One firefighter and two residents were injured in a four-alarm blaze at 130 Babson Street in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood Monday, according to tweets from the Boston Fire Department. Fire crews responded to the 2½-story wooden home and dentist’s office just after 4 p.m. Two people who were inside the house were treated at the scene, the department tweeted, but the nature of their injuries has not been made public. The wounded firefighter suffered an “orthopedic injury” that was described in a tweet as non-life threatening. The department tweeted Monday night that officials believe a piece of dental equipment caused the fire, and that damages have been estimated at $500,000.

A fire that broke out early Monday morning in Gloucester has taken the life of one man, CBS Boston reported. When firefighters arrived at the scene around 3:40 a.m. at East Main and Hammond streets, flames were reportedly blooming out of the second floor windows. Firefighters reportedly attempted to make it to the second floor, but the flames were too intense. The body of a man was later found in the building. How to beat the South Station chess grandmaster Prepare to test your skills against Larry Christiansen at noon today. SPENCER BUELL @MetroBOS

spencer.buell@metro.us

To put it simply, beating Larry Christiansen at chess is very, very hard. The three-time U.S. champion has been studying the game for

his entire life, building his skills to superhuman levels and earning himself the coveted title “grandmaster.” But once a month, the decorated chess spokesman, self-styled historian and mentor to competitive players gives a crowd of amateurs the chance to square off with him at South Station, where he plays about two-dozen games at a time in what’s called a simultaneous

exhibition, or “simul.” He wins almost always. “I lose maybe one out of 100 games. It does happen,” Christiansen said in an interview. “Lightning strikes and I lose.” The Cambridge resident’s next “simul” is scheduled for Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m. It’s sponsored by the Boylston Chess Club, and winners get a small BCC gift certificate to go with their bragging rights.

Sleep in

So what can you do to increase your chances of beating him on Tuesday? We asked. Here’s what he said.

The worst thing if you’re going to play chess is a sleep deficit. Being drunk would be second-worst.

Cheat You could probably get on the phone or get on the iPad and use computeraided assistance, and that I’d have big trouble with. That’s actually happened. But I’ve not called people out on that. There’s a computer engine called Fritz. I’ll say, “Send my regards to Fritz.” I’m pretty easy-going about it.

Don’t let him get away with mistakes Another way might be to be very, very observant. Never take anything for granted. I can make blunders like anybody because I’m moving so fast. If you win a rook or a queen, it’s very hard for me to make a comeback. If they’re very observant they can notch a win that way. It’s rare, but that’s one way to do it.

Be aggressive Do not be passive. You want to be aggressive against a strong player. A strong player’s sense for weakness is kind of like a dog’s. If you play “Mr. Passive,” we welcome that. You want to be aggressive on a chessboard. You don’t want to cower and play timidly. You want to go out there and try to mess me up a bit.

Skip lunch Don’t eat or drink heavily during a game. It slows the brain down. Having a giant meal,

Do some reading

“The worst thing if you’re going to play chess is a sleep deficit. Being drunk would be second-worst.” Christiansen

that always slows people down. It probably lowers their strength 100 points (note from the reporter: chess players measure their skill level by using a formula that spits out a number based on how well they play. Christiansen’s is about 2670. Yours is much lower). Also, don’t make too many visits to the bathroom — that can be distracting. Probably a couple cups of coffee, though, to be alert.

Sip some suds Maybe it’s a little too early in the day, but one or two beers can lessen your anxiety level or fear level and for some people that works pretty well. If you calm down a bit the fear kind of goes away and that’s very helpful on a chessboard. On the other hand, your calculating ability will go down a bit.

They might go to a good general chess website. There are dozens. ChessClub.com [ChessClub. com pays him for gigs], ChessBase.com, Chess. com, ChessGames.com.

Suspect the worst Never play Captain Obvious. Captain Obvious loses on the chessboard. Suspect a dirty trick. If I make a move, don’t bite. If I offer a pawn it’s usually poisoned or tainted. If it looks like I made a blunder, check or doublecheck. It’s usually a dirty trick. Always assume your opponent is a liar on the chessboard. But after the game you shake hands. The guy who sweeps the pieces off the board and runs away to huff and puff and call you names usually doesn’t stay with the game too long.

Take advantage of his kindness I don’t know how strong [opponents] are and I play a little too free and easy. I make it pretty easy on them. I let them pass if they don’t have a move ready and wait for my next walk around the square. I play very unsound-type chess openings. I’m giving pieces away, basically, and giving them a chance to beat me. Still, it’s not too often that I lose. I’m not bringing my A game, let’s put it that way.

BRIEFS Michael McCarthy held without bail, claims Rachelle Bond killed Baby Bella Michael McCarthy, the man accused of beating 2-yearold Bella Bond to death, was held without bail in Suffolk Superior Court Monday on first-degree murder charges. McCarthy maintained through his lawyer that he knew nothing about Bella’s death and disappearance, claiming that he was under the impression that DCF had taken Bella from her mother, Rachelle Bond. “He had nothing to do with her death,” defense attorney Jonathan Shapiro said. “There’s no forensic evidence, there’s no DNA, there’s no hair, there’s no nothing.” Rachelle Bond and Michael McCarthy both have pleaded not guilty in the death of Bella Bond and the disposal of her body, claiming that the other is responsible. Shapiro argued that McCarthy should have a “reasonable bail” of less than $100,000 because of the “evident weakness” of the commonwealth’s case. LA police chief seeks charges against officer in shooting death The case follows a series of killings of unarmed black men by police. Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck has called for an officer to be criminally charged for the fatal shooting of an unarmed homeless man, a spokeswoman for the mayor said Monday, after the chief found the officer’s life did not appear to be endangered. The May 5, 2015, shooting of Brendon Glenn led to accusations against Los Angeles police by community members who said it was unjustified. Glenn was African-American, and so is officer Clifford Proctor, the policeman who shot him. Police have said the shooting came after two police officers responded to a report of a person harassing customers outside a restaurant in the beachside Venice neighborhood. A short time later, they saw Glenn struggling with a person and tried to de-

tain him. A physical altercation ensued, and Proctor shot Glenn to death, police said. Chief Beck said days later he had not seen evidence to justify the shooting death of the unarmed man. Beck has made a rec-

ommendation to Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey that criminal charges be filed against Proctor, said Connie Llanos, a spokeswoman for the city’s mayor. Mayor Eric Garcetti in a statement said he hoped Beck’s recommendation is

“considered with the utmost gravity.” “No one is above the law, and whenever use of force crosses the line, it is our obligation to make sure that principle is upheld,” Garcetti said. Investigators found Glenn, 29, was on his stomach and attempting to push himself up from the ground when Proctor stepped back and shot him twice, Beck told the Los Angeles Times newspaper. The chief, who was appointed to the position in 2009, told the newspaper it was the first time he had recommended criminal charges against an officer for shooting a person to death. Larry Hannah, an attorney for Proctor, could not immediately be reached. But he told the L.A. Times that Proctor saw Glenn make a move for his partner’s gun. Video of the scene and eyewitness accounts do not support Proctor’s claim, Beck told the paper. REUTERS

Uber pushes into public transit with new app partnership Transportation technology company TransLoc announced Monday a partnership with Uber, marking a significant advancement in the ridehailing company’s effort to ally itself with public transit agencies. TransLoc, which builds technology products for public transit passengers and agencies, will integrate Uber into the TransLoc Rider app, a smartphone application that provides real-time bus tracking and route planning. San Francisco-based Uber’s app allows passengers to order on-demand rides from their smartphones.

The integration will allow passengers to plan trips that combine public transportation with Uber rides and walking, TransLoc officials said. The idea is to offer Uber as a way for passengers to get from home to a transit stop, and from transit stops to their destinations. Public transit agencies lose many potential riders because they lack options getting to or from the bus or train stop, TransLoc said. “Such partnerships will enhance the attractiveness of public transportation,” Michael Melaniphy, president and chief executive of the

American Public Transportation Association, said in a statement. Uber and ride-hailing competitor Lyft have been working to find allies among public transit agencies, recognizing that if they are to be truly cheaper than car ownership as each company has touted it

is, they must be used in combination with public transit. A transportation study by the statistical analysis media site FiveThirtyEight showed that completing 85 percent of trips on public transit and 15 percent with Uber roughly equaled the cost of car ownership. REUTERS

GOSSIP

Katy Perry is on the prowl The Golden Globes reminded us that our hearts will always go on for Kate Winslet and Leo DiCaprio. But the afterparties also gave us a possible new real-life couple to gossip about. Singer Katy Perry caught the eye of, well, everyone, in her plunging blush-colored Prada dress, but it was Orlando Bloom who got her attention. According to the Daily Mail, she made the first move at the Weinstein Company/Netflix soiree. The pair then got cozy in a private corner of the party tent, and he charmed his way into being her +1 for the Fox after-afterparty. Perry, 31, has a taste for darkhaired men — she married professional instigator Russell Brand in 2010, but the relationship lasted just 14 months. (She’s also never totally on or off John Mayer.) Bloom isn’t exactly baggage-free either, living across the street from his ex-wife, Miranda Kerr, and son Flynn, 5. Could there be a more awkward walk of shame?

He’s got the hair, the stage presence and the flocks of female fans. There’s just one small problem with Harry Styles’ plan to become a solo artist after One Direction went on indefinite hiatus: his voice. “People may find it funny Harry needs singing lessons ahead of a solo career, but it’s pretty standard practice,” a source tells Britain’s The Sun. Apparently, spending five years as part of the biggest boy band in the world wasn’t enough? Snark aside, Styles, 21, is not the first boy band member who needed a little polish. It took some time for Lance Bass to keep up with J. Timberlake’s popping and locking in *NSYNC. And the vocal coach, Ron Anderson, counts no less than Adele among his clients. No shame in learning from the best.

@IggyPop David’s friendship was the light of my life. I never met such a brilliant person. He was the best there is.

Scott Eastwood, Miles Teller, Blake Jenner, Emory Cohen and Logan Lerman. In our opinion, they all seem a little too squeaky clean to play the man who grows up to have shootouts in space bars, but so far there’s no reason to doubt Disney when it comes to finding new talent for this franchise. And you won’t even have to wait until the movie comes out in May 2018 — Variety’s sources say the early casting has to do with Han Solo making a cameo in the upcoming pre“A New Hope” movie, “Star Wars: Rogue One.”

Oscar Isaac was never yours, Internet Sad news for those hoping to chat up “Star Wars” space pilot Oscar Isaac the next time you were both at the same cantina: He’s been off the market for a long time. Last night at the Golden Globes, Isaac celebrated his win for Best Actor in HBO’s miniseries “Show Me a Hero” by sharing a screen-worthy kiss with a woman at his table. She turns out to be Maria Miranda, who

is something between his girlfriend and wife, depending on which speculative gossip story you believe. Isaac himself is almost entirely silent on the subject of his personal life. The Internet’s new boyfriend seemed to remember his adoring public backstage, when he offered his phone number to anyone who wants to discuss “Star Wars.” It’s not exactly pillow talk, but we’ll take it.

“TRAINING DAY”

Sadness and puppet sex Charlie Kaufman talks about his stop-motion “Anomalisa” and how Internet culture is destroying us all. MATT PRIGGE @mattprigge

matt.prigge@metro.us

Screenwriter Charlie Kaufman is smiling and joking. That’s not what you’d expect if you’ve seen his films, like “Being John Malkovich” or “Adaptation,” in which Nicolas Cage plays “Charlie Kaufman”: a pudgy, depressive screenwriter fighting through writer’s block. The real Kaufman is thin and prone to joking about Guy Fieri and forgotten Dustin Hoffman movies. Remember “Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium”? Exactly. Still, funny isn’t the same as upbeat, and he’s here to talk about his new film, “Anomalisa,” a particularly sad film with puppets. It’s adapted from a play first staged in 2005, consisting entirely of three actors speaking in the dark.

“I didn’t want to make it as a movie,” Kaufman confesses. “It was designed to be heard and not seen.” But he gave in, especially once he and his co-director Duke Johnson happened upon the idea to do it entirely in stopmotion animation. The story — which follows Michael, a depressed motivational speaker (voiced by David Thewlis) falling for a wallflower (Jennifer Jason Leigh) — was a hard sell, and he and Johnson had to do it independently, on the cheap. At one point, the characters get busy, similar to the very funny, very graphic puppet sex scene in ‘Team America.’” But Kaufman and Johnson play it straight. “There’s the expectation that it will be a joke. And it’s not. People may be taken aback by that,” Kaufman says. “A lot of people have said they’re not recognizable actors, so you’re not thinking about the things you’re thinking about in a scene with familiar actors: Are they uncomfortable? What’s it like

with the crew standing around? What’s it like faking having sex with somebody? Stuff you can’t help thinking about is gone.” Both Michael and Leigh’s Lisa are designed as regular-looking people, not models. “If you cast two regular-looking actors, it would be all anybody would talk about: ‘Oh, look at that body,’” Kaufman says. s. “It’s just sad — it’s sad to be in this culture.” Being gloomy omy about where humanity ity is going ties into a Kaufman ufman film he thinks may y never get made: “Frank or Francis,” a musical that notoriously fell apart rt at the last minnute, despite beeing filled with h movie stars. “Frank or Francis” dealt with Internet culture, depicting an ensemble cast of people who treat each other terribly online. “You can GETTY IMAGES

say whatever you want and it’s anonymous and there’s no repercussions, and there’s no consequences,” Kaufman says. “There’s no awareness of the person you’re hurting. You don’t see the hurt. You just put it out there and other people laugh and other people contribute to it. If you’re a d— but it’s clever, other people encourage you. It’s creepy. It’s a terrible, terrible road we’re going down.”

Denzel Washington scored his second Oscar by going bad in “Training Day.” PROVIDED

Denzel Washington just received the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement at the Golden Globes, which makes it a good time to revisit his rabid turn as a crooked cop in “Training Day.” But the movie has more going for it than Denzel. As his rookie partner, Ethan Hawke finally showed he could do more than brood angstily. And director Antoine Fuqua found the right mix of smarts and trash. It’s among the sleaziest films ever held up for AMPAS scrutiny, and that’s a beautiful thing.

“HORSE MONEY”

The one known only as Ventura appears in Pedro Costa’s “Horse Money.” CINEMA GUILD

Portuguese filmmaker Pedro Costa is a hard sell: the most minimalist of minimalists, the most austere of the austere. Many of his films, like “In Vanda’s Room” and “Colossal Youth,” stare dead-eyed on the impoverished, in grungy long takes that never seem to end. Angry yet playful, “Horse Money” is a series of elegant video tableaux about the country’s forgotten immigrants from the Ivory Coast, who struggle for hospital care and other services but instead skulk about the literal shadows.

“WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN”

Tilda Swinton tries and fails to keep it together in “We Need to Talk About Kevin.”OSCILLOSCOPE PICTURES

Tilda Swinton can do many things, but one thing she does better than most is wigged-out. She won her Oscar for playing an increasingly flabbergasted company lawyer in “Michael Clayton,” and she unravels even better as a mother whose son (Ezra Miller) unleashed a Columbine-style massacre. The film, by Scotland’s great Lynne Ramsay (“Morvern Callar”), mirrors her fractured psyche, jumping around the timeline and focusing on someone who treated motherhood grouchily even before realizing she’d birthed a bad egg.

You’d think that having a gaggle of girls waiting for you at the airport hoping just for a wave — or a selfie, if they’re lucky — is something reserved for teen heartthrobs, but O-Town’s Jacob Underwood, 35, says it’s a reality for the band who’s on the road for their reunion tour. “It blows our minds,” he says. “It reaffirmed that people want us back.” And 15 years after exploding onto the pop scene, back they are. O-Town, who hit the big time on the MTV reality show, “Making the Band,” released a new album in 2014 and is now taking a victory lap around the country promoting it.

Now or never

“We were all a little giddy in the beginning to see what was going to happen,” Underwood says about getting back in the studio again. “We had never lost touch,

but [talking] did become fewer and farther between because we all live in different places.” Underwood says when they got back together, it felt just like old times, although

they were down a man, Ashley Parker Angel, who opted to pursue Broadway instead of rejoining the band. “We’d been wanting to get back together as a band for a long time,

but the reason why it took so many years is because one person was always out for one reason or another,” Underwood says. “When it became 10 years and Ashley was out again, we thought we needed to do it as four or never do it at all. There were no hard feelings either way. Ashley’s happy for us and we’re happy for him.”

Bowie didn’t make his proper film acting debut till 1976’s “The Man Who Fell to Earth.” It was a perfect fit, and not just because he played an alien. Nicolas Roeg’s film was, like Bowie, daring and experimental, using elliptical editing to get viewers into the mind of Bowie’s Jerome, who’s come to Earth hoping to find a cure for his planet. Instead he languishes, staying beautiful 1976 Bowie as everyone else ages.

This Jim Henson-George Lucas-Terry Jones fantasy introduced him to a whole new generation of children, even though they were watching him play a grown man trying to woo a teenage Jennifer Connelly. But even as Jareth, the “goblin king” in “Labyrinth,” he didn’t ham it up. He was a figure of elegance who just happened to be surrounded by silly puppets.

Much of Bowie’s acting were small roles, the best of which was in Christopher Nolan’s dueling magician drama “The Prestige.” As Nicola Tesla, Bowie gets one of cinema’s great walk-ons, then gets a line that might as well be autobiographical. “The first time I changed the world, I was hailed as visionary,” his Tesla says. “The second time I was asked politely to retire.” Even in a medium that was not his own, he marked his territory.

If you’re craving the sweet, sad buzz of Weezer’s “Pinkerton, a live performance of the entire 1996 release will go down at this month’s edition of Emo Night. Weezer tribute band Tired of Sex will channel Rivers Cuomo’s Harvard days Wednesday, Jan. 13 at the Sinclair with the ever-so-cleverly named fellow emo cover band, White Belts. The dance night, hosted by DJ Texas Mike and writer Luke O’Neil (who, full disclosure, scribes for us sometimes), typically comes up the third Thursday of each month,

At what sounds like our dreams finally coming true, four Boston areas chefs will duke it out in a battle of the French fry — or as it is customarily known, a “fry-off —- at Somerville’s The Kirkland Tap & Trotter on Jan. 31 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The spud showndown is part of Food Fights 3, a series of cookoffs hosted by childhoodhunger-fighting nonprofit, No Kid Hungry. This year’s participating chefs include and Kirkland’s own Tony Maws from Craigie on Main, Sarma’s Cassie Piuma, Scampo’s Lydia Shire and Andy Husbands, of Tremont 647 and Sister Sorel. Each chef will submit their best fry and accouterment — meaning a dipping sauce, or cheese, or braised meat or what were we talking about? Who are you again? Right. But they’re keeping pretty mum about what’s in-store.

According to Maws’ PR team, “the sky’s the limit, with the only requirement being that each chef must submit a potato-based fry. (Step

off, avocado. We see you.) The crowd and a panel of three judges will declare winners based on the best overall fry experience.

Tickets are $30, available at ce.nokidhungry.org, include fry tastings, additional snacks and two drink tickets. The event is 21+. RACHEL RACZKA

New Year’s resolution mistakes most people make — and how to avoid them Here’s how to actually see your big 2016 goals through. EMILY LAURENCE @EmLaurence

emily.laurence@metro.us

We all start the New Year with the best intentions. But come May (OK, let’s be real, by February) those goals are forgotten. Life happens, and other things come up. But if you are seriously determined to accomplish your resolutions — truly, really! — here’s how to get it done.

Mistake 1: Not writing it down It may seem cheesy, but the simple act of writing down your resolutions actually works, at least according to a study done at Dominican University. Students who wrote down their goals accomplished them more than their counterparts who didn’t, by a long shot. Put your written-down resolutions somewhere that you will see them often. That way, they will stay front-of-mind year round.

Mistake 2: Keeping it a secret Sharing your New Year’s resolutions is intimidating because you become accountable to someone — but that’s exactly how a dream gets turned into a reality. You’ll be more likely to see your resolutions through when you know someone will be checking in and asking how it’s coming along.

Mistake 3: Only visualizing the end goal While it’s important to keep the big picture in mind, you also have to know how you’re going to get there. According to Psychology Today, studies performed at both Harvard University and the University of Southern California found that a key practice in accomplishing a longterm goal was setting smaller, daily habits. Accomplishing these daily tasks gives a pleasurable dopamine rush and also sets the groundwork for bigger goals.

Mistake 4: Not making the time Part of making a resolu-

tion plan is figuring out how you can carve out the time to make it happen. Most people don’t have spare time in their schedule, so often it means giving up something else. Wanting to write a novel, for example, might mean getting up an hour early every day to write. Literally inputting into your schedule the time you are going to regularly designate to seeing your resolution through will make it a priority.

Mistake 5: Not celebrating the small victories Harvard professor Shawn Achor stresses the importance of patting yourself on the back every so often in his book, “The Happiness Advantage. During his 12 years of research, he found that appreciating small, incremental changes related to the overall goal is what keeps goal-setters happy and on track. If you aren’t happy trying to reach your goal, chances are you’ll give up. Stop and celebrate the small victories along the way. You deserve it.

jobs education HOW TO GET AHEAD

From TED Talks to podcasts to Moth SLAMS, our culture is obsessed with storytelling. But sharing one’s personal narrative isn’t just a way to entertain a group of strangers and friends: It’s also a vital skill. Whether you’re an entrepreneur pitching your business idea in front of would-be investors, a freelancer going to a networking party or a college senior writing a cover letter for your first job, being able to tell an engaging personal story will help you stand out. As co-founder of the Moth’s education program, Micaela Blei knows how to get the best stories out of even the most reticent individuals. The former teacher and two-time GrandSLAM champion coaches New

York City adolescents — not exactly the most vocal bunch of humans — to open up about their lives in front of strangers, teachers, parents and, perhaps most terrifying, their peers. And to great success. “We’ve seen our students take their Moth stories and do exciting things with them,” she says. “A few have taken the transcript of their story and edited it into a college essay. And one student took audio of her story and made it into a film that she later submitted to the TriBeCa Film Festival — and won.” We asked Blei for her tips on how to tell a great story, for the next time you have to give a presentation, impress at a job interview or write an essay.

Talk it out When giving a presentation it’s important to sound natural. You want to draw people in, communicate with them, and

the best way to do that isn’t by writing a speech and memorizing it. “Sharing a story as yourself isn’t performing a monologue,” says Blei. Instead, try to tell your story into a tape recorder — or in front of a friend — and refine it from there. “Make a bullet-point list of what’s going to happen so you can stay on track, but don’t write out the whole thing.”

Be vulnerable Listeners respond to those with whom they can empathize, so don’t try to mask your insecurities or faults. Be honest in your story, of course, but admit it or make a joke about it if you’re feeling nervous or if you trip up. “It’s OK to be scared; it’s a scary thing you’re doing,” says Blei. “And if you tell the audience what you’re feeling, they will be on your side and root for you.”

End with a bang You definitely want to

Learn to SLAM Starting this spring, The Moth will launch its All-City SLAM Program in NYC. An expansion of the Moth’s afterschool program, it allows students grades 10 through 12 to apply to join the All-City SLAM team. Thirty students will be selected to attend six storytelling workshops and prepare for a live SLAM event. “It’s helped me be more able to address my emotions,” says Mmachi O. Dimoriaku, a junior at Dreamyard Preparatory High School in the Bronx and a current SLAM student. To apply, go to Education. themoth.org/allcity.

start strong, but you should leave your audience pumped, inspired and on a strong note. “You don’t have to tie your story up with a perfect bow,” says Blei. “But you don’t want to peter out. Follow your bullet points so you don’t lose sight of your conclusion.”

Cambridge College School of Psychology and Counseling Cambridge College poised to meet the skyrocketing demand for skilled mental health professionals The statistics are staggering. According to a recent New York Times article, the overall cost of mental health disorders will soon surpass all other non-communicable diseases, including heart disease and cancer. What accounts for this surge? A number of factors, such as an aging and diversifying population that needs specialized and culturally appropriate counseling services; returning veterans who need trauma and addiction counseling; an emphasis on prevention and wellness in the workplace; and a focus on treating children and families together in a home-based setting. As a result, demand for skilled mental health professionals is skyrocketing. The United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, cites that employment in this field is expected to increase by 29% over a decade, making it one of the fastest growing occupational fields in the country. Cambridge College School of Psychology and

Counseling (SOPC) is uniquely poised to help adult learners succeed and advance in this rapidly growing and changing field by preparing students for licensing and credentialing necessary to succeed in today’s counseling careers. The SOPC is a practitioner-centered, graduate training program with an emphasis on addressing the health needs of diverse populations. Students are working adults, often positioned in clinical/ counseling settings, and seeking to practice in a broad range of specializations. As America’s mental health needs continue to diversify, there has been a shift from large hospitals and clinics to working in specializations such as addictions, trauma and rehabilitation, community-based care and adult outreach, and home-based care for families and children. Cambridge College School of Psychology and Counseling has kept abreast of those changing needs, with a proven track record of success with alumni working in areas that include community mental health services, in-home behavioral services, rehabilitation counseling, addictions counseling, employee assistance programs, and trauma and family counseling. There is still time to enroll for the Spring term, which begins January 19th. Learn more about exciting careers in this growing field and take advantage of our “Admissions on the spot’ capability. NBA power rankings | by James Toscano No. 1

Warriors (35-2) Another perfect week for the Warriors, who went 4-0 and beat each of those teams by double-digits — three on the road. Stephen Curry had eight 3-pointers and 38 points in Sacramento. In other words, par for the course. No. 2

No. 3

No. 6

Cavs (26-9)

Bulls (22-13)

The cream of the crop in the East, this team is slowly distancing itself from the pack, having won seven games in a row — including five on the road. They’ve got the Texas Triangle (Dallas, San Antonio, Houston) this week.

The Bulls had a six-game winning streak snapped in Atlanta but that shouldn’t take away from how good they’ve been as of late. And they’re about to get Joakim Noah back from a shoulder surgery that’s kept him out of nine games.

Raptors (24-15)

The Thunder probably wish they had a couple games back over the last two weeks, falling at home to the Kings and then allowing the Trail Blazers to come back and win in the fourth quarter.

The Raptors took care of business against the doormat teams in the Eastern Conference last week. They’ll get some rest this week, too, with just one game all week — Thursday against the Magic in Orlando. No. 14

Spurs (32-6)

Hawks (23-15)

Celtics (23-15)

The Spurs are still hot on the Warriors’ trail, which is amazing. In fact, San Antonio’s point-differential is actually better than Golden State’s at plus-13.9 to plus-12.2. The Spurs will host the Cavs on Thursday, looking to improve on their 22-0 home record.

The Hawks didn’t have an answer for the Knicks last week, but a 15-point win over the hot Bulls is one way to make up for it. The Chicago victory was their best win since beating Oklahoma City on Nov. 30 or perhaps Dallas on Dec. 9.

Having lost five of six, the C’s are looking like the young team that they are. Blowing a 21-point lead to the Grizzlies is a sign of immaturity, culminating with Marcus Smart’s frustration foul at a key point in the game.

Taurus Express your plans and check out your options. Interviews and meetings with experts will help you make a decision that will promote gain.

Gemini Speak up about your feelings. It’s not OK to let someone take advantage of you or railroad you into doing things you don’t want to do.

Cancer Let your imagination take charge, especially when making changes at home or in the workplace. A property investment looks promising.

Leo Make a point to wheel and deal until you get what you want. If you desire a change, do whatever it takes to make it happen.

Virgo Take down your barriers and have fun. If you let your friends and colleagues discover your sense of humor, it will be much easier to close deals.

Libra Approach certain concerns carefully. An opponent will be harsh if you want to alter the way you do things. Reverse psychology will help you. Scorpio A challenge will motivate you to do something constructive. A new project that allows you to use your creative skills will lead to something good.
