Message from the President of Metrobank Foundation as Convenor of the Metrobank Group CSR Coordinating Officers In 2019, the Philippines was buoyed by a positive growth outlook as it continued to push for greater inclusion and development opportunities for the broader public. This is the landscape that influenced us in the Metrobank Group in our mission to achieve long-term value and holistic progress for our stakeholders—all in the name of nation-building. The longevity of the Group, comprised of its subsidiaries and affiliates, goes hand in hand with its sustained commitment to create a lasting positive impact on society. The overarching mechanism that continues to steer the companies can be traced back to the vision set by the late Group Chairman and Founder Dr. George Ty Siao Kian. He deemed the work of the Group to be an instrument for social good. This is what we seek to uphold year on year. For 2019, we strived to demonstrate our dedication through the breadth and quantity of our initiatives across all companies. Metrobank Foundation, the Group’s corporate social responsibility arm, celebrated its 40th anniversary of propagating a culture of excellence, engaging stakeholders, and empowering communities. Enduring partnerships enabled the Foundation to implement programs on priority areas of public service excellence, education, healthcare, arts and culture, and good governance. This year saw a rise of volunteerism opportunities and collaborative efforts among the employees of subsidiaries and affiliates. GT Foundation, the Ty family foundation, sustained its interventions that promote better access to health and education, as well as scale up efforts focused on the environment, and technology and innovation.

“We aim to continue growing alongside the nation by reaching out to our neighbors far and wide. This is our commitment to the people and the future.”

Meanwhile, Philippine Savings Bank rallied volunteers to pay it forward and make meaningful contributions to society by reaching out to remote indigent communities and supporting various advocacies. AXA Philippines also tapped its nationwide network of employees to aid underserved populations, especially indigenous people, social entrepreneurs, and persons with disability. You will read more stories of the Group’s social development efforts in the proceeding pages of this report. Another year has passed, and we derive inspiration from partners and stakeholders who share our purpose of serving Filipinos. This serves as our solid foundation as we navigate through a series of changes and manifold challenges. We aim to continue growing alongside the nation by reaching out to our neighbors far and wide. This is our commitment to the people and the future.

First Metro empowers citizens to invest in their future Behind every thriving economy are empowered citizens who actively pursue growth opportunities. The strength of a nation therefore lies on every individual. Each person’s positive action creates a ripple effect and taken collectively, poises the nation for further development. This is the big picture that First Metro derives inspiration from. Amidst economic uncertainties and changes, First Metro does not waver from fulfilling its commitment to the people. Its pursuit towards inclusive growth are foremost marked by the efforts to help Filipinos begin their journey to financial literacy and secure a bright future for their families. Sound Decisions for a Secure Future First Metro is keen on helping Filipinos take control of their finances and, in the process, take better charge of their lives. In 2019, it implemented a series of seminars and trainings to promote financial awareness, along with its subsidiaries First Metro Asset Management, Inc. (FAMI) and First Metro Securities Brokerage Corporation (FirstMetroSec). With the theme “Back to the Future,” First Metro held seven (7) economic and capital markets briefings across Manila, Cebu, and Davao in 2019, convening a total of 1,356 participants. Keynote speakers imparted high-level analyses and outlook on the Philippine and global economies. They also shared insights into best practices, markets, and emerging growth industries. FAMI conducted a total of 51 financial literacy and financial wellness seminars

2

nationwide which benefitted over 3,000 individuals of varied backgrounds. These aimed to educate the participants on how to make sound financial and investment decisions.

Gift of Vision, Wisdom and Practicality

Further, FAMI inked a financial literacy partnership with service provider Grab Philippines to develop and improve the financial literacy of the latter’s partnerdrivers. This seeks to help the partnerdrivers in managing their finances to reach their financial and wealth goals through a combination of tools and avenues that enable consultations on financial planning, goal setting, and budgeting, among others.

Through the Bigay Liwanag program, the company was able to reach out to 300 elementary students with vision impairment. Dr. Ederlinda Marquez of Marquez Optical conducted eye examinations which benefitted students from three (3) public elementary schools in Manila namely Dr. Benigno Aldana Elementary School, Legarda Elementary School, and Eriberto A. Remigio Elementary School.

“It’s being able to push forward with the advocacy of having to help our Filipino countrymen learn how to invest, how to save, and Grab is a symbol of the many hardworking Filipinos. At First Metro Asset, we are here to help them along, educate them so that their dreams of being able to provide for their family become a reality,” said FAMI President Karen Liza Roa. Meanwhile, FirstMetroSec hosted 139 seminars that tackled topics ranging from stock trading, stock market basics, and investment options. These crash courses in financial and investment education attracted over 14,000 participants across the country, overseas, and online via a web series, most of them students, young professionals, government agencies, and private and non-profit firms. These seminars instilled vigilance in investment through legitimate channels, and offered a glimpse of the stock market—from account opening to actual trading.

First Metro sustained its commitment to academic institutions in responding to the needs of underprivileged children.

Since 2008, Bigay Liwanag has served 27 schools and over 3,000 beneficiaries. First Metro also donated copies of the book, Ang Maliit na Palda ni Isay, a story about wisdom and practicality, to the said schools. Further, the company joined the National Teachers’ Month celebrations by hosting an appreciation event for the teachers of Eriberto A. Remigio Elementary School in Santa Cruz, Manila. Some of the event highlights included a fundraising activity to buy tokens and care packages for the educators, and a financial literacy seminar to help them become money smart. In November, company employees took part in the ANCOP (Answering the Cry of the Poor) Global Walk at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila. This annual activity, organized by the Couples for Christ Global Mission Foundation, is intended to create opportunities for indigent members of society through scholarships from elementary to college.

First Metro’s education outreach for the year culminated with Tamang Paghahanda Para sa Laro ng Buhay: Financial Literacy with a Twist held at the Don Bosco Technical Institute in Tarlac. The fun-filled day involved a recognition activity for high school scholars and their families, financial literacy activities, a curated talk, and a film showing. FirstMetroSec handed out Ipon Cans to the student participants and their families to aid them in their financial journeys. Bringing Cheers to Communities The Christmas celebration came early for 400 Aeta families in October with Kapit Bisig Para sa Mga Kapatid held in Floridablanca, Pampanga. First Metro organized the outreach program filled with games, grocery items distribution, and hearty meals shared with the community. Further, FirstMetroSec kicked off its 25th anniversary celebration by bringing cheers to the elderly through the “2019 Reach First” program held at the Haven for the Elderly in Tanay, Rizal in October 2019. The Haven for the Elderly is a center managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and home to over 200 seniors. FirstMetroSec employees spent a day with the seniors at the shelter and contributed to their daily essentials as well as those of the social workers looking after them. First Metro believes that being part of a bigger community, there are plenty of opportunities to make a difference and sustain their efforts in promoting financial well-being, quality education, and poverty alleviation.

GT Foundation sustains mission to uplift Filipinos’ quality of life Giving back forms a big part of the philosophy of GT Foundation, Inc. (GTFI), the Ty family foundation. This is the compass that has guided the organization since it was established in 2009. Now more than a decade into its mission, GTFI continues to sustain the vision of the late Metrobank Group chairman and founder Dr. George Ty Siao Kian through programs and interventions that aid communities primarily in the areas of health, education, environment, and technology and innovation. Gestures of Generosity Bags of Blessing aims to be the outward expression of the Metrobank Group’s generosity towards its neighbors, and its unique celebration of Chinese New Year. This annual gift-giving tradition started in 2011 and every year since, GTFI and Metrobank Foundation distribute food packages in red bags to thousands of Filipino families across the country. This activity takes inspiration from the Chinese traditional ang-pao or red envelopes containing cash which families and relatives often exchange for good luck during Chinese New Year celebrations. In 2019, GTFI and Metrobank Foundation welcomed the Year of the Earth Pig through a weeklong distribution of PhP 10 million worth of food packages to 10,000 families in 24 sites nationwide. The distribution activities were kicked off on February 5 at San Agustin Church in Intramuros, City of Manila. The simultaneous distribution activities were made possible through the collaborative efforts by employees from Metrobank’s network of branches as well as institutional partners Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP).

science and technology education. The four-storey facility houses the University’s research laboratories in different areas of science, engineering, and technology.

GTFI carried out a series of 14 distribution activities which benefitted a total of 5,449 individuals. This was implemented in partnership with Purple Hearts Club, Metrobank’s employee volunteerism arm, who spearheaded the distribution in identified areas.

The building is also home to a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectrometer that thoroughly analyzes and interprets molecular and compound structures. This NMR Spectrometer is the most sophisticated of its kind in the country.

A distribution of reading glasses to 300 beneficiaries was held in Barangay Cauayan, Pototan, Iloilo on January 2 through GTFI’s partnership with AFP. On January 16, distribution also took place in Eastside in Isabela City, Basilan which benefitted 500 individuals. The Foundation completed its series of distribution activities towards the end of the year in the areas of Cavite, La Union, and Negros Oriental. Building Spaces for Science and Technology

Improved Vision for Children and Elderlies

GTFI’s legacy projects are mainly largescale infrastructure projects for the advancement of education and health. On April 11, 2019, GTFI and De La Salle University (DLSU) inaugurated the Dr. George S.K. Ty Advanced Instrumentation Building through a marker-unveiling ceremony at the University’s Science & Technology Complex in Biñan, Laguna.

“The Lasallian identity of a spirit of faith, zeal for service and communion in mission, and its motto, Religio, Mores, Cultura, resonates the vision and mission of GTFI of addressing the needs of the less privileged to improve the quality of their lives,” said GTFI president Alfred Ty during the ceremony. Opening Doors for the Youth GTFI aspires to help keep the nation’s disadvantaged youth out of the streets and actively nurture their potential in schools. It thus continues to offer scholarship grants to support promising students with lesser means. The Scholarships for Technical-Vocational Education Program (STEP) is the Foundation’s initiative that provides opportunities for scholars to pursue their studies and acquire employable skills in top technical-vocational training institutions in the country with industry tie-ups for guaranteed employment.

TMP School of Technology. In 2014, this track paved the way for a PhP 10 million scholarship grant for Toyota Motor Philippines School of Technology (TMP Tech), extending assistance to 33 scholars. In 2017, GTFI prioritized Technical Vocation Education and Training (TVET) under its education thrust, bringing about an additional PhP 5 million tranche which granted support to 20 scholars spread across four (4) TMP Tech batches. Nine (9) scholars received their certificates during the 8th Commencement Exercises held on May 30 at the TMP Tech campus in Santa Rosa, Laguna. Punlaan School. GTFI also supports Punlaan School in empowering young women and developing their potential through holistic education and training. The Foundation contributes to the latter’s Dual Training System which equips students with practical knowledge and skills to gain employment in tourism-related industries. During Punlaan School’s 26th Commencement Exercises, 16 scholars of Batch II GTFI-Punlaan STEP obtained their certificates for completing their dual training program in Hospitality and Culinary Arts in the Hotel and Restaurant Industry. To date, a total of 32 GTFI-Punlaan scholars have graduated from the program.

On October, GTFI, through Plan International Philippines, turned over three (3) disaster-resilient barangay health stations in Tarangnan, Samar; Kinitaan, North Upi, Maguindanao; and Bungued, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao. These facilities provide access to primary healthcare as well as maternal services ranging from pregnancy to post-natal and childcare. Each facility houses several rooms for consultation, sterilization, labor and delivery, and recovery. GTFI also sponsored the barangay health stations’ equipment and purchase of motorcycle ambulance for the transportation of patients, especially of pregnant women. These facilities will benefit an estimated 15,000 residents from the host barangay and its neighboring areas.

Tebow Cure Philippines is a nonprofit organization that caters to children with correctable physical disabilities and deformities such as clubfoot, bowed legs, curved spines, cleft lip palate and other conditions through subsidized surgeries. As of 2019, GTFI has subsidized the surgical operations of 30 children with special needs. Altogether, the scope and impact of these initiatives continue to define the brand of care that GTFI extends to its stakeholders. It continues to propel the organization as it moves towards more decades of helping uplift the quality of life of Filipinos.

Meanwhile, GTFI inked a partnership with Tebow Cure Philippines, covering 2018 until 2021, to sponsor the surgical operations of

Don Bosco Educational Centers. GTFI likewise partnered with Don Bosco Educational Centers, granting a total of 70 scholarship slots across their four (4) schools or training centers. Don Bosco Naga, Don Bosco Mandaluyong, and Don Bosco San Jose each received 20 slots while Don Bosco Canlubang was granted 10 slots. All 70 GTFI-DBEC STEP scholars graduated in 2019. Ally for Quality Healthcare GTFI envisions to be an ally of the people in advancing healthcare delivery in the country, especially in marginalized communities. As a grant-making institution, GTFI provides support to various organizations whose advocacies align with the Foundation’s priority areas, including healthcare, in order to help them implement projects that address existing gaps for maximum impact. In 2019, among the organizations supported were Plan International Philippines and Tebow Cure Philippines.

Manila Doctors Hospital deepens presence through holistic CSR interventions Access to quality healthcare is an aspiration that many Filipinos share across every region. Present realities show that this remain to be an elusive privilege for many. As a health institution that is committed to a social vision, Manila Doctors Hospital (MDH) seeks to bridge this gap.

The support of GT Foundation, Inc. enabled MDH to implement social development programs which included provision of medical services for indigent neighbors as well as promotion of a healthy and clean environment through waste management.

MDH consistently strives to offer quality and accessible healthcare to patients, and respond to the needs of communities. Thus, its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs operate under the main premise of providing holistic intervention for the marginalized and underserved.

Moreover, MDH reinforced the importance of volunteer involvement in the work that the institution pursues. It hosted its annual SHINE (Service, Harmony, Integrity, Nurture, and Excellence) Awards to recognize the contributions of employees whose dedication to volunteer and extend a helping hand is instrumental to the success of MDH’s CSR interventions.

MDH also won its 5th award from the International Hospital Federation by bagging a ‘Silver Award for CSR Excellence’ for the #SaveAChildSaveTheNation project. This winning initiative centers on providing free psychosocial intervention for children who have experienced trauma. Lastly, it received the ‘2019 Outstanding Hospital Award (Level 3-Private)’ from the Philippine Hospital Association.

It was a remarkable year for MDH as it garnered several accolades from prestigious award-giving bodies. It became the first recipient of the Philippine

These citations serve as an affirmation of the institution’s excellence in providing quality healthcare and promoting wellness in the country.

In 2019, it continued to engage its network of partners and offer a wide array of social services such as subsidies for in-house patients, outreach programs, medical missions, and other health-related social involvements for adopted communities.

Titans extend care beyond the classroom Manila Tytana Colleges (MTC) consistently strives to embody the roles of a nurturing educational institution. It is a home of knowledge that intends to provide a space to cultivate holistic learning among its student body. Part of its thrust is inspiring teachers and learners alike to contribute to social good and be active in community outreach programs. Green Warriors Reporting for Duty Through the years, Titans have joined hands to forward environmental causes. On November 16, volunteers from the College Student Council participated in a cleanup drive focused on the Freedom Island, which is one of the two primary islands forming the 175-hectare area Las PiñasParañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA). The LPPCHEA is a priority conservation area teeming with flora and fauna. Further, the Senior High School’s Green Warriors Environmental Society officers and members took part in the tree planting activity held at Taguig City which was organized by the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary. A Responsive Neighbor’s Mission MTC also aims to proactively engage with external stakeholders in championing causes and responding to the needs of communities.

Pasay City West High School and Maricaban Elementary School on May 21, and Pasay City SPED Center on May 22. Further, complimentary seminars focused on Breastfeeding Awareness, Family Planning, and Psychological First Aid were also conducted for Ligas I Elementary School, Bacoor, Cavite and Paliparan National High School, Dasmariñas, Cavite on May 23-24. These were done in collaboration with the Manila Doctors College of Nursing and Guidance and Testing Department. On December 21, 2019, the College of Arts and Sciences, together with the Tytana Alumni Group, celebrated the yuletide season by spreading the cheers at Silungan ng Pag-asa (Shelter of Hope) in Paco, Manila. Silungan ng Pag-asa provides temporary shelter for cancerafflicted children from far-flung provinces while they are undergoing their treatments at Philippine General Hospital in Manila. The group prepared various activities and spent time with the children. One of the volunteers led a storytelling activity while the children from the shelter performed a mime number. Towards the end of the program, gifts comprised of food, books, and other basic necessities were presented to the children.

Immersion for the Youth MTC also integrates the promotion of social responsibility in its curriculum and puts a premium on its students’ immersion experience. This 2019, a total of 18 students assigned in the Community Extension Office underwent supervised training and immersion. Out of the 18, three (3) were from the General Academic Strand, six (6) were from the Humanities and Social Sciences Strand, and nine (9) were from the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Strand. During this period, the students were able to gain a deeper understanding of social responsibility and translate theory into practice by implementing their proposed projects. Meanwhile, for Community Engagement, Solidarity and Citizenship (CESC), where the spirit of service is emphasized in the academic program, Senior High School students conducted seminars for their selected communities.

The Young Titan Entrepreneurs (YTE), together with the Junior Marketing Associates (JMA) of MTC’s College of Accountancy and Management, initiated a livelihood program for the residents of Isla Verde, Imus Cavite on September 12, 2019. This program focused on kick-starting the journey of mothers towards starting their own, albeit small, business and helping provide for the needs of their family. Banner of Hope and Camaraderie Caring is at the heart of MTC’s outreach activities. It encourages its network to look for opportunities to extend this culture of care to groups outside the institution, especially the marginalized and underserved. The Tytana community supported the annual nationwide Brigada Eskwela project of the Department of Education, with this year carrying the theme “Matatag na Bayan para sa Maunlad na Bayan.” Several Titan employees and students took time off their usual schedule to help refurbish the facilities and equipment of partner schools. The volunteers aided in the preparations of Manila Tytana Colleges, the educational arm of the Metrobank Group, is a privately-owned educational institution that offers academic degrees and certificate courses related to health services, liberal arts and sciences, business management, and hospitality management. Over the years, Tytana has been branded for excellence in nursing education and other fields like psychology, nutrition with culinary arts, tourism and hospitality management, information technology, accountancy, entrepreneurship, business administration, and communication.

Collective Passion to Help MCC’s continued commitment to this cause has not only supported MAW’s advocacy to spread joy among the children but also created memories for both the kids and MCC employee volunteers. MCC employees continuously display their passion to give back to communities. Several departments organized their respective community development and outreach activities where they devoted their time and energy to reach out to various groups. These included a house-building initiative in partnership with Gawad Kalinga; a clean-up drive for a public elementary school; repacking of goods as part of the relief operations for

Puso at Sigasig: Metrobank Foundation’s 40-year philantrophic legacy In 1979, the late Metrobank Group Founder and Chairman Dr. George Ty Siao Kian envisioned the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. to be a force for social good that is guided by a philosophy of genuine service for the people. Forty years after, this purpose remains the guidepost of the organization in carrying out social development initiatives as the corporate social responsibility arm of Metropolitan Bank & Trust Company (Metrobank). Metrobank Foundation celebrated its 40-year milestone with the theme ‘Puso at Sigasig’ (Heart and Zeal), reflecting its sustained commitment to nation-building. Throughout the four decades, its programs were anchored on the priority areas of public service excellence, education, healthcare, visual arts and heritage, and good governance. In 2019, the Metrobank Art & Design Excellence (MADE) celebrated 35 years of engaging the public in the country’s creative journey and shining a spotlight on home-grown talents and emerging creative visionaries.

Empowerment at the Core The Foundation sustained its three (3) core programs focused on education: the Metrobank Scholarship Program, Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge, and National Teachers’ Month. The Metrobank Scholarship Program offers financial support to disadvantaged but academically deserving students. Metrobank Foundation and GT Foundation, in partnership with Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines, recognized the latest batch of scholar-graduates during the 21st Graduates’ Forum held. A total of 38 scholars obtained their undergraduate degrees from four (4) universities and colleges across the country, 17 of whom finished with Latin honors: six (6) magna cum laude and 11 cum laude. Meanwhile, the Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge (MMC), the Foundation’s annual mathematics competition, once again sought to raise the competitiveness and proficiency of elementary and high school students. Out of 403,707 students who participated in the nationwide elimination rounds, 22 students from 10 regions advanced to MMC’s final leg. Lastly, the National Teacher’s Month marked its 11-year crusade to inspire the public in honoring the country’s educators and their role in an ever-evolving society. This is in line with Presidential Proclamation No. 242 declaring September 5 to October 5 of every year as National Teachers’ Month. Reaching the Margins through Grants Metrobank Foundation also sustained its

campaign to support organizations driven by the same goal to elevate the quality of life of Filipinos in the margins. Through its Grants Program, assistance are extended to socio-civic and non-government organizations, as well as local and national government agencies.

PSBank reaches out to remote indigent communities Philippine Savings Bank (PSBank) believes that achieving progress is about taking action, no matter how big or small. The thrift bank therefore consistently leaves no stone unturned in looking for opportunities to fulfill its corporate social responsibility.

PSBank was conferred a Gawad Dekada by the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) during their 20th Pagkilala at Pasasalamat ceremony, recognizing PSBank as their decadelong blood drive partner. PSBank supports the quarterly bloodletting drive of PCMC.

Its diverse initiatives sought to engage internal and external stakeholders to contribute to nation-building, primarily in the areas of community development, education, environment, and volunteerism.

The Green Movement In July, PSBank’s Eco-Warriors Club was formed with the mission to inspire environmental action and larger participation among employees. Its members have since joined projects and activities geared towards environmental awareness and conservation.

Igniting Sparks of Hope for Underserved Neighbors

These included lending a hand for a massive cleanup of the Bank’s adopted zone in the Arroceros Forest Park, dubbed as Manila’s last lung; celebrating Earth Day along with other advocates at the Arroceros Forest Park; and participating in the Manila Bay cleanup drive organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

PSBank once again partnered with the Light of Hope Project-Cebu to provide renewable energy to the off-grid community of Pangan-an in the island province Cebu, whose residents have limited access to electricity and clean water. Cebu-based PSBankers joined the community outreach and taught the residents how to make their own solder-less solar lamps. These lamps were made from recycled plastic soda bottles and powered by solar energy cells. A total of 100 lamps were turned over to the community. Aside from the lamps, the volunteers also donated school supplies and slippers for the students, and shared meals with the residents. Further, PSBank continued its partnership with Trails to Empower Kids (TREK) which enabled employees to join other volunteer trekkers in outreach programs intended to reach remote mountain areas, and bring school supplies and materials to indigenous communities. Together, they were able to help 550 students across five (5) minority schools and coastal communities in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro, as well as 250 students at Malacbalac Elementary School in San Vicente, Masbate.

Supporting the Young and Ailing PSBank sustained its support for visually impaired and special children with indigent background. In December, the company turned over its annual donation to the Resources for the Blind, Inc. and Chosen Children Village Foundation amounting to PhP 100,000 to support the youth under their care. Officers from the bank visited both institutions and had meaningful engagements with the beneficiaries. Moreover, PSBank employees joined hands with Manila Doctors Hospital in the yearly Brigada Eskwela of public elementary schools within Metro Manila. A total of 47 volunteers teamed up to assist Amadeo V. Hernandez Elementary and San Rafael Elementary in preparing their campuses for the official resumption of classes.

It was indeed an eventful year for PSBank as it demonstrated its commitment to stakeholders through a wide range of interventions, made possible by the full support of its employees.

Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation, TMP’s social and humanitarian arm, carries out interventions focused on priority areas. TMP has always been mindful of its role in environmental stewardship. As new environmental issues arise and the call for action from stakeholders becomes more pressing, TMP steps up to take on the challenges. After the launch of the Toyota Environmental Challenge (TEC) 2050 in 2015, TMP continues to embark on more initiatives to help conserve and care for Mother Nature. The six (6) challenges set under the TEC 2050 focus on achieving zero carbon footprint or environmental impact across all aspects of TMP’s operations, as well as working towards a positive, holistic impact on society. As part of its commitment to ‘Create a Future Society in Harmony with Nature,’ under the TEC Challenge 6, TMP rallied volunteers to act for the environment. This year, TMP gathered 1,900 volunteers from 57 Toyota dealerships to join hands in planting 40,000 mangroves in 35 locations across the

country. These mangroves will not only help protect shorelines from storms, waves, and floods but will likewise maintain water quality and clarity by filtering pollutants and trapping sediments coming from land. Aside from planting mangroves, TMP volunteers also conducted a coastal cleanup which enabled them to collect a total of 1,200 sacks or 10 tons of waste items. The activity was held simultaneously along the coastal areas of Metro Manila and the following provinces: Batangas, Bulacan, Rizal, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Ilocos Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Mindoro, Negros Oriental, Samar, Bohol, Cebu, Bukidnon, Davao, Agusan del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Misamis Oriental, Lanao Del Norte, and South Cotabato. Further, TMP’s Adopt-a-River project encouraged volunteers to participate in regular cleanup activities along the SilangSanta Rosa River near the company’s vicinity to improve the waterways and prevent further pollution. The Silang-Santa Rosa River is connected to Laguna Lake which is one of the primary water sources for livelihood of nearby communities. Taken together, these efforts by TMP have translated to concrete impact on partner communities, and raised environmental consciousness among its employees as they strive to take on the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050.

For the Bags of Blessing, Orix Metro president Constancio Tan led the group of volunteers in packing and distributing sacks of rice and food packs to underprivileged families residing in the City of Manila, Quezon City, and Marikina City. The mangrove forest protects shorelines from soil erosions, and acts as a buffer from heavy downpours and floods. In addition, the project offers an alternative source of income for the residents of Brgy. Cagsao as the site serves as a nursery area for fish and crablets. This has not only helped augment the community’s income generating opportunities but further strengthened their selfsufficiency. To date, ORIX METRO has planted a total of 325,000 mangrove seedlings which have grown into thriving mangrove plants along the San Miguel Bay. Volunteers for a Cause ORIX Metro believes in promoting the value of collective effort among its workforce. It thus pooled volunteers to support the initiatives of partner organizations.
