Brazilian Journalist and meditation devotee, Alexia Nascimento Roizner has created a meditation cushion that helps you find your zen with perfect posture. Alexia with the help of her husband, whose textile engineer degree was essential in creating this seat researched ancient Zen & Yoga poses to come up with a solution that maximizes support and comfort. Designed to position the body in the perfect sukhasana pose, also known as “easy seated pose.” The seat eases hip tension and reducing stress by raising the hips and angles them forward to naturally make you sit up straight, while your legs fold underneath you—without the pressure of your body weight. The Alexia Meditation Seat’s lotus-like design comes in 10 richly colored fabric or leather variations—it’s an unusual-but-practical piece. Whether you’re working, relaxing, or just watching TV the Alexia Meditation Seat can improve your meditation practice as well as your posture.

nown for her bold and colorful signature prints, and bohemian California style, designer Trina Turk has made her mark on almost every area of design. With a women’s ready-to-wear line, accessories, swimwear, recreation, a Mr. Turk menswear line, residential décor and textiles, handbag and jewelry collections. This Summer the designer will make her mark on South Florida with the opening of a 4500 square foot Trina Turk and Mr. Turk boutique in Miami’s MiMo District. “Miami embraces color and so do we. We are especially excited to introduce the Miami customer to the full breadth of our brand including an expanded assortment of Mr. Turk menswear and swimwear appealing to both locals and visitors,” says Turk.
22 METROPOLITANLUXE.COM | SUMMER 2016
The 7200 Biscayne Blvd location will be one of the first major fashion retailers in the up-and-coming MiMo District. “This neighborhood has a similar vibe to the once quiet stretch of Palm Canyon Drive where we opened our flagship boutique in Palm Springs, CA,” said Turk. “The establishment of our store there sparked a revitalization of the surrounding area, with new retail businesses opening around us. We look forward to the same occurring in the Mimo district, where the renewal is well under way with great restaurants and the Vagabond Hotel nearby. We love the midcentury architecture in Mimo and are excited to introduce Trina Turk and Mr Turk to the area.” This season the designer celebrates yet another first; as she teams up with Disney Consumer
Products and Interactive Media for their first designer beachwear collaboration based on the world of Disney-Pixar. Inspired by the animated feature “The Finding Dory collection from Trina Turk celebrates the much-loved characters from the movie through unique designs offering the perfect blend of fun and fashion.” Said Josh Silverman, executive vice president, global licensing, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. The collection will include apparel for woman and girls, swimwear for the whole family, as well as handbags and accessories.

“Our brand’s Southern California vibe was a perfect fit with Disney Pixar’s Finding Dory,” said Trina Turk. “The inspiration for the print came from the film’s background art, with Dory and Nemo swimming through bright multicolored seaweed, coral and anemones against an aqua background. These cheerful surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for Dory and her friends in this exclusive print.” Prices range from $48 to $228. Jewelry designer Pamela Huizenga uses lifelong passion for gems to convey the beauty of nature by robin bradley hansel
G
ifted jeweler and native Floridian, Pamela Huizenga, is not afraid to take risks as evidenced by her signature selection of bold and breathtaking gemstones. By embracing the natural imperfections of stones, the artist accentuates the beauty of what others might perceive as flaws, resulting in her celebrated, custom designs. “Colors that I frequently gravitate towards and use in my work may not be the standard for most, but for me they perfectly reflect nature and all its splendor,” says Huizenga. Fascinated early in life with the beauty and characteristics of gemstones, she often refers to herself as a “rockhound” who takes great pleasure sharing her knowledge of gems with others. Huizenga began learning to cut and set stones at the age of 16.
24 METROPOLITANLUXE.COM | SUMMER 2016
Huizenga says there is probably nothing better than having someone see one of her pieces, fall in love with it, and purchase it for their own collection. Her hope is to continue to educate individuals who view and purchase her jewelry about unusual gemstones and rare minerals they have likely never before encountered. When asked to describe her unique design process, Huizenga explains that it all begins with the layout and cutting of the stones. “After that, it’s literally me standing next to my workbench, walking through each step until I achieve what I envision in my head. Since each piece is one-of-a-kind, sometimes the manifestation of my work happens organically, and my usual process is turned upside down,” explains the artist who shares that she loves when the creative experience takes a fresh turn. Thanks to her professional success and carefully cultivated global relationships within the industry, Huizenga

as Neiman Marcus, the artist has focused her eye on the future.
“The colors of Telluride and the North Carolina mountains in the summer are also especially impactful to me. Of course, being a native Floridian, the ocean drives me towards aquamarine and opals because of how they make me feel,” she says.
While Huizenga does not have any upcoming shows in Florida, she does have an exciting summer showcase in Nantucket lasting through the end of September providing a fantastic opportunity to catch a glimpse of her enchanting jewelry.
Until recently, Huizenga says she’s focused on establishing her international brand. With her work now in high-end boutiques, fine independent jewelers and exclusive select retailers such

TAYLOR M A DE
Miami Dolphins legend Jason Taylor is one of the NFL’s most decorated players, but he has a lot more than his professional accolades to be proud of. by m a r i a n a r o d r i gu e s
L
ooking at him now, it is hard to imagine Jason Taylor, 41, as a 15-year-old kid from Pittsburgh who was once told he was too skinny for football – “a number 2 pencil only 160 pounds on an already 6-foot-2 frame,” remembers Taylor.
for Humanity and the Urban League, in 2004, he established the Jason Taylor Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to support and create programs that facilitate the personal growth and empowerment of South Florida’s children in need by focusing on improved healthcare, education and quality of life.
Drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 1997, he became the greatest pass rusher in the National Football League (NFL) franchise’s 50-year history and one of its most feared defenders. After one-year stints with the Washington Redskins (2008) and with the New York Jets (2010), Taylor returned to the Miami Dolphins in 2011 to play his 15th and final NFL season. He played his final game on January 1, 2012 in a win against the New York Jets, culminating 13 years (1997-2007; 2009, 2011) in Miami where he amassed a team record of 131 career sacks.
The Foundation prides itself on creative and innovative programming. Currently, more than 125 middle and high school students participate in the Jason Taylor Reading Room, a comprehensive after-school program launched in 2007 to address literacy challenges among inner city youth. In an effort to also provide a creative outlet for students, the Reading Room includes a weekly spoken word poetry session called the bluapple Poetry Corner. The initiative encourages students to utilize critical literacy skills as a vehicle for selfexpression and has rapidly expanded to more than 60 schools across Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and St. Lucie counties.
It was also in Miami where Taylor made a name for himself away from the field. In addition to his work with numerous charitable organizations including the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, United Way, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, First Book, Habitat
Coming up on September 5, the Foundation will kickoff its annual Cool Gear for the School Year back-toschool program, which gives 60 deserving kids $300 SUMMER 2016 | METROPOLITANLUXE.COM 29
to purchase new school clothes at a local Old Navy store with the assistance of a celebrity shopper. Nearly 700 children have participated in the program. “It’s a joy being able to put a smile on somebody else’s face or impact somebody’s life in a positive way and help them along their road to success,” said Taylor, who credits his mother for his charitable drive. “Success for everybody can be different. It’s not just making it to the NFL.” Since opening its doors, the Jason Taylor Foundation has contributed nearly $5,000,000 in programs and services to benefit youth. It is this commitment on and off the field that resulted in Taylor being named the 2007 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year. With so many accolades already to his name, you would think that Taylor is ready to sit back and enjoy the ride. But he is just getting started. He has built up a successful television and radio career as an NFL analyst for ESPN, NBC Sports and Sirius/XM NFL Radio, secured a second-place finish on the sixth season of Dancing with the Stars and was named one of PEOPLE Magazine’s 2008 100 Most Beautiful People. He has also partnered with the Invicta Watch Group and CEO Eyal Lalo on a number of charitable ventures and a collection of limited edition watches.

Taylor is a dad to three children with his wife Katina - 13- and 12-year-old sons, who also play football, and a 10-year-old daughter. At 6-foot-6, 255 pounds, Taylor’s achievements are as impressive as his stature. A legend both on and off the field, he has made a lasting impact on South Florida and we are sure this is just the beginning ◘

NO ORDINARY ACT Montreal based performance troupe,CIRQUE ÉLOIZE bring their new act – CIRKOPOLIS to the Arsht Center this Summer. Cirque Eloize has reinvented circus arts by combining theater, dance and music in a fresh and original way. This will be the shows Florida premiere, and you can expect some of the traditional circus style elements from the troupes 11 acrobats: juggling, contortions, and aerial arts. But it’s the original score, video projects and carefully coordinated unfolding of the scenes that gives the show its acclaim. “CIRKOPOLIS was imagined as a crossroads – between imagination and reality, between individuality and community, between limits and possibilities. The show is driven by the poetic impulse of life, the physical prowess of the circus and its humor, at once serious and light-hearted. Entering CIRKOPOLIS is all about letting go and allowing yourself to be borne aloft by hope,” explains Cirque Éloize artistic director and CIRKOPOLIS co-director Jeannot Painchaud. Tickets to CIRKOPOLIS are $49, $69 and $89. Visit arshtcenter.org Show dates July 8th – 31st

PROJECT GALLERY: ROBERT RAUSCHENBERG
June 17 – Oct. 9, 2016 Drawing entirely from PAMM’s collection, this exhibition presents a series of works by American master artist, Robert Rauschenberg (b. 1925, Port Arthur, Texas; d. 2008, Captiva, Florida)— who lived in Captiva Island, Florida, for over 35 years and whose legacy influenced artistic development of South Florida. Rauschenberg is celebrated internationally for incorporating mass media to modern-day culture. In the 1950s, he began to create sculptures and paintings using images taken from newspapers, magazines, and postcards that exemplified mainstream Western culture of the mid-20th century. He worked with found objects such as clothes or cardboard boxes, producing unique works that have elements of drawing, painting, and sculpture. ◄ FUNCTIONAL ART Jewelry designer Jessica Kagan Cushman and philanthropist Judy Dimon have collaborated to launch boutique hardware line, JKC&D. These whimsical draws and pulls are inspired by Jessica’s jewelry designs. “I use a lot of the same processes, such as lost wax casting, to design the hardware as I do my jewelry,” says Cushman. Jessica’s unusual techniques like employing the same method used for automotive enamel to add brilliant color, engraving witty quotes, incorporating fossils or luxe semi-precious stones, or casting knobs in nontraditional shapes such as hands bring a distinctive element to the designs.

JKC&D will also offer completely bespoke services, collaborating with clients and designers to create custom designs to fit a specific style, need or space, affording customers the opportunity to distinguish their home with truly one-of-a-kind hardware. Stephen Burks and Nicholas Roche collaborate to extend the TRAVELER COLLECTION Nicholas Roche and Stephen Burks collaborate to reimagine the iconic American and European Traveler armchairs created for Roche Bobois in 2015. Inspired by travels throughout Asian the duo have crafted a complete outdoor collection distinguished by a tubular lacquered steel structure, wound with colored cord. The new 2016 Asia Collection includes a circular dining table, dining chairs, sofa, armchair and hooded armchair, available in two colorways: bright coral, red and yellow or soft grey, white and luminescent turquoise. There is a choice of two cushion colors; up to four different combinations can be created.

“The Traveler Collection is an ongoing project with Roche Bobois that Nicholas Roche and I imagine collaborating on in different countries around the world. The concept is about exploring ways for a conscious luxury brand like Roche Bobois to have a dialogue with new markets through expressive artisanal products. This time, Nicholas Roche and I went to Indonesia to extend the Traveler family and produce the Asian Traveler. For the Asian Traveler I built upon the European Traveler’s woven leather cord and skeletal frame to create a full outdoor collection for Roche Bobois in my signature vocabulary of woven vibrancy inspired by rich Indonesian craftsmanship.” – Stephen Burks SUMMER 2016 | METROPOLITANLUXE.COM 39

COMPACT LUXURY The UKs growing trend for smaller luxury homes has finally crossed the pond. Frank Mckinney introdues the “first-ever micro-mansion” to the South Florida market.
I
nnovative and revolutionary real estate developer, Frank McKinney unveiled his latest project, the “firstever micro mansion”. The developer traditionally known for building expansive, opulent mansions, with one-of-a-kind finishes presented his latest project via 3D presentation from his ocean front office on Delray Beach. The 4,000 square foot “micro-mansion” is now under construction, and is expected to be completed by the end of this year, New Year’s Eve to be exact. It will feature an ultra-modern design and unique amenities including a sun deck floating between two pools, antique wood flooring from a sunken 16th century Spanish Galleon, sea-glass kitchen counter tops, and a
master bedroom suite with a second floor outdoor master shower with trees growing into it, among other extraordinary features. Although 4,000 square feet is hardly considered tiny by anyone’s standards, McKinney has tapped into elements of the Tiny House culture that are appealing to many real estate buyers and translated that into a suitable option for the more discerning clientele. “I’ve dominated the high-end speculative real estate marketplace for over 25 years and I’ve witnessed the evolution of the high-end buyer. It’s been dramatic. They desire the artistry, luxury, quality and leading
fr ank mckinne y
edge technology, yet now want it in a much smaller and more manageable home,” said McKinney. “My exclusive Micro Mansions will have the $4,000 per square foot finishes, yet will need only 4,000 square feet, not 40,000, to showcase the artistry that distinguishes these homes from all others. Sophisticated buyers are inspired by great ideas… high net worth individuals with multiple homes are intrigued by the idea of a simplified, yet spectacular and privileged life. I believe the time has come for my Micro Mansion to be a force in the luxury real estate market.” The property is located in Ocean Ridge and is estimated to be listed between $4 – $10 Million. WEST OF COLLINS A New Luxury Residence Dawns in Sunny Isles
I
f you do a search for new luxury real estate developments in South Florida the overwhelming number of available properties will amaze you. But consider narrowing the search criteria just a bit to hone in on properties with prime amenities, ocean views and free membership to a private jet service all for under a $1M, and that list narrows drastically to just one listing – Aurora Condominiums. The 61-unit boutique style development in Sunny Isles, just north of Bal Harbour is a seventeen story, mixed use property that will sit on the west side of Collins Ave; Aurora will be the first new development to break ground on that side of the avenue in nearly a decade. The top thirteen floors are 46 METROPOLITANLUXE.COM | SUMMER 2016
designated residential, the ground floor will offer options for commercial use. Parking is reserved for the 2nd and third floors. Although not directly on the beachfront, the development offers amazing ocean views. With 2 and 3 bedroom floor plans ranging from 1,500 to 2,100 square feet, with private lanais and penthouse options. When asked whether there were concerns about how potential buyers would respond to the indirect ocean access developers expressed confidence in their strategy of focusing on competitive pricing and quality development. “Our price point is two times less than units of the same quality that are on the ocean. Because we’re across the street, we are able to offer our units for much less.” says Tim Lobanov,
Managing Director of Verzasca Group, Auroa’s development company. “With the beach concierge service that we offer and the ocean views that residents still have, they really don’t feel like they’re missing out on anything.” Luis Revuelta, Principal at Revuelta Architecture, who designed the property, also offered some perspective on the location of the development. “Collins Avenue in Sunny Isles Beach divides areas of low-to-mid-rise density to the west and pronounced high-rise buildings to the east. From an urbanistic, as well as architectural standpoint, our project serves as the proper elegant transitional piece between these two opposing conditions.” Each residence offers floor-to-ceiling windows, 10’ ceilings, and private elevator
entry. Designed with modern finishes, combination of natural stones and woods – the aesthetic is beachy, but still maintains the element of elegance you’d expect from a luxury condominium, the work of renowned interior design team, Antrobus & Ramirez. The building amenities are world class, but in the highly competitive world of luxury real estate most of these are considered pretty standard: a resort style pool and recreation area, indoor/outdoor entertainment areas designed especially for children and families to enjoy, and a state of the art gym with yoga center. The one amenity that sets Aurora apart is the one-year complimentary membership to JetSmarter that is awarded with every purchase. “In our efforts to attract buyers from Northern states – New York, Maryland, etc. – we made the decision to partner with JetSmarter to make it easier for them to fly down to their second home in South Florida,” Lobanov explains. Although the addition of the JetSmarter member has not directly resulted in any sales yet, the feedback and buzz surrounding the membership has been positive, particularly from owners who have already started to use the service. The JetSmarter membership is valued at $9000 and offers flight services to 170 countries.
“Our price point is two times less than units of the same quality that are on the ocean. Because we’re across the street, we are able to offer our units for much less without sacrificing quality at all”
Aurora will break ground in February 2017, and has already sold 30% of their units.

SOFLO CONFIDENTIAL There is no shortage of well-known spots for history, art & culture, and great food, but there are still a few hidden gems that even the most intuned locals may not be privy to. Let’s explore hidden South Florida spots.

1. Burrs’s Berry Farm
Strawberry lovers delight! Burr’s Berry Farm has been serving delicious treats since 1965. Visit this South Florida gem for the finest farm fresh strawberries and the most delicious treats. Sit in the tropical garden and enjoy their famous strawberry shakes and ice cream. 2. Coral Castle Museum
Home to one of the most mysterious sites, the Coral Castle Museum is a sculpture garden in stone, but what makes it truly impressive is that it was built by one man, Edward Leedskalnin. From 1923 to 1951, Ed single-handedly and secretly carved over 1,100 tons of coral rock, and his unknown process has created one of the world’s most mysterious accomplishments. To this day, no one knows exactly how or why 48 METROPOLITANLUXE.COM | SUMMER 2016
Ed created the Coral Castle. Built under the cover of night and in secret, at a time when there were no modern construction conveniences, Ed would only say that he knew “the secret of the pyramids.” When he died, his secrets died with him, and to this day scientists and thinkers still debate Ed’s methods. As for the inspiration or motivation for his creations, some believe it might be homage to unrequited love, his true love cancelled the wedding one day before the planned ceremony. Take a tour of the grounds at 28655 South Dixie Highway, Maimi. Coralcastle.com
4. Le Chat Noir
3
Live Jazz in Miami. Le Chat Noir originated as a nineteenth-century entertainment establishment, in the bohemian Montmartre district of Paris. It opened on 18 November 1881 at 84 Boulevard de Rochechouart by the impresario Rodolphe Salis, and closed in 1897 not long after Salis’ death. One of his descendants reopened the iconic establishment, this time right here in Miami. Go for the live jazz and the ambiance. 2 South Miami Avenue, Miami. Visit lechatnoirdesalis.com

4. The Ancient Spanish Monastery
Most South Floridians aren’t aware of this North Miami Beach treasure. The origins of the Monastery date back to 1133AD, Spain where it was originally constructed and occupied by cistercian monks for nearly 700 years. After a social revolution in the 1830’s, the Monastery’s Cloisters were seized, sold. In 1925, William Randolph Hearst purchased the Cloisters and the Monastery’s outbuildings. The structures were dismantled stone by stone, packed and shipped to the United States. Following financial problems his collection was sold at auction where it remained untouched for 26 years, until it was purchased in 1953 and reassembled. In 1964, Colonel Robert Pentland, Jr, who was a multimillionaire banker, philanthropist purchased the Cloisters and presented them to the Bishop of Florida where it stands today. Learn more about the rich history surrounding this centuries old church. 16711 West Dixie Highway, North Miami Beach. Visit spanishmonastery.com
5. The Little Farm House
Be transported back in time when you visit this 1920’s property, located on a bend of the Little River section of the Miami River on the edge of Little Haiti. The eclectic one-acre oasis consisting of a 1,200 square foot farm house, two story boathouse and six colorful cottages featuring rustic furnishings – all made out of Dade County pine and rescued from a trailer park down the road. Each of structures on the property is charming in its own way, some painted in cheerful Caribbean colors, others in varying tones of white. The cabins, some of which have kitchens and bathrooms, and the boathouse, which has both, can be leased for short stays, events or even photo shoots. See it for yourself at 281 NE 84th Street, Miami. OPTIMISTIC MEDICINE VIP Health Concierge Program Launches In Broward County by Melissa Bryant
T
he future of women’s healthcare isn’t found in a pill or a bottle. According to one South Floridabased company, the key to aging dynamically and becoming more beautiful and effective with age lies in a mindset and lifestyle choices that effect one’s overall wellbeing. WOW Health Group, a new women’s health concierge service with offices in Boca Raton and West Palm Beach, has ushered in a pioneering model of health, Optimistic Medicine™, in South Florida under the helm of healthcare veteran Tanya Abreu, who serves as the company’s president. The approach is simple: by using a positive attitude as the first step to better health, along with preventative healthcare and education on the science and practice of healthy living, clients are able to make a profound impact on their physical health. Abreu called upon her 25 plus years of experience in hospital healthcare and international health consulting, as well as her personal health battles, to create a company that would help other women navigate the vast U.S. healthcare system. “I started WOW Health as a movement that redefines healthcare because I suffered through a couple of health challenges that hit my life back to back: from two rounds with cancer, to sudden onset diabetes, and a battle with Bell’s Palsy,” says Abreu. “If I personally, after more than 20 years in hospital administration, was totally underprepared and overwhelmed by dealing with doctors, hospitals, and the healthcare system, I could only imagine what the average American felt like.” In addition to providing a resource of physicians, healthcare experts, and products
52 METROPOLITANLUXE.COM | SUMMER 2016
for its clients, WOW Health Group offers a variety of wellness services ranging from aesthetics and immune system support to weight management and sexual health, including massages; Master Reiki touch therapy; acupuncture; micronutrient testing; and vitamin therapy and injections, plus lifestyle coaching, esthetics and non-surgical facelifts, platelet rich therapy for facial rejuvenation, hair loss or pain, chemical peels, and microdermabrasion. “I am taking the best of what I learned personally and integrating it with science and the best physicians and healthcare providers around the world to forge Optimistic Medicine™ and a model for all of us that makes getting and staying healthy ridiculously easy and positive,” she added. Women who wish to receive priority access and discounts to professional services can become members of WOW’s VIP Concierge program. This VIP membership also includes a complimentary comprehensive nutrient analysis blood test, which will provide a complete assessment of all nutrients in the body and their cellular function. Using the lab results as baseline to create a personalized wellness program, members are then advised as to which WOW services would best fit their needs under the supervision of WOW Health Group’s primary care doctor, Dr. Immacula Michel, who oversees the medical operation of the Boca Raton and West Palm Beach facilities.
Additionally, at WOW’s Arts Warehouse community center in Boca Raton (3681 North Dixie Hwy.), clients are able to participate in a bevy of fitness-, dance and music related activities in an open space that is also available for private events. Abreu’s take-home message, like her company’s medical approach is encouraging yet simple. “Feeling positive and “wow” about life when you open your eyes in the morning is the single best thing you can do for your health,” she says. “WOW Health will help you get there when it seems hard to do on your own.” All of WOW’s services are currently provided at the WOW Health Group facilities in Boca Raton (1682 North Federal Hwy.) and West Palm Beach (1800 Forest Hill Blvd.), however, Abreu plans to expand further into South Florida in the future. There is an annual $1,500 membership fee for WOW’s VIP Concierge service, which includes a 20 percent discount on all services, including nutrition and wellness counseling and events. MIAMI WELCOMES THE
Langford Hotel by mariana rodrigues
L
ocated in the heart of downtown Miami, the stylish Langford Hotel opened its doors on March 21 as the area’s first historic hotel. Built in 1925, the Langford formerly stood as the Miami National Bank, an iconic building with an impressive Beaux-Arts façade typical of the commercial architecture style seen at the height of Miami’s land boom in the 1920s. The building was designated a historic site by the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. The hotel has since undergone a full remodeling by developer Stambul, management company Trust Hospitality and designers Bloom Miami while maintaining historical details from the original 1925 building. “The key here is authenticity,” says Stambul principal, Daniel Pena Giraldi. “By maintaining the original exterior Beaux Arts façade and embracing the forward-looking style of

Miami’s eclectic business world, the Langford appeals to the past and present of Miami’s culture.” Once inside, the hotel’s historic past is combined with modern, stylish touches throughout the common areas and guest rooms. Located on the second floor, the “Sky Lounge” is an inviting space for guests to relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle of Downtown Miami’s busy streets, featuring white oak floors in a sophisticated herringbone pattern, comfortable, light-colored couches and distinctive Miami touches (such as decorative jai alai cestas lining the wall). The guest rooms are equally as warm and inviting, merging high-end contemporary and antique elements to create a truly unique Miami experience. Colorful vintagestyled wallpaper, headboards inspired by 1950 Cadillac seats, one-of-a-kind luggage racks, a pedestal-style bathroom sink and Waterworks bathroom fixtures are just some of the details
you will find. The bi-level penthouse is striking – bright, cozy and private with impressive views of Miami’s downtown skyline. According to General Manager Oscar Suarez, the Langford’s approach to service is another element that sets the hotel apart from other properties in the area: “We want to provide a service that is unique to the culture of Miami. From the time a guest walks in the door, our staff is friendly, approachable and knowledgeable. Our goal is to make you feel welcomed, like you’ve always been here.” DELECTABLE DINING The hotel is also home to PB Station, a new American eatery by the well-known Miami-based PubbellyBoys, and Pawn Broker, an urban rooftop bar featuring hand-crafted
cocktails, tapas-style bites, live music and an outdoor lounge with panoramic views. Come morning, the outdoor lounge transforms into a peaceful oasis for yoga classes and relaxation. The Langford Hotel blends old Miami with the city’s recent cultural renaissance driven by Downtown Miami’s revitalization and blossoming business and art districts. This seamless merger of old and new creates a certain charm not found in any other property in Miami today. Under one meticulously-styled roof, you can experience the glamour of Miami’s prohibition era at Pawn Broker, get a taste of the city’s diverse culinary influences at PB Station and relax in style in one of the Langford’s 126 rooms or luxurious penthouse. THE GRILL MASTERS ASADO
BY JODI GRACEY
“My earliest food memories are when I was a child of eight or nine. I was invited for lunch under a big tree with the most elegant table with flowers and there was music. I just sat there and thought ‘This is what I want for my life’. That feeling of happiness and celebration ... I want to live everyday like that day.”

lthough these are the words of legendry Chef Francis Mallmann, the sentiments will likely be your own if you pay a visit to the Los Fuegos Restaurant inside the Faena Hotel in Miami Beach for its Sunday Asado. Born from the South American tradition, which marks a time when friends and family gather, usually on the weekend to enjoy a meal prepared on the open fire. Mallman offers a contemporary take, mirroring the family style menu but creating an elevated experience, transforming traditional rustic recipes into sophisticated dishes.
The four-course meal starts with filet stuffed Empanadas for the table. Hot and perfectly prepared, these are accompanied by spicy llajua sauce for dipping. For the first course there is a presentation of Sweetbreads ‘a la Parrilla’ with chimichurri, and burnt lemon. If you prefer to start with the soup or salad, there are additional options for this course, the Chilled Tomato Soup with poached egg and breadcrumbs, a Pink Grapefruit Salad with avocado, arugula, parmigiano-reggiano and roasted hazelnuts, and Provoleta Parrillera.
For the main event, there is a grand selection of Lechoncito, marinated young pig, confit with fine herbs, Sliced Skirt Steak, Slow-Cooked Rib-Eye, Chicken that has been wood-smoked & slowly roasted, Wild Salmon confit with fine herbs, and Chorizo & Blood Sausage accompanied by Chimichurri, Salsa Criolla, or Aioli. Prepared to perfection, Mallmans mastering of the gaucho style grilling techniques are on full display, and you’re reminded just why he’s considered “the grill master.” The hearty presentation of meats, is followed by a selection of sides, a beautiful Heirloom Tomato Salad with stracciatella di bufala and basil, a hearty Potato Salad with eggs, scallions and olive oil, A medley of Grilled Vegetables, and an “out of this world” Polenta ‘a la Plancha,’ crispy and golden brown, this is not-to-be-missed. Mallman skillfully finishes the meal with a selection of light desserts, Dulce de Leche Pancake, Chocolate Nemesis, Fresh Fruit Salad, Grapefruit & Campari Granite. To accompany the meal, bottomless Mimosa and Bloody Marys are offered. There is also a nice selection of rosé perfect for the warm summer afternoons, as well as Faenas own brand of wines. There are indoor and outdoor dining options. The ambiance is festive, but comfortable. You’re inclined to linger, as the aromas from the open-air kitchen, sounds of live music and the fresh ocean air create the perfect complement to an entirely satisfying meal. The Sunday Asado is $75 per person, with $25 for Endless Mimosas, Bloody Mary’s. Los Fuegos, Faena Miami Beach, 3201 Collins Ave

Once thought to be a fad and passing trend, our affection for Rosés show no sign of declining. With a stark increase in sales over the last decade, and higher-priced rosés showing an impressive double-digit growth we look to our local experts to get their take on the best options for Summer sipping.
Scott Kurzawinski, General Manager Pizza Craft and Apothecary 330 Scott Kurzawinski, General Manager at Ft. Lauderdale’s popular dining spots, Pizza Craft and Apothecary 330 is a fan. “Rosé wines are versatile and pair well with many different cuisines. They are higher in acidity and elegant without overpowering the meal.” Says Scott. Two of his favorites include Sartori Rosé from the Veneto Region and Unparalleled Rosé from Coteaux Varois en Provence, France. The Sartori Rosé is a beautiful soft blush color and offers fresh, bright fruit flavors. Scott suggests his guests pair this rosé with the Cheese and Charcuterie plates from the Pizza Craft menu. Unparalleled Rosé, which is made from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes is a dry rosé with refreshing acidity. With flavors of pomegranate and grapefruit, this wine pairs well with a wide variety of foods, from salads to grilled meats. From the Pizza Craft menu, Scott suggests pairing this rosé with the Spicy Soppressata Pizza.”

Fritz Zwahlen, Executive Chef THYME, Carillon Miami Beach World-renowned Executive Chef Fritz Zwahlen of the oceanfront restaurant, THYME at Carillon Miami Beach suggests light dry rosés for summer sipping. “A Light, dry rosé is a perfect option for hot weather drinking. Make sure to serve it chilled. Most Provençal rosés, Pinot Noir based rosés from Burgundy and the Loire, and Italian Bardolino Chiaretto” make great selections, says Chef Fritz. “They go very well with seafood, raw and lightly cooked shellfish and grilled fish, as well as with goat cheese.” Consider Albert Bichot Bourgogne Pinot Noir Rosé, fresh and fruity with citrus and red flower notes. Ample and full, this wine is well-balanced and is altogether harmonious. If you plan on dining at Thyme (and we suggest you do); Chef Fritz recommends enjoying a glass of rosé with their delicious goat cheese and roasted beet salad or the Fresh King crab rolls with a spicy dipping sauce currently available on THYME’s summer menu.

Ilya Panchernikov, Managing Director Caviar Russe Miami “At Caviar Russe our go to rosés this summer are Chateau D’ Esclans Les Clans and Chateau La Gordonne La Chapelle.” Chateau La Gordonne La Chapelle presents both fresh and complex flavors with apricot, grapefruits and strawberry aromas. The perfect accompaniment to rich seafood such as lobster where the finesse and fat in the crustacean marry perfectly with the wine. Chateau D’ Esclans Les Clans is Subtle, with oak aged character, light strawberry and pear aromas. “These are two tremendous wines with excellent body composition.” Ilya recommends that his guest pair these with “high quality raw ingredients such a tuna, Hamachi, and especially Caviar.”
