PAROLE HEARING FOR OJ ANNOUNCEMENT ON ANY RUSSIA SAYS SANCTIONS SIMPSON SET FOR JULY 20 COMEY TAPES THIS WEEK WILL NOT ALTER COURSE

A parole hearing for former football star O.J. Simpson, serving time in a Nevada prison for a 2008 Las Vegas robbery and kidnapping conviction, has been set for July 20 in Carson City, the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners announced on Tuesday. The proceeding will mark the second such hearing held for Simpson, who was acquitted of the 1994 murder of his wife and her

friend, since he was sentenced to as much as 33 years for his role in a bungled attempt to recover memorabilia from his storied sports career. If granted parole at next month’s hearing, he will not be eligible for release before Oct. 1, state parole officials have said. REUTERS

President Donald Trump is expected to make an announcement this week about the existence of any tapes of conversations between him and former FBI Director James Comey, the White House said on Tuesday. “The president has said that he will make an announcement on this. I expect it this week,” White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters at a news briefing. Spicer was

responding to a question about whether there are tapes of the conversations with Comey, whom Trump fired last month, and whether they would be turned over to the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee, which is probing allegations of Russians meddling in the 2016 U.S. election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign. New sanctions imposed by the United States on Russian companies and individuals over Moscow’s role in the Ukraine crisis will not affect Moscow’s policy, RIA news agency cited Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov as saying on Tuesday. “We are convinced that we are right. … We will pursue our course steadily and consistently,” he said, according to RIA. The U.S.

government on Tuesday sanctioned 38 individuals and organizations over Russia’s actions in Ukraine, the U.S. Treasury Department said, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to pressuring Moscow over its annexation of Crimea.

AG wants 16-foot buffer zone around Queens women’s health facility for protection from pro-life protesters For the past five years, pro-life protesters have aggressively harassed patients, children and workers entering and leaving Choices Women’s Medical Center in Jamaica. NIKKI M. MASCALI @MetroNewYork

Unwanted physical contact. Verbal abuse. Cyberbullying. Death threats such as, “You don’t know when you might get shot.” These are things many women around the world face on a daily basis, but a new lawsuit aims to at least end such harassment for the patients and staff of a women’s health facility in Queens. A new federal lawsuit was filed Tuesday by New York Attorney

“I have endured bomb threats, death threats, multiple evictions and the maiming and murder of colleagues and friends. And I am still here because I made a vow to my first patient and to myself — that I would always be there for women and girls who came to me for services.” A new lawsuit aims to create a “buffer zone” around the Choices Women’s Medical Center in Queens. General Eric Schneiderman against a group of pro-life activists who have, for at least five years, aggressively blocked access and harassed workers and patients alike at the Choices Women’s Medical Center in Jamaica, among other forms of harassment, every Saturday morning. Like many abortion clinics and women’s health centers around the country, Choices is

regularly subjected to protests by activists who use First Amendment protections to literally shove their message in the faces of women and staff entering the facilities. “The tactics used to harass and menace Choices’ patients, families, volunteers and staff are not only horrifying — they’re illegal,” Schneiderman said in a statement. “The law guarantees women the

right to control their own bodies and access the reproductive healthcare they need, without obstruction. We’ll do what it takes to protect those rights for women across New York.” The goal of Schneiderman’s lawsuit, which comes after a yearlong investigation, is to not only prohibit protesters from harassing Choices’ patients, staff and volunteers, but to also create a 16-foot “buffer zone”

around the facility “to protect women’s fundamental rights,” Schneiderman tweeted. In another tweet, the attorney general said he worked at an abortion clinic after he graduated high school and, as it was preRoe v. Wade, “I still remember the fear many women had,” he wrote. For Merle Hoffman, the founder and CEO of Choices, the attorney general’s lawsuit and safe space creation has

been a long time coming. “I have been on the front lines of this struggle for women’s rights and women’s freedom for nearly 50 years,” she said in a statement. “I have endured bomb threats, death threats, multiple evictions and the maiming and murder of colleagues and friends. And I am still here because I made a vow to my first patient and to myself — that I would always be there for women and girls who came to me for services.” Founded in 1971, Choices’ services focus on women’s reproductive health, offering a range of gynecological testing, birth control, abortion, prenatal and other healthcare services. It also provides services for the LGBTQ and senior communities that include behavioral health and counseling, nutrition and basic preventative care.

Discrimination still alive and well for many LGBTQ New Yorkers: Survey New York City may be the epicenter of the Gay Pride movement, but that doesn’t exactly mean that discrimination against those in the LGBTQ community is nonexistent. In fact, it’s more common than many might think, according to a new survey from City Comptroller Scott Stringer’s office. The report intended to determine how government services and programs reach LGBTQ New Yorkers — or do not. According to the survey, which featured responses from 359 LGBTQ residents from all five boroughs: • 21 percent of total respondents felt they were

denied a promotion, fired or not hired for a job due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. • 42 percent of those who identifed as transgender or gender nonconforming believe they were denied a promotion, fired or not hired for a job due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. • 18 percent overall experienced homelessness at some point in their lives. At 40 percent, Hispanics experienced homelessness at the highest rate, followed by blacks at 27 percent and Asians at 23 percent. • 38 percent of transgender or gender non-conforming survey-takers

experienced homelessness. • Roughly 30 percent of overall respondents found shelter within the city’s homeless system. • 79 percent reported they felt very unsafe, while 11 percent said they felt unsafe, and the remaining 11 percent felt safe within the city’s shelter system. • 47 percent overall felt they were denied equal treatment or were harassed either verbally or physically in public due to their sexual orientation. Respondents cited public transportation as the main location of the harassment. • 70 percent of respondents who identified as transgender or gender

non-conforming reported being denied equal treatment or faced physical or verbal harassment in public. • 17 percent said they

notified authorities of the harassment. When it came to utilizing government benefits within the past five years:

• 18 percent obtained food assistance. • 12 percent used unemployment insurance. • 7 percent used HIV/AIDS services. • 5 percent used education and/or jobtraining benefits. • 4 percent used Supplemental Security Income. Stringer’s survey took place during May and June, and nearly half of the 359 respondents were between the ages of 18 and 34. Relieve yourself at this on-demand mobile bathroom in New York City “Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson will help you pee in NYC this week on the Charmin Van-GO. KATE MOONEY @yatinbrooklyn

kate.mooney@metro.us

We’ve all been there: Walking around some busy Manhattan neighborhood, we realize we need to use the bathroom and can’t find anywhere to go. If you’ve lived in New York long enough, you’ve picked up few tricks: Any Starbucks bathroom is a pretty reliable (if not reliably filthy) option, as is the Strand Bookstore’s if you happen to be in Union Square. But there are plenty of instances where you find yourself

out of luck. Charmin has a temporary solution to your woes: The toilet paper giant is piloting the firstever on-demand mobile bathroom in NYC. On Wednesday, June 21, and Thursday, June 22, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., two Charmin Van-GO vehicles will be making stops throughout Manhattan. Each van will have a private bathroom, and for a special treat, “Black-ish” star Anthony Anderson will also be aboard to charm you and allegedly crack a few potty jokes. (Don’t let being star struck give you stage fright!) “When I learned about Charmin VanGO, my first thought was, ‘Wow. New York City needs this! There have been too many times I’ve been on the go but couldn’t find a

clean and convenient bathroom,’”Anderson said in a statement. “It’s literally a bathroom delivered right to your footsteps.” Here’s how it works: Visit CharminVanGo. com to input your address and request a van. The vehicle will be

making stops in some of Manhattan’s busy neighborhoods, including Midtown near Bryant Park and Herald Square, Union Square, on the West Side along the High Line, and more. Because there are only two vans on the route each day, punctual-

ity and availability could be an issue — which kind of defeats the purpose of fast, convenient bathroom relief. But if this were rolled out as an everyday option, widespread throughout the city with multiple vehicles deployed, it has the potential to be

a reliable bladder-saver. Personally, we can’t imagine ordering a vehicle in which to do our business. Our current strategy is to steer clear of Manhattan bathroom deserts, with the Starbucks method as a last resort. Would you hail a potty, in a pinch?

New York City activist swims in solidarity for World Refugee Day “We need to remember our history: We are a nation composed of people who left difficult situations in search of something better,” said Christopher Swain. NIKKI M. MASCALI @MetroNewYork

nikki.mascali@metro.us

Christopher Swain has been swimming up and down the East Coast for causes like clean water and human rights since 1996, and on Tuesday, he took a dip in New York Harbor to raise awareness for World Refugee Day. The United Nations General Assembly creat-

ed World Refugee Day in 2000, and it has been observed on June 20 since 2001. This year seems more poignant than ever with more than 65 million people displaced around the world, creating the biggest refugee crisis since World War II, and President Donald Trump trying to ban travelers from mostly Muslim countries and refugees from entering the U.S. Because of that, Swain, a member of the U.N. Association of the USA, swam the 2 miles from the Statue of Liberty to Battery Park in the Financial District Tuesday afternoon. (Just last week, he swam 133 miles, the entire length of Long Island Sound and the East River, to call for a halt to sewage dumping in New York

waterways.) “As someone who is descended, in part, from Irish refugees who fled Ireland during the great famine of the mid-1900s, I feel a kinship with people who are leaving their homelands, through no choice of their own, in

search of safety and security,” Swain told Metro in an interview. Metro: Compared to some of your other swims, this one was fairly short, but does that make it any less dangerous? Christopher Swain:

Swimming in New York Harbor is always tricky. As a swimmer you have to manage the demands of tides, current, wakes from passing boats and ships, recreational and commercial traffic, not to mention sewage bills and floating trash. Metro: What sort of prep goes into a swim like this? CS: The notifications to the different agencies because I’m going to be swimming in the harbor are probably the most byzantine and confusing part of the whole thing. The fun part is being able to use the swim platform to reflect in some small way the arduous journeys over land and sea that refugees are taking every day. Metro: What do you hope was the takeaway of Tuesday’s swim for

World Refugee Day? CS: No one chooses to be a refugee. Everyone deserves safety, security and a place to call home. We need to remember our history: We are a nation composed of people who left difficult situations in search of something better. We shouldn’t hide from our history by closing the door on others who are doing the same thing. Metro: After this World Refugee Day swim, what is next for you? CS: I will look for ways to extend and expand my partnership with United Nations. I believe everyone on the planet has the same rights and the same dignity and deserves the same freedoms. Anything else is a recipe for conflict and division.

If you’ve hopped on the NYC subways recently, you’ve likely encountered your fair share of delays, underground halts and general stress over cancelled and rerouted trains. Unfortunately, it now seems to be par for course to go into your morning commute expecting trains so packed you have to wait until the next one. Now, one of the trains most notorious for lessthan-stellar service, the G train, also known as the “ghost train,” has teleported itself to — gasp — a top-ranking spot on the list of most reliable subway lines, based on new MTA data. Considering it’s one of the most despised trains in the Big Apple, that’s no small feat. The MTA looked at data for on-time performance through March of 2017 and found that

hardly any of the subway lines in the multiborough system run on-time. Surprisingly, though, they found that almost 76 percent of trains on the G line ran on time (75 percent is the MTA standard for “on-time” service). Better for the MTA but worse for soon-to-be stranded Brooklynites: The L train boasted 92 percent of trains showing up on time this year, as it approaches an imminent shutdown. The three shuttle lines (Times Square, Franklin Avenue and Rockaway) all ran at over 90 percent on time as well. The worst trains of them

all were the 2 line, the 4 line and the 5 line (which probably could have been guessed, for the latter two, by anybody who stands at the 86th and Lex platform during rush hour). The top three offenders only ran on time between 30 and 33 percent of the time. Everything else? Not so encouraging. Only 63 percent of trains arrived on time this year. Guess it’s either time to move to a stop along the G line or grab a really, really good (and lengthy) book for the morning grind. Though maybe walking to work would be more efficient.

That worker was also taken to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition. “Today was a beautiful example of people who are willing to risk their lives to save this 28-year-old individual,” Nigro was quoted by NBC4, describing the effort of the dozens of firefighters and rescue personnel who descended on the scene to help remove the debris and give medical attention to the trapped worker. Why Haven’t Senior Homeowners Been Told These Facts? Keep reading if you own a home in the U.S. and were born before 1955. It’s a well-known fact that for many senior citizens in the U.S. their home is their single biggest asset, often accounting for more than 50% of their total net worth. Yet, according to new statistics from the mortgage industry, senior homeowners in the U.S. are now sitting on more than 6.1 trillion dollars of unused home equity.1 With people now living longer than ever before and home prices back up again, ignoring this “hidden wealth may prove to be short sighted. All things considered, it’s not surprising that more than a million homeowners have already used a government-insured Home Equity Conversion Mortgage or “HECM loan to turn their home equity into extra cash for retirement. However, today, there are still millions of eligible homeowners who could benefit from this FHA-insured loan but may simply not be aware of this “retirement secret. Some homeowners think HECM loans sound “too good to be true. After all, you get the cash you need out of your home but you have no more monthly mortgage payments.

11 New York Wednesday, June 21, 2017

NO MONTHLY MORTGAGE PAYMENTS?2 EXTRA CASH? It’s a fact: no monthly mortgage payments are required with a governmentinsured HECM loan;2 however the homeowners are still responsible for paying for the maintenance of their home, property taxes, homeowner’s insurance and, if required, their HOA fees. Another fact many are not aware of is that HECM reverse mortgages first took

hold when President Reagan signed the FHA Reverse Mortgage Bill into law 29 years ago in order to help senior citizens remain in their homes. Today, HECM loans are simply an effective way for homeowners 62 and older to get the extra cash they need to enjoy retirement. Although today’s HECM loans have been improved to provide even greater financial protection for homeowners, there are still many misconceptions. For example, a lot of people mistakenly believe the home must be paid off in full in order to qualify for a HECM loan, which is not the case. In fact, one key advantage of a HECM is that the proceeds will first be used to pay off any existing liens on the property, which frees up cash flow, a huge blessing for seniors living on a fixed income. Unfortunately, many senior homeowners who might be better off with HECM loan don’t even bother to get more information because of rumors they’ve heard. That’s a shame because HECM loans are helping many senior homeowners live a better life. In fact, a recent survey by American Advisors Group (AAG), the nation’s number one HECM lender, found that over 90% of their clients are satisfied with their loans. While these special loans are not for everyone, they can be a real lifesaver for senior homeowners like Betty Carter, who recently took out a HECM loan with AAG so that she could finally get the extra cash she needed to fix up her house. “With the help of AAG, I have been able to repair my home’s foundation that I had been putting off for several years, refinish the hardwood floors, paint the interior and will have the exterior painted within a few days.

FACT: In 1988, President Reagan signed an FHA bill that put HECM loans into law. My house is starting to look like my home again and it feels good, says Carter. The cash from a HECM loan can be used for any purpose. Many people use the money to save on interest charges by paying off credit cards or other high-interest loans. Other common uses include making home improvements, paying off medical bills or helping other family members. Some people simply need the extra cash for everyday expenses while others are now using it as a “safety net for financial emergencies. If you’re a homeowner age 62 or older, you owe it to yourself to learn more so that you can make an informed decision. Homeowners who are interested in learning more can request a free 2017 HECM loan Information Kit and free Educational DVD by calling American Advisors Group tollfree at 1-800-791-7033. At no cost or obligation, the professionals at AAG can help you find out if you qualify and also answer common questions such as: 1. What’s the government’s role? 2. How much money might I get? 3. Who owns the home after I take out a HECM loan? You may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover when you call AAG for more information today.

So the automaker is moving it to China instead. It will happen after the last production cycle in 2019. “Consumers care a lot more about the quality and the value than they do about the sourcing location. IPhones are produced in China, and people don’t really talk about it,â€? said Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president of global operations. Trump hadn’t commented six hours after the announcement, but the clock is ticking. On the campaign trail, he vowed to slap a 35

percent tariff on goods American companies produce overseas. But Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross seemed unfazed by the move. He said Ford’s plan “shows how flexible multinational companies are in terms of geography and that he expected foreign companies to reciprocate. “I believe that as President Trump’s policies and reforms take hold, more companies will begin to locate their facilities in the U.S. as several German and Japanese automakers already have, he said. More than 168,000 Focuses were sold in the U.S. last year. Ford expects the move will save them $500 million in production costs. Trump’s January boast that Ford was staying in the U.S. is not the first

time the president has exaggerated the state of the American job market on the campaign trail or in his administration. During the campaign, Trump said the “real unemployment rate was not 5 percent but 40 percent. In April, Trump said he had created 600,000 new jobs while in office. Why Knee Arthritis Sufferers Of Almost All Ages Are Opting For Newest Medical Procedures Before Surgery . . . Fraction of the cost, minimal risk and little to no downtime amongst top reasons By Matt Edgar America’s Health Writer New York City - Everyone has said it at one time or another. If I had only known about “this” sooner - things would be very different today. That’s what many knee arthritis pain sufferers are saying about this technology and treatment. “We all know that countless lives are being saved every year because of early detection and better treatment ” noted the clinic director at the NY Pain MD in New York City. “The same holds true for treating arthritis pain. I believe we are having so much success at NY Pain MD because of two factors: One is we are using advanced medical technology and treatments a lot of “If you have knee arthritis pain, viscosupplementation might be the answer you are looking for. The clinics do not use. And second, the word has keys are not wait, get a good evaluation from an expert and make sure precision arthritis targeting is spread to our community and so many knee used to make sure you have the best chance for success.” arthritis sufferers are coming in sooner. And the earlier we can treat knee arthritis the better the results. The key to trying to Can This Be Avoided? Total knee replacement is serious surgery avoid knee replacement surgery is doing the requiring months of rehabilitation. Some doctors think modern treatments correct treatment as soon as possibly” done early enough can keep baby boomers from going under the knife. What is the “correct treatment?” “That depends,” said the director. “There is no one answer when it comes to medical Normal Pain-Free Knee Joint conditions. nee arthritis is no different. This is similar to running your without oil. Obviously, the sooner you put oil back in the car - the less damage will be done. That’s why some doctors feel early vis Research Shows Doctors Miss The Joint Space Up To 30% Of cosupplementation gets the best results and is The Time Without Advanced Imaging so important for avoiding surgery. The director believes one of the most important factors for the success of viscosupplementation is making sure you are getting it into the joint space precisely. That’s why the doctors at NY Pain MD use advanced imaging technology to apply Precision Arthritis Targeting during every treatment. A device called the "C-Arm" allows the doctor to see into the joint and actually watch the medicine be applied exactly where it is supposed to. Research shows that performing procedures without Precision Arthritis Targeting (P.A.T.T.)can result in missing the joint space as much as 30% of the time. If you had viscosupplementation treatments without Presision Arthritis Targeting Technology and did not get good results - this may be why.

Failed Treatment The injection (Lubrication medicine) misses the joint space. Research shows this occurs up to 30% of the time without the use of the digital imaging to guide the injection. This is why lubrication medicine may not have worked for you

Modern Doctor's FINALLY Offering These Special Treatments Right Here In New York City Hundreds of arthritis sufferers from tri state area calling weekly to find out if treatment is right for them.Often covered by insurance. If you qualify for this treatment, it might be one of the happiest days of your life. That’s because, for the past year and a half, hundreds NY Pain MD of knee pain sufferers have New York City. That’s when their specially trained-doctors added cutting-edge arthritis treatments to their already successful comphrensive knee pain relief program. Viscosupplementation is unique because - eventhough it is manufactured by a pharmaceutical company, it is NOT considered a drug because it is a natural substance with an incredible story.

Why So Many Want It You see, when you suffer with arthritis - the lubricatThis means instead of gliding smoothly - your bones start to rub and grind against each other. This causes a little pain in the beginning - but over time the pain steadily gets worse until it is excruciating.

Like “Joint Oil” Viscosupplementation works so well because it is like ‘joint oil.” It is a natural substance that contains one of the natural building blocks of the synovial fluid that lubricates your knee. Scientists and researchers discovered this natural building block to synovial fluid in the rooster’s comb - that big red thing on top of the roosters head. It is extracted from the roosters comb, purified and concentrated. They have also developed medical lubricants that are also natural but made a bit like yogurt and "cultured" into highly effective arthritis pain-fighting medical lubricants. When introduced directly into your knee joint, it is like squirting oil on a rusty door hinge. Viscosupplementation allows your joints to glide more smoothly eliminating a lot of the rubbing, grinding and pain.

Can Supplements Do The Same Thing? No. Glucosamine and chondroitin and other supplements are much different. You can only get this from a doctor and it often helps knee pain sufferers who got limited or no success from glucosamine and chondroitin. Beware of unsubstantiated claims made by supplements to do what this advanced medical procedure does.

Why You Should Try This Even If You’ve Already Had Similar Treatments Without Results... “We have been able to help so many knee pain sufferers even many who have already tried other treatments like Synvisc, Supartz, Orthovisc and even Hyalgan. This is because our treating doctors always use “Precision Arthritis Targeting Technology”. This allows us to place he Viscosupplementation exactly where is needs to be. Studies show doctors doing joint injections without echnology can miss the joint up to 30% of the time.” noted the Director of Center NY Pain MD is a state of the art medical facility offering nly the best technology.

Advanced Medical Technology Can Make All The Difference: T Ňuorososcopic imaging allows doctors to see directly into the knee joint so supposed to. Studies show that procedures done without this technology can miss the joint up to 30% of This is one reason NY Pain MD uses this P.A.T. Imaging Technology. with each and every treatment. And that’s not all “Every case is individual. Some patients get quite a bit of relief right away - others take a little more time. But most have been extremely happy. We’ve noted results lasting no less than 6 months for many but up to 2 years for some patients.. Patients who were suffering for years with bad knee pain are getting their lives back... going for walks again and exercising. It’s amazing to see. They tell all their friends - that’s why we are swarmed. After getting treatment and feeling better, many patients have decided to cancel their total knee replacement surgeries.” added the director.

Pornhub: Comey and Sessions Senate testimony causes major fall-off in fapping Traffic to the prominent video site plummeted during the televised hearings.

Pornhub, the world’s largest site for adult content, reported that in Washington, D.C., traffic to their site plummeted when Comey took the stand. The former FBI director’s testimony began at 10 a.m. EDT, and site traffic dipped more than 10 percent at that hour. The same phenomenon occurred when current Attorney General Jeff Sessions testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 13. Sessions’ testimony began at 2:30 p.m. EDT and caused a 12 percent dip in D.C. Pornhub traffic. Pornhub points out that Comey had a quicker refractory period: After his testimony, traffic levels to the site recovered around 12 p.m., around two hours after his hearing began. But on the day of Jeff Sessions’ testimony, traffic didn’t return to a normal level until about 7:30 p.m., nearly five hours later. Potential explanations for the longer lag time abound. We’re seeing less of Sean Spicer because ‘he got fatter,’ according to one Trump staffer Steve Bannon calls out White House press secretary Sean Spicer. ERIN TIERNAN @ErinTiernan

erin.tiernan@metro.us

Press secretary Sean Spicer said on Tuesday he isn’t finished in his current role, contrary to media reports that the White House is searching for his replacement and looking to transition Spicer into a less visible role.

“I’m right here, so you can keep taking your selfies,” Spicer said in response to a question Tuesday from a reporter about rumors that his role at the White House could be changing. The White House com-

munications director quit last month, and Spicer said the White House was looking for people to fill some open positions. “We’re always looking for ways to do a better job of articulating the president’s message and

his agenda, and we’ll continue to have those discussions internally. When we have an announcement of a personnel nature, we’ll let you know,” he said. This latest rumor of his pending departure is just another on a long list of speculation about the end of Spicer — when exactly he will transition out of the press secretary role is still unknown, but his new position is likely to be a senior to both the communications director, who quit last month, and the press secretary, according to Politico. The long tradition of the White House’s daily press briefings has become a spectacle under the Trump administration, and Spicer himself has taken quite a bit of heat. Every day, millions of Americans tune in to the briefings for a glimpse of Spicer’s confrontational style — it’s even earned him a recurring sketch played by Melissa McCarthy on “Saturday Night Live.” Trump has often blamed his communications team for his embattled relationship with the press, even going so far as to say he was thinking about canceling them, tweeting, “Maybe the best thing to do would be to

cancel all future ‘press briefings’ and hand out written responses for the sake of accuracy???” In the six months since the Trump administration took over the White House, the daily briefings have begun scaling down. They have become shorter and less frequent, and recently the White House has downgraded them from “briefings” to offcamera “gaggles” where reporters are sometimes not even allowed to record audio. A White House official said Spicer is “sick of manning the podium,” the New York Post reported, but White House chief strategist Steve Bannon suggested another reason. When an Atlantic reporter asked Bannon why the briefings are now routinely held off camera, Bannon replied via text, “Sean got fatter.” Whether it’s frustration or vanity pulling Spicer away from the podium we may never know, but deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told Politico the White House was conducting interviews for new members of its communications team. Fox News contributor Laura Ingraham and Daily Mail editor David Martosko are rumored to be considered for the job.

Oil production platforms in the Gulf of Mexico could be hit by a developing tropical storm. GETTY IMAGES

Hurricane center: Tropical storm likely to form and hit US coast The storm could strengthen slightly before it reaches the coast. It extended warnings for the storm westward to High Island, Texas.

A weather system in the Gulf of Mexico has a 90 percent chance of becoming a tropical storm in the next day or two, threatening energy infrastructure as it advances toward Texas and Louisiana, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Tuesday. Currently located about 265 miles south of Morgan City, Louisiana, the weather system is expected to approach the southwest Louisiana coast late on Wednesday and move inland over western Louisiana and eastern Texas on Thursday, the hurricane center said in its latest forecast. It now has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, the Miami-based forecaster said. “Satellite imagery shows that the center of the disturbance is gradually become better defined, and it is likely that the system will become a tropical or subtropical

cyclone later today,” the hurricane center said. The storm, currently designated as “Potential Tropical Cyclone Three,” could also cause tornados later on Tuesday from south-central Louisiana to the western Florida Panhandle. The Louisiana Offshore Oil Port LLC said on Tuesday it had suspended vessel off-loading operations at its marine terminal as it monitors the storm system. Meanwhile, tropical storm Bret is expected to begin weakening later Tuesday and dissipate on Thursday. That storm, located about 315 miles east of Curacao and packing maximum sustained winds of 45 mph is moving west-northwest and will continue to proceed across the southeastern Caribbean Sea, the hurricane center said. ENVIRONMENT Portuguese PM asks emergency services for answers after 64 die in forest fire Firefighters struggled on Tuesday to gain complete control over Portugal’s deadliest forest fire on record which killed 64 people at the weekend, as Prime Minister Antonio Costa questioned the effectiveness of an emergency response system. Authorities said the fire in the mountainous region of Pedrogao Grande, which killed many people in their cars as they tried to flee the blaze, was 85 percent under control after more than 1,000 firefighters toiled overnight.

About 160 other people were injured in the blaze, about 125 miles northeast of the capital Lisbon, and which Costa said at the weekend was the biggest human tragedy in Portugal in living memory. Meanwhile, a separate fire, in the village of Gois further north, was very worrying, Victor Vaz Pinto, commander of the civil protection agency, said. With reports and witnesses’ accounts speaking of a slow response by the emergency services to the fire, which struck rapidly on Saturday, Costa asked authorities for a report on what went wrong. Kepler telescope finds 10 more potentially life-friendly planets

So far, these planets, which scientists refer to as “super-Earths” and “mini-Neptunes,” have not been found in Earth’s solar system, though scientists are on the hunt for a potential ninth planet far beyond Pluto. GETTY IMAGES

Astronomers added 219 candidates to the growing list of planets beyond the solar system, 10 of which may be about the same size and temperature as Earth, boosting the chances for life. Scientists found the planet candidates in a final batch of NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope observations of 200,000 sample stars in the constellation Cygnus. The candidates include 10 newly discovered rocky worlds that are properly distanced from their parent stars for water, if it exists, to pool on their surfaces. Scientists believe liquid water is a key ingredient for life. “An important question for us is, ‘Are we alone?’” Kepler program scientist Mario Perez said in a conference call with reporters. “Maybe Kepler today is telling us

“Maybe Kepler today is telling us indirectly ... that we are not alone.” Perez

indirectly … that we are not alone.” The National Aeronautics and Space Administration launched the Kepler telescope in 2009 to learn if Earthlike planets are common or rare. With the final analysis of Kepler data in hand, scientists said they will now work on answering that question, a key step in assessing the chance that life exists beyond Earth. During a four-year mission, Kepler found 2,335 confirmed planets and another 1,699 candi-

dates, bringing its tally to 4,034. That number includes about 50 worlds that may be about the same size and temperature as Earth. Including other telescope surveys, scientists have confirmed the existence of nearly 3,500 planets beyond the solar system. Kepler’s data also provided a new way to assess whether a planet has a solid surface, like Earth, or is made mostly of gas, like Neptune. The distinction will help scientists home in on potential Earth-like planets and better the odds for finding life. The Kepler team found that planets which are about 1.75 times the size of Earth and smaller tend to be rocky, while those two- to 3.5 times the size of Earth become gas-shrouded worlds like Neptune. Gal Gadot made how much for ‘Wonder Woman’?

Kim Kardashian doesn’t understand blackface, maybe Oh Kim, you sweet, innocent child.

Last week, Kim Kardashian announced that she would be releasing a new beauty line, KKW Beauty. She had a whole photoshoot with her own face to promote said beauty line. In the photos, she looks like classic Kim — slightly too small bra top, high ponytail, extreme contouring and supertan skin. So tan, in fact, that some people are alleging that she’s essentially wearing blackface. The 36-year-old apparently talked to the damn New York Times about the accusations.“I would obviously never want

Jon Hamm is more than just a face, OK? Jon Hamm, a man best known for “Mad Men” and airing out his um, “ham” in public, is handsome, I guess. If that’s what you’re into. But he wants to be known for more than just that. Apparently, Hamm was low-key offended when Edgar Wright, director of “Baby Driver” told The Guardian it’s hard to find dudes that are hot and also hilarious. “It’s rare to find a dramatic actor who’s also funny. Handsome people aren’t usually funny either.”

On Tuesday, Elle reported that Gal Gadot made just $300,000 for “Wonder Woman,” a film that is expected to earn $600 million globally this week. Before you start thinking, “Well, what wouldn’t I do for $300,000?” know this: Henry Cavill, a man with the face of white Zeus and the charisma of a

And man, that just ticked Hamm off! “That’s certainly not my experience,” the 46-year-old replied to the paper. “I bring more to the table than what I represent physically,” he says. “And it’s a daily struggle to prove that.” Life’s tough, isn’t it? “Obviously it’s a lovely thing for people to say … [I’m handsome], but sometimes it comes with a sh—y dig underneath.” Beyonce said it best: Pretty hurts. Although it seems pretty bad on the surface, the disparity between their salaries can be somewhat explained. Cavill’s $14 million earnings include bonuses for box office performance. The $300,000 was simply Gadot’s initial rate. Fine. Just make sure y’all give Gadot a comically large sized bag full of dollar bills whenever we get around to “Wonder Woman 2.” Because when it comes to charisma and the DC universe, she’s got Sad Ben Affleck and Handsome Mildew Towel Get it, girl. Kenya Moore reveals new husband already

Remember a few days ago, when Kenya Moore told all of us that she was married, but refused to tell us who, exactly, she was married to? Well now, the 46-year-old reality star has changed her tune. On Monday evening, Moore posted a photo of her new hubby, and revealed that his name is Marc Daly which — I must confess — is pretty anticlimactic. He does appear to be attractive, but only half of his face is visible, so

who really knows? More importantly, it looks like Moore waited to reveal his identity until she won a restraining order So much for against her ex-boysecrets. friend Matt Jordan. A judge made a decision earlier this month to grant Moore a one year restraining order against Matt. Moore reportedly started dating Daly, who owns Brooklyn restaurant SoCo, after breaking up with Jordan. Cool! Anyway, that’s that. A hearty congratulations to Moore, who was able to keep her husband’s identity a secret for like, four days.

You know what question Isabela Moner gets a lot? “Which Transformer is your favorite?” “I change it up,” says Moner, one of the young stars of “Transformers: The Last Knight,” with a chuckle. “I just say a different Transformer each time.” At least they’re asking the 15-year-old about Transformers. In the new film, the actress plays Izabella, a tomboyish orphan who joins up with Mark Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager as a war breaks out between GETTY

the Autobots and humanity. Historically, the brand — not just the new movies, but the old TV show and the Hasbro toy line — have been thought of as being exclusively for boys. But there have always

been girls who loved them, too — or if not Transformers, then other toys aimed at males. “I played with Hot Wheels,” Moner remembers. “I had two brothers, and those were the most interesting toys to me. I just gravitated towards them. No one told me to; no one told me I shouldn’t. I just kind of did. People should make those decisions based on what they’re drawn towards.” In her mind, segregating genders has always

been arbitrary, subject to change. She points out that in the 1900s, pink was considered a masculine color and blue was very much feminine. “We’re trying to break those stereotypes — hopefully in a nontrendy way,” Moner says. “Political movements can become trends, and that’s what we’re trying to avoid. We do not want equality to become a trend.” Moner’s career so far has shown that she can’t be reduced to one thing. She’s famous for her star-

Moner also has to put up with people being afraid of her. Recently, she posted a picture on Instagram of her at a premiere with the caption, “What do you mean, he’s just intimidated by me?” Fellow young star Becky G commented in solidarity, saying, “Story of my life.” The post came about after several of her friends were discussing all the boys who seem too terrified to talk to her. “I actually asked some boys what their impression was of me. They said, ‘I thought you were an alien. You carry yourself like you’re 30 years old. It’s like you’re from another world,’” she recalls. “I asked, ‘Do I come off as conceited?’ They’re like, ‘No, not at all.’ I never get a direct answer at all. So I’ve yet to find out.” “I don’t think I’m a scary person,” say adds. “Maybe it comes down to how I’m always traveling. I guess I’m going to make my dad happy by not dating till I’m 30.” Either way, she’s not worried about anyone turned off by her newly short locks. She cut her hair for “Soldado,” and has so far kept the short do. “I really like having it. Everything’s easier,” she says. “And it weeds out people who are more shallow. The idea is that guys don’t like girls who don’t have long hair. I’m like, ‘Good riddance to you.’ Me, I’m embracing it.”

ring role on the Nickelodeon show “100 Things to Do Before High School,” which ended last year. But she doesn’t want to be seen as only a child star. Her next film is “Soldado,” the sequel to the intense drug war drama “Sicario.” “On set, you deal with

a slight ageism, where your ideas on a scene are less respected,” she says. “Sometimes I’m not even listened to, because I’m a kid. I’m just supposed to do what I’m told. Everyone has to build respect for themselves. I’ve got to work extra hard to do so.”

as the neutral human, which is something I’m eager to upend.” Of course, in Shakespeare’s time, all of the roles would have been played by men. Not only is Pocket Universe reversing that precedent, the company is also placing its gender-flipped “Julius Caesar” inside one of the most volatile settings known to modern times: an all-girls high school. “There is no more epically emotional creature than the human teenager,” Gold explains. “Many of the themes of ‘Julius Caesar’ are directly related to teenagers: peer pressure, jealousy, isolation, the struggle to find a selfidentity within a group.” If this is all reminding you of a certain Tina FeyLindsay Lohan comedy, you’re not alone. “I’m surprised no one talks about ‘Election’ or ‘The Social Network,’ which explore power structures and relationships similar to those in ‘Julius Caesar,’ in the context of a school,” Gold says of the frequent comparisons between her play and “Mean Girls.” (Incidentally, that film is being

adapted for Broadway in 2018.) “Where those movies use the ideas of ‘Julius Caesar’ to explore how the story physically manifests itself in a contemporary school setting, we’re relying on [the Bard’s] specific words and poetry to explore how it manifests itself emotionally.” Gold knows a thing or two about that movie’s oft-cited “Julius Caesar” rant, since in addition to producing this show, she also stars as Brutus (aka the original Gretchen Weiners). “Brutus is the character who is both closest and farthest from me as a person, which makes her exciting to explore,” she says. “The first time I saw the play, I recognized the attempts to use logic to make sense of intense feelings — and, in do-

ing so, often missing the larger point — as something teenagers do. What it would be like if teenage girls could see a young woman going through it, too?” Ultimately, however, no one on the nearly all-female creative team wanted to let the show become kitschy, Gold says. “Rather than force the concept onto the text, we made sure the text was the guiding force in building this world. We sought further inspiration from the historical context and critical analysis of the play, and then worked to marry that with the high school experience.” Although it won’t always mean gender-blind casting, this is just the beginning for Pocket Universe. “Going forward, my company’s mission is to reconsider and reimagine classic stories and conventions, and there are so many ways to do that,” Gold says. “The most important thing for me is always making sure that the story is at the forefront, however we’re exploring it.”

Jake Gyllenhaal buys at 443 Greenwich

Add Jake Gyllenhaal’s name to the ever-expanding list of celebrities who’ve purchased at 443 Greenwich Street. The “Nightcrawler” and “Brokeback Mountain” star snagged an $8.63 million apartment at the Tribeca building through his Woodrow Trust, according to public records filed with the city Tuesday. He used the same trust, linked to Los Angeles business manager Warren Grant, to buy a house in the Hollywood Hills in 2005. The 2,868-square-foot apartment comprises three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms. It was asking $8.55 million. Gyllenhaal will be in good company. His neighbors include Meg Ryan, Harry Styles, Ryan

Reynolds and Blake Lively, and Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel. Jennifer Lawrence also owns a unit in the building, though she is renting it out, The Real Deal previously reported. Developer Nathan Berman, who converted the property from a book bindery to high-end condos, previously declined comment on purchasers, but said that 90 percent of the buyers at the former book bindery turned condo building are “household names.” While the location of Gyllenhaal’s previous New York home wasn’t clear, he did once rent to comedian Amy Schumer, who quipped that she stole a cake from his fridge. “The one thing that he did leave, because he really gutted the place, he left a frozen cake in his freezer,” she told Stephen Colbert in 2015. “It was very old. It was not edible. … I would get drunk and I would eat it and I would talk as if he were there and I was at the party that the cake was served at.” KATHERINE CLARKE

New York City, to join her — on one stipulation. “I called up Alana, and I’m like, ‘I’m gonna move to Nashville, but I think we totally need our own show,’ she remembers. “‘You’re the realtor, I’m the designer, and it sounds like an HGTV show.’ The rest is history. Ahead of Season 2, out July 12, the 35-yearolds share their tips on how to get started on DIY projects if you’re a newbie and easy tips to freshen up your home on a budget.

Brighten up your space “Paint alone can completely transform a space, says Lex. “A lighter color goes a long way to make the space feel larger, if you don’t have the natural light coming through windows, adds Alana. Another solution: wallpaper. If you’re a renter, try pretty removal patterns. For an even more affordable option, Lex says she once used pages from an old book to wallpaper her bathroom. Another simple trick to freshening up your space for free: rearranging a room. Growing up, Alana and Lex shared a bedroom, and “we used to move our furniture around every week, Lex remembers. “I knew we would be designers because we kept recreating our bedroom, like, for years.

Multiple small touches can add up to a big difference: Switch out your pillows, update rugs and curtains, she adds. Instead of buying a new dining table, “refinishing and giving new life to an old piece of furniture adds character to the space, and it’s also

affordable,” suggests Alana.

Expand your square footage Especially if you live in a city, finding ways to best utilize your space is essential for your sanity. A space-saving trick for homeowners: Use upper cabinets as lower cabinets. Lex explains that because floor cabinets are usually larger and deeper, if you swap those out for upper cabinets, you can make more room on the ground. Instead of upper cabinets, you can always go for floating shelves, which “give you more of an airy feel,” she explains. The duo are big fans of install-

ing wooden planks and pipe shelving. In the bedroom: Try vertical storage — shoe cubbies, even extra shelves — to get things off the closet floor. And the LeBlancs are fans of Murphy-style beds. “People don’t think about them that often, but they’re a real thing, and [ideal] for studio apartments,” says Alana.

How to get started What if you have ideas but don’t know how to execute them? “Not just because we have a show on HGTV,” Alana jokes, “but I love HGTV Magazine for easy, cost-effective DIYs that anyone can do.” They add that Pinterest is always a good

place for inspiration and how-tos. But don’t underestimate a trip to Home Depot. “They can cut the wood for you if you don’t have a saw,” Lex says — or even your local hardware store. “Ask them all the questions.” A word of advice for bigger renovations: “You have to have a clear, concise plan before you start any project. Have it written down,” Alana says. “If you can, have any materials or furnishings that are needed, ordered and on their way. Never demo a space without the materials almost there or on site already.” Season 2 of “Listed Sisters” premieres on Wednesday, July 12 at 11 p.m. on HGTV.

NBA rumors: Could the Knicks and Phil Jackson really trade Porzingis? The Knicks president might be run out of town if he decides to jettison his young superstar. JOE PANTORNO @joepantorno

joseph.pantorno@metro.us

We all have those moments as a child where we’re told not to touch the scalding-hot stove top by our parents. Yet, for some reason, there is always this ridiculous urge to touch it anyway. For some reason, Phil Jackson looks like he wants to touch the stove top while New York Knicks fans are screaming, even pleading, for him not to. On Tuesday, the Verti-

cal’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that New York’s president “isn’t ruling out” trading Kristaps Porzingis, the unicorn that is supposed to be the face of the franchise for at least the next decade. Apparently, other teams smell blood in the water as a “frenzy of interest is growing.” Apparently, Jackson even has his replacement if he were to deal him. Wojnarowski added that Jackson met with Arizona draft prospect Lauri Markkanen, who is a player Jackson would “consider” selecting with the No. 8 pick if the Knicks do the unthinkable and trade Porzingis. It’s common knowledge that the two have a strained relationship after Porzingis ditched his

Shockingly, the Knicks are not opposed to trading their franchise player, Kristaps Porzingis. GETTY IMAGES

end-of-season meetings with Jackson and other members of Knicks management. With not much headway made in resolving the issue after more than two months, the Knicks are on the brink of utter disaster.

There is no doubt that Porzingis would bring in a major haul if he were to be dealt and Markkanen has drawn comparisons to Porzingis given his range and athleticism within such a large frame. But there

is a reason why Porzingis is called a unicorn; they are not that common. For a snakebitten organization that really hasn’t done anything right over the past 16 years, Porzingis has be-

come the shining light of hope. Even when he was taken fourth overall in 2015, he was met with harsh criticism and disbelief by Knicks fans. Could you imagine New Yorkers having to go through that all over again with a player who probably won’t be as successful as Porzingis? I’m not saying Markkanen can’t be a star, but you just can’t put those kinds of expectations on a 20-year-old kid in one of the largest, most-starved basketball markets in the league. If Jackson really is this incompetent and decides to trade Porzingis, he should probably slip his running shoes on because I’m guessing a mob of irate Knicks fans will be headed his way.

Projecting the Vegas Golden Knights’ 2017 NHL expansion draft selections JOE PANTORNO @joepantorno

joseph.pantorno@metro.us

Wednesday will be a momentous day in the NHL as its newest franchise, the Vegas Golden Knights, will announce their selections in the 2017 expansion draft. For those who don’t know how expansion drafts work, the Golden Knights will be allowed to choose one player from each of the other 30 franchises. The preexisting clubs submitted a list of players — seven forwards, three defensemen, one goalie, or eight skaters and a goalie — they wish to protect from Vegas on Sunday. The rest, as long as they aren’t first- or second-year players and unsigned draft choices, can be snapped up. Vegas must pick at least 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goalies while keeping their salary under a combined $73 million. Here is how I think their roster could shape up come draft day.:

Centers Mikhail Grigorenko Colorado Avalanche $1 million Cody Eakin Dallas Stars $3.85 million Jonathan Marchessault Florida Panthers $750,000 Nic Dowd Los Angeles Kings $640,000 Jordan Weal Philadelphia Flyers $650,000
