UK’S CAMERON RELEASES TAX RECORDS TO CALM PANAMA PAPERS STORM
1
British Prime Minister David Cameron took the unusual step on Sunday of publishing his tax records to try to end days of questions about his personal wealth raised by the mention of his late father’s offshore fund in the Panama Papers. Cameron’s initial reluctance to admit that he had benefited from the fund caused a furor, compounding his problems when he faces a huge political fight to persuade Britons to vote to stay in the European Union in a June 23 referendum. The EU issue has split his Conservative Party, while the government has also been going through a tough patch over a senior minister’s resignation. REUTERS
US AIRMAN IN SHOOTING AT TEXAS AIR BASE WAS A FORMER FBI AGENT
2
A U.S. airman who apparently shot and killed his commanding officer at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and then turned the gun on himself was a former Federal Bureau of Investigation agent, the FBI said on Sunday. Air Force Technical Sgt. Steven D. Bellino was an FBI agent for less than two years when he resigned in May 2013, an agency spokesman said. Bellino and Lt. Colonel William A. Schroeder were found dead at 8:50 a.m. on Friday inside an office at the base in San Antonio. Schroeder was Bellino’s commanding officer, military officials said in a statement. The shootings appeared to have been a murder-suicide. A Pentagon official, speaking on condition on anonymity, told CNN that the airman shot his commander. REUTERS
FORMER SAINTS PLAYER WILL SMITH SHOT DEAD, SUSPECT CHARGED

Will Smith was killed and his wife injured by a gunman who shot the retired football player several times after ramming into his car in New Orleans, police and a local media report said on Sunday. Alleged shooter Cardell Hayes, 30, was arrested and charged with seconddegree murder, the New Orleans Police Department said in a tweet. Police said they were investigating the killing as a possible case of road rage. Smith, 34, a retired defensive end with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, was traveling in a Mercedes in the city’s Lower Garden District when his car was rear-ended by a Hummer. Smith exchanged words with the driver of the Hummer, who took out a handgun and shot him several times, New Orleans Police Department spokesman Juan Barnes said in a statement. REUTERS

BOLARIS’ WEATHER WATCH: SNOW DONE, FUNK AHEAD Well wasn’t that a nice springlike weekend … Not! A few places picked up to half a foot of snow this past weekend in parts of the Northern Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. Freezing temperatures had you scrambling for the winter gear once again, and some of our crops and plants were damaged from record cold. The good news is “no more snow, the winter of 2015-16 is over,” however a big warmup is not in sight, at least not from this weather guy. Now if you’re looking at your local seven-day outlook, it looks pretty good with sunshine basically from Wednesday through this upcoming weekend.
Unfortunately I don’t see it this way as an omega block is setting up, and if you’re on the wrong side of an omega block the weather will turn out funky and unsettled with showers, drizzle and cool temperatures. An omega block is a huge upper level highpressure ridge with two upper level low-pressure systems on each side of it. It looks like an upsidedown horseshoe similar to the Greek alphabet character omega. If you’re in the middle of this high pressure ridge, the weather will turn out very nice with abundant sunshine, however if your on the low pressure side of it, the weather turns unsettled for an

extended period of time as the system is locked in “blocked.” The Northeast is prone to annoying omega blocks around this time of year and computer models are usually slow to pick this up. My advice to all my Metro peeps, especially all coastal residents, is to keep the umbrella nearby — light jackets, sweaters and the poncho will be in vogue this week, with the worst of it for your upcoming weekend. Smile, Memorial Day weekend is not that far away!

After a months-long debate among lawmakers, Gov. Charlie Baker is scheduled to sign a bill that would raise the cap on solar energy net metering in the state on Monday morning. The compromise bill lifts the cap by 3 percent — from 4 to 7 percent of peak electrical usage for companies and from 5 to 8 percent for governmentrun solar — which will allow more public and private groups to sell power produced by solar panels back to utility companies. The legislation, which made its way through the House and Senate with just one opposing vote in either chamber this

month, scales back the value of solar energy credits to about 11 or 12 cents per kilowatt hour, which is down from the prior rate of 17 to 21 cents. It doesn’t apply to government-run projects or to homeowners, who would keep the higher reimbursement rates. It comes after opposition, though. Among concerns, some solar advocates and business groups said they weren’t pleased with the bill’s credit value cuts and worried it would
slow the growth of the solar industry. Others celebrated it as a way to stoke the market for renewable energy. “The bill approved ... by the House will put thousands of solar workers back on the job and ensure families and communities reap the clear economic, tax and income benefits of solar, Sean Garren, Northeast regional manager for Vote Solar, said last week. The permanent souvenirs of the Boston Tattoo Convention Human canvases share thoughts on their new ink at the 2016 body art fest. SPENCER BUELL @MetroBOS
spencer.buell@metro.us
As a chorus of needles sizzled inside a Hynes Convention Center function hall, hundreds of body artists and enthusiasts convened at the 15th Annual Boston Tattoo Convention this weekend. More than 100 booths boasted posters, paintings, tattoo-making gear, leather get-ups and many human canvasses getting inked on the spot. The convention every year brings some of the best tattoo artists from up and down the East Coast and around the world. The Boston stop is one of his favorites, said artist, magician and event emcee The Synystr Mr. Syxx,
who was prowling the convention floor making announcements through a wireless microphone. “This one really does concentrate on friends getting together doing what we love to do in a really positive environment,” Syxx said in an interview. His two-pronged beard, like long upsidedown devil horns, flapped as he talked. “This is one of the most up shows that I do and I probably do 30 shows a year.” The diversity in the crowd is what makes it fun, he said. From the artists made famous online or on TV shows like Spike’s “Ink Master,” to the unknowns just starting out, everyone is represented at Boston’s biggest body art fest, said Syxx. “You have some of the best in the world sitting here right now,” he said. Metro stopped by on Sunday, the last hurrah for the three-day convention.
Celestial BB-8 “My wife is gonna kill me,” said Ricky Meskell, of Derry, New Hampshire. Artist Jesse Pinette, of Presque Isle, was just starting work on a forearm-covering rendition of Master Chief from the “Halo” video game series. “Not a fan of tattoos, nothing. Or the video game,” Meskell said, referring to his wife. “You’re screwed,” Pinette said.

Free-hand work in progress Work was just getting started on Ethan Bubier’s mechanical-inspired tattoo on his bicep. Artist Chris Flynn was sketching it out with a marker, making it up as he went along. Both are from Maine. “It’s all just kind of right out of my head, just free-hand,” Flynn said. “I’m trying to follow the muscle structure.” “I trust him,” Bubier said. “I’ve known him for like, 20 years.”
Spirit animals Chloe Higginbotham, 21, of Middleborough, was splayed out on a long black massage table as Florida-based Chris Buckholts got to work buzzing the head of Louise Belcher from the cartoon “Bob’s Burgers” into her shoulder. “She’s basically my spirit animal,” Higginbotham said of the offbeat, scheming character. “She’s me. If you’re ever wondering, that’s basically where I’m at.” Free-hand work in progress Tobias Goodman, 19, settled on getting a leg tattoo of a BB-8 droid – the rolling robot from the new “Star Wars” movie. It has the added flair of a “celestial” pattern, which Goodman saw Salem, New Hampshire, tattooist East Estrada drawing on another customer at the convention. “I was like, ‘Yo that would look so cool on mine so I kind of merged my idea into it,” Goodman said.

BRIEF Ukrainian PM Yatseniuk resigns, paving way for new government Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk tendered his resignation on Sunday, paving the way for Western-backed coalition parties to nominate an ally of President Petro Poroshenko to try to form a more stable government. Yatseniuk survived a noconfidence motion in February, but political infighting and graft
scandals have fractured the ruling coalition and further delayed the disbursement of aid under a $17.5 billion International Monetary Fund bailout program. The self-described “kamikaze” prime minister came to office in 2014 determined to pass stringent economic reforms, but his public support has slumped into the low single digits, partly on the perception that his government has not done enough to hold oligarchs to account.
His departure removes an obstacle to the formation of a new government, which must try to push delayed reform bills through parliament against the opposition of populist former coalition partners who have vowed to oppose austerity measures required under the IMF program. “I have taken the decision to resign as prime minister of Ukraine. On Tuesday, April 12, my request will be submitted to
the parliament,” Yatseniuk said in a televised address. “The political crisis in the country was created artificially. The desire to change one person blinded politicians and paralyzed their political will for real change,” he said. Poroshenko’s BPP faction and Yatseniuk’s People’s Front party had been expected to announce a reboot of their ruling coalition next week. REUTERS

Brussels bombers had planned to attack France again: Prosecutors The militant cell behind bombings in Brussels had been plotting to hit France again after carrying out the Paris attacks in November, but was forced to strike closer to home as police closed in, Belgian prosecutors said on Sunday. Investigations into the Islamic State attacks in Paris, which killed 130 people, showed that many of the perpetrators lived in Belgium, including surviving suspects who managed to evade police for more than four months. Prime suspect Salah Abdeslam was arrested on March 18 in the Belgian capital. Four days later, suicide bombers killed 32 people in Brussels airport and a rush-hour metro train. “Numerous elements in the investigation have shown that the terrorist group initially had the intention to strike in France again,” Belgium’s federal prosecutor said in a statement. “Surprised by the speed of progress in the investigation, they took the decision to strike in Brussels.” Belgian intelligence and security forces had been criticized abroad for not doing more to dismantle the militant cell, because of its links to the Paris attacks. As of Friday, all publicly identified suspects were either in detention or dead, but Belgium remains on its second highest threat level, and
Prime Minister Charles Michel said his government would remain alert. His comments were echoed by French Prime Minister Manuel Valls, who said France would not be lowering its guard. “This is a further sign of the very serious threat facing Europe as a whole and of course France in particular,” Valls told a news conference in Algiers. Abdeslam, born and raised in Belgium to Moroccan-born parents, told a magistrate he had planned to blow himself up at a sports stadium in Paris in November, but backed out at the last minute. His brother Brahim blew himself up at a Paris cafe. Another man linked to the Paris attacks, Mohamed Abrini, was arrested in Brussels on Friday and admitted to being the “man in the hat” captured on video walking into Brussels airport alongside two suicide bombers. Abrini, 31, has been charged with terrorist murders, prosecutors said. Another main suspect who was seen alongside the suicide bomber in the Brussels metro, identified by prosecutors as Osama K, was also arrested on Friday in the Belgian capital. Osama K, 28, widely named by media as Swedish national Osama Krayem, was filmed buying the bags used to carry the Brussels bombs. REUTERS

Indian temple blaze kills 100, more than 380 injured Thousands of devotees had packed into the Puttingal Devi temple when a fireworks display for the local Hindu new year sparked deadly explosions. A fire and explosions during a fireworks display to mark the start of the local Hindu new year killed 100 people and injured more than 380 at a temple in the city of Kollam India’s southern Kerala state on Sunday. The blaze started when a cracker fell onto a shed where the fireworks were stored, sparking a string of powerful explosions that blew the roof of the administrative block of the temple and caused another building to collapse, residents said. “There were body parts on the floor and on the roof there was an arm,” Anita Prakash, a resident said. “In the past, there’s
been fireworks but not on this scale.” Kerala is studded with temples managed by rich and powerful trusts that often flout local regulations. Each year temples hold fireworks displays, often competing to stage the most spectacular ones, with judges who decide the winners. Kollam district magistrate A. Shainamol said people living in the area near the temple had complained about the danger of these fireworks in the past. Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew to Kollam with a team of doctors to help state authorities cope with the large number of injured, moving swiftly to head off criticism of a lack of public safety. “The fire at the temple in Kollam is heart-rending and shocking beyond words,” he said in a Twitter post. “My thoughts are with families of the deceased and prayers with the injured.” Modi has faced public

criticism in the past for failing to respond quickly to disasters such as the floods in Chennai late last year. Large parts of the metropolis were under water for days before government help arrived. THE BATTLE AT HOME Trivia question: What city can lay claim to more than half of the remaining presidential contenders? Yep, New York. And with the Empire State’s primary looming, you can expect to see the candidates trudging up and down Broadway like actors looking for auditions. That leads my three things to watch this week in politics. 1. HOME COURT ADVANTAGE: Bernie Sanders was born in New York. Hillary Clinton has adopted it as her home. Either way, both of the Democratic contenders will be hollering up their homies for what promises to be a ripping debate on CNN Thursday night. All that friendly banter of the early days? Fuggedaboutit. Expect tough talk and spiked spinning afterward. Donald Trump will probably be tearing out his remaining hair because he can’t get into the fight with them. Oh wait, it’s Trump. He’ll find a way. Meanwhile, Ted Cruz — find any New York values you like yet?
TOM FOREMAN Opinion CNN’s Tom Foreman is the author of the new book “My Year of Running Dangerously.”
2. SLOW AND GRUDGING: The Department of Justice has finally and reluctantly released documents related to the federal sting-turned-fiasco called Fast and Furious. That was the
gun-running operation that was supposed to ferret out big drug dealers in Mexico but ended up arming some instead. One weapon was even found in the hideout of El Chapo. Congressional Republicans have been screaming for the papers for years, but it took a court order to make it happen and even then the Obama administration waited until the deadline. Not sure the GOP can get any attention on the matter amid all the campaign noise, but they’ll try this week anyway. 3. GETTING AWAY FROM IT ALL: If everything goes as planned, Bernie Sanders will be hanging out with His Holiness in Rome just days before the New York vote. Maybe. Sanders proudly announced he’d been invited to the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, and that’s happening on Friday. But then came some angry words from folks suggesting he kind of invited himself, and it’s not clear if he’ll see the pope, and … heaven knows how it will turn out. Literally.

Leonardo DiCaprio officially sweeps awards season Sure, finally winning an Oscar was a big deal for Leonardo DiCaprio, but this icing on the cake must feel pretty great, too. Feud between Queen and Sacha Baron Cohen not going away
So remember when Sacha Baron Cohen was going to star as Freddie Mercury in a biopic about the late Queen singer but he couldn’t see eye to eye with the band on how to do the movie? Well, apparently neither side will shut up about it. Last month Cohen dished to Howard Stern about how the band wanted a cleaner, PG-13 movie, while he wanted something darker. Now Queen guitarist Brian May is striking back, telling the Guardian that’s not exactly why
things didn’t work out. “Sacha became an arse,” he said. “We had some nice times with Sacha kicking around ideas, but he went off and told untruths about what
happened.” OK then! Oh, and May says the film is still happening, but with Ben Whishaw in the role. “He’s fabulous,” May says. “A real actor.” Oh, burn.

If you spend enough time swiping, some great matches will pop up on your screen. But meeting IRL for a date isn’t always easy. Maybe your messages lose momentum or the other person akes. It happens to a lot of my clients. One recently told me he had 14 conversations going on an app, but only four resulted in real dates. And that’s the norm — lots of messages, but not nearly as many dates oine.
New apps are trying to ďŹ x this ratio by ipping how you irt: Make plans ďŹ rst, message later. You can opt out of the date if you communicate and don’t click, but having plans to start (hopefully) means fewer missed connections. You’ll ďŹ nd this style of connecting on the app Dine, where you are shown a date spot and a match who’d like to meet there. If you like the person, send him or her a request for a date. Once accepted, you can chat and plan
ISTOCK
the date. On the app Fortu, the functionality is similar but the focus is more on activity dates. You can browse your matches by category, such as culture and entertainment. A day and time is listed for each date, too. It’s a bonus for busy singles who want to slip dating into their schedules, since you can ďŹ lter by when you’re free. Since getting oine is such an issue for singles, I expect we’ll see more apps like this
soon. But no matter which app is at your ďŹ ngertips, keep in mind that when date planning comes ďŹ rst, the ideas you post matter most. Consider how you’ll connect with someone in that environment before you agree to meet. For example, tickets to a show are a fun idea, but it may not give you the chance to really get to know each other. And all restaurants are not created equal — the ambiance often sets the tone.

Co-working by design Our work spaces influence our productivity and creativity, so choose wisely. ALIZAH SALARIO @Alirosa
alizah.salario@metro.us
Now that co-working spaces have gone mainstream in major cities, there are countless options to choose from. So how do you know which space is right for you? Besides price and location, obviously, one often overlooked factor to consider is the space itself. “What the workplace looks like, how it’s laid out and how it feels has a 100 percent relationship to productivity and workflow and creativity,â€? says Wendy NuĂąez-Formickella, a senior interior designer and studio director at MKDA, a design firm specializing in work-
spaces. “When you work in a [place] that’s not comfortable, properly lit or where the air isn’t flowing properly, it takes a toll on your well-being.â€? Particularly for contractors and creative types, a space might serve as a sort of sanctuary away from the distractions of home — making layout and design all the more important. “The trend today is just to always be on, always be thinking and always be creative,â€? she says. “It’s kind of nice to know you can go somewhere and just focus for as long as you need to and get those thoughts on paper instead of just going home and being distracted by whatever might be there.â€? gave us a few tips on which factors to consider in your potential new office:
Accessibility and design of common spaces
Kitchens, pantries and bathrooms are very important in a shared space, says NuĂąezFormickella. Pay attention to how far away common spaces are from the furthest point, and what the walking
patterns in the office are like. Then notice the materials they’re made from. “We’re seeing a lot of wood [in co-working spaces], because everything was so white and metal for so long. But with these open environments, you want to create a sense of intimacy. What is really the easiest way to bring that in? It’s the natural warmth of bringing the outdoors in, especially when people are working long hours.

HOW TO GET AHEAD Options for privacy Even in a shared space, a little privacy is necessary, says the expert. Find out if there are private lockers available, and if you can move furniture around or use temporary panels to provide boundaries in open areas for meeting. Are there smaller support spaces for one-onone conversations? Is there space for a privacy cone within a cubicle?
Networking opportunities Because co-working 2.0 is about more than finding a place to park your laptop — networking and creating community are key aspects too — there’s more to consider when making a membership commitment. Are their events? Is there a communal space within
the company? What are the expectations for interaction? Understand not just the layout of space, but expectations for its use.
Atmosphere and aesthetics When she’s designing spaces, NuĂąez-Formickella always thinks of line of sight — so that everyone can share in that open feeling of windows no matter where they sit — as well as lighting. “I love creating a dynamic ceiling height. So going from entryways to a beautiful open area kind of creates this flow of ideas. It’s all mental, right? So you walk into a space and you go into an open area, that’s just very creative and inspiring.â€? These small details, she says, can make you feel more at home.

Sox’s home opener chock-full of stories The Red Sox open their home schedule against the O’s Monday. RYAN HANNABLE @RyanHannable sports@metro.us
It wasn’t supposed to happen originally, but David Price will be on the mound Monday at Fenway Park for the Red Sox’s home opener against the Orioles (2 p.m., NESN). Due to the rainy week in Cleveland, the Red Sox altered their rotation and opposed having Price to pitch on regular rest Sunday against the Blue Jays. He could have pitched Sunday in Toronto, where he’s pitched historically well, but manager John Farrell elected to give Price an extra day of rest. He explained what went into the decision. “Our thought coming out of spring training was David was going to pitch Monday [April 4] and we’d roll him back around on Saturday in Game 2,” Far-
rell said on the WEEI Red Sox Radio Network over the weekend. “Then he would be on tap to get an extra day rest the next time through on Friday back home against Toronto once again. When we started to miss days and then all of a sudden you’re looking at two and possible three guys in that rotation getting pushed further back, I think it begins to accumulate against you in that way. We tried to keep our entire rotation as close to their normal day as possible, rather than just looking at one guy in particular and keeping him on a set schedule.” Price will be making his Fenway debut as a member of the Red Sox, a place where he’s pitched extremely well. For his career he is 6-1 with a 1.95 ERA at Fenway. It is his lowest ERA in any ballpark in baseball where he’s made at least three starts. The new Red Sox lefthander won’t be the only star to be making his Fen-
Jays shut out Sox Despite tallying nine baserunners, the Red Sox were unable to cross home plate in a 3-0 loss to Marco Astrada and the Blue Jays Sunday afternoon. Hanley Ramirez’s three hits were wasted as a lack of run support handed Steven Wright a loss despite allowing just one earned run in six and two thirds frames.
way Park debut as a member of the Sox, as Craig Kimbrel could see some time in the ninth if Boston has the lead. With the addition of Kimbrel, Koji Uehara has slotted back and the move improves the bullpen as a whole. While Uehara was a fan favorite, getting Kimbrel makes the bullpen that much better than it was a year ago. Also, it will be Red Sox fans’ first chance to see Travis Shaw start at third base as Pablo Sandoval will be on the bench.
Red Sox fans are expecting nothing less than Cy Young stuff from their new ace David Price. GETTY IMAGES
With the team being introduced before the game, it will be interesting to see the reception Sandoval gets from the Fenway
faithful. There should be no shortage of storylines and excitement for Monday’s opener and what better
way to get the home slate going than the No. 1 acquisition of the offseason getting the ball for the first game at Fenway.
