Dear Readers The ‘sadhya’ is a feast distinctive to the state. The traditional vegetarian repast served on a banana leaf, is integral to the Malayalee festivities. Today, the somewhat conventional and old-fashioned capital city of Thiruvananthapuram has developed a more modern outlook and we shall elaborate on a variety of gastronomical outlets that are accessible to the discerning diner. Cuisine from different regions in India as well as from around the world are becoming popular with all sections of society and there is a selection of establishments in the city that cater to individual preferences. Such diversity and abundance need to be assessed. The Metro Food Awards fulfill an important role in recognizing excellence in the food industry. This is a unique endeavor, the first attempt to set a benchmark for eateries. It is a challenging task to evaluate participating establishments in the cities of Kerala; the best are recommended to the public who are encouraged to vote for their favorite venue. We have featured award winners in the ‘handbook’, a creditable feat indeed to be judged the best by professionals in the field. Ayurveda, the science which many recognize as the initial healthcare system, is an integral part of Kerala. In the ‘handbook’ we introduce the reader to Ashtangahridayam, the practical interpretation of Ayurveda. The holistic treatment is gaining popularity across the world and many visitors to the state avail of the healing programs. Our motto – ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ (The guest is God); we welcome our guests and treat them with warmth and respect.

he food business particularly of restaurants was receiving low recognition. This was mainly due to a lack of mechanism that could highlight the professionalism and dynamism involved. However, there comes a time in life when acumen and skills has to be focused upon and the good showing of their workmanship needs to be duly rewarded. This time, the diners shall be voting and acknowledging the efforts made by experts in the culinary field who have rendered good food and a good dining experience. Metro Food Awards does not happen to be an event of ordinary Business category. It is a podium that shall recognise the culinary business and aid in brand building. Being the first of its kind in the city, Metro Food Awards will be setting a benchmark in recognizing the performing restaurants. ait is a favorite among people for its seaside location. The sea views along with delicious food and great wines. Bait is a restaurant at Vivanta by Taj-Green Cove, Kovalam. It is a perfect setting for a meal of all local and native specialties accompanied with wine alongside the Arabian Sea. Bait can be reached only within a few minutes from the main complex of Vivanta by Taj-Green Cove by golf cart or by walking. The path that leads to Bait is edged with varieties of plants and palms. It has a silent and tranquil lagoon on one side while the majestic Arabian sea on the other side. The hotel is situated on a hillock, draped in lush greenery and overlooking the sea. The hotel has two sections. One is the open-air section which is on the ground level while the other is on a higher-level set with a wooden structure.

The food Bait is known as the paradise of seafood lovers because of its wide range of seafood dishes ranging from soups to appetizers, pizzas to platters. So much so, the city saw the mushrooming of many a food joints and hangouts in and around… The Mexican, Chinese, Thai, and the Arab world find its way into the dining habits of the urbanite and semi urbanite folks .The growth in the socio economic status of the people also cater to this boom of food courts. The old Gopalan nair and his tea shop, where the village folks assembled to discuss international issues has become a myth. The age old saying even if you go to the moon you will find Gopalettan running a teashop there no longer holds good. Even the old hamlets are a passé. The

Online cut groceries and packed curries and the take away corners all show a different food culture hitherto unknown. It’s a great boon for all working mothers as they can relax at home after a day’s trial at office. Yes, the old laid back city is in a bubbly mood, with spruced up restaurants and star studded hotels that serve class refined dine outs. Come on let changes sweep her off but her soul and the old way charm she flaunts will be like that for eternity.

Kollam saw its distinguished restaurateurs being recognized and acknowledged through ‘Metro Food Awards’ by Metro Mart in association with Kerala Tourism, Kollam DTPC, Kollam Tourism Promotion Society, and Kerafed.

he food business particularly of restaurants was receiving low recognition. This was mainly due to a lack of mechanism that could highlight the professionalism and dynamism involved. However, there comes a time in life when acumen and skills has to be focused upon and the good showing of their workmanship needs to be duly rewarded. This time, the diners shall be voting and acknowledging the efforts made by experts in the culinary field who have rendered good food and a good dining experience.
