COMMUNICATIONS CHIEF US TARGETS VENEZUELAN SCARAMUCCI IS OUT PRESIDENT FOR SANCTIONS

1

Donald Trump fired Anthony Scaramucci over an obscene tirade just over a week after naming him to the job, sources familiar with the decision said, in the latest staff upheaval to hit the Republican’s administration. Scaramucci’s departure follows one of the rockiest weeks of Trump’s presidency in which a major Republican effort to overhaul the U.S. healthcare system failed in Congress and both his spokesman

and previous chief of staff left their jobs as White House infighting burst into the open. Scaramucci was damaged by comments he made to The New Yorker last week in which he attacked then-White House chief of staff Reince Priebus and Trump’s chief strategist, Steve Bannon, in profanity-laden terms. For more, see page 4.

The U.S. government slapped sanctions on Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro on Monday, the Trump’s administration’s toughest move so far against his government in response to Sunday’s election of a legislative superbody Washington denounced as a “sham” vote. No oil-related measures were included in the announcement, but such measures remain under consideration, according

to congressional sources and a person familiar with the White House’s deliberations on the matter. Under the sanctions, all of Maduro’s assets subject to U.S. jurisdiction were frozen, and Americans are barred from doing business with him, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said.

Los Angeles was chosen to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in a deal that virtually assures that the 2024 Summer Games will be held in the rival candidate city of Paris, Olympic officials announced. Both cities were competing for the 2024 Games after several other candidates withdrew from contention, and the stage was set for Paris to win its bid when the International Olympic Committee

(IOC) confirmed that Los Angeles had agreed to the later date of 2028. “The IOC welcomes this decision of the Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Candidature Committee, and we are pleased to release the Host City contract 2028 in a transparent and timely manner,” said IOC President Thomas Bach in a statement.

LYFT APPOINTS FORMER OBAMA ADVISER TO BOARD

Ride-hailing company Lyft Inc. said on Monday it appointed Valerie Jarrett, an adviser to former President Barack Obama, to its board Jarrett, 60, served in several roles during Obama’s eight-year administration. Most recently she was senior adviser to Obama and an assistant to the former president for public engagement and intergovernmental affairs. Jarrett has also worked

as Chicago’s commissioner of planning and development and held the chair of the city’s transit board. The appointment comes at a time when Lyft, co-founded by Logan Green and John Zimmer, is vying for a bigger share of the U.S. ride-hailing market, which is dominated by Uber Technologies Inc.

Scaramucci leaves role as White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci is the third White House official to depart his post in recent weeks.

President Donald Trump reportedly decided to boot Anthony Scaramucci from his role as White

House communications director after just 11 days on the job. The news came days after the ex-Wall Street financier gave a cursefilled interview to the New Yorker in which he

railed against other senior White House officials. Three unnamed sources described as “close to the decision” confirmed Trump’s decision to remove Scaramucci from the job

Monday, The New York Times reported. Scaramucci is the third high-level staffer to resign or be removed from office — former Press Secretary Sean Spicer resigned July 21 and ex-Chief of Staff Reince Priebus resigned Friday. The latest White House shakeup ousting Scaramucci reportedly came at the request of Gen. John Kelly, the Trump administration’s former secretary of homeland security who was named the chief of staff following Priebus’ departure July 28. Kelly, who was sworn into his new chief of staff position on Monday, has been recognized for his organized and disciplined management style. It’s unclear whether Scaramucci will stay on with the administration in a different capacity, or if he will be dismissed entirely from

any White House role, but Scaramucci’s short tenure has been marred by sensational stories. The multimillionaire businessman’s wife of three years, Deidre Ball, filed for divorce three weeks ago as she was nine months pregnant with the couple’s second child. Scaramucci’s “naked political ambition” to work for Trump in the White House was reportedly a factor in Ball’s decision to file for divorce. In a profanity-laced interview published Thursday by The New Yorker, Scaramucci demanded a reporter reveal his White House sources and threatened to fire the entire White House communications department. He also called Priebus a “f—king paranoid schizophrenic,” as he embarked on a seemingly paranoid rant of his own that White House staffers were “plotting against him.”

New Men’s Sex Pill Makes Viagra Obsolete Scientific advance made just for older men. Works on both men’s physical ability and their desire in bed. By Harlan S. Waxman Health News Syndicate New York – If you’re like the rest of us guys over 50, you probably already know the truth… Prescription ED pills may work, but they don’t solve all the probems in the bedroom and they are very expensive. Dr. Bassam Damaj, chief scientific officer at the world famous Innovus Pharma Laboratories, explains, “As we get older, we need more help in bed. Not only does our desire fade; but erections can be soft or feeble, one of the main complaints with prescription pills. Besides, they’re expensive… costing as much as $50.00 each.” Plus, it does nothing to stimulate your brain to want sex. “I don’t care what you take; if you aren’t interested in sex, you can’t get or keep an erection. It’s physiologically impossible,” said Dr. Damaj.

MADE JUST FOR MEN OVER 50 But now, for the first time ever, there’s a pill made just for older men. It’s called Vesele®. A new pill that helps you in bed by stimulating your body and your brainwaves. So Vesele® can work even when nothing else worked before. The new men’s pill is not a drug. It’s something completely different. Because you don’t need a prescription for Vesele®, sales are exploding. The maker just can’t produce enough of it to keep up with demand. Even doctors are having a tough time getting their hands on it. So what’s all the fuss about?

The new formula takes on erectile problems with a whole new twist. It doesn’t just address the physical problems of getting older; it works on the mental part of sex too. Unlike the expensive prescriptions, the new pill stimulates your sexual brain chemistry as well, actually helping you regain the passion and burning desire you had for your partner again. So you will want sex with the hunger and stamina of a 25-year-old.

THE BRAIN CONNECTION Vesele® takes off where Viagra® only begins. Thanks to a discovery made by 3 Nobel-Prize winning scientists, Vesele® has become the first ever patented supplement to harden you and your libido. So you regain your desire as well as the ability to act on it. In a 16-week clinical study, scientists from the U.S.A. joined forces to prove Nitric Oxide’s effects on the cardio vascular system. They showed that Nitric Oxide could not only increase your ability to get an erection, it would also work on your brainwaves to stimulate your desire for sex. The results were remarkable and published in the world’s most respected medical journals.

THE SCIENCE The study asked men, 45 to 65 years old to take the main ingredient in Vesele® once a day. Then they were instructed not to change the way they eat or exercise but to take Vesele® twice a day. What happened next was remarkable. Virtually every man in the study who took Vesele® twice a day reported a huge difference in their desire for sex. In layman’s terms, they were horny again. They also experienced harder erections that lasted for almost 20 minutes. The placebo controlled group (who received sugar pills) mostly saw no difference. AN UNEXPECTED BONUS: The study results even showed an impressive increase in the energy, brainpower and memory of the participants.

“Once we saw the results we knew we had a game-changer said Dr. Damaj. We get hundreds of calls a day from people begging us for a bottle. It’s been crazy. We try to meet the crushing demand for Vesele®.”

VESELE® PASSED THE TEST “As an expert in the development of sexual dysfunction, I’ve studied the effectiveness of Nitric Oxide on the body and the brain. I’m impressed by the way it increases cerebral and penile blood flow. The result is evident in the creation of Vesele®.

New men’s pill overwhelms your senses with sexual desire as well as firmer, long-lasting erections. There’s never been anything like it before. It’s sure-fire proof that the mind/body connection is unbeatable when achieving and maintaining an erection and the results are remarkable” said Dr. Damaj.

HERE’S WHAT MEN ARE SAYING • I’m ready to go sexually and mentally. • More frequent erections at night and in the morning. • I have seen a change in sexual desire. • Typically take 1 each morning and 1 each night. Great Stamina, Great Results! • An increased intensity in orgasms. • My focus (mental) has really improved… Huge improvement. • Amazing orgasms! • I feel more confident in bed.

HOW TO GET VESELE® This is the first official public release of Vesele® since its news release. In order to get the word out about Vesele®, Innovus Pharma is offering special introductory discounts to all who call. On the day Browder was scheduled to testify, Trump tweeted, seemingly at random — with no advance notice to the Pentagon and military chiefs, leaving them stunned — that transgender people would not be allowed to serve “in any capacityâ€? in the military. Browder’s appearance before the committee was rescheduled for Thursday. That was the day that Scaramucci’s profane tirade to a New Yorker reporter dominated news coverage. Browder’s testimony

went ahead, however. He described how he made a fortune in Russia, and in the process discovered a “kleptocracy of wealthy middlemen that used corruption, blackmail, torture and murder to stay in power, led by Vladimir Putin. Browder said: “Effectively the moment that you enter into their world, you become theirs. When the financier, who now lives in London, discovered a corruption scheme benefiting Putin, he and his lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, reported it to Russian authorities. “And we waited for the good guys to get the bad guys, Browder told the Senate committee. “It turned out that in Putin’s Russia, there are no good guys. He was accused of tax evasion and banned from re-entering the country after a trip abroad. Magnitsky was beaten to death in prison.

HEALTHCARE Trump aims at insurers in battle over healthcare subsidies President Donald Trump on Monday took aim at the nation’s health insurers in an escalating threat to cut the healthcare subsidy payments that make Obamacare plans aordable, after repeatedly urging Republican senators to continue working to undo his Democratic predecessor’s healthcare law. “If ObamaCare is hurting people, & it is, why shouldn’t it hurt the insurance companies & why should Congress not be paying what public pays?â€? Trump, a Republican, wrote on Twitter.

Trump, frustrated that he and Republicans have not been able to keep campaign promises to repeal and replace Obamacare, has threatened to let it implode. So far, the administration has continued to make the monthly subsidy payments, but withholding them would be one way to make good on Trump’s threat. A bipartisan group of 43 House lawmakers on Monday called for Congress to quickly stabilize the individual insurance market by appropriating money for the payments and creating a stability fund for states. PHILLY’S NAVY YARD IS A FORCE OF INNOVATION ROB WONDERLING

In 1776, a war for independence was raging between Great Britain and the 13 colonies of what would one day become the United States of America. It was that same year the Continental Congress leased land in Philadelphia to support naval defense, and in 1868, what is known today as the Navy Yard became an official U.S. Navy site. Like many things in Philadelphia, it holds a “firsts title, being the first shipyard in the world to use dry docks in order to improve the ship’s operating times. And like those original 13 colonies, the Philadelphia Navy Yard has evolved into something much bigger and more dynamic than what it was all those years ago.  In many ways, the Navy Yard has followed the lineage of our great nation; it went from a major industrial yard to the flourishing urban development site that it is today. This transformation is due to the work and investment of PIDC, Philadelphia’s public-private economic development corporation, in partnership with the

yard’s private master developer Liberty Property Trust. In 2000, PIDC, on behalf of the city of Philadelphia, acquired what was then known as the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, making to date $150 million in public investments which has yielded $750 million in private investment. The U.S. Navy remains here, and today, the Navy Yard is home to many iconic tenants such as GSK, Urban Outfitters, Inc., and Tasty Baking Company. All in all, the Yard contains 150 companies and over 13,000 employees that occupy 7.5 million square feet, with a projected 17,000 jobs and 6 million square feet of construction expected to come within the next 12 years. There are also considerations to construct multifamily apartment units in the coming years. This burgeoning mixed-use development is seen as an apex of business parks nationwide; the Urban Land Institute profiled the Navy Yard in 2016, designating the old military base as one of the most successful redevelopment projects in U.S. history. The appeal of the Navy Yard will continue to flourish with its growth and transformation, serving as a larger representation of the mixed-use developments evolving across the 11-county region. It is both a home for new ideas and a symbol of the innovation and economic progress of Greater Philadelphia. Rob Wonderling is president and CEO the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia Navy Yard is already home to 150 companies. NAVYYARD.ORG

Controversial Blacks Guns Matter founder Maj Toure takes his gun education program to an urban high school. CASSIE HEPLER @MetroPhilly letters@metro.us

Guns were allowed in a Philadelphia school this week. Bright orange replicas used for making holsters were sprinkled throughout the classroom at YESPhilly Accelerated High School last week, with Black Guns Matter founder Maj Toure leading the way. Toure is a leader in the gun safety movement, and YESPhilly is a nonprofit educational program where youth who’ve dropped out of school can finish their ed-

ucation and discover their talents and dreams. “I think that they’re living in communities where there is a lot of gun access, without a lot of information, such as how to hold one,” said YESPhilly principal Taylor Frome. “A lot of students need to learn safety, and there would be less gun-related incidents.” Summer students at the North Philly school learned about conflict resolution, de-escalation, urban culture, firearm safety and the Second Amendment with a theme of restorative justice during Toure’s class, part of a week of workshops taught by Toure that included other activities focusing on justice-related issues. “The gun-safety one is getting the most attention because it is the most dramatic,” said Frome. Students were challenged with scenarios in the classroom, such as

what to do if you come across a gun. When the students were asked who can get access to a gun in 24 hours, three-quarters of the class raised their hands. “If you do come across a firearm, don’t stick it in your pocket, talk to an adult,” consultant Jeanine Cook told kids during the class. “You might think it’s cool, and you’re playing around and shoot somebody by accident. ... It does have life-damaging effects if you allow it to.” Even the principal learned a thing or two. “If you ever pick up a gun, keep your finger away from the trigger,” Frome said. The students seemed to identify and resonate with the workshops. Detwan Teller, 19, said the class taught him about “real-world, life things and real situations and discipline,” while Isaiah Nelson, 19, said Maj

The Justice Week gun workshop took place in between stops on a 13city, 50-state tour spreading his message.

“A lot of students need to learn safety, and there would be less gun-related incidents.”

His organization’s mission is to educate urban communities on their Second Amendment rights and responsibilities through firearm training and education. “I really feel like they were entertained and learned a huge amount,” Toure said of the school workshop. “Our future plan is to make sure that

we can get this in public schools across America. That’s our long-term goal. Our short-term goal is to just stay open to any opportunities that may fall our way and just make sure that people are learning, especially young people. If that has to be a school setting, that will be tremendously powerful.”

Remember the ’90s? Finn Wittrock sort of does. The actor is 32, meaning he was only an adolescent in 1995, which is when his new movie, “Landline, takes place. It’s a fun backdrop for a very funny, very honest movie about infidelity, in which two sisters (Jenny Slate and Abby Quinn) discover their father (John Turturro) is cheating on their mother (Edie Falco). But Slate’s character is cheating herself, sleeping with an old friend (played by Wittrock) behind her fiance’s back.

The women who made “Landline also made “Obvious Child. Both

You were just a kid in 1995, but you still got to experience the world before tech took over everything. Are there obsolete things from that era you miss? I kind of miss big old computers that took forever to do anything. [Laughs] And I remember my friend and I had portable CD players. There was a new one that came out that was anti-skip, because that was a big problem when you were walking — those things would always skip. Suddenly there were these new ones. You could shake the thing, jump up and down for five seconds, and it wouldn’t skip. We thought that was mind-blowing.

MAKE HEALTHY YOUR NEW HAPPY How to prevent plantar fasciitis and other common conditions. MEGAN JOHNSON @MetroPhilly letters@metro.us

Spending all day on her feet takes a toll on Rachele Pojednic. But the Flywheel instructor has a simple tool to combat foot pain: a small, dense, bouncy ball she bought for 25 cents from a grocery store vending machine. “I place the ball under the part of my foot where I feel the pain, applying a bit of my weight. Then I close my eyes, be still and breathe,” says Pojednic. “This is actually a great overall restorative tool because the release in your feet can lead to relaxation in other parts of your body as well.” But it’s not just athletes who run and bike hundreds of miles that develop chronic foot pain. “My feet hurt” is one of the most common complaints at the end of a long day, whether it’s from uncomfortable shoes or constant

pounding on your feet while working out. Dr. Susan Wexler says the most common issues patients come to her with are ingrown toenails, warts, foot infections and plantar fasciitis, better known as heel pain

caused by stress on the tissues that run from the heel to the base of the foot. “The best thing they can do is wear an arch support and good-quality sneakers,” says the podiatrist. Beyond daily

stretches and exercises you can implement to alleviate symptoms, “the best long-term treatment for plantar fasciitis — the gold standard — is custom-made arch-support orthotics.” With so many com-

plaints about foot pain these days, footwear companies are becoming even more savvy when it comes to keeping comfort in mind while designing their products. Sally Murphy, senior director of Women’s

Design at shoemaker Rockport, says that the summer is a particularly bad season for foot pain because people tend to wear flatter, less supportive footwear. “We suggest wearing a shoe or sandal that has an anatomic footbed with a molded-heel seat, which offers support,” says Murphy. “We also suggest a sole that is firm and offers significant stability and support.” The “recovery footwear” industry is taking foot health a step further. Shoes by Oofos use specialized foam to absorb and disperse impact 37 percent more than traditional footwear. By cradling the foot’s arch, its shoes and sandals relieve pressure on the ankles, knees, hips and lower back. “When you look at the main ankle-joint surface, the area is extremely small as well — roughly 1 inch — significantly smaller than your body size,” says Dan Dyrek, a spokesman for Oofos. “This sets up most people for the common risk of foot injuries due to overload.”

The Worst Sports Fan in America hears himself heckled in Milwaukee at a Cubs-Brewers game. He stomps through the stands — cradling his cheese nacho tray — until he spots his critic, shoves a finger under the guy’s nose and berates him for trying to “be a big shot.” The Worst Sports Fan in America comes from Newark, 8 miles from the Meadowlands Sports Complex. Despite that, he swears lifetime fealty to the Dallas Cowboys’ blue pentagram. As a child, that likely made him a neighborhood outcast. As an adult, he parlayed his position and power to nudge into Jerry Jones’ luxury box, slurping at the owner’s elbow. Who can forget the image of him awkwardly seeking a manbrace after

about Phillies supporters. Over the years, he has been spotted frequently at Citizens Bank Park. There has never been an incident requiring him to lumber around, nachos in tow, seeking an offend-

er to confront. Largely, he’s been ignored. But that didn’t stop him from saying this: “The Phillies suck. Let’s just start with that. They’re from Philadelphia. They’re an awful team. They’re an angry, bitter fan base and it’s not safe for civilized people to go to Citizens Bank Park if you want to root for the other team.” “Suck” is a big word in his vocabulary. Such discourse seems beneath the dignity of a sports-talk host (well, most of us), and certainly beneath the governor of the nation’s 11th-most-populous state. But, oh, the Worst Sports Fan in America dreams of a radio gig. That delusion ended quickly when he punctuated a one-day tryout on WFAN in New York by calling a detractor a “communist from Montclair.” Such slander seems normal now in presidential debates. But we hold ourselves to a higher standard when dressing down call-in critics.

I will make no jokes about the Worst Fan in America’s weight. Suffice it to say, food is a big issue here. Over just two years, according to state reports, he spent $82,594 on concessions at MetLife Stadium, plunging his taxpayerfunded debit card into the scanner 58 times. That’s a lot of Johnny Walker Blues for his pal, Jerry Jones. There have been other disputes involving taxpayer money. He once stalled his son’s high school baseball game by buzzing a 55-foot state helicopter over left field, landing nearby and getting into a black limo to drive the final 100 yards to the stands. He balked, but later reimbursed the state for that $2,500-anhour flight. The Worst Sports Fan in America leaves elected office on Jan. 16, 2018. Here’s hoping he uses his increased idle time to find another hobby — one that keeps him out of our lives.

Sixers’ top pick Fultz doubles down on playoff prediction Markelle Fultz was greeted with “Trust the Process” chants at Citizens Bank Park. EVAN MACY @evan_macy

evan.macy@metro.us

Markelle Fultz is not wavering on his old playoff prediction for the 2017-18 Sixers.

GETTY IMAGES

The Sixers have given a lot of fuel to haters of The Process. A sense of confidence — perhaps overconfidence is beaming from the team’s practice facility in Camden, and it seems as though everyone is buying in. Everyone who believes in the promise of Philly’s young core staying healthy and playing well in 2017-18. Not long after telling fans and media members that he expects the Sixers to make the playoffs next season, the soon-to-be rookie point guard repeated the same sentiment after tossing the first pitch before the Phillies-Braves game Monday afternoon.

“My confidence is high,” Fultz said. “It’s nowhere near cockiness, it’s just me having confidence. I believe in the team. I believe in what I can do, what the coaching staff can do. Everybody on the team’s goal is to make it to the playoffs and everybody believes we can make it.” The same has been echoed by teammate Joel Embiid, who was sidelined after knee surgery ended his season last year — his first on the floor following two entire campaigns missed due to a foot injury. The same kind of injury that befell Ben Simmons, who will make his NBA debut alongside Fultz next year after missing 2016-17. The positivity is contagious, and lured J.J. Redick to Philadelphia despite the veteran having longterm opportunities with teams much more established. And Fultz’s optimism is exactly what Philadelphia needs right now.

“The talent level that was here before I even got here and just being around the coaching staff,” Fultz said, telling reporters why he was so confident in his playoffor-bust prediction. “Seeing their visions and what they can see and what they can draw up and what they see in the new players that just came in. We’re all on the same page and we’re going to work hard to get there.” “Trust the Process” chants filled Citizens Bank Park, something that — if the Sixers achieve what Fultz says they will — won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. “Anywhere you go in Philly, you’re going to hear that,” Fultz said. “Embiid started that and you have to trust the process. It’s something I say, too. You won’t be surprised. You can go anywhere. You can be in McDonald’s. You can be walking down the street and you’re going to hear that.”

Over the past week, the Phillies have traded away Howie Kendrick, Jeremy Hellickson, Pat Neshek and Joaquin Benoit. It’s a fittingly busy week — one that saw several blockbluster trades that moved stars like Sonny Gray and Yu Darvish to playoff contenders. While the Phillies are far from contending, as signified by their willingness to sell, sell, sell they did come away with a sweep of the Braves at Citizens Bank Park this past weekend, always an encouraging sign. As is the fact that they now have one of the youngest 25-man rosters in baseball after parting ways with nearly all of their veteran players. Did the Phils get any kind of quality return for their four tradees? Here’s a brief look at the newest prospects down on the farm: Jose Gomez, SS (from

metro.us/horoscopes Aries Follow through with your ideas. Invest time or money in something that will help you. Pursuing educational pursuits or networking will lead to greater opportunities.

Libra Get involved in your community or in family affairs that can help improve your life. Don’t get bullied into doing things you don’t want to do.

Taurus You may not agree with everyone you encounter today, but withholding your opinion will help you avoid an argument with someone you need to get along with.

Scorpio If you watch what others do and how they react to challenges, you’ll gain the knowledge to do things right the first time. A unique idea will lead to advancement.

Gemini You should engage in projects and activities that you find energizing. Be proactive and follow through with the promises you make.

Sagittarius Let your emotions and desire to bring about positive change be your driving force. If you can visualize your goal, you can make it happen. Don’t be discouraged.

Cancer Creativity will engage your mind and promote new opportunities. Networking functions will bring you in touch with someone you find inspirational.

Capricorn If you want to feel better, don’t get into predicaments that allow others to take advantage of you. Your intuition won’t mislead you, but your ego will.

Leo Look for a bargain. Make a point to exercise or get involved in a project that requires physical strength or endurance. Hard work will lead to personal satisfaction.

Aquarius Let your reputation speak for you. Partnerships can be established, but rules should be set and individual responsibilities clearly outlined. Equality is key.

Virgo Attend to your responsibilities before someone complains. If you work alone, it will help you avoid interference and setbacks. Attend a function that interests you.

Pisces Your trusting nature will be taken advantage of if you aren’t careful. Inner growth is the answer to personal happiness. EUGENIA LAST
