Celebrating Stories of Women at Tampa Museum of Art

The Tampa Museum of Art continues its celebration of the 100 year anniversary and also the100 years since the adoption of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution that guarantees women’s right to vote. In celebration of this historic milestone, part of the Tampa Museum of Art’s centennial year exhibitions focuses on the achievements of women in the arts. Now on view at the Museum is HerStory: Stories of Ancient Heroines and Everyday Women. The exhibition sponsored by Fifth Third Bank explores women in the ancient world through the depictions of goddesses, heroines, mythological characters, and everyday women in the Museum’s collection of classical antiquities. “There is nothing quite like this outstanding exhibition HerStory, part of one of North America’s great collections of ancient art and certainly the most celebrated ancient art collections in the southeastern United States,” said Michael Tomor, the Penny and Jeff Vinik Executive Director of the Tampa Museum of Art. “It brings a fresh new perspective from our amazing Education team, Brittny Bevel and Kessanda Abel, who are both fluent in the stories told through the museum’s Ancient Greek and Roman Collection.”

The Museum is following all CDC protocols with social distancing and capacity limits, and face masks are required to be worn by all guests and staff. To ensure admittance to the Museum, it is suggested to plan your visit in advance by purchasing tickets online.
