They were taking the Twitter shutdown in stride and told Metro they plan to keep running the parody account in one form or another for as long as they can. “As long as it’s fun [which it was] then I’ll keep doing it,” the mystery tweeter said. “That’s mostly dependent upon people lobbing their frustrations at me, though.” A representative for Twitter said the company cannot comment on individual accounts, but said it had fielded 33 requests to review Twitter accounts from government officials in Massachusetts in the first half of 2015.

After a few hours of trolling, a short-lived parody Twitter account went dark on Monday, but the anonymous tweeter behind it has no plans of stopping soon. The account, @BostonBTD, posed as an official mouthpiece for the Boston Transportation Department, complete with an official-looking bio and photo. “Hello Boston! Tell us what you love about transportation in Boston,” the first tweet read. But it quickly became clear it was a venue for lulz, with everything from sarcastic barbs
all kinds of messed up. Unlikely you’ll make it home tonight,” the account responded. As of 3 p.m. on Monday, the new account was still active. I t s f o u n d e r, who spoke with Metro via Twitter direct message and asked to remain anonymous, said he/she (they declined to share their gender or age but said they live in the city) was inspired to start the account by lack of direction on transit in Boston. “I’m someone that rides the bus, takes the train and rides a bicycle in the city, and [like many others in the city] have grown really frustrated with the autocentric transportation priorities of the city,” the mystery tweeter wrote. “There’s the simple fact that they don’t have a social media presence, but the more important issue is the ac-

T can’t do it without you,” asked one user. “No,” the account responded. Soon, after lots of attention and a story in The Boston Globe, the fun was over. According to a notice
from Twitter, the account had been suspended. The city contacted the social media site with concerns about the account’s use of the BTD logo, a spokeswoman told Metro. And then it appeared to reemerge, this time as @Boston_DPW. “What’s the Red Line looking like today? Dig this: Archaeology on Boston The two-day dig for historical artifacts started Monday morning. It’s open to the public, so check it out. SPENCER BUELL @MetroBOS

A team of archaeologists were digging for historical treasures buried in Boston Common on Monday, the start of a two-day exploration on the storied grounds. The dig began just after 11 a.m., and the city p l a n n e d to keep the hunt going through Tuesday between the Parkman Bandstand and the Boylston T stop. City representatives said the site is open to visitors.
City Archeologist (yes, we have one of those) Joe Bagley was on scene overseeing the survey, which is near old Revolutionary War encampments and a Native-American site, according to a release. “This is an amazing opportunity for Boston history fans,” Bagley said in a statement before work began Monday morning. There were just a few finds of note by the end of the day on Monday, Bagley told Metro. But

Whitey’s girlfriend Greig The longtime girlfriend of former Boston mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger pleaded not guilty on Monday to contempt charges for refusing to testify about whether anyone helped the couple during their 16 years on the lam. Catherine Greig, 64, is already serving an eight-year sentence in federal prison in Waseca, Minnesota, after pleading guilty in 2012 to identity fraud and harboring a fugitive stemming from her years hiding with Bulger. Bulger, 86, was convicted in 2013 of murdering or ordering the killings of 11 people while he ran the notorious “Winter Hill” gang in the 1970s and 1980s. He is serving a life sentence in a federal penitentiary in Sumterville, Florida. Greig, in a blue prison jumpsuit, spoke little during a brief appearance at U.S. District Court in Boston, telling a magistrate judge she

“This constitutes a bit of overreach,” Greig’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, said after the hearing. “She’ll be serving more time than some of the people who killed people in this case.” Kevin Weeks, a member of Bulger’s gang who testified against his old boss at Bulger’s 2013 trial, served five years

BRIEF Roxbury mom charged after setting o Amber Alert over sick son The Roxbury woman who triggered an Amber Alert for her seriously ill infant son was arraigned in Roxbury Municipal Court on Monday. Tiany Cherry, 36, was said to have ignored a Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, nurse practitioner’s request that her 2-month-old son needed emergency medical care. Instead of taking the child to
an emergency room, authorities said Cherry drove ďŹ ve hours up to Boston to have her son treated at Boston Children’s Hospital. A nationwide Amber Alert went out after she failed to bring her dehydrated son to the nearest hospital. A nurse at Children’s Hospital recognized the boy’s name from
the Amber Alert and contacted authorities. Cherry was arrested Saturday morning. Cherry faces charges from warrants issued in 2002 and 2010 related to prostitution and motor vehicle violations in Dorchester and Somerville respectively. She also faces charges for being a fugitive from justice on two warrants out
of Pittston, Pennsylvania, after she failed to bring her son to a hospital there as well, according to the Boston Globe. According to Channel 5 News, the boy’s father lives in Pennsylvania. A DCF spokeswoman told the Globe that the child had been taken in and placed in state custody. Cherry was held on $250, though the prosecution initially asked for $250,000. US appeals court upholds core of NY and Conn. gun laws The two Northeast states’ gun control measures are among the strictest in the nation. A federal appeals court on Monday upheld parts of New York and Connecticut gun control laws banning semiautomatic assault rifles and large-capacity magazines, ruling the measures passed after a 2012 school massacre did not violate the Constitution. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York upheld the bans on semiautomatic weapons and large-capacity magazines, but struck down a New York provision barring gun owners from loading more than seven bullets in a clip and a Connecticut prohibition on the nonsemiautomatic Remington 7615. The Newtown shooting revived a national debate on gun control. At the time, President Barack Obama launched an aggressive gun control push but his efforts largely failed in Congress. The appeals court, in upholding the provisions, ruled against coalitions that included firearms dealers, sports shooters and gun owners

who claimed the mandates infringed on their constitutional right to possess firearms. Legal experts said the ruling would have more of a symbolic than practical effect. “All this says is that if you pass such a law, it will be constitutional,” said James Jacobs, who teaches at New York University School of Law. “The states with the strongest gun control politics have already banned them. I don’t see other states running to do it because it’s constitutional,” Jacobs said.
Timothy Lytton, who teaches at Georgia State University College of Law and authored “Suing the Gun Industry,” said it was doubtful the ruling alone would sway Congress or individual states. “Court opinions like this are not likely to move legislatures,” he said. “The federal government has been at a stalemate over gun control legislation for well over a decade. If Sandy Hook could not move Congress to action, nothing is likely to,” he added. REUTERS

9/11 suspect seeks to represent himself in Guantanamo hearing A pretrial hearing for five Guantanamo Bay 9/11 suspects stalled on Monday when one of them asked how to represent himself in the death penalty case. Walid bin Attash, a Yemeni accused of running an al Qaeda camp in Afghanistan, told his attorneys he no longer trusted them and asked the court how he might represent himself. “We have so many problems in the camp that take precedence over anything we are discussing here in the court,” bin Attash said through an interpreter before the judge, Army Colonel James Pohl, silenced him due to security concerns. After speaking to him in private, bin Attash’s lawyer, Cheryl Bormann, said: “He feels like he has no relief from the torture and that everything is orchestrated by the United States government here.” Pohl is awaiting more information from government attorneys before ruling on bin Attash’s request. Proceedings are scheduled to resume on Tuesday. Bormann has complained about violations of attorney-client privilege at the prison in Cuba. She has cited bugged meeting rooms
Walid Bin Attash JANET HAMLIN/POOL
and an episode when guards seized legal documents from bin Attash’s cell. Almost 3,000 people were killed when hijackers slammed airliners into New York’s World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field on Sept. 11, 2001. Pretrial hearings for bin Attash and his accused co-conspirators have been derailed since last year, when defense lawyers learned the FBI was monitoring them. Jim Harrington, an attorney for suspect Ramzi Bin al Shibh, revealed in April 2014 that the FBI had questioned a member of his defense team. Court proceedings were postponed pending an investigation.
The results of the investigation were slated to be discussed on Monday, including whether Harrington will continue to represent Bin al Shibh. Navy Commander Gary Ross, a spokesman for the military tribunals, said in an emailed statement that a judge weighing a self-representation request had to evaluate whether the defendant knew of what it entailed and to be sure the suspect was aware of its consequences. Pohl “also directed that the defense counsel for Walid bin Attash needs to explain these aspects to her client before the session tomorrow,” the statement said. REUTERS

According to the Post, the hacker described himself as an American high school student who is not Muslim and was motivated by opposition to U.S. foreign policy and support for Palestine. Swift: ‘Bad Blood’ isn’t about Katy Perry You know how Taylor Swift said “Bad Blood” was about a female pop star with whom she was “straight-up enemies” and everyone figured out pretty quickly that she was talking about Katy Perry? Well, don’t listen to her — at least according to … Taylor Swift, who is now insisting to GQ that the track is actually about an exboyfriend. Of course, why would we doubt you? “You’re in a Rolling Stone interview, and the writer says, ‘Who is that song about? That sounds like a really intense moment from your life.’ And you sit there, and you know you’re on good terms with your ex-boyfriend, and you don’t want him — or his family to think you’re firing shots at him,” Swift explains. “So you say,
‘That was about losing a friend.’ And that’s basically all you say. But then people cryptically tweet about what you meant. I never said anything that would point a finger in the specific direction of one specific person, and I can sleep at night knowing that. I knew the song would be assigned to a person, and the easiest mark was someone who I didn’t want to be labeled with this song. It was not a song about heartbreak. It was about the loss of friendship.” Huh. So she was totally misdirecting us with the Katy Perry stuff. Joke’s on us. Oh well. Oh, and real subtle with the word choice there, Ms. Swift. I almost missed the one specific direction you wanted our imaginations to go in. That’s some impressive Styles.

Remember back in February when Eddie Murphy refused to do a Bill Cosby impression during the “SNL” 40th anniversary special? In case you don’t, here’s what he told the Washington Post about it: “It’s horrible. There’s nothing funny about it. If you get up there and you crack jokes about him, you’re just hurting people. You’re hurting him. You’re hurting his accusers.” Apparently, though, Murphy has had a change
of heart — or he was just saving it for his own gig. Murphy was honored with the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and celebrated by doing his first standup set in 28 years — including an impression of Cosby. “You may have heard recently that I allegedly put the pill in the people’s stomach,” Murphy said, doing a spot-on Cosby. “If I ever see or meet this Hannibal Buress in person I am going to try and kill this man!” So what changed?

Oh, Anthony Mackie. Just … why? The “Captain America: Winter Soldier” star is out promoting his film, “Our Brand Is Crisis,” about spin doctors managing political campaigns, so naturally he’s getting questions about which presidential candidate he’d most like to work with — and his answer is not so good: “I would 100 percent want to run Trump’s campaign. 100 percent,” he tells BET. “I mean, first that’ll be the best party ever when he won, and second, Trump’s an easy sell. When you look at Trump, he’s an easy sell because you can sell him as the guy who worked his way up from nothing. And I think if you’re a ‘pull yourself up by your bootstraps’ candidate, people would identify with that.” Which would be fine and all if Trump had actually worked his way up from nothing, but oh well.

No, I get it. It’s funny because of the age and all that. I get why people ask these questions. It makes sense — I would probably ask the question, too. But I don’t have any good answers for them, you know? The Olsen twins thing is funny because people are like, “Oh! You’re working with babies again!” That was 25 years ago. It’s not like it’s too soon. But it’s working. GETTY

Suddenly having two shows to work on, “Grandfathered” and “Fuller House,” at once seems like a good problem to have. I’m always throwing as many balls into the air as I can, and when they start
to work, they work. But yeah, I guess that’s what’s happening. But I’ve been waiting for it for a long time, so I’m really digging in and really giving it my all. I have so much happy, pure, good energy right now with the people around me and in my heart. You know, I was fuzzy for a few years, and now I’m clear. I can feel it. What was it that made things less fuzzy? I went through some personal issues [Stamos was arrested for a DUI in June before heading to rehab] and I just came out of it more grateful and just equipped to dig in deeper and work harder and be more present. The past, I realized, can be
really sometimes sad and dark, and the future gives me anxiety. So I just deal with today. And here we are with this show and I’m happy about it. Is it fun having people remark on you being too young to be a grandfather? To be honest with you, it’s flattering, but I don’t really know what the answer is. I think [the title is] a clever hook for the show just in thinking about marketing. Because we had about 50 other titles I preferred other than “Grandfathered,” but it was ‘What’s the twist, what’s the catch?’ What were some of those title ideas?
“John Stamos is a Sexy Dude in his 50s,” you know. Mainly just that one. (Laughs.) No, there was “Coming of Age,” and at one point we were going to call it “The G-Spot.” They wanted to call it “GILF.” We went through a bunch of stuff. I remember when they settled on “Grandfathered.” I mean, I get it, but the show to me is so much more than me being a grandfather.

Dating tips from OkCupid’s most popular girl OkCupid’s most messaged girl, Lauren Urasek, talks about becoming the most popular single girl in New York, plus her tips on getting your profile more views. EMILY LAURENCE @EmLaurence
emily.laurence@metro.us
When 25-year-old Lauren Urasek created her OkCupid profile last year, she really didn’t think too hard about it. “I just wrote what seemed natural to me, uploading some photos from my Instagram, and that was it,” she tells us. But in a matter of months, she became the dating site’s most messaged female, getting an average of 35 messages a day and more than 15,000 four- or five-star ratings in just a few months. As you can imag-
ine, she’s been on a lot of dates, many of which she spills about in her new book, “Popular.” Here, Urasek tells us how to get your profile more views, and once the messages are rolling in, how to have a successful dating life without burning out.
Urasek’s tips on giving your profile a boost. Focus on the photos. “A lot of it is just about having a good variety of clear, current pictures that are a variety of shots of your face and also full-length shots,” she says, adding that she would lead with a stellar face photo.

Limit the amount of dates you go on
Even at her most active, Urasek says she was only going on two dates a week — max. She has a reason as to why single guys and girls shouldn’t overschedule themselves with dates. “When you’re going out with multiple people, you end up not spending enough time with one person and getting to know him or her better because after your date, you’re already thinking about the next person you’re going to go out with,” she says. “Scheduling more dates becomes a pattern.” Her advice:

Show your weird side.“My profile was so random. I said I liked down comforters and swimming in the ocean,” Urasek says. “Don’t say you’re outgoing or like to travel because the last five people just wrote that.”
Lauren Urasek gets an average of 35 messages a day on OkCupid. PROVIDED
scale it down and give each person a valid shot before setting up a date with someone new.
2
Make the dates convenient for you
Urasek says when she first started online dating, she would go out of her way to meet her
dates at a place that was easy for him, or somewhere in the middle. Not anymore. “The best first date spot for me is a bar close to my apartment. It’s not really about the place. It’s about how convenient it is for you in case they suck,” she says. No matter how great someone seems online, the first
date is always a wild card. Make it easy on yourself.
3
Keep yourself busy with other things
One of the most draining parts of dating is having the same conversation over and over again. Where are you from? What do you do? Urasek says the way around this is by having enough going on in your life that you have other things to talk about. And then, bonus, you don’t care as much about your dates anyway. “When you’re happy being by yourself and keeping busy, dating isn’t a priority anyway,” she says.
Don’t be afraid to message first. If you’re a female, there can still be an urge to hold back messaging a guy, wanting him to pursue you instead. Urasek says to get over it. “A lot of guys now don’t want to be seen as a creep,” she says. “Also, just like anyone else, a lot of guys are intimidated and don’t want to be rejected. Whenever I’ve asked guys out, they always say they love it because most girls won’t do it.”

Time for a Change – Become a Nurse! Direct Entry Nursing at Regis College
METRO.US TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2015
Why millennials are more likely to save for their kids’ college
Have you always wanted to be a nurse or have you recently become interested in nursing? You have a bachelor’s degree, but not in nursing? For career changers and recent grads interested in joining the highly rewarding, in-demand field of nursing, Regis College offers several direct entry nursing programs that will allow you to fulfill your dream. Designed to be completed in just three years, the Part-Time Bachelor of Science in nursing program consists of eight semesters of part-time course work, including summers. Each semester, the student will take 6 to 8 credits towards the 62 credits needed to earn the BS in Nursing and be eligible to sit for the Registered Nurse license examination (NCLEX) following commencement. The Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Regis is a full-time, day and evening program. Students in this program are awarded their BS and are eligible to sit for the NCLEX in 16 months. With the three-year Accelerated Nurse Practitioner BS/MS in Nursing, students sit for the NCLEX after 16 months of study. They earn their BS in Nursing at the end of the second year and in the third year complete their nurse practitioner track and are awarded their Master’s degree. NP tracks include Pediatric, Adult-geriatric, Family, Women’s Health and Psych-mental Health. The BS component of the program must be completed full-time. Students can elect to complete the MS component part-time on a per credit basis. To learn more about the direct entry nursing options, attend an Information Session on the Regis College campus on November 5 at 6:00 p.m. For additional information, visit www.regiscollege.edu/graduateadmissions or call 781-768-7330.

Millennial parents are far more likely than their own parents to save for their children’s educations, often wanting to pay the whole tab. Seventy-four percent of parents aged 30 to 34 polled for the 2015 Fidelity Investments College Savings Indicator have put aside money for college, compared with 58 percent of parents the same age polled in 2007. Nearly half of millennials plan to pay for all college costs, compared with just 16 percent of parents the same age in 2007. Millennial parents have spent much, if not all, of their adult lives living with the fallout from the financial crisis, says Keith Bernhardt, vice president of retirement and college products at Fidelity. “They’ve seen the repercussions of taking on too much debt,” he says. Overall, the parents surveyed hope to pay for 66 percent of their children’s college costs. However, Fidelity projects they will be able to cover just 27 percent of projected college costs on average. The research firm interviewed 2,470 parents with children aged 18 and younger and household incomes over $30,000 a year. Among parents born between 1981 and 1997, 85 percent of those surveyed had attended col-
lege, and 61 percent had college degrees. The higher rates of education may explain why these parents are so gung-ho about helping their kids pay for college: They understand the benefit. An earlier Pew study found that 86 percent of college graduates felt their own education was a good investment, even as 57 percent of Americans said the higher education system fails to provide good value for the cost. While they may not be saving enough, the millennial parents polled have done many things right, Bernhardt says. The vast majority have put money aside monthly, and most (57 percent) started saving before their children turned six. Forty-three percent of millennials polled use 529 college savings plans to save, compared with 37 percent of Gen X. One thing parents are still getting wrong, though, is being afraid that saving for college will hurt their kids’ ability to get financial aid. Fidelity found 53 percent had that fear, even though money saved in a parent’s name has only a small impact on aid. Incomes factor far more into financial aid formulas than assets. “If you save $10,000, you’ll lose just $600 in financial aid,” Bernhardt says. “They want people to save.” REUTERS

Isenberg Online MBA Adds Value to Physician’s Career
Mark Fuller, Dean of the Isenberg School of Management with Dr. Bernard Lee. Like many physicians and medical administrators, Dr. Bernard Lee understands that health care is both a healing profession and a business. In 2011, Dr. Lee, who is Chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, earned his Online MBA from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst. During his MBA studies, Dr. Lee was in good company. The online program-ranked 11th in the world by the Financial Times-currently empowers 1300 upwardly mobile professionals, including 230 physicians. When Dr. Lee joined Beth Israel Deaconess, he was charged with building the hospital’s breast reconstruction program. That, he discovered, entailed organization and business proficiencies that went beyond his med school curriculum. That’s where Isenberg added tremendous value. “The program was so well designed; it was virtually seamless,” he recalls. Dr. Lee promptly applied his coursework to his professional challenges. He gained an immediate edge in increasing productivity, reducing waste, and building more effective teams. The curriculum also helped him to better understand the role of physicians and patients in the changing landscape of medicine. The Isenberg Online MBA, he emphasizes, was “phenomenal.” “I am proud to be an Isenberg alumnus.” At Isenberg, Dr. Lee joined a vibrant network of online MBA students from diverse professional backgrounds. They learn best business practices from one another and from our nationally celebrated faculty. Just like our students, Isenberg Online MBA dedicates itself to a singular mission of continuous adaptability and continuous improvement. Patriots on to their next ‘rival’ The Pats dumped the Colts and now the new-look Jets are on tap. JAMES TOSCANO @Jimmy_Toscano sports@metro.us
OK, so the Patriots didn’t beat the Colts by 70 points. In fact, they didn’t even cover (Vegas always seem to know). But the Pats did win. And though Tom Brady seemed less than thrilled with the performance, all that matters is that they left their business trip in Indianapolis with a 5-0 record. Of course, they had some help. The Colts actually looked like a competent football squad for the first half. They led the Patriots, 21-20, as thoughts of a Patriots blowout vanished after a Colts opening-drive touchdown. And then “SnapFu” happened. You already know what
Julian Edelman and Antonio Cromartie are sure to see plenty of each other this Sunday in Foxborough. GETTY IMAGES
play we’re referencing. With the Pats leading 27-21 late in the third quarter, the Colts faced a fourth-and-3. Inexplicably, they tried a fake-punt play in which nine of the 11 players rushed over to the nearside sideline and lined up … illegally. On top of that, the two players who stayed in the middle of the field — the “snapper” and “quarterback” — actually snapped the ball and were promptly tackled by a horde of Pats. It was, by all accounts, one of the dumbest plays in NFL history. It gave the Patriots the ball on Indy’s 35-yard line. Six plays later they’d score a touchdown to go up 13 points, and that was that. It was just the latest example of an opposing team psyching themselves out against the Patriots. And one team that’s done that more than just about any other since the turn of the century is the New York Jets. Led by Rex Ryan from 2009 to 2014, the
Jets did more than their fair share of trash talking — and even won a few games. But in the end, Ryan and the Jets were mostly just full of hot air (and the Bills might be finding that out the hard way this season). The Todd Bowles-era Jets, led by old pal Darrelle Revis, are 5-1 as they prepare for New England this Sunday. But just as Ryan still can’t get the Patriots off his mind, it seems like some of his former players can’t, either. Take Jets defensive end Sheldon Richardson for example. Coming off a 34-20 win over the Redskins on Sunday, Richardson
is already hyping himself up for next Sunday. “[They’ve] run this division for a while, so I am kind of happy we get next,” Richardson told ESPN. “We’re getting after it. I mean, they are the Super Bowl champions. Just leave it at that. You know, licking our chops.” This is hardly trash talk, but does speak to the way other teams across the league — and especially the division — think about the Patriots. To be the best you have to beat the best — everybody knows that. But what Richardson and the rest of the NFL have to realize is that the Patriots are licking their chops, too.
