A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck northern Oklahoma early Thursday, rattling residents out of their beds and shaking the ground across a 100-mile radius that included the city of Tulsa and the state of Kansas. The U.S. Geological Survey said the 1:42 a.m. CST quake’s epicenter was 8 miles southwest of Cherokee, Oklahoma. With a shallow depth of 3.8 miles (6.2 km), it was one of the most-powerful temblors to shake Oklahoma since the strongest one recorded there struck in 2011 with a 5.6 magnitude. REUTERS

Help Metro make magic Tony’s Metro Magic collecting toys for kids in NYC, Boston and Philadelphia In keeping with the holiday spirit of giving, Metro is once again launching Tony’s Metro Magic, our annual toy drive for underprivileged children in Boston, New York and Philadelphia. This year marks the 6th anniversary of the toy drive, which was renamed in memory of the man who oversaw the project for more than four years, Tony Metcalf, Metro’s longest-running editor-in-chief. Metcalf passed away in 2013 from colon cancer at the age of 50. Metcalf lit up every year as he saw the faces of children unwrap their holiday gifts. It is our goal to keep that magic alive. We are now asking readers to contribute what they can to Tony’s
Metro Magic. Metro has created a wish list at the Target website that readers can access by going to Metro.us and clicking on the Tony’s Metro Magic logo. From there, just choose the toys you wish to donate, pay online using Target’s secure payment system, and your gifts, along with your name attached, will be delivered to Metro’s offices in each city. So through the rest of November and December, both in print and online, we will be reminding readers to donate. This season, we hope you will remember the children who will spend the holidays in shelters or who may not have gifts to open. Even one small gift can make a big difference in a child’s holiday season. METRO

BRIEF Fired Millis cop charged in fake bomb threat, shootout A grand jury has indicted the disgraced Millis police officer who allegedly shot up his own cruiser after issuing a phony bomb threat at a local high school. The Norfolk County Grand Jury issued six indictments against Bryan Johnson, 24, for the Sept. 2 stunt. Johnson is accused of calling in a report of an ambush, saying a man in his mid 20s to early 30s driving a red pickup truck opened fire on his cruiser for no reason. The cruiser slid off the road, he said, hit a tree and burst into flames. Ballistics evidence led authorities to believe that Johnson was the actual gunman. There had also been a report of a bomb threat at Millis High School earlier that day. Authorities said they have determined that Johnson was responsible for calling in that false report as well. Johnson’s charges include: Willfully communicating a bomb threat to a school, which carries a maximum two-year sentence in state prison. Misleading a criminal investigation, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in state prison. Discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, which car-

Willful and malicious destruction of property worth more than $250 (for damaging the cruiser windshield), which carries a possible 10-year sentence. Wanton destruction of property worth more than $250 for crashing and burning the cruiser, which carries a 2½-year penalty in a house of corrections. Johnson pleaded not guilty in Wrentham District Court on Sept. 11 for misleading investigators, making false statements in an emergency situation, malicious destruction of property and unlawfully discharging a firearm. Authorities later charged him with issuing a bomb threat to Millis High School after further investigation. NATE HOMAN
Protesters plan to rally outside of the state house on Friday evening, calling on Gov. Charlie Baker to change his tune on whether or not the Bay State should house refugees fleeing the violence in Syria. While Baker’s position is purely symbolic — all matters regarding immigration are handled on the federal level — he said that he “is not interested in accepting refugees from Syria.” As of Tuesday, Baker joined a list of 31 other conservative governors in opposition to welcoming refugees. “I would say no as of right now,” Baker said to reporters at the State House on Monday. “I’m not interested in accepting refugees from Syria. I would need to know a lot more than I know now before I agree to do anything.” Local activists intend to call Baker out on

his position, hoping to spread a message of amnesty. “Baker knows that he has no real say, this is about scoring political points,” rally planner Khury Petersen-Smith of
the International Socialist Organization said. “He does not have the power to decide federal immigration policy. It’s dangerous to have governors get up and say that they do have the power to go above the federal law like we saw in the Civil Rights era. We know how that played out.” Even following the deadly attacks carried out in Paris by ISIS, some of whom may have posed as refugees, French President Francois Hollande said that France would accept 30,000 refugees because “life must go on.” “It is a very sad issue,” Henri Hajj, a refugee from the 15-year-long civil war in Lebanon in which the Syrian army was heavily involved, said. “A lot of people are suffering. I understand the concern, but there are many people who are in need and are desperate. They have
nowhere to go at all.” Hajj now works at Boston College in the tech department, but fled Beirut in 1979, four years into the Lebanese Civil War and three years after Syria entered the conflict. “You have ISIS on one side, [Syrian President Bashar] Assad on the other,” Hajj said. “It is a nightmare. It’s hard to tell which side is worse.” Hajj said that he believes that ISIS does not want the refugees to be welcomed in the United States. “I understand the resistance in accepting these people,” Hajj said. “But to penalize the whole group of people fleeing is a death sentence. These people are fleeing the people who attacked Paris and many other places in the world. There is already so much suffering from years of struggle. But children are the victims here, families are the victims.” NATE HOMAN

also ban fantasy competitions based on college sports, prohibit promotions of paid fantasy sports on high school and college campuses and bar professional athletes, agents and others connected to pro sports from taking part in paid fantasy contests related to their sports. “These are games that you carry around with you in your pocket and lose money at the touch of a button,” said Healey, who served as co-captain of Harvard’s basketball team and went on to play two years of professional basketball in Europe.
The proposals must be submitted to the secretary of state and will be subject to a public comment period before taking effect. Massachusetts’ approach is more restrained than that taken by New York, whose attorney general Tuesday sought a court injunction to shut down DraftKings and FanDuel, calling the games “plainly illegal.” Healey said it is unclear whether the contests are illegal under state law and noted that other state authorities, including the legislature or gaming commission, could take
other steps to rein in the games in Massachusetts. The state has the ninthlargest population of fantasy sports players, according to a survey by Eilers Research. A spokesman for Boston-based DraftKings called the steps “thoughtful and comprehensive” and said the company would immediately begin taking steps to comply with the proposed rules. “We appreciate that, in addition to Attorney General Healey, a number of state regulators and other authorities are taking a reasoned approach to the Fantasy Sports industry that considers the interests of sports fans,” DraftKings said in a statement. THE FUN STARTS HERE Bummed that “The Hunger Games” movies are all done? We have some ideas to keep the dream alive.
Now that the “Hunger Games” franchise has reached its final act, fans will be searching for ways to get their Panem fix. Director Francis Lawrence has said he isn’t opposed to spinoffs, and tributes will surely find creative ways to keep immersed in Katniss’ world. But we’re impatient, so we’ve imagined five ways the Games could go on right away.
Movies
With the vague possibility that the series could be extended, how about a sequel chronicling the rebuilding of Panem? A new president is in place following an emergency election. How will he or she direct the nation and districts? A political drama full of backstabbing and skullduggery a la “House of Cards” could be a nice change from the constant battle scenes of the first four films. Or how about a prequel giving us President Snow’s origin story? There’s so much we don’t know about the man who ruled Panem. How did
How Jennifer Lawrence really is Katniss She came from humble beginnings, the spotlight thrust upon her despite her obvious discomfort, and she went on to inspire a nation. Are we talking about Katniss Everdeen, Jennifer Lawrence’s “Hunger Games” character, or Lawrence herself? How about both? The parallels are eerie if you look closely enough. Lawrence first came to the public’s attention in the critically acclaimed Sundance darling “Winter’s Bone,” which saw her scrounging around Appalachia, hunting and skinning squirrels and risking life and limb to provide for her younger siblings. It was basically the first act of the first “Hunger Games” movie, minus all the totalitarianism. We thrilled with each new, elaborate red carpet gown, marveled at every acting triumph. We agonized over each death-defying pratfall before the cameras — until we realized her natural clumsiness was her greatest weapon. This girl really was on fire. She even found herself in a

real, honest-to-Panem love triangle, her heart torn between lanky, British “X-Men: First Class” co-star Nicholas Hoult and her first true love, working in awesome movies. Try as she might to make it work with Hoult, her thoughts — and often, her body — were clearly elsewhere, and if there wasn’t an “X-Men” movie actually in active production, she couldn’t make things work with Hoult. They’ll always have Montreal, though. As her work brought her more and more into contact with the Capitol — or, you know, Hollywood — she courted more danger, more scrutiny, more creepy older men — like Chris Martin — pawing at her. But through it all she kept her chin up, secure in her folksy dignity. Now that the “Hunger Games” series is done, Katniss is free to pursue a happy, quiet life away from the spotlight. But when will Jennifer Lawrence be able to do the same? Hasn’t she suffered enough, David O. Russell? NED EHRBAR

Fashion
Gale vs. Peeta Who holds your “Hunger Games” heart? It’s the ultimate debate for “Hunger Games” fans. Whom should Katniss choose?
In 2013, luxury e-retailer Net-A-Porter teamed up with costume designer Trish Summerville on a Capitol Couture line featuring adaptations of designs from the movies. But aspiring to dress like the ruling class is rather crass, so we propose a District 13 diffusion line of unisex, standard-issue wear that doesn’t oppress its maker or its wearer. NICHOLE JANKOWSKI
Theme park We didn’t make this one up: As if following the adventures of Katniss Everdeen didn’t come with enough ups and downs, fans will soon be able to take a reallife roller-coaster ride inspired by her train to the Capitol and a simulated hovercraft tour of Panem. Hunger Games theme park projects are planned in Dubai, China and the U.S. A re-creation of District 12 complete with costumed characters is in the works for the complex in Dubai. HENRIETTA WALMARK, METRO
Gale Hawthorne Pros: • Gale and Katniss have plenty in common: hunting, the great outdoors and knowing what it’s like to almost starve to death. • If Panem were a bit more peaceful he’d be the football star, the prom king. He’s the hot guy you want to show off to your friends. Cons: • He’s a “the-ends-justify-themeans” kind of guy, which isn’t the best thing if you’re prone to empathy. • Much like Katniss, he’s full of anger and vengeance — and two firecrackers is nothing but trouble in a relationship.
Peeta Mellark Pros: • He’s the baker’s son — plenty of carbs any time you like — as Katniss learns, that’s a good thing when you’re almost starving to death. • He’s kind and generous, risking his life to protect the people he loves. Cons: • Short and nonathletic — he’s dead weight when it comes to hunting and death battles. • The brainwashing and attempts to kill Katniss are romance killers. LIZ BROWN

When we speak, Ilana Glazer is a New Yorker in Los Angeles. Historically there has been great animosity between the coastal meccas. But the “Broad City” cocreator — talking to us about a bit part in the Christmas Eve comedy “The Night Before,” with Seth Rogen, Anthony Mackie and Joseph Gordon-Levitt — feels that rivalry is dying away. She even admits to looking forward to being bicoastal sometime soon, which might come as a shock to fans of her and Abbi Jacobson’s very New York-centric show. Glazer tells us about do-
ing her first big movie and reveals how “Broad City’s” third season, premiering February 17, will get more real — if that’s even possible. This is your first big movie. Did you spend a lot of time wandering around, seeing how everything works at that level of production? Because Abbi and I created “Broad City,” we oversee every single part of it. I know how it all works. I know the different departments. It’s interesting to not be in charge of it — that was the strangest part. It was interesting to not be the one giving all the answers. You learn how you want to do your own stuff and how you don’t want to do your own stuff. “Broad City” is such an institution now. How did that level of

awareness affect your approach to Season 3? With Season 2 we felt like we were finally able to root the characters. Season 1 was such an intro into this intricate world, and Season 2 had the world growing out. Season 3 has been a lovely continuation, going deeper and deeper into the world. It’s a little more real
this season. I’m excited about that. There are moments that are real and painful, real and sad. That realness heightens the comedy so much. I’m excited to see how it’s received, not only because I’m proud of it, but because I’m excited to see if people accept that level of sincerity in their “Broad City.” There’s a lot of serious writing about “Broad City” that says that underneath the jokes there’s a lot of commentary about city life and race and class. That’s true. It’s both intentional and not intentional. It becomes more true when people write that kind of stuff. It’s not just a completely farcical world. They do live within the real world and have real moments. We can write it and shoot it and edit it, but then the conversation is still going on when it goes out, after it’s aired. It’s collaborative. The audience makes the product too with their responses. I imagine it’s fascinating for artists to read interpretations of their work that see more in them

than their makers may have intended. It’s a magical feeling. It’s like someone knows you in a way you didn’t know yourself. At other times I meet people on the street who think they know me because of my character. I’m like, “No. You know that’s not really me?” It is and it isn’t.

To the movies You and Abbi are writing a movie that, interestingly, won’t star either of you. How has it been to write for a different medium and not for yourselves? The break from writing for myself is really rejuvenating,
for both of us. We’re working with Paul Feig and Jessie Henderson [director and producer of “Spy” and the new “Ghostbusters”] as partners, and they give us such amazing notes. It’s a pleasure — it’s a pleasure to get these notes. We’ve
learned so much. When you force yourself to write a movie, it’s super hard, because it’s so long. But it is so much fun. This industry is so flexible. You can do that. You can write for someone else. It’s a privilege to jump around in that way.

‘The Hunger Games’ goes out grim “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2” Director: Francis Lawrence Stars: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson Rating: PG-13
••••• MATT PRIGGE @mattprigge
matt.prigge@metro.us
Mark this as the moment when all the kids were nuts for a relentlessly grim march through the fog of war. “Mockingjay — Part 2,” the closer of the “Hunger Games” movie quadrilogy, is bleak, tough, rough, powerfully humorless and maybe even important. There’s little YA soap left. Our heroes, most of all mascot of the rebellion Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), are tired, hollowed-out, ready to die. No one can be trusted, not even the noble revolutionaries. Even the happy ending tastes so grossly fake that it seems like author Suzanne Collins just

threw in the towel and had mercy on her characters — the ones she let live, that is. Of course, a chapter this despairing only exists because the franchise slowly worked its way there, starting from riot grrrl-empowerment origins. It also exists because junk cinema is
treated like Ibsen now. For what it’s worth, Collins’ series deserves to be carefully considered. It’s very much a revolution saga for our era, when all seems lost, when all is questioned. It’s no surprise when certain lines — President Snow (Donald Sutherland) telling his subjects that our
heroes “are coming to destroy our way of life” — echo tragic events that happened just last weekend. And so “Mockingjay 2,” like “Mockingjay 1,” isn’t much of a popcorn movie, even when it’s half-pretending to be one. But it earns its bleakness and its pes-
simism, and if it works at all, it’s as a particularly steely form of melodrama, though not about whether Katniss will pick Peeta or Gale, a decision performed arbitrarily, as though via a coin toss. It’s been a study of one young woman’s predicament and one keenly expressive
actress’ face. Lawrence has brought a wounded humanity to Katniss, but she’s also someone whose face can fill a screen, doing very little but saying everything. Watching her, after some 10 hours of increasingly dour dystopia, has been more thrilling than any bit of ass-kicking.

••••• Seth Rogen is a ways into his 30s, far enough that he’s already made a few films about what it’s like to be a fun-loving goofball worried about getting old and mature. In fact, the shtick is already suffering from diminishing returns. The plaint in “The Night Before” isn’t as pronounced or as deeply felt as it was in “Neighbors,” in which Rogen played a new dad annoyed by how annoyed he’s become by young people partying

like he once did. Here, he’s an about-to-be dad vexed that he can no longer relate to a longtime friend (Joseph GordonLevitt) who’s still single, still underemployed and still sad. For nearly all of “The Night Before,” this anxiety is buried under an “Exodus”-sized tidal
wave of raunchy jokes, loopy jokes and jokes about prolific recreational drug use. Rogen’s Isaac heads out for the annual night on the town with Gordon-Levitt’s Ethan and Anthony Mackie’s Chris — perhaps their last time. It’s bittersweet, but it’s mostly raucous, reveling in graffitiing
the Christmas movie in gross-out gags, scenes of Rogen stuffing his head with shrooms and coke like he was at an eat-off and a running joke about d— pics. The sad part — including Ethan pining for an ex (Lizzy Caplan) he stupidly dumped — should be the heart. But it feels tepid and, worse, inevitably bound for a happy ending. That’s fine, as there are plenty of distractions. But there are so many of them that the very real but tepidly handled unease about getting older feels more like the real distraction. Whether or not the sad-sack guy will get the girl doesn’t stand a chance against a scene where Rogen vomits in a packed church while wearing a Star of David sweater. MP

High-heeled hilarity runs amok in ‘Casa Valentina’ At first, “Casa Valentina” promises to be a fun cross-dressing weekend. But there are bigger problems than broken heels threatening the group. NICK DUSSAULT @MetroBOS letters@metro.us
Politics, pornography and financial ruin all threaten the safe space George/Valentina (Thomas Derrah) and his seemingly saintly wife Rita (Kerry Dowling), have created for the hetero-normative gang.
Help and hope supposedly arrive from Charlotte (Will McGarrahan), a national leader in the transvestite underworld. But fear of being outed brings the frivolity to a screeching halt and homophobia rears its ugly head as the ladies vehemently distance themselves from the gay community. Though the story does take a heavy-handed turn that includes the rather obvious ascension of one of them into full-time womanhood, it’s an engaging production with enough Oscar Wilde references to more than compensate for its short-

comings. What keeps this from being merely funny, feelgood camp are the little moments that warm your heart and make you root for the ladies of the “Casa.” The blossoming of
Greg Mariao’s Miranda from frumpy librarian to pretty in pink is so sweet and believable you might actually start to think you see a beautiful princess on stage. You don’t. It’s a nervous first-timer who later flips out and closes
his suitcase forever in one of Maraio other impressive moments. Deb Martin has the smallest role yet the biggest impact in her turn as Eleanor, the daughter of one of the “ladies.” Her powerful rant about the
devastating effect this selfish, secret world has on their families feels like a cruel way to relegate the girls of “Casa Valentina” to the status of outsider, no matter how normal they may actually feel.

Week 11 filled with must-see matchups The 2015 season has been filled to the brim with injuries, demotions, promotions, etc. Never have we seen so many different players pass through the stat sheets. There are some key matchups that need to be at the top of your mind when you set your Week 11 lineup. Here are the important battles and how they could affect you.
Hopkins vs. Revis The New York Jets rank 9th in pass defense (230.3 ypg) and Darrelle Revis is a big part of that efficiency. Revis has three interceptions on the season, but more importantly, quarterbacks don’t often throw his way. With five games of over 20 FanDuel points on the season, you have to assume that even with an elite corner covering him, Hopkins will have a high floor in Week 11.
Watkins vs. Butler Historically, Sammy Watkins does not produce when he goes up against shutdown corners. Last week when he went up against CB Darrelle Revis, Watkins caught three passes for 14 yards. In Week 1 when he faced CB Vontae Davis he didn’t even log a catch. Stay away from Rex Ryan’s weapon this week.
Keenum vs. Ravens We have literally no idea as to what Case Keenum will look like as a starting QB for the Rams. He’s yet to play a snap in the regular season. The good news for Keenum is that he’s starting off as the team leader in the best matchup possible. The Ravens give up the 2nd most FanDuel points to opposing quarterbacks and the most to opposing wide receivers.
Raiders vs. Lions

KIMBREL TRADE WAS A HOME RUN FOR RED SOX OPINION
DANNY PICARD @dannypicard
There’s an exception to every rule. And you can consider Craig Kimbrel the exception to my philosophy that you don’t need to give up the farm or win a bidding war in order to acquire a relief pitcher. Last weekend, the Red Sox traded four prospects to the San Diego Padres, in exchange for Kimbrel, a four-time AllStar who turns 28 in May. Two of those prospects were considered top 10 in the Red Sox organization: center fielder Manuel Margot and shortstop Javier Guerra. Another was considered a top 15 prospect in lefty pitcher

ranks second all-time in MLB history among relievers with at least 200 save chances. And last June, he became the fastest player in MLB history to reach the 200-save plateau, in just 318 career games. Add that to the fact that he’s under contract for the next three seasons, and you’ve got an absolute steal if you’re the Red Sox. Because not only do you now have one of the best closers in baseball, you also still have that handful of young roster players, leaving the door open for another blockbuster trade for another dominant pitcher. Someone like a Jose Fernandez, or a Chris Sale, or a Sonny Gray. Miami, Chicago, Oakland; all of them would ask for a few young roster players in return, something the Padres did not get from the Red Sox in the Kimbrel deal. So there’s really nothing that makes me dislike the Kimbrel trade. In fact, I love it. Sure, it’s not how I would have necessarily drawn it up. But it doesn’t take a baseball historian to know that Kimbrel is an exception.

Logan Allen. The fourth, second-baseman Carlos Asuaje, I can’t even find on the list. Keep in mind that the only reason we’re talking about these players being “top prospects” is because the previous “top prospects” were called up to Boston in somewhat permanent roles on the big-league club last year. Those names include Henry Owens, Blake Swihart, Jackie Bradley Jr., etc. So to even say that the Red Sox “gave up the farm” to acquire one of the best closers in baseball, is a little absurd. But based on my own personal philosophy on how to build a successful bullpen, the idea of trading someone like Margot can certainly be questioned. However, like I said, there’s an exception to every rule. And in this case, the Red Sox didn’t just land a big name. They may have landed the best in the business. Since the start of his first full major league season in 2011, Kimbrel leads all MLB relievers in saves with 224 in 248. He has a 90.7 percent conversion rate in his career, which
