celebrate excellent and creative use of colour; to showcase striking colour palettes and combinations and provide fresh inspiration–and this year’s submissions did not disappoint. As so many projects have been delayed over the last 18 months, there was a pronounced shift to making the most of what already exists, with many older projects lovingly brought to life with painstaking attention to detail, care and fresh coats of new Resene colour. It did not go unnoticed by the judging panel, which included Sylvia Sandford (colour expert), John Walsh (previous editor of Architecture NZ, architecture writer) and Laura Lynn Johnston (editor of BlackWhite magazine, previous editor of habitat magazine).

Rolleston Fields forever
Construction is well underway on the new Rolleston Fields development.
The $85 million development is being built in four stages over fi ve years. A mixed-use development, it will cater to a wide range of experiences – from food and beverage, health and wellness, retail, o ce and co-working spaces, plus public exploration and play areas.
The goal is to deliver an award-winning town centre for the people of Selwyn.
Caroline Cooper-Dixon and Lilly Cooper of the successful Tennyson55 developments have collaborated with Selwyn Council Urban Planners, Thom Craig and PRAU Studio Architects, IZZARD Hospitality Architects, awardwinning builders Armitage Williams and placemaking and branding specialists Studio South.
Health and wellbeing and eatery precincts are part of the design created by Craig, PRAU, and Izzard. The eatery area includes an inviting outdoor space and covering, so dining al fresco can be enjoyed all year-round.
In the wellness centre, tenants include: O-Studio, contemporary gym Flex Rolleston, Motus Health physiotherapy, and Embrace Skin & Beauty, while eateries will include Burger Fuel, Lone Star, and a Majestic Tea Bar.
The Health and Wellbeing Precinct designed by IKON has a world-class boutique health focus.
From engaging fi tness classes that will utilise the outdoors on the green, saunas and ice baths for those looking for modern holistic therapies, and a spa for somewhere just to relax and unwind, with a facial or massage.

build New Cancer Society support centre
The Cancer Society’s Canterbury-West Coast Division has selected Cook Brothers Construction to build its new combined cancer support centre and patient accommodation facility in Christchurch.
The contract was signed last month, says Elizabeth Chesterman, Chief Executive of the Cancer Society’s Canterbury-West Coast Division. “Cook Brothers Construction will be the main contractor on our new build project.”
Cook Brothers Construction is a national construction company with a longstanding history of restoration, rebuild and community-minded projects in the Christchurch region.
The new Cancer Society facility at 74 Langdons Road in Papanui is due for completion during the fi rst quarter of 2023.
The project received $6.5 million from the New Zealand Government’s Shovel Ready Project Fund, with the remaining cost to be covered by insurance and land sales from the organisation’s earthquake-damaged facilities, as well as a fundraising campaign.
In addition to providing accommodation and transport services, the Cancer Society provides education and support services for cancer patients and their families.
The organisation also undertakes national and regional health promotion and prevention programmes as well as coordinating and funding cancer research.
