MEETING- OF JANUARY 4, 1937 THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE CITY OF OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLAHOMA, MET IN

REGULAR MONTHLY SESSION IN THE BOARD ROOM, ADMINISTRATION BUILDING,

The minutes of the meetings of December 7, 10, 14 and 28, were read and upon motion of Mrs. Poole, seconded by Mr. Johnson, were approved as read.

! Minutes Approved

The Clerk called the attention of the Board to the fact that the minutes of the meetings of June, July, September and November, 1936, had not been read and approved. It was moved by Mrs. Poole and seconded by Mr. Johnson that the minutes of these meetings be read at future meetings, one month’s minutes at a meeting, until all had been read and approved. Motion carried.'

Minutes of Past Meeting to be Read

The Clerk read a notice from the Oklahoma City Board of Adjustment that the application of L. J. Waner for a permit to erect a building to be used for retail business purposes at the S E Corner of 23.rd Street and May Avenue, N. W., would be heard on January 11, 1937, at 4:00 o’clock P. M. There being no objection,the Attorney was informed that it would not be necessary for him to appear at the hearing.

Notice of Hearing

Upon motion of Mr. Dorsey, seconded by Mr. Spivey, the Health Education of the Y. W. C. A. was granted permission to use Central High School Auditorium for a demonstration of its activities on the night of January 27, at the actual cost of opening the building.

It was moved by Mr. Price and seconded by Mr. Dorsey that the use of Classen Gymnasium be granted the A. 0. U. W. Basket Ball team for a game on the night of January 7, at a change of $25.00. Motion carried.

The Clerk read a letter from the Sports Editor of the Oklahoman and Times, expression appreciation of the Board’s cooperation in permitting them to use the Classen Gymnasium for a basket ball tournament sponsored by these newspapers. This communication was received and placed on file.

Letter of Thanks from Oklahoman and Times

The Clerk-Business Manager reported that he had been notified of an increase in the union wage scale of iron workers, bricklayers, stone masons, tile layers, marble masons, terrazzo workers, and foremen and apprentices for these crafts. These notices were received and placed on file.

Increase in Wages of Skilled Labor I

With reference to the request made by Mr. A. H. Amelung at the meeting of December 7, for assistance in paying for medical services for his daughter who was injured in a gas explosion at Classen High School, the Attorney stated that there was no legal way in which the Board of Education could comply with this request. The following report was read:
