MET IN SPECIAL SESSION IN THE BOARD ROOM, IRVING SCHOOL BUILDING, MONDAY, MAY. 26TH, 1919, AT THREE 0 1 CLOCK P. M. PRESENT:

The meeting was called at the request of the Superintendent who brought up the matter of selecting supervisors for the various playground centers to be opened for the summer months, Mr. Coates moved that this matter be referred to the Playgrounds Committee with power to act. Mr.· Alton seconded the motion and upon roll call same was carried, all members present voting 11 Aye." Mr. Whiteford then stated that it had been the custom of the Board in former years to allow the annexes to be used by teachers during the vacation for summer school, and aske•i whether this custom should be continued or whether school should be held at the expense of the Board for pupils who had failed of promotion. 1
Mr, Mee moved that the Board permit the annexes to be used by the teachers for summer school at no expense to the Board. Mr. Coates seconded the motion and same was declared to have carried. Mr. Whiteford called attention to the policy of the Board in regard to the Superintendent and asked the endorsement of the following rules: (1)
The professional work of the schools shall be entrusted to the Superintendent.
(2)
The Superintendent shall nominate all teachers and no teacher shall be elected without having been so nominated.
(3)
The Superintendent shall receive orders and directions from the Board as- a body and not from individual members.
(4)
The Board will deal with teachers· through the Superintendent.
(5)
All questions pertaining to conduct or qualifications of teachers shall be considered in executive session.
