GRIFFIN FIRED FROM CNN MYLAN MAY HAVE OVER- COMEY TO CONFIRM NEW YEAR’S EVE SHOW CHARGED US FOR EPIPENS TRUMP PRESSURED HIM

1

CNN said it has terminated comedian Kathy Griffin’s agreement to appear on the network’s annual New Year’s Eve broadcast after she drew strong criticism for posing in photographs with a fake severed head resembling President Donald Trump’s. CNN’s public relations department announced the decision in a Twitter post. Trump said earlier that Griffin “should be ashamed of herself” for the

photos showing her with a replica of a severed, bloodied head resembling his. “My children, especially my 11-year-old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this. Sick!” the president said in a Twitter message. The Secret Service has opened an inquiry into the posting of Griffin posing with the severed-head replica. REUTERS

The U.S. government may have overpaid drugmaker Mylan by as much as $1.27 billion between 2006 and 2016 for its EpiPen emergency allergy treatment, the Department of Health and Human Services said. The amount is nearly three times a proposed settlement that the company announced in October. The analysis on the EpiPen payments, which was conducted by the Department of Health and Human

Services’ Office of Inspector General, was released by Republican Senator Chuck Grassley. Grassley is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which launched a probe of EpiPen pricing last year. The company said in October it agreed to settle with the U.S. government for $465 million after it was accused of improperly classifying EpiPen with the Medicaid Drug Rebate Program as a generic treatment. Former FBI Director James Comey plans to confirm reports that President Donald Trump pressured him to drop an investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia in congressional testimony, CNN said, citing an unidentified source close to the issue. The Senate Intelligence Committee said on May 19 that Comey, who was fired by Trump 10 days earlier,

would testify before the panel publicly at some point after Monday’s Memorial Day holiday. CNN said the testimony could come as early as next week. After Comey’s dismissal, news reports emerged that Trump asked Comey to end the Flynn probe during a February meeting in the Oval Office. REUTERS

NASA LAUNCHING PROBE FOR SUN’S ATMOSPHERE

5

A U.S. spacecraft set to launch next year will make a series of unprecedented dives into the sun’s scorching atmosphere to see how the star works and what can be done to better predict space weather events on Earth, scientists said on Wednesday. The Parker Solar Probe will have to survive temperatures as high as 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit (1,371 Celsius), impacts by supersonic particles and powerful radiation

as it circles as close as 4 million miles to the sun. Data sent back to Earth some 89 million miles away will help scientists figure out why the sun’s atmosphere, or corona, is hotter than its surface. “We’re going to be seven times closer [to the sun] than any other mission has ever been,” project scientist Nicola Fox, with Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Maryland, said during a broadcast on NASA TV. Wentworth students to test a tool they built for NASA at space center Students across the country were challenged to build something that will solve a modern space exploration problem. KRISTIN TOUSSAINT

There are a lot of problems to solve when it comes to exploring outer space, so sometimes even NASA needs help. That’s why the space agency asked college students across the country for solutions to out-of-this-world problems as part of its program called Micro-g NExT. This weekend, a team from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston will head to Houston to test what they developed. Thirtyone teams in total are testing their efforts at the NASA Johnson Space Center. Wentworth is the only New England school represented in the program. Micro-g NExT, which stands for Micro-g Neu-

ate students to design, build and test a tool to solve a “current space exploration challenge,”

according to the agency. Students had a choice between a few challenges to solve this year. The Wentworth students tackled the task of designing a device to collect “subsurface samples” from a celestial body. “We’re designing tools for the next generation of astronauts that are trying to take samples from asteroids, Mars, the moon, anywhere where there’s low gravity,” said Anthony Duva, a Went-

worth professor and the team’s faculty advisor. These samples need to be collected by drilling 8 inches down into rock. They help NASA understand the history of the celestial body and its internal structure. It’s a challenge for a few reasons, explained Kristen Lundebjerg, a Wentworth mechanical engineering senior on the team. “You’re limited in the size that you can carry [on a space exploration],” she said. “And you’re in microgravity, so the pieces will float around. Everything has to be tethered so that it’s usable.” The team’s design will be tested in the space center’s Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, a 6.2 million gallon indoor pool that NASA uses to simulate space’s microgravity for astronaut trainings. Though the concept sounds simple, it has high stakes, Duva said. “You’re trying to cut rock, so you’re going to need a sharp tool, but you have to come up with creative ways so the astronaut doesn’t cut their space suit,” he

said. “If the spacesuit is cut, they die.” Lundebjerg and her classmates test their design — which she said uses a commercial pneumatic drill with tether points and 3-D printed rubber “grabbers” to hold the sample, so it doesn’t get shaken up — next week. NASA will provide data and feedback so the students can make any adaptations necessary, and they’ll submit a final report to NASA by June 7. This program doesn’t just help college students get real NASA experience — they’ve been advised by NASA mentors, will be meeting with astronauts and will see the testing themselves. It also helps NASA, who can take bits and pieces from the different student designs to find a real-world solution. “However many teams are [testing] subsurface sampling, we all came up with a different design idea,” Lundebjerg said. “[NASA engineers] have the opportunity to combine all the ideas and make something great out of it.”

Mayor Marty Walsh has said that Boston will continue with its own efforts to combat climate change. NICOLAUS CZARNECKI, METRO

Walsh urges Trump not to withdraw from Paris climate agreement The mayor said even if the U.S. withdrew from the agreement, it would not hinder Boston’s environmental efforts. KRISTIN TOUSSAINT

After reports surfaced on Wednesday that President Donald Trump is expected to officially withdraw the United States from the Paris climate agreement, Mayor Marty Walsh said that the move would not deter Boston from continuing its own efforts to combat climate change. “The city of Boston is urging the president and the White House to reconsider,” Walsh said at a Wednesday news conference. “The Paris Agreement is a plan to protect the planet, protect America and protect Boston.” Trump tweeted on Wednesday that he will announce his decision over the next few days. Senior U.S. officials familiar with his plans told CNN that he is expected to pull out of the agreement. Walsh was joined at the news conference by the city’s Chief of Environment, Energy, and Open Space Austin Blackmon, Barr Foundation President James E. Canales, sustainability nonprofit Ceres’s CEO and President Mindy Lubber and others. If Trump does not reconsider, Walsh said, Boston will still forge ahead in its own efforts to be carbon neutral by 2050 and implement other climate protections. He noted that more than 190 countries, including China, have signed on the agreement, which sets deadlines for reduced emissions efforts. “When the U.S. signed on in 2015, Boston was there at the table because Boston was and is a world leader in climate change,” he said. “As a coastal city, we know what’s at stake.” Climate change ef-

forts are a critical part of Boston’s future plans and are included in the citywide plan Imagine Boston 2030 as well as Go Boston 2030 and the Climate Ready Boston reports. Earlier in May, Boston was named the most energy efficient city in the country for the third year in a row by the American Council for an EnergyEfficient Economy. Climate change efforts are important here, Walsh said, because “when we talk about heat waves and major storms, we talk about people losing their lives here in Boston.” Lubber noted that Boston could have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy in 2012. The obligation to safeguard the city is “extraordinary,” she said. “If the president goes forward and does act to pull us out of Paris, I would argue two things,” she said. “One, it is highly unfortunate, but two, it is not going to stop progress because of people like the mayor here in Boston and what we’re seeing around the world.” Of the hundreds of businesses and investors Ceres works with, Lubber said, all are calling on Trump to reconsider because of how devastating pulling out of the Paris Agreement would be to their businesses. A March study that analyzed Department of Energy jobs data found that out of every five energy jobs created, four went to clean energy and one went to fossil fuels. Retreating climate efforts would mean less job growth for Americans, experts said.

JetBlue to test facialrecognition system for boarding at Logan Airport Rather than holding a boarding pass or scanning your phone, you’ll be able to board by getting a photo taken of your face.

KRISTIN TOUSSAINT

Soon you may not need a physical boarding pass to get on your flight at Logan Airport. JetBlue announced Wednesday that it will be the first airline to use a facial-recognition system to board customers at the gate. Beginning in June, passengers flying from Boston to Aruba can choose to step up to a camera at the gate for a photo rather than scanning their phone or a paper boarding pass. The camera will snap a picture of the passenger’s face and match it to passport, visa or immigration photos in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection database to verify the customer and flight details. There will be two lines at the gate, one for customers opting into the facial-recognition testing and one for using a regular boarding pass and passport. JetBlue said that it chose the Bostonto-Aruba flight because it operates daily with a high amount of U.S. citizens, which provides the most opportunities to test the technology. JetBlue officials say the technology can help the boarding process run more smoothly and also enhance national security. “We hope to learn how we can further reduce friction points in the airport experience, with the boarding process being one of the hardest to solve,â€? said Joanna Geraghty, JetBlue’s executive vice president of customer experience, in a statement. “Self-boarding eliminates boarding pass scanning and manual passport

checks. Just look into the camera, and you’re on your way.â€? A screen above the camera will alert people when the facial-recognition boarding process is complete, and they can head onto the plane. The airline says this technology will help free up employees from behind the counter at the gate so they can better assist customers. JetBlue is collaborating with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and technology company SITA to test facial-recognition boarding. Jim Peters, chief technology officer of SITA, said in a statement that this “may prove to be a solution that will be quick and easy to roll out across U.S. airports.â€? The testing program begins June 12 and will run for 45 to 90 days. The airline will review the results for the photo-matching success rate, speed and customer usability before expanding the technology to other flights. Though the airline says this is the first use of such technology in the boarding process, it isn’t the only area of airline travel for which facial-recognition technology can be implemented. Delta announced earlier this month that it will launch a self-service bag drop that uses facial scanning. Instead of giving your luggage to a Delta employee, you would check it yourself as a computer scans your face, CBS reported. That pilot program will be launched at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport this summer.Â

Guy Cooking with Best Buddies Celebrity Chef Food and Wine Festival, June 2, 6 - 9 p.m., Harvard University, Cambridge, $100 - $135, gcwbb.org

Guy Fieri and Tom Brady want to bring you to Flavortown The Food Network star is back in Boston for the Best Buddies charity events. MATT JUUL Guy Fieri is bringing Flavortown to Beantown this weekend when he teams up with Tom Brady again for the annual Best Buddies charity festivities. For the second year in a row, the “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” star is hosting a food and wine festival with more than 30 of New England’s top chefs, and the event coincides with Friday’s celebrity-filled football challenge at Harvard Stadium. The fun precedes Saturday’s bicycle ride in Hyannisport, with proceeds from each event going to benefit Best Buddies International, the world’s largest nonprofit dedicated to helping people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The cause is close to Fieri’s heart, as his cousin Doug has an intellectual disability and has competed in the Special Olympics. While he’s excited to be back in town, don’t expect to see the food fanatic on the gridiron during Friday’s game. “I’ll be out there to say hello to everybody, but everybody’s got their jobs and their responsibilities. I’ll probably be stuck over in the kitchen doing what I do,” Fieri says. “Also, I don’t want to get stuck trying to cover [Julian] Edelman.” We chatted with the Triple D star about this weekend’s charity events and (ahem) why his surprisngly healthy personal diet isn’t all that different from Brady’s meal plans.

The food and wine festival debuted at the Best Buddies event for the first time last year. What are you guys cooking up that’s new for 2017? We had been talking about it for quite a while. When I first started with Buddies, it was just helping out with a menu and cooking out front on a barbeque. Then it just continued to grow, getting all those Boston chefs to support it, so it’s awesome! I think [it’s going to] become a really recognized food and wine festival.

and passion for food and family. It’s always been one of my favorite places to go. Foxwoods was a really nice opportunity and I partnered with a really good friend of mine, [Foxwoods president

Tom Brady will take the field on Friday. GETTY IMAGES

Between this event and your new restaurant at Foxwoods, you’ve been spending a bit of time in New England. Any plans to expand into Boston? My wife is from North Providence, and one of my cousins lives in Boston. I just love the energy. Boston is one of the greatest of all towns with so much history

and CEO] Felix Rappaport, and Felix and the Foxwoods team donated a bunch of money last year and this year to the Best Buddies program. So, right now I think that’s fulfilling the need, but who knows. My buddy [chef] Michael Schlow is pretty successful with his restaurants in Boston, and I like the way he does food and operates. So there could be something in the future. I’m just happy to have what I have. What are some of your

favorite restaurants that you like to check out when you’re in Boston? Oh boy. You say one of them and everyone gets upset with you. Of course, all of Schlow’s joints are great. Rino’s in East Boston is a great place. Jay Hajj’s joint over by City Diner. Listen, you just can’t go wrong. You previously said that you’d be down to open a restaurant with Brady, who’s known for his strict diet. What would that menu look like? Tom, he’s a phenomenal athlete and he’s mindful of what he eats, how he eats and when he eats. You don’t get as great as you are without being on your game… I think Tom probably enjoys and eats a lot of the ways I eat. I love raw food. It’s just great food. When you’re working with quality ingredients and treating it with respect, and you’re being mindful of how they’re best utilized, that’s when you get the best out of them. You take your really great vegetables and you just treat them with respect and cook them the right way. Take them with your whole grains and proteins. Protein doesn’t

mean there has to be meat. It would be a lot of fun. He’s a California guy, but he’s so rooted in New England that if he did end up opening up spots — big scale, small scale, whatever it may be — I think he would do incredibly well. I’ve told him it before and I’ll tell him it again, if he ever wanted my help with it, I would be willing and happy to help him. Speaking of healthy eating, you’ve been looking pretty lean and mean yourself these days. I’ve been a whole grain, greens, salads and vegetables guy for probably longer than anybody would ever understand. Twenty years ago, I’d probably have pasta three times a week to now maybe having pasta one time a month. I just know what makes me feel better when I eat. My family and the way we eat, the way my parents eat, we eat very sensibly. Not that we don’t all enjoy chicken Parmesan, but the reality of it is, when you got my kind of schedule and work the way I work, I have to be very mindful of what I’m eating and all that kind of stuff. People want to believe that it’s all pizza and corn dogs and burgers, but I’m a real sensible eater. I really enjoy Asian food, a lot of Japanese. Seaweed salad and a miso soup, man, that’s it. I know people hear that and go, “Come on!” It’s the straight truth.

What you’re about to hear almost didn’t happen. Portugal. The Man drops it’s new record Thursday, kicking off its tour at the House of Blues in Boston, but the album and show have been a long time coming. The band hadn’t put out a record since 2013 and the record label was starting to get nervous — for a band that’s somehow managed to crank out about an album a year since 2006, that’s a pretty big gap. It wasn’t that the rockers weren’t producing, as they wrote and eventually trashed over 100 songs, but the band was struggling to find its vision. Inspiration struck in the form of a ticket stub. Lead singer John Gourley was digging through some old things at his

ing on and started from scratch. We sat down with guitarist Eric Howk to talk more about making the album “Woodstock.” Why did it take four years to put out “Woodstock”? We were trying to do the Prince or Michael Jackson approach and write as many songs as we could — 100 or so — and then find the vision. Ultimately that wasn’t how it was go-

ing to work for this band. So how did you find your vision? The final track kind of describes how we did it. “Noise Pollution” is about cutting through social media and the fact that everyone is in arguments all the time. The song is about hitting mute on all sides, and in a similar way, we had to do that getting down to the core material on this

Woodstock has a loaded meaning in pop culture. Why did you choose that name for the album? We saw Woodstock as time of renewed consciousness. A time to have eyes opening again, looking around the world and seeing what was happening — there was a lot of fear mongering, of McCarthyism, of the Nixon presidency and we definitely see similarities of the political climates of then and now. But there’s a lot of pushback and hope on this record too. Are you making connections with the activism of the ’60s with this record? It’s not a completely literal record. It’s not

It acknowledges just that we’re in a different spot than we were four years ago, as a band and as a country. Is that vibe incorporated into the sound as well as the lyrics? Yes, and there’s definitely a lot of Mike D [of the Beastie Boys] influence, Missy Elliot, Motown and solid ’90s hip-hop. Coming in from an insideroutsider perspective, just knowing the guys, there have been a lot of curve balls over the years, but on this album there are clearly sounds that this band never really dabbled with [before].

Ann Romney wants to get your brain and body fit She’s emceeing the Move for Minds event at Equinox. MATT JUUL Ann Romney knows all too well just how important exercise is in maintaining proper neurological health. The former Massachusetts first lady was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1998. To help others battling with neurologic diseases, she’s teaming up with Maria Shriver’s Move for Minds event in Boston to promote brain and body fitness and to raise funds for the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement. Romney will lead an intimate panel discussion on the topic with lifestyle and health experts at the event, which will also include a fitness class aimed at improving the mind and body through cardio workouts and meditation. A marketplace will be on

site as well, where attendees can learn more about brain healthy nutrition. We chatted with Mitt Romney’s better half about the event, plus how she used exercise to help with her MS. How important is exercise when it comes to brain health? I found maintaining a regular exercise schedule has been a huge benefit to my health. The class at the event is designed to challenge your brain to figure out and learn new movement patterns to stimulate neuro transmitters in the brain. Enhancing this with cardio vascular exercise either separately or in conjunction, increases oxygen and blood flow supply to

What do you hope people take away from Move for Minds? I want people who suffer from neurologic diseases to know that there is hope. Genetics are not your destiny. There are lifestyle choices you can make now that can protect your brain as you grow older. Move for Minds will explore many of those lifestyle choices, we hope many will join us in this journey.

Indigo Beach Colony PERDIDO KEY RESORT MANAGEMENT

Head to Florida’s Panhandle for natural beauty and a great deal to see it all on Perdido Key. ED CONDRAN When most folks think about the Florida Keys, the images conjured are of the most southern islands, such as Key West and Key Largo. However, there are some gorgeous keys in the most northwestern part of the Sunshine State. The best of both worlds can be found on Perdido Key, which sits just off the Florida/ Alabama border. The private-island feeling you’re looking for in a vacation is definitely present — perdido is Spanish for “lost,” after all. Yet it’s all less than half an hour from historic downtown Pensacola. The barrier island

stretches 16 miles from the edge of Pensacola to Perdido Pass Bridge. The powdery white sand beaches and the rolling dunes are covered with seat oats and make this a pristine oasis along the rapidly developing Florida Panhandle. Perdido Beach is reminiscent of Saint Petersburg’s Fort De Soto Beach, which was one of Florida’s best kept secrets until magazines around the world gave the national park considerable coverage in recent years. Nature-lovers will find much to enjoy here. Like Fort De Soto, Perdido Beach is home to many species of exotic wildlife,

Perdido Key has acres of unspoiled Florida wetlands. ISTOCK

including the endangered beach mouse and sea turtles. Perdido Key is a paradise for birders, with seagulls, skimmers, terns and pelicans sharing the white quartz sand and clear blue water alongside bathers.

Island eats For restaurants on the island, Flora-Bama should be at the top of your list. The charming dive bar, which opened more than a half-century ago, is a local favorite. The seafood is as fresh as you’d expect; go spicy with the firecracker shrimp tacos, tossed in sweet chipotle ranch dressing with

vinegar slaw and topped with lime sour cream. The Bushwacker cocktail will have you feeling the mellow island vibes. Hub Stacey’s offers an array of huge, inexpensive and delicious sandwiches. Messing with a classic is always risky, but Hub Stacey’s take on the Cuban sandwich subs in Gouda cheese and adds banjo ham to great effect.

Where to stay To have your own secluded slice of this island paradise, make your home base one of the luxe condos run by Perdido Key Resort Management, which operates

several properties on the island, from beachside cottages to luxury highrises. They also all have something you won’t find elsewhere on the island: a perks program called Keys to Fun. Think of it as an island-wide two-for-one promotion for golfing, deep-sea fishing, sunset cruises, dolphin watching and even admission to the Waterville USA water park. Basically, if you’re going on a fishing tour, one person in your party sails free and only the other has to pay. Or, if you’d like a little alone time on your vacation, each member of your group can experience a different

attraction independently for free.

Back on the mainland If you’ve got the time, spend a day in downtown Pensacola. The National Naval Aviation Museum, the world’s largest, is free to visit, but sign up for a tour guide. More than 150 restored aircraft are on display, including the Que Sera Sera, which is the first aircraft to land at the South Pole. On the beach, climb the 177 steps to get to the top of the Pensacola Lighthouse, which offers a dramatic view of the Gulf Coast.

‘Avatar’ comes to life at Disney

Na’vi River Journey is the new all-ages ride at Pandora: The World of Avatar. ALL PHOTOS GETTY IMAGES

The world of the 2009 film is rendered in exquisite detail.

Orlando’s Animal Kingdom theme park takes visitors inside Pandora.

Walt Disney World has just opened its first new theme park area since the expansion of Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World back in late 2012. The new section, Pandora: The World of Avatar, is a natural fit into the jungle-themed world of Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando. Inspired by the world of James Cameron’s 2009 film “Avatar,” the attention to detail in Pandora is beyond belief.

The floating mountains will make visitors feel as though they are on another planet. Pandora also opened with two new rides. The first is a traditional dark ride, the slow, familyfriendly Na’vi River Journey that takes visitors on a gentle, musical journey through the Valley of Mo’ara. The more spectacular ride is Avatar Flight of Passage, where you glide on the back of a mountain banshee. There’s also a new canteen called Satu’li, and a bar called Pongu Pongu, both serving food and drinks themed to the film. But it’s at night that Pandora: The World of Avatar really comes to life with light shows in-

cluding “Rivers of Light” that finally premiered on Earth Day, April 22, 2017, after an almost yearlong delay. And count on the world of Pandora to grow: Cameron recently announced that he is making four sequels to “Avatar,” with the first set to be released in December 2020. Elsewhere at Disney World, the Magic Kingdom also recently introduced its own new fireworks spectacular, “Happily Ever After.” Though Disney’s Hollywood Studios remains open, it’s undergoing a massive expansion to create new lands devoted to “Toy Story” and “Star Wars.”

PRICE RETURN JUST WHAT THE SOX NEEDED

OPINION

DANNY PICARD

@dannypicard

The initial result wasn’t great, but the significance of David Price’s return to the Boston Red Sox cannot be overstated. Price made his season debut on Monday in Chicago. He left the game with a no-decision after allowing three runs in five innings. The three runs came on a Melky Cabrera three-run home run in the third inning that gave the White Sox a 3-1 lead. The right-handed Cabrera crushed a firstpitch 95-mph fastball middle-in. Price didn’t have picture-perfect command in the game, and that was just one example. But he did showcase a fastball in the mid90s that should please anyone who’s hoping he can stay healthy for the rest of the year. Since Price signed with the Red Sox before last season, he’s been a somewhat controversial pitcher in Boston. He’s not the easiest player to root for, and the mystery behind his sore left elbow in spring training certainly didn’t help his cause. Especially when he told the media in March that if he were “22 or 23 years old” doctors would have recommended elbow surgery. Price, 31, was scratched from his first spring training start this year, and he has slowly ramped it up since then. From “putting a ball in flight” to making his final minor-league rehab stint last week, the question wasn’t, “Will we see Price return this year?” Instead it was, “When he returns, how long will he be back for?” His consistent velocity in the mid-90s on Monday was an encouraging sign. And it confirms a certain level of health that Price and the team were obviously looking for when they announced he would be ready to make his season debut after al-

David Price is next scheduled to pitch Saturday night at Baltimore. GETTY IMAGES

lowing six runs in his final rehab start for TripleA Pawtucket. Price didn’t talk to the media immediately after that game. But his velocity was also reportedly in the mid-90s. The fact that nobody was concerned about Price’s stat line afterward was a clear indication that the goal was to reach back and turn it up to the highest notch for the sole purpose of seeing how he feels the next day. And well, the next day, it was announced that Price was ready to return to the Red Sox’ rotation. Monday’s season debut wasn’t his best start. But it was good enough to convince me that Price should have a huge impact on the 2017 season. Think about it. Whether you like his sometimes thin-skinned and insecure personality, the Sox just added another starting pitcher who has Cy Young potential. Take away the $30 million per year, and you’re looking at an All-Star caliber lefty who can still be an ace in this league. Last year -- his first season with the Red Sox -- his velocity was down at times, seemingly lower than it was when he was dominating for Tam-

pa Bay, Detroit and then Toronto. He wasn’t his overpowering self last season by any means, but still ended up 17-9 with a 3.99 ERA and 228 strikeouts. Questions remain about his personality and how it meshes in Boston, and he’s still looking to rid himself of the postseason demons. But in a league where starting pitching is the key to success, there aren’t many teams adding this type of arm to the top of their rotation in June. Add him to a group that already has a dominant Chris Sale, a coming-into-his-own Eduardo Rodriguez, and a reigning Cy Young Award-winner in Rick Porcello, and you have one of the more dangerous starting rotations in all of baseball. Now, Price just needs to stay healthy. If he can do that and keep his velocity in the mid-90s, then this could be the most important in-season addition the Red Sox make all year. I WANNA BE LIKE GRONK Rob Gronkowski looked like a beast at OTAs this week, and with a new contract laced with incentives, Gronk could very well smash his single season tight end records (touchdowns, receiving yards). It seems like he’s been around forever, but Gronk is still just 28 years old. He’s also apparently a role model now. At the NFLPA Rookie Premiere, NFLPA officials told the pro football rookies to “be like Gronk.” “Some people think [Gronk] is just this extension of a frat boy, and

that it’s sort of accidental,” NFL Players Inc. President Ahmad Nassar told The Boston Globe. “And that’s wrong. It’s not accidental, it’s very purposeful. So the message there here is, being ing really ly good at branding is when you don’t even feel it. You think, ‘Oh, that’s just Gronk being Gronk.’ Actually, that’s his brand, but it’s so good and so ingrained and so authentic, you don’t even know now it’s a brand or think nk it.”

File under u firstworld wor problems, but we now have a cure for sports c fans fan with swamp ass (via Urban Dictionary: “A Dict common condition comm in whi which the ass crack crotch becomes and crot sweaty and stinky overly sw sweating on a hot from swe day”). Thankfully, you can Thank now buy “Swamp Butt Underwear” at Swamp Butt.com for a cool 19 bucks. The underwear

absorbs everything embarrassing. You see this a lot from middle-aged dads at Fenway during the humid days of July and August, but it also affects dads during Little League games. From a SwampButt press release: “Last year an umpire totally blew it at third base and wrongly called my 9-year-old son out in front of what I assume was at least six major league scouts,” said a father that wished to

remain anonymous. “It was a ridiculous call and that ump deserved to know what an idiot he was. But it was a hot day and I didn’t want to show the group of moms behind me how much butt sweat was visible through my shorts. So I just booed while seated. It was so frustrating. But now thanks to Swampbutt Underwear I’m able to stand with confidence and tell those umpires that they suck. Thanks SwampButt!”
