The United States deployed a B-52 bomber on a low-level flight over its ally South Korea on Sunday, a show of force following North Korea’s nuclear test last week. President Barack Obama will make good on a promise to close the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, his chief of staff, Denis McDonough said on “Fox News Sunday.” Obama will first present a long-awaited plan to Congress about how to close the facility, and seek its approval, McDonough said in an interview. If Congress fails to act, the White House will determine what steps to take, he said. “He feels an obligation to the next president. He will fix this so that they don’t have to be confronted with the same set of challenges,” McDonough said. REUTERS

An unattended candle was to blame for a three-alarm fire in Jamaica Plain on Saturday night that forced the evacuation of a 15-unit apartment building at 560 Centre Street, fire officials said. Although smoke quickly filled the building, the blaze — which began just after 10 p.m. — was contained to a single apartment on the first floor, according to Boston Fire Department. SPENCER BUELL
CORPORATE PROFITS

Wall Street’s fourth-quarter earnings season that gets underway next week could confirm something many investors may not want to hear: The U.S. economy may be doing well but corporate profits are in a recession. An earnings recession — two quarters of declining profits — would be led by the usual suspects, energy and materials companies. But its severity may depend on consumer discretionary companies, which have been warning about profits at an unusual pace. REUTERS

Gov: $50M budget cut Mass. wins big Gov. Charlie Baker cut spending by $50 million as part of a $320 million budget fix. On Friday, Gov. Charlie Baker slashed nearly $50 million from the state budget to partially close what his administration identified as a $320 million gap between projected spending and revenues through end of the fiscal year. The emergency budget cuts, which come almost exactly at the halfway point in the fiscal year, hit a variety of agencies and departments, with one of the largest reductions being a $10 million cut at MassHealth for infrastructure and capacity building grants to small and midsize hospitals for cost containment and quality improvement. The MassHealth cut also means the state will forfeit about $5 million in federal reimburse-

ments associated with those payments. Other agencies and programs saw their budgets cut as the administration took advantage of “fuel savings” related to the falling price of oil and gas that has reduced transportation and heating expenses for state facilities and vehicles.
The state police had $3.6 million trimmed from its budget alone due to cheaper gas and administrative reductions. In order to close the remainder of the budget gap, Administration and Finance Secretary Kristen Lepore said the administration planned to rely on additional non-
tax revenues and the projected strength of the tax revenue collections over the next six months. With tax revenues currently sitting at $114 million above benchmarks through December, Lepore said she planned to revise upward the fiscal 2016 revenue projection next week, though he did not indicate by how much. Lepore identified roughly $56 million in new, non-tax revenues from other sources to help plug the budget hole, including $23 million from abandoned or unclaimed property as well as additional federal reimbursements. “We are taking corrective action today to ensure we remain on target for a balanced budget in FY 2016. Today’s corrections do not raise taxes or fees and will not affect the state’s ability to deliver core services,” Lepore said. STATE HOUSE NEWS SERVICE
at Powerball No one has won the quickly soaring national Powerball jackpot, but a few smaller winners — including one lucky Bostonian — have netted smaller prizes. One such winner scored a $1 million payout from a ticket bought at the Clarendon Wine Co., according to lottery officials. That was just a slice of what they could have won: The top prize for the latest drawing was just shy of $948 million. The prize for the next drawing on Wednesday is set to reach an estimated $1.3 billion, the biggest ever. Proceeds from those $2 tickets, a soonto-be gateway for one winner to enormous riches, are also flowing into Massachusetts’ coffers. By Friday, the day before the latest draw-
ing, Lottery officials told the State House News Service that Powerball sales had netted the state about $12.6 million in local aid since the game crowned its last winner on Nov. 4. A Lottery official told the News Service that once December revenue numbers are finalized, the month is expected to show an increase over December 2014, and January’s revenue total will likely reflect a “considerable increase” over January 2015 as a result of the record jackpot. For every dollar of Powerball sales, 50 cents is put back into the prize pool, 42 cents is returned to the state, 6 cents is used to pay sales commissions and bonuses, and 2 cents covers administrative costs associated with the game, according to the Lottery. Boston times a million
An MIT student logs thousands of Boston skyline photos over five years. SPENCER BUELL @MetroBOS
spencer.buell@metro.us
Over the last five years or so, MIT doctoral candidate and photography hobbyist Adrian Dalca has been slowly amassing a massive trove of photos of Boston — all from his 22nd-floor perch on Wadsworth Street in Cambridge, with its enviable panoramic view of the city’s skylines. Soon, the 30-year-old from Toronto plans to release every piece of his 4-5 terabytes of pictures for worldwide dissection — free to sort, study, pick apart and repurpose — in an experiment he’s calling The Boston Timescape Project. He’s captured thousands upon thousands of the city’s fleeting moments from above: a violent lightning storm, a double rainbow, clouds of smoke from transistor fires, adventurers navigating the post-flurry city on skis. Far from just a big

data art project, though, Dalca believes his collection of identical pictures, released into the wilds of scientific research, could fuel anything from cellphone camera improvements to weather prediction technology. “You can actually do an awful lot,” Dalca said in an interview with Metro. “There are more scientific questions you can answer with a lot of data, which you couldn’t do if you only had a few images. You need a lot of images to really study something.”
His pictures, he said, could fuel the newly expanding field of computer vision — making computers smarter about analyzing pictures they see by, for example, guessing the temperature or predicting weather, gauging air quality or monitoring the tides, all from cameras suctioncupped to a window, quietly snapping away at the same subject again and again and again. Algorithms derived from matching the images taken with his high-powered SLR, and his pair of decidedly less high-powered GoPros, he said, could help computers learn to make fuzzy, flat pictures look sharper and brighter. Dalca tends to his rig of equipment the way others might a highmaintenance plant, or a high-tech lobster trap — checking on it every

few days, sometimes for 10 or 20 minutes at a time, tweaking the settings, angling the lenses just so and downloading the day’s catches, slowly filling up external harddrives with sunrises and sunsets, clear nights and foggy afternoons. In the Timescape files are curious snapshots of city life, natural and otherwise. His automated cameras have watched snow rest on a thinly iced Charles River, then disappear, captured several rounds of holiday fireworks, spotted the many cranes come up among the skyscrapers, then come down. They’ve also spotted people ambling on

a fully iced Charles as it started to break, “straddling the cracks.” “There are these moments when I have pictures I think are really nice,” he said, but sometimes, “I have 1,000 photos of Boston at night where the only thing that happens is the planes take off and you see their trail and that’s all that happens.” As far as he knows, no one else has taken so many pictures of a city skyline in such high quality over such a long period of time. Those looking to get their hands on chunks of his data can contact him and request it. He’s agreed to let anyone
print off any picture that’s to their liking — as long as it’s for research or personal consumption. Eventually, he hopes to make all of it available on an open-source basis by hosting it on MIT’s servers. It’s not like anyone with the equipment and time, and a killer view, couldn’t do what Dalca has done on their own — they could. “It just so happens that they don’t,” he said. “If you put your mind to it, really, you could do it.” Soon, someone else will have to, or his project will come to an end. Dalca, a medical imaging specialist, plans to finish his Ph.D. sometime this year, at which point he’ll be leaving for good the MIT-owned apartment he scoped out specifically for its uncommonly good sight line. He’s considered asking neighbors to let him set up shop in their windows, or at least inviting them to submit their own photos to his collection online. His dream: permanent access to the higher-up view on his apartment building’s roof, or to the penthouse on the 26th floor. For now, he’s just enjoying the last few months at The Boston Timescape’s helm, his cameras primed to watch as this year’s sluggish winter rolls into Boston. “There is probably no better vantage point than from where we’re standing,” he said.

BOLARIS’ WEATHER WATCH: A WINTER SMACKDOWN Bolaris’ Weather Watch
My weekly potential storm time periods to watch:
JOHN BOLARIS @weathersavior
The winter to date in the Northeast has been one of the mildest on record, thanks to the Godzilla El Niño that has been acting like a blowtorch and blowing moist Pacific air this way at the same time, pretty much keeping arctic intrusions north of the border. However, if you watched Sunday’s Seahawks-Vikings playoff game, you might have noticed the frozen tundra with the mercury hanging around zero. A chunk of that arctic blast will be felt all across the Northeast on Wednesday, although it will not be as bitter, it will still feel brutally cold, as our bodies are far from acclimated to the cold this season — and, as former Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell posited,

France pays tribute to 2015 terrorism victims in silent ceremony France honored the victims of Islamist militant attacks last year in a thinly attended silent ceremony on Sunday, almost a year to the day when more than a million people marched in Paris to protest killings at the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. President Francois Hollande and Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo laid a wreath by the statue of Marianne, symbol of the French republic, in central Paris. The statue has become a shrine to the 17 victims of the January 2015 attacks on Charlie Hebdo and a Jewish deli, and to the 130 people shot dead by militants on Nov. 13 at a concert, and in bars and restaurants in Paris. “To the victims of the terrorist attacks in January and November. … In this place, the people of France pay their respect,” read a metal plaque unveiled

by Hollande and Hidalgo under a newly planted memorial oak tree on Place de la Republique in eastern Paris. Neither Hollande or Hidalgo spoke at the ceremony, but veteran French rock star Johnny Hallyday, accompanied only by a guitar, sang a song about the march on Jan. 11 last year, which brought out the biggest crowds in Paris since the liberation of
Paris from Nazi Germany in 1944. The French army choir sang late Belgian singer Jacques Brel’s “Les Prenoms de Paris” (the First Names of Paris) and “Le temps des cerises,” a song associated with the socialist Paris commune movement in 1871, while two young actors read a speech by 19th century writer Victor Hugo. A flatulent Sean Penn helped bring down El Chapo Sean Penn went to Mexico to interview notorious drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman for Rolling Stone. This story has everything: a secluded jungle clearing, fear for the safety of his private parts, a moment where Penn lets some “minor traveler’s flatulence” slip out. But the best part of the story isn’t even in the interview: It turns out the notoriously humorless actor’s brazen attempt at gonzo journalism actually
helped authorities recapture Guzman, so … well done? But one thing is clear: Results or not, Penn has demonstrated that he’s a terrible journalist. He totally makes the story about him. Never make the story about you! Then, he let his interviewee go over the finished story for approval. And he forgot to bring a pen and paper so he had to write all the answers from memory. How could you forget a pen, Sean? It’s right there in your name!
If the behindthe-scenes stories from the upcoming “Absolutely Fabulous” movie are any indication, it’s going to be a riot. Apparently the film’s stars — and the crew, which is even better — were getting a little too into character while filming in the south of France. “Cast and crew were acting like
Patsy and Edina. There was lots and lots of partying,” a source tells the Mirror. “It was getting so out of hand that producers had to remind everyone that while they didn’t mind them drinking after the cameras stopped rolling, during filming was a big no-no.” Way to be a buzz-kill, producers. Sheesh.

Justin Bieber’s Mexican playdate ruined Sean Penn isn’t the only celebrity whose Mexican exploits are making headlines. I’m starting to think Justin Bieber’s whole reformed bad boy thing isn’t going to stick, because he’s in some very familiar trouble again — namely upsetting officials in a Latin American country for improper activities around historic landmarks. Bieber — who is probably the only person who put the new “Point Break” on his best of 2015 list — got scolded in Mexico for trying to climb onto or
among the ruins at the Mayan archeological site of Tulum, according to ABC News. An unnamed source from the National Institute of Anthropology and History says that Bieber and his entourage were “asked to leave” after the incident, which should be a familiar feeling for them by now. Bieber ran into similar trouble in Brazil in 2013 when he tried to practice his mad graffiti skills on a building that was actually a historic landmark. At least now he’s just trying to do parkour.

Winter TV preview All the shows worth watching while it’s freezing outside. NED EHRBAR @Nedrick
ned.ehrbar@metro.us
It’s so cold out, why would you go outside? Besides, there’s so much new TV to watch. Here’s our guide to which new and returning shows will keep you cozy and entertained this winter.
GENRE HEAVYWEIGHTS
The X-Files (Jan. 24, Fox) You want to believe, and soon you’ll be able to again, as Mulder and Scully return for six weeks of classic conspiracy and alien-hunting. Plus they’ve added in “Community star Joel McHale as a smarmy cable news host to mix things up, and mix things up he does.
The Walking Dead (Feb. 14, AMC) Rick and his not-so-merry band of zombie apocalypse survivors have a very special Valentine’s planned for you. The most popular series on television returns with the introduction of Negan, the biggest of its big bads. This is going to get messy.
Agent Carter (Jan. 19, ABC) Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Mulder (David Duchovny) haven’t aged. FOX
Captain America’s girlfriend charmed the pants o us last winter in her limited run, and this year she’s upped the stakes, heading west to Los Angeles for some classic late-1940s capers. HIPSTER HUMOR

Broad City (Feb. 17, Comedy Central) Speaking of hilarious young women in New York, Comedy Central’s sleepy stoner hit is back this winter, too, and if you haven’t been watching, now is a great time to pick up the habit.
Girls (Feb. 21, HBO)
Love (Feb. 19, Netflix)
Get your Hannah and Co. follies while you can, because rumor has it that next year (the sixth season of the show) will be its last. Good thing this is the ďŹ fth season, though, right? And that leaves plenty of time for the gals to not really learn any important lessons.
People complain that Judd Apatow’s movies are too long, so instead he’s doing a series for Netix all about, well, love. But if you happen to think his movies actually aren’t long enough, nothing’s stopping you from watching all of this in one sitting. Enjoy!

You know you’re already watching it. But get ready for sweet, unsuspecting Bachelor Ben and the various women of varying levels of crazy vying for his rose — hey there, chicken enthusiast! — to hit the road, because this season does not feel like sitting still. Wonder how many contestants will mysteriously miss their ights.
The Amazing Race (Feb. 12, CBS) If you must watch a reality show, at least make it one of the best, like the Emmy favorite race around the world, which somehow never gets old. And it’s just plain better for you than the 31st (yes, you read that right) installment of “Survivor.

Hilarious, trash-talking ‘Teachers’ heading to TV Land Stars Kate Lambert and Katy Colloton on kids these days. RACHEL RACZKA @rachelraczka

Chic sweaters by Boston’s The Third Piece.
Alison Brie-produced show “Teachers” airs Jan. 13, but before it went to TV Land, it was a product of the Katydids, a six-member improv group that introduced the concept as a web series. The cable network version of the comedy is naturally slicker, but the hilarity of juxtaposition — foulmouthed, hard-partying 20- and 30-somethings in charge of shaping the minds of a Midwestern elementary school — still rings true. We chatted with Kate Lambert, 34, and Katy Colloton, 33, who both incidentally have childhood area ties: Colloton attended Longmeadow’s Blueberry Hill Elementary, and Lambert’s family is from the Cape — ahead of the premiere. Did you interview any real teachers in preparation for the series? Lambert: We have a teacher in the group. Catherine Barlow was a teacher of fourth grade, so she’s a source of many stories.

The series is pretty rowdy. What do you think teachers will think of the show? Colloton: We hope they watch the show so they can see us doing all the things they wish they could say and do. There’s something unique about being a teacher, because when you’re a 20-something at work, you expect that you’re going to mess up and make mistakes all the time, but when you’re a teacher, a parent or a school board isn’t going to be lenient or understanding. We hope they can relate, and say “That’s my co-worker” or “That’s the nightmare parent.” And elementary school students these days are so different than they
were when we were growing up. Colloton: Technology is so different than when we went to school. We explored that on the show in an episode about a teacher sending a tweet, and the idea that your privacy is universal to everyone right now. Like if you put something on Facebook, you could definitely get in trouble. But the No. 1 difference to us is that kids — even the kids on the set — have an iPad or an iPhone all the time, and they’re so tuned in. I felt like a grandma. Obviously you must have had a lot of child actors on set. What was that like? Colloton: We were lucky we had really good kids

who were really professional — sometimes more than us. Some have been working for six or seven years so they have more credits than me. Lambert: They’ve already got their SAG cards. What would you teach if you were actual teachers? Lambert: Since elementary school is a little bit of everything, I would probably go the art or drama route. Colloton: Like my character, I’m really bad with discipline so I’d just be a librarian, or someone not in charge of a whole classroom. I always thought that was a pretty great job at school, like, if anyone’s a problem, you could just watch them shuffle away in 45 minutes.
Boston (and, well, the rest of the country) is still down with the millennial “granny” trend — embracing owning more than one cat, making your own jam and going to bed at a sensible hour on a Friday night. An undying love of sweaters — the making and buying of — also falls into this category, and we, as a city, are lucky enough to call some hot young knit designers our own. Among them: The Third Piece, founded by Bostonians Carina Donoso, 29, and Kristin Lambert, 32, after meeting at the gym. (Who knew!) They make awesome, superplush sweaters, scarves and accessories from their own house-brand merino yarn, Funky Chunky. Their luxury goodies have been picked up by the likes of Bergdorf Goodman and Shopbop, but they’re branching out on their own with a con-
ceptual pop-up location at the Street in Chestnut Hill. The temporary space will sell a range of their line, including Funky Chunky yarn, and will also host knitting workshops and private sessions, for the novice and experienced. “[The pop-up] will be introducing our true business model, which is ‘made by us or made by you.’” says Donoso. While Donoso has been knitting since she was 13, she says it’s never too late to learn. She showed Lambert her way around a set of knitting needles as an adult. “It’s empowering to know how to do something skillful,” she says. “And I think it’s important for people the full transparency of how garments are made.” The Third Piece pop-up is open through Jan. 13 at The Street, 7 Boylston St., Chestnut Hill. Losing a job can leave you down in the dumps — or it can inspire you to finally make a much-needed change. If you’ve been handed the pink slip, heed this advice from LinkedIn career expert Catherine Fisher.
Before you walk out the door Make sure you leave with your dignity intact, Fisher recommends. “How you say goodbye to people will leave a lasting impression, she cautions. And don’t be shy about telling your now-former coworkers that you may reach out to them in the future. Who knows
— one of them could end up helping you find your next position.
Be careful on social media If you’re bitter about the loss, don’t let it show in your Facebook and Twitter posts, Fisher advises. But there’s no harm in saying that you’re looking to make a transition and that you welcome advice. “Be mindful of the message you want to get across, the expert advises.
Envision what you want Now that you no longer have to keep up with the daily grind, use your free time to think about your goals. You may find a new job — or career — that excites you more than the previous one did. “Change is usually good, Fisher says.
Update your LinkedIn profile Include anything and everything that’ll set you apart. Add that volunteer experience — one survey found that many hiring managers view it as equivalent to work experience when evaluating a candidate. If you’ve got a special skill that keeps popping up on job descriptions, throw that in there so recruiters can easily spot you. And make sure you have a picture — profiles with photos are 14 times more likely to be viewed than those without.
Network right Don’t reach out to people asking to “pick their brain. Make your intentions clear from that initial email — are you looking for advice? Insight into a particular company? Then ask what’s best for their
schedule — coffee? Lunch? Just a few minutes on the phone? “You want to make it easy for people, Fisher says. If you’re meeting outside the office, it’s nice to pick up the other person’s tab. And always send a thankyou note.
Have an active presence online Posting to LinkedIn — and commenting on others’ posts — is a great way to stay top of mind, Fisher says.
Don’t get discouraged Job hunting can be a challenge, but “you’ve got to keep your foot on the gas pedal, Fisher says. “Keep working your network and learning about what’s going on in the industry. Everyone goes through a career transition at one point or another.

Core college classes that pay off
You may be antsy to dive right into your major, but don’t roll your eyes at these required classes — they’re designed to help you grow. MEREDITH ENGEL @MetroBOS letters@metro.us
While college is a time of self-discovery, there are certain courses everyone can benefit from. General education requirements “give you breadth of knowledge, whereas a major gives you depth of knowledge, says Richard J. Gatteau, associate provost for academic success at New York’s Stony Brook University.
Writing To lay the foundation for the next four years, you’ll need to know how to write “even if you’re an engineering major, says Paul Marchese, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Queensborough Community College. You may not be drafting essays on Chaucer after graduation, but you’ll surely be writing — even if it’s just emails — once you hit the real world.
Foreign language “The world is getting smaller, says Gatteau. You’ll need to know at least a hint of another language to keep up in our ever-connected world. In addition to the practical skill set

you’ll develop, a foreign language “gets you outside of your psychological comfort zone and expands your worldview, adds Marchese.

Math Groan all you want, but math opens up your mind. “The reason why you take math is not so much because of the content itself, but just to teach you a different way of thinking, Marchese says.

Science No matter the branch, learning the scientific method teaches “that there are certain laws that govern the universe, and there’s a process we can follow to find out what those laws are, Marchese

Considering that, up un-
til college, you’ve been handed your curriculum, it can be daunting to choose it on your own, Gatteau says. But if you have a hole in your schedule, look for what excites you. “It might be a drawing class, an acting class, Gatteau says. “You never know what you might discover. Marchese seconds the acting class idea — think of it as a fun way to learn communication and hone your public speaking strategies.

THE 2014 CHIEFS GAME DOESN’T MATTER MUCH On the list of scenarios the Patriots could have encountered coming out of this past weekend, the one they got is the worst. No, the Chiefs aren’t world-beaters, and the Patriots will be favored when they host KC this coming Saturday (4:35 p.m., CBS). But because a couple of Bengals players used Manziellike judgment in the final few minutes this past Saturday night, the Patriots will be playing a team in five days that beat them like a drum, 41-14, the last time they met. “The Chiefs game made for a neat turning point chapter in the Patriots’ 2014 championship DVD. The Pats used that blowout loss as fuel, they said, and it was a reminder of everything that can go wrong during the course of a football game. But fuel can be a little overrated. I’ll bet that Malcolm Butler wasn’t thinking about that dark night at Arrowhead just before he

made that interception against the Seahawks. I’ll bet Tom Brady wasn’t thinking about that pick-6 he threw to Husain Abdullah in “The Chiefs game on Super Bowl Sunday against Seattle. There are lessons to take away from “The Chiefs game, for sure. But the fact of the mat-
ter is, that game was 468 days ago. What the Chiefs did against the Texans in Houston this past Saturday and what the Patriots did not do against the Dolphins eight days ago is much more relevant when talking about this upcoming divisional showdown in Foxboro. Pro football these days changes from hourto-hour and day-to-day, nevermind year-to-year, and the Chiefs are a much different team today than they were on Sept. 29, 2014. In fact, Kansas City is a much different team today than it was on Sept. 29, 2015. This is a team that lost five straight games early on this season. Their featured running back today, Charcandrick West, did not even have one NFL carry to his name until Oct. 4, 2015. Their quarterback, Alex Smith, went an unreal 659 days without throwing a touchdown pass to a wide receiver — a

streak that was broken in late September. The man who caught that touchdown pass, Jeremy Maclin, ended up catching eight touchdowns from Smith during the regular season and was Kansas City’s leading receiver in 2015 — with 87 grabs for 1,088 yards. In an effort to show just how much things can change, Maclin was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles on the night of “The Chiefs game. He was Smith’s biggest offensive weapon heading into last Saturday night’s game against the Texans. It was thought he might miss the rest of the playoffs late Saturday night when it was feared he might have torn an ACL. On Sunday afternoon, it was said he suffered a high ankle sprain and that he is “questionable against the Patriots. Tomorrow, he’ll probably be “probable. Relying on past information to predict the future is what we do. I get that. It would be mighty easy to predict that Tom
Brady will perform well in this coming Saturday’s game, just as it would be easy to predict that Andy Reid will all of a sudden think that there are 50 seconds in a minute (he doesn’t manage clocks very well if you hadn’t heard). But the Patriots are the most unpredictable team in the history of sports this time of year (no one thought much of Danny Amendola one year ago and LeGarrette Blount two years ago) and the Chiefs will undoubtedly be vague about Maclin this week. They will also not provide an answer as to why Spencer Ware carried the ball 16 times against Houston and why West carried it just eight times. This league changes on the fly (Tom Coughlin coached against the Eagles eight days ago, and Monday he’ll interview with them in hopes of becoming their new leader), and we are just now entering strange season. It’s time to get weird. Enjoy it.

NFL playoffs open in wild fashion The NFL’s Wild Card weekend lived up to its name both Saturday and Sunday as all four playoff road teams captured victories. In what would wind up as a 10-9 victory for the defending NFC Champion Seahawks, the minus-4 degree temperatures in Minnesota made for some offensive shortcomings, as Seattle’s entire 10-point total came in the fourth quarter. Leading by a single score after the Vikings posted three field goals earlier in the game, Minnesota’s Blair Walsh missed a 27-yard chip shot that would have put his team ahead in the waning seconds of the game. A long pass-interference call on Kam Chancellor and a few short gains put the Vikings in the red zone, allowing them to drain a little clock. Victory looked inevitable before the typically routine field goal was hooked. Seattle’s touchdown came on a Russell Wilson pass to Doug Baldwin, and the team followed it up by turning an Adrian Peterson fumble into another three points. The Seahawks will

Against Washington, the Packers played as though they were playing possum for the final month-and-ahalf of the regular season. Aaron Rodgers looked like his old self as he was an efficient 21-of-36 passing for 210 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions. Davante Adams and Randall Cobb had the touchdown grabs for Green Bay and Eddie Lacy and James Starks combined for over 100 yards rushing. The divisional round in the AFC was set on Saturday when the Chiefs slammed the Texans in Houston, 30-0. The Steelers took advantage of mental errors by Cincinnati late in the game to take down the Bengals, 18-16. The No. 2-seeded Patriots will host the No. 5-seeded Chiefs this coming Saturday (4:35 p.m., CBS). The No. 1-seeded Broncos will host the No. 6-seeded Steelers on Sunday (4:30 p.m., CBS).
