TRUMP SAYS REPUBLICAN RACE ALL BUT OVER IF HE WINS INDIANA
1
Donald Trump said on Sunday that he will have essentially sealed the Republican U.S. presidential nomination if he wins Tuesday’s contest in Indiana, where he now holds a big lead over chief rival Ted Cruz. A new NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist opinion poll showed Trump with a wide lead in Indiana, 49 percent to 34 percent for Cruz and 13 percent for a third candidate, Ohio Governor John Kasich. Trump, a 69-year-old real estate developer, sounded confident in an interview on “Fox News Sunday” when asked whether Indiana would basically end the long-running Republican race in his favor. The poll showed the depth of the challenge facing Cruz, who is trying to prevent Trump from winning the 1,237 delegates needed to seal the nomination. REUTERS
DERAILED FREIGHT TRAIN NEAR DC LEAKS HAZARDOUS LIQUID

A CSX freight train derailed in northeastern Washington, D.C. on Sunday, spilling hazardous liquid near a city subway station, the railroad company said. Several cars were overturned but no injuries were reported. The District of Columbia Fire Department said it had not ordered evacuations near the site of the accident, about three miles from the White House. Sodium hydroxide, used to produce household products including paper, soap and detergent, was leaking from one car, CSX Corp said in a statement.

Daniel Berrigan, a Jesuit priest, poet and peace activist who was imprisoned for burning draft files to protest the Vietnam War, died on Saturday at 94, a Jesuit magazine reported.Berrigan died at the Murray-Weigel Jesuit Community in New York’s Bronx borough, America magazine said. It did not give a cause of death.A passionate critic of U.S. involvement in Vietnam, Berrigan gained worldwide attention in 1968 when he, his younger brother Philip, who was a Josephite priest, and seven other Catholics seized draft records from a Selective Service Office in Catonsville, Maryland. The group doused the files with homemade napalm in a parking lot outside the draft office and torched them while joining hands in prayer. REUTERS

BOLARIS’ WEATHER WATCH: WHAT THE FUNK! Definition of funk: a state of depression, blue funk, the dumps, the doldrums, a bad mood. Mother nature is officially in a funk, and let’s face it — it rubs off on us. We get into a funk, because of the weather, especially when the funk lasts for days and days and falls on our precious weekends. May is the time of the year when we start weather-fantasizing about a glorious Memorial Day weekend, not the month we say “bring back March!” (as temperatures in March soared into the record-breaking 70s and 80s from Philly to New York to Boston). The normal high

temperature for early May is right around 70 degrees, with the normal low around 50 degrees. On Sunday, temperatures were averaging close to 20 degrees below normal as the mercury hovered around 50, with a lid of clouds and funky rain and drizzle. Did I depress you enough? Wait, there’s more. This funk could last into next weekend, especially along all coastal
areas of the Northeast. Each day this week could be a bit unsettled with funky clouds dominating. If I had to pick the best day this week, I’d say Wednesday, as the atmosphere should dry out for a while before the next round of funk moves in for late this week and into your weekend. A few computer models keep the funk over us right through the weekend, with others trying to break the funk by Sunday. Now, I do have some good news: It’s not the Memorial Day weekend. The bad news is most of us will be a bit more testy and irritable due to the prolonged funk.
Local Boston forecast Today: Clouds dominate, possible shower, 62 Tuesday: Showers, 62 Wednesday: Some drying possible, 64 Thursday: Late afternoon showers, 63 Friday: Scattered showers, 65 Saturday: Scattered showers, 65 Sunday: Morning showers, 70

stroller-pushing families, college kids and youngish urban professionals past the at-capacity $10 parking lots, and soon, there they are: scores of tents packed with art, clothes and produce, music jingling in the distance and enough food trucks to cater a month’s worth of lunch breaks. Keep going, and there it is again: the handmade earrings, the artisan sandwiches. Why twice? This year for the first time, the South End has two outdoor public markets to its credit instead of just one: the SoWa Open Market and the similarly named South End Open Market, just a few steps from one another along Harrison Avenue. The doubling comes after a messy public break-up last year, when the longtime organizer of the SoWa Open Market Chris Masci and his landlord, Mario Nicosia, announced they would be parting ways after a trademarking dispute. Masci has moved his weekly festival, and many of the old vendors he used to work with, a few steps down the street to the parking lot across from Ming’s Market. It’s now called the South End Open Market. And under Nicosia’s control, the SoWa Open Market remains. Despite lots of skepticism and angst over how things would look postdivorce, Masci insisted on opening day — they both opened on the same day — that the split would end up benefiting everyone this season. “We think now that having both markets is going to be great competition and good for both the customers and the vendors,” said Masci, who also leads a company called New England Open
Markets. He said he doesn’t really want to get into what happened last year except to say, “we really don’t wish them any ill will.” Bradley St. Amand, SoWa Boston’s director of operations, said he is also optimistic about what the season holds. “We ultimately see it as a good thing,” St. Amand said. “For us the most important thing is always just bringing people to the neighborhood and supporting the local businesses around here. That’s the reason why we got into this in the first place and that’s our driving force.” With the bigger total footprint, the twin markets have more options between them this year. Nearly all of them are local small businesses, artisans and farmers. And both have made updates for 2016. The South End Open Market this year partnered with local vintage company Oliver Best. They’ve been given a corner of the market’s sprawling parking lot to curate as they see fit with up to 20 vendor spaces worth of vintage pickers, clothes designers and record collectors. “They’re part of what we call the ‘traveling spectacular,’” said Evan Gillis, Oliver Best’s marketing manager. “It’s kind of our crew of go-to vintage sellers.” SoWa, meanwhile, added a beer garden stocked with local beer, wine and cider – a new partnership with Eat Boston and Wine Riot. Inside the big repurposed brick warehouse near a giant ring of food trucks on Sunday, more than 100 sat sipping drinks and munching on snacks. “It’s going to continue to grow and we’re excited for the summer,” said St. Amand.

Malia Obama headed to Harvard, but will take a year off first Both her parents attended Harvard Law School. President Barack Obama’s eldest daughter Malia will attend Harvard University in the fall of 2017 after taking a year off from studies following her high school graduation this spring, the White House said on Sunday. “Malia will take a gap year before beginning school,” a White House statement said, breaking a months-long silence about Malia’s college search. Malia, 17, will concentrate on finishing her high school final exams before considering how to spend her gap year, an official who had been briefed on Malia’s decision told Reuters. She has shown interest in film and television,
having worked two summer internships in the industry. Last summer, she worked in Brooklyn, New York, on the set of the HBO series “Girls.” In 2014 she worked on the set of CBS science fiction series “Extant” starring Halle Berry. The now-canceled series was produced by Steven Spielberg, a prominent
donor to Obama’s presidential campaigns. Harvard College, the university’s undergraduate division, said on its admissions website that it encouraged admitted students to defer enrollment for one year to travel, pursue a project or work. About 80 to 110 students did so each year, it said. REUTERS

RACE FOR THE WHITE HOUSE
TECHNICAL FOULS Like a basketball game that has been grinding along from one overtime to the next, this primary season seems to be finally reaching a turning point. Cue the highlights: Here are my three things to watch this week in politics. 1. DRIVING TO THE RIM: Trump has topped the 1,000 delegate mark, and the symbolism is not lost on GOPers. He is

now within range of clinching the party’s nomination with or without a strong showing in Indiana’s primary this week. For Ted Cruz, the clock is fast running out on his hopes of forcing a contested convention. If Cruz underperforms expectations in the Hoosier state, he may see many more party bosses easing over to Trump’s side of the gym. On the other hand, if that happens Cruz will have more time
Facing long odds in Calif., Cruz courts state’s Republicans Presidential candidate Ted Cruz made a plea to the California Republican Party on Saturday to line up behind him in the state’s June primary in his uphill battle to stop front-runner Donald Trump from grabbing the nomination. At the same party convention that was the backdrop for chaotic protests against Trump on Friday, Cruz tried to woo party members with support for their long-time issues, such as lower taxes and a harder line on immigration. Former California Gov. Pete Wilson gave Cruz his endorsement as he introduced the senator from Texas. Cruz received more
applause at the convention than either Trump or third-place candidate Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who also spoke on Friday. “If we’re fractured and we’re divided, Hillary Clinton wins and the campaign is lost,” he said, referring to the Democratic Party’s front-runner in the Nov. 8 election for the White House. Now mathematically eliminated from securing the nomination on the first ballot at the party’s convention in Cleveland in July, Cruz aims to stop Trump from receiving the 1,237 delegates needed to win the nomination outright, forcing a contested convention.
to work on his sports metaphors (see: “basketball ring”) or complain about John Boehner who called him “Lucifer in the flesh.” Which, by the way, is a great band name. 2. CLOCK MANAGEMENT: Many moderate Democrats have been quietly stewing over the Bernie Sanders candidacy, and I think they’re about to get loud. The unexpected surge of support for the liberal Vermonter forced Hillary Clinton to shift farther left than some strategists think wise. Now they want her to get back to her general election game plan, which is all about the seizing the political center. If she hammers him in Tuesday’s vote, watch for her surrogates to renew their cries for Sanders to be benched. 3. THROWING ELBOWS: As predicted, the effort to dump Trump on the Republican side has lost a good bit of energy in the wake of his latest wins, but that seems to have only inflamed the opposition among Democrats. In California it got rough, as last week wound down with hundreds of protestors surrounding a Trump speech venue. I suspect we’ll see more of the same this week even as the candidate, as always, basks in the glow of the headlines that follow.
Cruz GETTY IMAGES
However, the prospect of him being able to do so has grown increasingly slim. Trump, a billionaire businessman and former reality TV star, has continued to notch up wins in the nation’s nominating contests, including a five-state sweep of the latest string of contests last Tuesday. Cruz has downplayed the severity of the losses and in his speech Saturday looked forward to upcoming contests, which he has said will put him on the path to thwarting Trump. “California is going to decide this Republican primary,” he said, referring to the state’s June 7 contest. they swipe left. To keep your matches swiping right, here are the photos you should delete ASAP — and why.
1
Don’t promote your pals
Nearly every profile has photos with friends uploaded, but the truth? Putting your pals in your pics means you’re not prioritizing yourself. Studies prove that solo shots are what get the best results, and at eFlirt, we agree. If you want to show off your social life, crop pictures (so it’s clear someone else was there), and choose photos with a fun environment to give the vibe you were out and about.
2
Be selective with your selfies
When you’re on a dating app, your matches are choosing to chat with you (or not) because of your photos. When I search with my clients, I notice that if there is one single bad photo,
Speaking of your social life, posting mostly selfies tells your matches that you don’t have one. And I know that’s not true! If you have more than one or two selfies, start deleting. Keep the ones that are not only great shots of you, but also give a sense of
personality or lifestyle, like a gym or beach selfie.
3
Keep your shirt on
You’ve got a great bod, and that’s awesome. But leave a little air of digital mystery, too. Delete any shirtless shots or bikini photos … but do keep full-body pics so matches can check you out. That said — a little cleavage never hurt.
4
Cool it on the filters
Adding a filter to a pic can spice it up, but it can be hard to know what you really look like in the light of day. Get rid of filtered photos and go au naturel.
5
Don’t get stuck in the past
Online and offline congruence is important when dating — you want to look like you will on a date. For example, remove any photos where your hair is different, or where you’ve noticeably weighed less or more. Own the you of today, because confidence is sexy.

But getting a foot in the door doesn’t guarantee it won’t slam shut on your big toe. Selingo offers his advice on how to not squander a golden opportunity. Here’s how to turn that internship turns into a full-time gig. The advice we often hear about getting hired is simply to ďŹ nd a way to stand out. But that can be
tricky for interns whose jobs entail getting coee or making copies. People who do what is assigned to them, with seriousness, those people are going to get additional responsibilities, and they’re going to get noticed, especially if they show some initiative. You have to be humble. I think if you take the early assignments seriously, they would give you additional responsibility. There’s a ďŹ ne line between taking initiative and overstepping your bounds. How can interns avoid crossing it? You really need to study

and gauge the culture of a place so that you’re not tone deaf to what’s going on. You need to think, “What value can I provide that would be helpful to the organization?â€? It’s really about understanding the culture of a place, and picking those lower-level things off your boss’ plate. What are some mistakes you see ďŹ rst-time interns making on the job? Too many college students think that they should be running the place, sometimes as an intern. They think that they have the best ideas and they don’t take what they consider menial assignments seriously. That doesn’t leave their managers or bosses with a good taste in their mouth. How can career changers or older interns who’ve already had workplace experience stand out? You need to separate what you’ve done from what you’ve learned. Think about how what you’ve learned contributes to your soft skills. Jobs today essentially look for the same skills over and over again. They look for people who can communicate, written and verbal. They look for problem-solvers. They look for organizational skills. So look at
the skills set someone is looking for and think about how what you’ve learned and how you’ve learned it can contribute. What should you do if you had a great internship experience but didn’t get hired? Definitely maintain that relationship. I have a personal story about this. I interned at U.S. News & World Report right after college. I really wanted to get hired there and I didn’t. But one of the mentors of my life continued to work there. I kept in touch and over time, it became less about trying to get a job there and more about helping with career advice. Just because you don’t get hired at a place doesn’t mean that place, or somebody there, can’t be helpful. So if you don’t get an internship, are you doomed? You have time. In the meantime, manage your own learning so that you’re constantly investing in your human capital. Increasingly there’s a new learning economy [MOOKS, online tutorials] that’s emerging beyond what we think of as traditional education.

DURANT FREE AGENCY TO CELTICS MIGHT NOT BE WORTH TRADE RISKS The Vertical’s Kevin Mannix more or less confirmed that Celtics president of basketball ops Danny Ainge will get a meeting with Kevin Durant this summer. Ainge will undoubtedly have to make the greatest pitch in the history of pro sports free agency to lure Durant to Boston. This is not Pat Riley wooing LeBron James to Miami, as Revere Beach is not exactly South Beach. It’s the same amount of cigarettes and tattoos but the overall scene is vastly different. Plus, remember that the Heat already had Dwyane Wade — a top five player at that time — in place. Isaiah Thomas is wonderful, but he’s not “Wade in 2010” wonderful. The only way Ainge can make Durant get real about Boston is if he already has two superstar sidekicks in place. Mannix even went so far as to name those players: Chicago’s Jimmy Butler and Atlanta’s Al Horford. Landing Butler would be difficult in that the Celtics would most likely have to trade away the first round Nets pick that Boston fans have fallen in love with. Horford, meanwhile, did not exactly wow anyone here with his play in the first round against the Celtics, but it’s been floated that Durant really likes Horford’s game. So that’s something. For the sake of argument, let’s say Ainge completes the difficult trade with Chicago and convinces Horford to come to Boston in free agency. Is that

really enough to get the big fish to come here, too? The Washington Wizards just hired a head coach (old OKC head coach Scott Brooks) for the specific reason of trying to get Durant to D.C. Washington obviously believes it has a chance in free agency because Durant is from the area and it has a solid young roster in place (John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter). Two years ago the Wizards also hired one of Durant’s high school coaches. That’s some stiff competition right there and, oh, there’s the entire rest of the league that will also be bidding for Durant’s services — including the Lakers, who historically always get a franchise player

during a great time of need. In other words, the last piece of the puzzle will be the most awkward one to fit for Ainge. If he whiffs on Durant, what if the Celtics are stuck with a team that has Butler and Horford as its top two players? That’s a team that could hang with LeBron and the Cavs in the
East, sure, but it’s still far from a title contender. The Celtics would also no longer have that young draft lottery stud to bring in thanks to the Butler trade and they’d be right back in no man’s land in the East. So this thing is going to be one huge game of risk one way or another.
Ainge has built up enough trust to attempt to pull this whole scheme off, mainly because he pulled off something similar before in acquiring Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. However, Ainge got those two to come to Boston via trades, and Garnett still had to be talked into it. The franchise-altering,
championship-starved Kevin we’re talking about this time will be hearing pitches from all angles, unlike Garnett. The reward of Durant is tantalizing, I get it. I’m just not so sure it’s worth the risk, especially considering the glorious position of strength the Celtics find themselves in right now.

The Patriots went into this weekend’s NFL Draft with some clear needs, and when the dust settled on Saturday there were nine new members of the team. So just how many of those needs were addressed? Most of them. Let’s take a look at who the Patriots took and why they did so. We’ll also look at one position of need the Patriots didn’t address. Cornerback – Cyrus Jones, Alabama (60th) It’s easy to look at players like Malcolm Butler and Logan Ryan and say the Patriots are set at cornerback. But that would mean not looking very far into the future at all. Both cornerbacks will be free agents after this upcoming season, and while there’s no reason to believe the Patriots won’t re-sign them, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Cyrus Jones, on the smaller size, listed at 5-foot-10, but plays a physical style and can play both man and zone. A major bonus that had

to sway him in the Patriots direction is his special teams capabilities. Jones was an excellent punt returner in college, and if that can translate to the NFL, it’ll take a load off Julian Edelman or Danny Amendola, who are key to the Patriots receiving corps. Oensive line – Joe Thuney, North Carolina State (78th) and Ted Karras, Illinois (214th) That the Patriots went out and took an offensive lineman with their second pick is no surprise. Addressing the offensive line is something New England put an emphasis on as soon as last season ended. Thuney is a versatile lineman who at this stage could be tried at the guard, tackle or
Quarterback – Jacoby Brissett, North Carolina State (91st) With Tom Brady currently suspended for the first four games of the season, the Patriots went into the draft without a backup quarterback to Jimmy Garoppolo. Now they have one in Brissett, a bit of a surprise pick in terms of where he went in the draft (most thought he’d go later) but had a great workout with the Patriots. Will Brissett ever throw a pass in a regular season game for the Pats? Who knows. But it might make Garoppolo more expendable if another team comes calling. Running Back - ? The one position many thought the Patriots would address and didn’t was running back. Utah’s Devontae Booker was available, but the Pats passed. As it stands, New England goes into the season with LeGarrette Blount and Dion Lewis as their two main backs, with James White and Donald Brown also in the mix. But as we saw last year, if injuries hit, they’re in trouble.
