors doing these types of joint procedures without advanced imaging may miss the joint space as much as 30% of the time.

Technology To The Rescue Thankfully technology is solving this problem. How? It’s making doctors much more accurate and this treatment much more effective. Advanced imaging is now available that allows doctors to actually see directly into the joint space and watch the treatment. Doctors can see, or check, if the lubricating fluid goes directly into the joint space - or misses. The doctor knows if the applied treatment has been a success... or failure... INSTANTLY.

Interview. JoAnna Garcia Swisher says life as an astronaut’s wife was pretty complicated. Movies like “Apollo 13 or the HBO miniseries “From the Earth to the Moon have given modern audiences a taste of what it was like to experience the space race in the ’60s. Daring astronauts, clever men on the ground, a race against the Soviets — it all makes for dramatic television. But there’s another side to that time period: the women the astronauts left behind when they traveled. These wives were celebrities and, for many people, represented a very public face of happy marriage. Of course, behind the scenes, the story was a little different, and that’s

that certainly had its own set of stressors and fears attached to it. They were very strong and very capable of handling the unknown and being prepared for the worst. In these particular circumstance, there were so many pressures that were put on them. When their husbands were sent off to war, they didn’t have to keep a certain household in a certain way. It was a very real situation, so the addition of all of the expectations that were put on these women added to the complete fishout-of-water experience, certainly for Betty. She definitely wasn’t the most polished of wives. She was known for speaking her mind and saying her piece.

The show also has a lot of period details, like the food all the wives were serving. Oh god. I don’t even know how people survived back

then. They’re all very authentic recipes. Betty was a lover of creative foods. So I always looked forward to shooting launch parties or get-togethers because I was always interested to see what Betty would bring to the table. Did you try some of it? Oh absolutely, we ate and drank our way through the show, all of us. Whether we were on set or not. We shot the show in New Orleans and we all enjoyed what New Orleans had to offer. There are deďŹ nitely some creative meals served up. Some meatloaf cupcakes — they were amazing. What’s in a meatloaf cupcake? It’s actually phenomenal. It’s a muffin tin filled with meatloaf baked with a mashed potato icing topping and it is spectacular. LISA WEIDENFELD @LisaWeidenfeld lisa.weidenfeld@metro.us

Real-life parallels

As someone who’s been acting for a long time, did you identify with Betty’s experience with the press? Honestly, I related a lot to it as a baseball wife. It’s a huge part of my life. I’m married to a baseball player [Nick Swisher]. I never knew that particular experience would ever directly apply to my career. But I do know what it’s like to move to a new city because of your husband’s job and rely on brand-new

friends and brandnew women from all different places in the country and in the world with all different beliefs and ideology. Everyone has a different frame of reference, but you all come together to support each other because that’s what you do. I really appreciate my friendships through that. Through the good and the bad and the highs and lows of your husband’s career, you flock to each other and support each other. It’s really hard to understand what it feels like if you’re not in it.

Ready to graduate One more thing

Thomas Mann plays “me and Olivia Cooke plays “the Dying Girl. / FOX SEARCHLIGHT

Film. Thomas Mann thinks he’s already done his best high school role. Thomas Mann has done a lot of high school movies, but he doesn’t think he’ll do adolescence better than in “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl,â€? and he’d like to grow up now if that’s OK, Hollywood. You brought both this ďŹ lm and “The Stanford Prison Experimentâ€? to Sundance this year. That had to be a cool experience. Even if I have another film there, it won’t come close to matching the whirlwind experience that this year was. I was just excited to go to Sundance. I felt like those two movies were really a turning point for me. It’s like a second phase of my career now and I’m sort of growing up. And while Greg is an immature character, it’s the most mature role of my career by far. And it’s the most of myself I’ve ever had to leave on screen. So to be recognized in that way for those movies that are both very close to me was awesome. As an actor, do you get to decide how long you play high school age? Or is that not up to you? Obviously now I’m trying to get away from it, and I sort of have. In “The Stanford

Prison Experiment I’m playing early 20s, and the next film I’m doing this summer is early 20s. I feel like “Me and Earl is my quintessential high school movie. I can’t go back. I really grew up a lot, both as an actor and just going through the emotional journey that the character goes through and the self-discovery of that. It would be so hard for me to go back and play these old beats.

The industry may have its own ideas about that, though. Yeah, and that’s fine. I look young and I can still play 18. I’m just grateful that people want to cast me in anything at all. There’s a lot of people who can’t find work, so I’m so grateful that I’m able to make a living doing this. And if I have to wait a little bit longer to play early 20s, then that’s not a big deal.

What was the process of actually shooting the ďŹ lms within the ďŹ lm that your character makes? I used to do that when I was in middle school, make parodies of other movies or make YouTube videos or whatever. It honestly felt like that. We just kind of went around in a van, knocked out ďŹ ve of them in a row one afternoon on probably the ďŹ rst day that we shot — switching costumes in the car, going around to all these dierent locations in Pittsburgh, just kind of stealing these shots. It was very guerrilla-style and very fun. They felt perfectly unprofessional.

Ikea hacks Get creative with furniture staples from the popular Swedish furniture brand.

MARIANNE HAYES @metronewyork letters@metro.us

Ikea just celebrated its 30th anniversary in the U.S. What better way to honor everybody’s favorite ready-to-assemble furniture company than with a roundup of supercreative hacks? We’ve scoured the Internet for the best DIY projects that turn generic pieces into furniture that wows.

gave it a little facelift.” The best part? It only cost $10 in lumber and a few hours of work to create it.

If you’ve been on Pinterest lately, you know that the farmhouse theme is trending hardcore right now. But you don’t have to spend a fortune to incorporate it into your home. Blogger Natalie Dalpias of The Creative Mom cracked the code with this DIY coffee table upgrade. “I love using rustic, charming, one-of-a-kind pieces of furniture,” she says. “So when I needed a coffee table in my living room, I knew I wanted it to be a farmhouse-style coffee table. Instead of building it all myself, I used the Hemnes coffee table from Ikea and

How to pull it off: Head to a local hardware store and pick up enough 1x4 wooden boards to cover the length of the table. (You may have to cut them, so measure the table beforehand.) Stain the boards any color you choose, then apply wax for additional protection. Glue the boards onto the tabletop using an adhesive like Liquid Nails. Then clamp the sides down while you fasten some screws on the table’s underside. Tip: Flip the table upside down and set something heavy on the underside. It will really help the glue do its work.

Love where you live High-end gold and marble shelves

Quirky “suitcase” dresser

Looking to add some glam in your life? This hack majorly transforms an ordinary glass shelf into a luxe unit for showcasing everything from books to accent pieces. “We love this project for the simple ease of execution and the time factor,” says Erin Lepperd of Style Me Pretty. “If you can spray paint and use scissors, you’ll be a pro.” This faux high-end project is actually a totally budget-friendly piece. The transformation relies on gold spray paint and some marble contact paper— that’s it. Lepperd adds that the whole shebang shouldn’t cost more than $100.

This hack puts an eccentric twist on everyday decor. By swapping out boring old knobs for unique drawer pulls, it creates the illusion of stacked, vintage-style luggage. “I love to travel, so I painted an Ikea Rast dresser to look like suitcases stacked together,” says blogger Jen Crider of Girl in the Garage. “Just looking at it reminds me of all the wonderful places I’ve been and memories I’ve made.” You can pull off this hack with any standard set of drawers, but it’s the leather scraps and old suitcase accessories that really give the finished piece some character.

How to pull it off: Assemble the unit, then lay it outside on a drop cloth before applying three light coats of gold spray paint to the frame. Then let it dry for about half an hour. Apply a mix of beige and natural marble contact paper to the shelves, then assemble the rest of the shelf per the instructions.

Gemini | May 22-June 20 You may be busy, but making time for a friend in need should take precedence. Your dependability will be appreciated.

Virgo | Aug. 23-Sept. 22 Don’t be open about your dreams. You have a lot riding on being the best, so don’t give them the chance to steal your thunder.

Sagittarius | Nov. 22-Dec. 21 There is money to be made if you are savvy. Don’t fork over any of your own cash on a risky investment. Be prudent.

Pisces | Feb. 19-March 20 Use your versatility to the max. Brainstorming with other successful individuals will give you insight into marketing trends.

Many would benefit from salt labels

Cancer | June 21-July 22 Look into your family tree. The things you learn about your lineage will help explain some of the current issues facing you and will give you insight.

Libra | Sept. 23-Oct. 22 Don’t share personal information. Someone will use it to smear your reputation. Step up and take control of whatever situation you face.

Capricorn | Dec. 22-Jan. 20 You will be oversensitive today. Don’t take everything to heart. Make personal changes that will amp up your confidence.

Aries | March 21-April 20 Your old friends may be jealous of a new acquaintance. Make sure to spend time with people who have always been in your corner.

Scorpio |Oct. 23-Nov. 21 Reflecting on your past will give you an outline for what you need to do in the future. You will come out on top once you have your game plan in place.

Aquarius | Jan. 21-Feb. 18 Love is in a high cycle. Embrace any opportunity to increase your knowledge and broaden your job prospects. Lady Luck is smiling on you.

Taurus | April 21-May 21 Your problems and concerns will mount if you don’t listen to what others are saying and observe what they are doing.

Re: ‘With a grain of salt’ (Metro, June 16) A new salt labeling proposal is highly necessary. More than one-third of U.S. adults are obese or overweight. We need to focus more on our health rather than what’s going to make our foods taste good. Humans were not created to consume the processed junk that is on the market today. Processed foods are loaded with sodium. Having salt labels would make people more aware of their nutrient consumption, which may result in better food choices. You also make it seem as if salt is the only seasoning that can make food taste good.

Leo | July 23-Aug. 22 You will fall behind if you underestimate your competition. Dig below the surface to find out the details that will lead you to victory.

How to play Fill in the grid so that every row, every column and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1-9. There is no math involved. You solve the puzzle with reasoning and logic.

There are so many healthy seasonings on the market that can make homecooked meals taste great (pepper, oregano, garlic, etc.). If it’s going to make me more aware, then I am for it. TABATHA LOPEZ Eva Kis starts out with a shaky argument against restaurant salt labeling when she compares it to proposals to ban large sodas. Obviously, providing information about food is a lot different than banning it. Seventy million Americans have high blood pressure, and for those people eating saltladen restaurant meals risks their health. What’s wrong with providing the information that allows them to protect their health, while allowing everyone else to continue to eat what they want? WALTER BRANSON, VIA EMAIL

Justise, not for all NBA. Justise Winslow will be available to the Knicks, but should they want him? Justise Winslow was the true MVP for Duke during its run through the 2015 NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Winslow made the plays when the Blue Devils needed him to. Case in point: He was fantastic against Utah when the team was searching for answers. In fact, during the tournament, Winslow upped his rebounding to more than nine per game and shot 8 for 14 from beyond the arc. Winslow emerged as the matchup problem teams could not solve. He was too strong for collegiate guards to defend and too quick for frontcourt players. His confidence

grew as the season wore on and he became more assertive as the season progressed. For the season, Winslow shot 48 percent from the field, 41 percent from beyond the arc and 64 percent from the foul line, respectable but not

great numbers. His assertion into the power forward spot provided Duke the athleticism and quickness needed to become national champions. Of course, his success as a power forward drew concerns because of the dreaded “tweener” label. His offensive game is comprised of 3-point shooting ability; powerful, slashing drives and a post-up game. Defensively, he is one of the best perimeter defenders in the draft. For Winslow, areas that will be under close examination are his ability to pull up off the dribble, the release speed of his jump shot and his ball handling. For him to be the first perimeter player off the board, he will need to prove his proficiency in these areas during his predraft team workouts. LEIGH KLEIN @LeighAlanKlein sports@metro.us

E.D. medication not working? Erectile dysfunction (E.D.) affects more than 30 million men in the U.S. It is especially common in men with diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, prostate cancer, prostate surgery, heart problems, and in past or current cigarette smokers. However, it is now possible to treat almost all men with E.D! E.D. undermines a man’s sexual confidence—but successful treatment can restore it! Many E.D. treatments are covered by most insurance and prescription plans. Attend a FREE seminar to educate men and their partners about approved E.D. treatment options. Free refreshments will be served, and partners are encouraged to attend. Featuring: Dr. Seth Cohen A board certified urologist who specializes in the treatment of E.D.

Painful Varicose Veins & Swollen Legs?

MLB Power Rankings | by Ryan Hannable No. 1

No. 3

No. 7

Astros (37-28)

Mets (35-30)

Houston has rebounded, winning two straight, but it has still dropped seven of 10. The Astros hold a 2.5-game division lead.

The Mets are 25-11 at home. They DFA’d pitcher Dillon Gee on Monday. Probably a wise move.

No. 4

Cardinals (42-21) It’s not surprising to see how much success the Cardinals have had this season given preseason expectations. What is surprising is the amount of success they’ve had with all the injuries. Adam Wainwright, Lance Lynn, Matt Holliday and Matt Adams have all gone down this year.

Varicose veins are more than a cosmetic problem. They are associated with Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Pulmonary Embolism (PE), both of which claim up to 300,000 lives a year in the United States.

No. 8

Pirates (36-27)

Cubs (34-27)

Along with Gerrit Cole’s dominance from the mound, Starling Marte’s 45 RBIs are fifth in the NL. But Pittsburgh is having trouble gaining any ground on St. Louis.

Like the Pirates, the Cubs can’t gain ground on St. Louis. Jon Lester has been under some scrutiny for not yet performing like the ace he was expected to be.

Twins (34-29)

Don’t look now but the Rays have won four straight and are now in first place in the AL East. Chris Archer has led the way with a sparkling 2.00 ERA.

The Twins have fallen back to Earth, losing eight of their last 10 games to now trail the Royals by 2.5 games in the AL Central. Still, Glen Perkins leads all of baseball with 22 saves.

No. 6

Skin Discoloration Ulcers and Blood Clots Difficulty Walking Long Distances You may have a condition called venous insufficiency, which left untreated can lead to serious health complications. Our non-surgical, minimally invasive and painless endovenous procedure only takes 15 minutes.

No. 10

Royals (35-25)

Yankees (34-29)

The Dodgers’ plus-57 rundifferential is the secondbest in the NL as they have opened a 3.5-game advantage in the NL West. Zack Greinke currently owns a 1.95 ERA.

The Royals have played .500 ball of late, but with the Twins struggling greatly, Kansas City has taken over the top spot in a competitive American League Central.

Although the Yankees have fallen out of first place in the AL East, it doesn’t mean they have played poorly of late. Mark Teixeira’s 18 homers and 48 RBIs lead the AL.

JPP a no-show at Giants camp Tuesday marked the start to the final week of the two-hand touch sessions, also known as organized team activities (OTAs), before the players scatter for their abbreviated summer breaks. And of the players most people wanted to hear and see from during this mandatory session was star defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, who was nowhere to be seen or heard, as he jettisoned the idea of showing up without a contract. Pierre-Paul, who was slapped with the franchise tag, has yet to sign his tender, meaning he’s still not too keen on the one-year, fully guaranteed $14.81 million offer, and also

averse to putting his body in harm’s way without long-term security. The Pro Bowler has until July 15 to sign his one-year tender if the two sides can’t negotiate

a long-term deal. Head coach Tom Coughlin was near certain during last week’s voluntary minicamp that Pierre-Paul would attend this week’s mandatory workout. Pierre-Paul’s positional coach, Robert Nunn, said that he and Pierre-Paul have talked at least “six or seven” times this offseason. The coach reassured that Pierre-Paul is, in fact, working hard on his own near his home in Miami, and that it’s “not unusual” for an unsigned franchise player to do so. Nunn added that Pierre-Paul will need “to get in as soon as possible to catch up on a few wrinkles we put in … and if he’s to come back in the right JASON PIERRE-PAUL frame of GETTY IMAGES mind and

in good shape, he’ll be ready to go.” The overseer of the defense, coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, also said that Pierre-Paul needs to get in as soon as possible, just so he can finally begin putting Pierre-Paul in the right spots in the newlook defense. Without the star defender, it’s been a plug-and-play situation of guys who aren’t used to being the impetus to the pass rush. “It’s good to get other guys more reps,” Spagnuolo said, highlighting the extra chances that guys like George Selvie, Kerry Wynn, Owa Odighizuwa and Damontre Moore will get. “From what I’ve seen on film, [Pierre-Paul] still looks pretty elite to me … but not being here, he’s also going to be behind because there is a lot we are doing right now. Terminology is big in this league on both sides of the ball.” TONY WILLIAMS
