3 things you need to know NSA CHIEF CONCERNED ABOUT POSSIBLE US ELECTION HACKS

1

American intelligence agencies are concerned about reports that foreign governments may be attempting to undermine the Nov. 8 U.S. elections through cyber attacks, Admiral Mike Rogers, the director of the National Security Agency, said on Tuesday. “We continue to be actively concerned,” Rogers told a Senate hearing, responding to a question from Sen. John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. Marcel Lettre, Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, testified that the government is taking any such activities “quite seriously” and said an “aggressive investigation” is under way. McCain noted that one of the two states in which media reports said there was evidence of attempted Russian hacking was his home state, Arizona. REUTERS

ADELE IS NOT PLAYING A FREE CONCERT AT QUINCY CENTER STATION

2

Goodbye from the other side: There will be no free Adele concert at the Quincy Center T Station, despite a fake Facebook event claiming the Grammy Award-winning artist would take to the stage there Wednesday night. The event, started by a Facebook page called “Usual Suspects,” (falsely) advises fans that the “Hello” and “Skyfall” singer will perform at 6 p.m. Wednesday, along with special guest Train — get it? Well, OK. Obvious as the prank may seem to some, it did prompt MBTA Police to issue a “SCAM ALERT !!!!!” advising fans to “not show up for Adele” for fear it may lead to “public safety issues.” As of noon Tuesday, the concert had over 300 people RSVP, though it’s likely a substantial portion of those were registered ironically. Others, though, appeared to express genuine excitement. CHRIS CAESAR

NC LOSES COLLEGE SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS OVER ‘BATHROOM’ LAW

3

The governing board for U.S. college athletics said it will move seven championship sporting events out of North Carolina to protest a state law it deems discriminatory to transgender individuals. It is illegal for anyone in the state to use a public restroom that does not match the gender they were assigned at birth. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) cited the law in its decision to relocate the events, which include the first two rounds of the “March Madness” men’s basketball playoffs. Two months ago the National Basketball Association moved its 2017 pro All-Star Game from North Carolina to New Orleans for the same reason. REUTERS METRO’S NEWS QUIZ

The sudden shuttering of ITT Technical Institutes around the country earlier this month left thousands of students educationally stranded, but some are getting back on track thanks to state and local initiatives. The Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT) in Boston has reached out to former ITT Tech students and extended its fall registration deadline until Sept. 16 to give them the opportunity to continue their education. When ITT Educational Services closed down its flagship institute, some 40,000 students nationwide were displaced. “We’ve been getting calls [from former ITT students] and have had people just walking in saying ‘I need help,” said BFIT President Anthony Benoit. “We’re also doing some outreach ourselves to let local people know that we’re here and we can help.” BFIT is a nonprofit college that offers Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in technical fields and focuses on placing students in jobs after they graduate. The institute has about 500 current students, which is equivalent to the enrollment in ITT’s Massachusetts campuses, Benoit said. “Anytime you see a disaster happen, you say, ‘What can I do to help?’ We definitely felt a certain responsibility,” he said. Katy Abel, the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education’s associate commissioner for external affairs, said that

there is precedent for the higher education system coming together in times of crisis to get information and resources out to students quickly. When computer learning centers closed in 2001, she said, there was a similar response where community colleges, state universities and public institutions got together to decide how they could help. “We received no advance notice of ITT’s closure plans, as required by the Board of Higher Education, to ensure timely and appropriate transfer opportunities and preservation of student records,” said Carlos E. Santiago, commissioner of higher education, in a statement. “We are working with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office to assist students who have been displaced. I am also consulting the leadership of our public colleges and universities to see if we can offer information and referrals for ITT students who wish to continue their education.” Gov. Charlie Baker recently announced the creation of a Massachusetts Department of Higher

Education website aimed at former ITT students. The site, Mass.edu/ ITT, lets former students know how to apply for a closed school loan discharge, transfer credits to another institution, request their transcripts and even attend ITT Student Assistance Workshops. At those workshops, hosted by Attorney General Maura Healey’s office and the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, students can talk to representatives from state, community and nonprofit colleges. Benoit explained that the school loan discharge is a way for students who

do not apply their credits to another school to “go back to zero.” “In some cases, that’s a very good choice for a student,” he said, adding that he’s personally excited to see, however, that some students are set on finishing their education. “They’re upset that they’ve been derailed, but to their credit they’re very much focused on moving forward,” Benoit said of the students who have enrolled in or inquired about BFIT since the ITT closure. “They’re looking for that good job that’s at end of the road.” And that’s the bigger point here, according to Benoit: There are plenty of jobs for these students. So many, in fact, that the state struggles to fill these positions because there aren’t enough educational opportunities to get residents into those technical roles. “I hope that one of the things that comes out of this is that we recognize the need for more legitimate pathways of this sort,” Benoit said. “I certainly want more and more people to know that the opportunity exists here [at BFIT].”

A Saugus mother pleaded guilty on Monday to raping two boys and sharing nude photographs of herself with them in 2014, according to the Essex District Attorney’s office. Heather Salines, 40, was sentenced to four years in state prison followed by three years of probation, during which she must be monitored by a GPS bracelet, have no contact with the victims, have no unsupervised contact with children under 16 years old and register as a sex offender. The charges she pleaded guilty included two counts of child rape, two counts of child enticement, two counts of dissemination of obscene matter to a minor and one count of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years or older. Salines accosted one of the victims, who was 14 at the time, while he was a guest in

her home in February 2014, according to the DA’s office. She called him into her bedroom, removed her bra and began to kiss and fondle him. She repeatedly asked to perform oral sex on him and after he left her home Salines bombarded him with text messaged which included naked photographs of herself, officials said. The victim did not respond to the texts or return to her home. Salines then began to exchange text messages, including nude photographs of herself, with another victim who was 15 at the time in March of 2014, officials said. She engaged in oral sex and intercourse with this victim twice, including once at a hotel where the two took a “selfieâ€? in bed together, according to the DA’s office. Police were alerted after officials at the Belmonte Middle School learned of the explicit images on the victim’s phone. “These actions are beyond despicable,â€? said District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett in a statement. “This defendant took advantage of her position as a trusted adult and betrayed that trust in a most vile way.â€?

Free negotiation workshops for women return to Boston this fall Women working full time in the U.S. are typically paid 79 percent of what men earn, and that gap is even wider for women of color. Boston aims to change this inequity by once again sponsoring salary-negotiation workshops. Mayor Marty Walsh launched the city’s first salary-negotiation workshops last year in partnership with the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and the Office of Women’s Advancement. The workshops are available at no cost to every woman in Boston. “Last September we launched the first salarynegotiation workshops in partnership with AAUW, with the goal of getting one step closer to closing the gender wage gap in the city of Boston,” Mayor Walsh said in a statement. “One year later we have seen that not only is there a significant demand for

ISTOCK

these types of opportunities for women to learn these skills, but that the workshops are making a real difference, training over 1,500 women in the first year.” The city of Boston and the AAUW have a five-year partnership aimed at training 85,000 women—half of the city’s female workforce. The gender pay gap starts just one year out of college and intensifies over the course of a career, according to information gathered by the city. The AAUW Work Smart salary-negotiation workshops are free and

begin in the fall. The sessions are two hours long and focus on four key skills: making sure women know their value, how to identify a target salary and benefit package, know their strategy and “practice, practice, practice.” “I am excited to see the impact this will have on empowering working women in Boston and closing the gender wage gap, both in Boston and beyond,” said Megan Costello, executive director of the Office of Women’s Advancement. AAUW President Patricia Fae Ho said that these workshops are necessary because “equal pay should not depend on where you live or where you work.” Workshops will be provided in every neighborhood throughout Boston and attendees will also be invited to participate in networking opportunities afterward. Democrats expect Senate will oppose Obama on Saudi 9/11 bill The Democratic leaders of the U.S. Senate said on Tuesday they expected the chamber would vote to override President Barack Obama’s promised veto of a bill allowing relatives of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks to sue Saudi Arabia. It would be the first override of an Obama veto since he took office in January 2009. The “Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act,” known as JASTA, would remove sovereign immunity, preventing lawsuits against governments, for countries found to be involved in terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. nationals. The Saudi government, which strongly denies responsibility, has lobbied against the bill. But some members of Congress have become increasingly restive about relations with Saudi Arabia, long an important player in U.S.

Middle East policy. Harry Reid, the Senate’s Democratic leader, said he supported the measure. “They’re not one of my favorite countries,” he said of the Saudis. Richard Durbin, the No. 2 Senate Democrat, said, “We’re all on the record supporting it, so at this point I think it’s a heavy lift for the president to have his veto sustained.” A White House spokesman said in a briefing on Tuesday it had received the bill, but did not offer updates about timing of a veto. The Constitution gives the president 10 days after receiving a bill to veto it before it automatically becomes law. REUTERS

Paul Combetta and Bill Thornton repeatedly invoked their constitutional right not to incriminate themselves during about 10 minutes of questioning while under oath before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Two computer technicians declined to answer questions from U.S. lawmakers on Tuesday about the unauthorized private email system that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton used during her tenure as U.S. secretary of state. The investigation of Clinton’s email system has become a troublesome issue for her presidential campaign, with Republican rival Donald Trump saying a recent finding by federal investigators that she mishandled classified government secrets in her email should disqualify her from office. A third technician, Bryan Pagliano, did not appear at Tuesday’s hearing despite a subpoena from the committee ordering his testimony. Lawmakers can jail people who defy congressional subpoenas. email servers soon after she left the State Department in 2013. They invoked their Fifth Amendment protection from self-incrimination to each question from lawmakers and Jason Chaffetz, the committee’s Republican chairman, excused them out of what he called “respect” for their rights. Elijah Cummings, the committee’s most senior Democratic member, expressed sympathy for the technicians, saying the Republicans were only trying to use them to embarrass Clinton. Chaffetz criticized Pagliano, who managed Clinton’s server while she was the nation’s most senior diplomat, for not complying with the subpoena and said the committee would decide after the hearing whether to punish him. Pagliano, who joined the State Department with Clinton but also was paid privately by her for working on her server, was given a

form of immunity from prosecution in 2015 for cooperating with a federal investigation into the mishandling of classified information over the server. Clinton has said she regrets using the system in her New York home’s basement for work. Voters have repeatedly said in surveys the decision contributes to a feeling she is untrustworthy. The hearing was one of a series called by the committee’s Republican leadership to answer questions the lawmakers say have been left unanswered by a report released this summer by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. FBI director James Comey said in July there was evidence that Clinton and her staff may have broken the law with their “extremely careless” handling of classified government secrets but concluded there was insufficient grounds to prosecute. GOSSIP

Internet idiots think Kurt Cobain is alive and living in Peru Dear users of the internet: You are dumb. This weekend you thought Hillary Clinton had a body double. Now you think Kurt Cobain is alive and well and living in Peru — as a Kurt Cobain impersonator. In a new, predictably awesome conspiracy theory — made semilegitimate by reliably hysterical and longheadline-writing British tabloid Daily Mail — it’s claimed that Cobain faked his death, hopped down to South America and is now living a happy life as Ramiro Saavedra, a man who looks nothing like Cobain and, oh, is 32 years old. That means Cobain, who took his life in 1994 at the age of 27, has managed to age only five years, and also look Peruvian. It’s weak sauce that should never have escaped the depths of Reddit. Instead it got big enough that Nirvana’s Facebook page had to

write a sarcastic post addressing the issue: “It is true, Kurt is alive. He needed time to learn to play the guitar with his right hand. Finding left-handed guitars is not easy. We are so happy to have him back and forgive him for all of the sadness that we have held so deeply in our hearts.” To theorists’ credit, Saavedra does sound a lot like him, as heard in a performance of “Come as You Are” dug up from 2012. And for the lunatics who have taken over the internet and made it a

miserable place to hang, perhaps that’s enough.

The dream of the ’90s is still very much alive for one half

of the “Boy is Mine” duo — but for the other, the only thing alive is the drama. On the Season 3 premiere of “The Real,” Monica responded to Brandy’s recent Twitter diss by saying it didn’t bother her at all, and that she would definitely collaborate with her old singing partner in the future. To brief you on the Twitter triflin’: A fan had tweeted at Brandy, asking if she would participate in Monica’s #Sogone challenge, and all Brandy said was, “Chile, bye.” But for Monica, her beef with Brandy is in the past: “Honestly, the old me and the new me are two different things,” she told Loni Love on “The Real.” “This journey of self-progression and self-love and empowerment that I’m on, I can’t go backwards.” Monica also praised Brandy, saying, “I’ve

always thought that she was one of the most legendary people and has one of the most amazing voices” and waxed nostalgic about the “very special time” back when she, Brandy and Aaliyah were all close. Well, Brandy took Monica’s olive branch and basically set it on fire. On a now-deleted Instagram post, she wrote some pretty petty hashtags that were clearly about Monica: “#IknowTHEREALStor yThatEverybodyDoesn’ tKnow and #PositivityIsTheOneThingYouShouldNotFake.” Maybe the writing was on the wall. This verse from their old hit is more relevant than ever: “You can say what you wanna say / What we have you can’t take / From the truth you can’t escape / I can tell THE REAL from the fake.”

Drake buys out his noise problems Drake has apparently solved his noise-complaint problems for a cool $2.85 million. In Future’s monster hit “Where Ya At?” Drake revealed the people next door don’t always enjoy his superstar lifestyle in the line, “I’ll buy the neighbors’ house if they complain about the noise.” And because the party doesn’t stop, even with his much-debated “Hotline Bling” moves, the hip-hop star did the only thing he could — buy the property next

to his Hidden Hills mansion in California. Real estate website Trulia describes Drake’s new digs as a 1955 ranch-style home with four bedrooms and five bathrooms, calling it the “ultimate example of California cool.” Conveniently, this also means there’s now room for Rihanna’s entourage — that is, if they want to spend some more time together. Not that they’re together. OR ARE THEY? Maybe?

Phoebe WallerBridge of ‘Fleabag’ talks saving guinea pigs and sex on TV You can’t do that on television ... or can you? JENNIFER LOGUE @jenniferlogue

jennifer.logue@metro.us

“Fleabag” is a new show that falls somewhere between the quirky, relatable humanity of “Bridget Jones” and the naughty, in-your-face raunchiness of “Girls.” Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who wrote and created the series, is also its female lead — an outwardly confident, beautiful and hilarious character who harbors

a hidden darkness. We got to chat with Phoebe about the show’s origins and why killing guinea pigs is not cool for TV but anal sex totally is.

What was it like transitioning from a stage show to television? Sort of like hitting my head really hard against a wall for a year.

How were you initially inspired to write “Fleabag”? The genesis of [“Fleabag] was that I was asked to write a onewoman show for a 10-minute slot in a London theater by a friend of mine. When that 10 minutes was written, a couple of people said we should take it to Edinburgh, and we got a slot in the Edinburgh festival.

Is “Fleabag” inspired by real-life experiences? To some degree it was a very personal piece. A lot of the anecdotal things either almost happened to me or did happen to me. Or that I kind of imagined would be hilarious if they happened to me. Like my friends and family are very healthy and alive. There’s a lot of people sort of in it in spirit but no portraits or anything.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge stars in the new series “Fleabag,” premiering on Amazon Prime Video on September 16. AMAZON STUDIOS

Do we ever learn your character’s real name in the show? Yeah. I knew that “Fleabag” was going to be the title of the play, and in turn, it would be implied that that’s her name. Yeah, she doesn’t have a name. I kept thinking if I called her something it would be “Sarah” or “Annabelle.”

petite for female sexual candor. “Girls” blew the doors open for that kind of thing. It builds to something and it means something and it’s not just her flinging words around for shock value. She uses that candor to gain control. There was one thing they wouldn’t let me do in the play, which was kill the guinea pig.

The show premiered overseas on BBC Three in July. Were they cool with you covering raunchier subject matter like anal sex? They loved it. They love all that stuff. I think there’s been a real ap-

guinea pig. Do you think American audiences are more prudish when it comes to sex? The thing about “Fleabag” is that it’s the language that’s really explicit. I think that actually does shock people more. What was really important to me was that there’s no kind of nudity or tits or ass in it, because it’s about the power of the language. I guess they’re used to seeing people having sex more than people just talking to us directly about it. “Fleabag” premieres on Amazon Prime Video this Friday, Sept. 16.

Oh my God. Yeah, that wouldn’t fly. Yeah, they were like you can do whatever you like, but you cannot kill the guinea pig. BBC saved the BILL BLUMENREICH PRESENTS

Beauty trends you’ll be stealing long before spring

Fashion Week played to both extremes. The spring 2017 shows are coming to a close, and while the see-now-buy-now trend is giving you instant access to your runway wish list, there’s an even faster fix to next season’s biggest trends. Here are five gorgeous beauty looks we spotted on models — all so of-the-moment you’ll want to break them out this weekend. RACHEL RACZKA

Your go-to look for band recital got casual chic updates at Brock Collection and Marissa Webb. Twist and tie back hair away from the face for a look that’s effortless but polished. At Marissa Webb, TRESemme stylist Jeanie Syfu aimed for “achievable drama,” using the hair care brand’s Extra Firm Control Mousse to prep damp hair before blowdrying with a paddle brush. She then parted the hair down the middle, twisting back the top sections starting at the ears, before securing the ponytail at the nap of the neck.

Get shagged

Be negative

The beach wave is nothing new, but shaggier, shorter, jaunty layers give the look new life. Models at Alexander Wang had their locks chopped, bleached blonde and given messy beach waves by Redken creative director Guido Palau. Their surferinspired cuts were paired with minimalist, sun-kissed glows from Nars.

Negative space nails make the traditional French manicure cool again. Tanya Taylor, Creatures of Comfort and Rebecca Minkoff all featured manis with bare bases and a slender swipe of color either at the tip or the base line. What makes the look pop is cheeky color choices and placement — there’s nothing “ladies who lunch” about this extremely cool, low-maintenance update.

Ditch your liner Lower lash lines got a break this season, with the likes of Band of Outsiders, Jason Wu and Tommy Hilfiger going for an undefined eye. Instead, the basically bare looks put an emphasis on extremely healthy, glowing, plump skin. Maybelline’s Grace Lee, who led artists at Band of Outsiders, says she kept her models freshfaced and dewy by applying the brand’s Dream Cushion Foundation (out in January) with a damp sponge and using color corrector to tone out any imperfections.

SAM KIM FOR ESSIE

Textural pouts We can finally trade near impossible to wear anti-statement nudes for complex, layered lip colors that make a serious impact. DKNY’s sparkling smiles came courtesy of Pat McGrath’s glitter-packed Lust 004 lip kits, while two-toned lips (shaded in with two hues of hot pink MAC lip pencils) provided a come-hither effect at Cushnie et Ochs. Creatures of the Wind gave their matte lips a velvety finish, with lead makeup artist Mark Carrasquillo dipping a fluffy brush in pigment powder to dust over Nars’ red lip. So plush. PROVIDED

It’s an interesting time for DKNY. The brand was recently sold by LVMH to GIII Apparel Group and the fate of creative directors Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne is unknown. That said, Bella Hadid opened the show in a vampy tuxedo dress with plunging neckline and hoodie, and the message was clear: The DKNY girl

mesh biker shorts and bra tops with the label’s logo. The clothes, including several variations of baggy tech pants, were sporty and tough. And like the girl gang marching down the runway, they perhaps signified a willingness of the creative directors to fight for what’s theirs.

Tom Hiddleston gets dirty in “High-Rise,â€? a awed but noble movie version of J.G. Ballard’s 1975 novel. MAGNOLIA PICTURES

Good news, everyone: We might not have to think of Tom Hanks as a relic! It was touch-and-go for awhile there, as the only Hanks movies that hit were his stints in “Toy Story entries and as symbologist/ crime-buster Robert Langdon. It seemed our modern Jimmy Stewart might have lost some of his once-mighty stature. But then people actually saw “Sully, his Clint Eastwood movie, showing that people will still, in 2016, fork out for dramas that

The movie of J.G. Ballard’s darkly funny “High-Riseâ€? should have been the perfect ďŹ lm for 2016. The novel, hailing from 1975, drops in on the denizens of a fab new apartment building, whose gradual decay causes its inhabitants to turn to tribalism, murder, even dog-eating. And here we are right now, most of us letting our ids get unlocked by the internet, some of us even letting a madman candidate activate our worst instincts. Alas, the latest from Ben Wheatley

aren’t on TV. Why not celebrate with one of Hanks’ biggest triumphs? We honestly haven’t watched Steven Spielberg’s 1998 war grinder in ages, but the parts that are good (its opening Omaha Beach assault, that epic ďŹ nal battle) are for the ages. And you’ll get to grumble about the passing of an era when the No. 2 movie of the summer was a gruesome, tough-nosed, three-hour World War II movie, not just another toon about talking animals.

(“Sightseersâ€?) isn’t the perfect ďŹ lm for 2016. It doesn’t quite get the novel. But that, if you will, is OK. The ďŹ lm works as its own crazy, mischievous thing, with Tom Hiddleston, Elisabeth Moss and Sienna Miller leading the pack as richies who leap full-tilt boogie into chaos and destruction. Ballard deserves something even bleaker, but Wheatley has a knack for the kind of darkly comic sight gags that would have made even the gloomy author chortle.

A different kind of smart house Passive homes have made their way to Boston. MEGAN JOHNSON @megansarahj letters@metro.us

Forget confusing gadgets and robotic accessories. The “smart house” that’s changing the way homes are built is one that’s energy efficient. Called “passive homes,” these spaces utilize solar panels, ondemand hot water heaters, superinsulation and moisture barriers to cut their energy use, and cutting your monthly utility bills drastically. The Building and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston (BRAGB) is seeing more and more passive homes being built in the Boston area. Nick Falkoff, owner of Auburndale Builders and a BRAGB

Passive home features: 1. Insulation: At least twice as thick as today’s code requires. 2. Air leakages: No holes of any kind. Windows and doors are made with triple-pane glass. While they can be opened, that isn’t necessary in order to get fresh air. 3. No thermal bridges: No way for the warmth inside the house to get outside. 4. Face the south: All homes face south to optimize sunlight and external shading. 5. Fresh air: Through using an energy recovery ventilation system, fresh air is constantly pumped in, even with the windows closed.

AUBURNDALE BUILDERS

home member, is currently constructing a 4,500-squarefoot luxury passive home in Wayland. “Passive housing has been operational in Europe for over 25 years, and is becoming a serious consideration for people concerned about climate change, energy conservation and health in the U.S.,” says Falkoff, whose Wayland project, which will be completed in November, will feature an open concept layout, vaulted ceilings, oversized windows and seamless

door frames. First coined in Germany in 1991, a passive house doesn’t require a hot water heater to keep showers and faucets producing piping hot water. Instead, necessities like hot water are available “on demand.” Instead of holding hot water in the pipes, an on-demand or “tankless” hot water heater doesn’t turn on until you turn the faucet. The system pulls cold water through a pipe to a heating unit, and sends it to the tap or shower. Plummeting heating and cooling bills is the biggest incentive for

those considering building a passive home. With triple pane windows and double insulation, the home is keeping cold air out in the winter and constantly pumping fresh air in during the warm weather. Still, building one is still an expensive task. However, advocates say the benefits outweigh the higher costs. “There is a difference in cost building a passive house, but the difference is typically offset by the return on investment,” says Falkoff. “Many factors need to be taken into consideration when determining savings to the consumer, one of the least dis-

cussed benefits are health. Living in an environment where the air is always fresh and dust-free adds a level of benefit that is difficult to measure.” BRAGB’s CEO, Lorraine DeVaux, says green building will only become more prominent with time. “As the tremendous benefits of green building become more prominent and accessible, the demand for more efficient homes continues to grow,” says DeVaux. “Passive and energy-efficient construction is a natural evolution of this, and represents the future of the home building industry.”

Washington dared Antonio Brown to beat them, and he did. Handily. 126 yards and two touchdowns for Brown were matched by 155 yards and two more scores on the ground from DeAngelo Williams. The Steelers showed they’re just fine without Le’Veon Bell.

The Cardinals may struggle for a long time to figure out how they lost to New England. They outgained the Patriots. They won the turnover battle. They came up short. The real star for Arizona was 33-year-old wonder Larry Fitzgerald, who caught two touchdowns.

Most teams use a pumpup video to review last season. Kansas City decided to turn its opening game of 2016 into a microcosm of 2015. The Chiefs fell behind by 21 points to the woeful Chargers before a 17-point fourth-quarter rally dragged them into OT.

Matt Forte looked like the old Matt Forte in his New York debut, with 96 rushing yards and five catches. This was a heartbreaker for the Jets, with missed opportunities and field goals. The good news is a chance to wash the bad taste out of their mouth is coming this week vs. Buffalo.

The Jaguars gave Green Bay all they could ask for, which is a line you could have written about several Jacksonville games a year ago. The difference this year will be if those good performances start showing up in the win column, but this week was always going to be a tall task.

Kelvin Benjamin returned to the field, got his catches, and survived a hard hit. The Panthers were ready to defend the Broncos’ edge rushers they couldn’t handle in the Super Bowl. But the treatment — or lack thereof — of Cam Newton at the end of the game will be a black eye.

While Jordy Nelson’s longest reception being eight yards is hopefully not the new normal, Packers fans could rejoice to see him in the end zone again. Aaron Rodgers did exactly what you expect, but the defense did a surprisingly good job against a Jaguars offense that has bite.

Brock Osweiler and Lamar Miller took care of business in their Texan debuts. Miller ran for 106 yards and Osweiler threw two touchdown passes, but the surprise of the day was rookie Will Fuller, who caught one of those touchdowns and racked up 107 receiving yards.

The Vikings shook off a miserable start and — spurred by two defensive touchdowns including a 77-yard interception return by Eric Kendricks — put up 25 straight points with zero offensive touchdowns. Shaun Hill started, but we will see Sam Bradford in purple soon.

Someone look up how often in the past two seasons Eli Manning has tossed three touchdowns without any landing in Odell Beckham’s arms. It happened Sunday, and the game winner was reeled in by Victor Cruz, letting Cruz break into the salsa for the first time in two seasons.

Credit the Broncos for adjusting at halftime to the adjustments the Panthers had made following their Super Bowl defeat. Credit Trevor Siemian for pulling out the victory in his first start. Just don’t credit the refs for their performance re: illegal hits on Cam Newton.

That wasn’t the seasonopening performance you wanted to see from the Seahawks, injury to Russell Wilson or no. Going forward, that will be a big concern for Seattle. The positives are the defense limiting Adam Gase’s new team to 214 net yards and Arian Foster to 38 yards.

Is the road win against a quality opponent more or less impressive when you remember the Bengals let Andy Dalton get sacked seven (seven!) times? The Bengals didn’t seem to need receivers besides A.J. Green, who hauled in 12 catches for 180 yards and a score.

Don’t doubt the statement a young team can make by walking into a trap game, falling behind big, and then scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter (including one of the gutsiest two-point conversion calls in recent memory) to walk away with the win.

This was a shootout you could see coming from a mile away, and the Lions came away on top. Matt Prater smashed in a 43-yarder with eight seconds remaining that assured his earlier extra point miss wouldn’t cost Detroit (their four-point win was due to a safety).

More questions than answers regarding Gronkowski injury Rob Gronkowski was named a team captain last Tuesday. Five days later, the Patriots were without “Captain Gronk,” but still managed to upset the Cardinals in Arizona, 23-21. Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo surely could have used the most dominant receiving force in the game, despite the happy outcome. Now, the question shifts to whether or not Gronk will be available this coming Sunday at Gillette when the Patriots host a Miami squad that nearly went into Seattle and won in Week 1.

The Patriots have offered little on Gronkowski’s status as he recovered from a hamstring injury suffered 29 days ago, but Metro spoke with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Armin Tehrany, of Manhattan Orthopedic Card, Tuesday regarding the potential of Gronkowski’s return this coming Sunday. “A hamstring injury, if not treated properly with rest, can last up to six weeks for an athlete like Gronk,” Tehrany said. “It’d be much better for the team and for Gronk to only put him out on the field when

he’s 100 percent to prevent re-injury to the hamstring. He needs to complete the season.” Under this timeline, six weeks from the original injury, Gronkowski would not be “100 percent” until Sept. 26. The Patriots play the Houston Texans on Thursday, Sept. 22. They play the Bills in Week 4 on Sunday, Oct. 2.

ACLs We also asked Tehrany if ACL injuries are really the only “season-ending” injury in football these days and if we’re close to seeing a player,

say, tear his ACL in Week 1 but recover in time for a December run or the playoffs. “My opinion is that that thought process is really risky,” he said. “It’s a six- to nine-month ordeal right now and I definitely lean more toward the nine months … which means it’s still always ‘season-ending.’ Players don’t give themselves enough time to heal at that six-month period. They’re simply not ready, and they don’t perform as well. “For players who dislocate their shoulders, many players come back at four months. MATT BURKE

Rob Gronkowski is questionable for Week 2. GETTY IMAGES

Aries Do a little soul-searching and consider what’s truly important. A positive change in your love life will be the result of a personal change you make.

Libra Take the initiative to put your ideas and plans into play. It’s up to you to explore possibilities and make suggestions that can help you reach your goals.

Taurus Don’t feel the need to buy someone’s love. If you use your imagination, you’ll come up with a nice way to do something special for someone without spending much.

Scorpio You should put greater effort into making positive changes to your home or lifestyle. Certain changes will encourage you to grow emotionally and spiritually.

Gemini A partnership should be questioned. If someone is being emotionally manipulative, you are best off taking a step back and evaluating the relationship.

Sagittarius You’ll face a multitude of challenges if you expect too much or let someone make decisions for you. Focus on self-improvement.

Cancer Participate in events that make you feel good. Make domestic alterations that will enrich your life. Don’t let work come between you and a loved one.

Capricorn Making the right gesture or not acting on an assumption will play an important role in the way things transpire today. If you overreact, you could make mistake.

Leo Get busy and active. Emphasizing physical fitness and striving to reach your personal goals will energize you and give you incentive to work harder.

Aquarius Go after your goals and get involved in organizations or events that will help you bring about personal change. A medical issue will turn out favorably.

Virgo Use your knowledge and experience wisely. Take part in educational events or engage in activities that you can enjoy with a friend or your family.

Pisces Your emotions will take charge if you don’t allow enough time to gather the facts and listen to others’ suggestions and solutions. EUGENIA LAST
