CARE FOR YOUR CURLS
Hannah Wright and Tara Vallance became friends 20 years ago when they found themselves living next door to each other.
Atrade certifi ed manufacturing jeweller, Hannah has been making and repairing jewellery for two decades. She loves her work, but the artist within has long yearned to unleash her creativity in her own business.
One night, over a few glasses of wine, the friends hit on a name – Rocks O Artisan Jewellery – and the business was born from that moment. “The name is a little cheeky, like us,” Hannah and Tara say.
Together they make for a dynamic duo, with Hannah as the maker and Tara as the marketing guru, thanks to Tara’s many years in sales roles.
“Our mission is to make distinctive and unique pieces that can be worn every day. People want di erent jewellery now - jewellery that speaks to them - who they are.”
Mabé and Akoya pearls, topaz, rubies and black diamonds often feature in Hannah’s works, while her “kinetic” pieces boast quirky movable components that the wearer can have fun with.
Future plans to custommake on request for niche boutiques and introduce the jewellery into galleries, promises an exciting expansion of this small but mighty business.

curly haircare
Time to embrace your natural locks and try the curly girl method. Here are some tips from Metropol:
IN THE SHOWER:
With curly hair, moisture is key. Avoid washing your hair too frequently as those magic oils you produce are essential for curls. When you do wash your hair, make sure to use a sulfate and silicone free shampoo and conditioner combo which boasts a natural oil base. When conditioning brush your hair out with a wide toothed comb. Once a week use a clarifying shampoo and swap your regular conditioner for a deep conditioning mask.
SLEEP
To preserve the beauty of your newly resurrected curls sleep on a silk pillowcase and tie your hair at the top of your head.
DRYING
For best heatless results, air dry. For the most styled results, use a hair dryer on low with a di user attachment. For the most convenient option, lightly dry by scrunching hair upwards with a cotton t-shirt or microfi bre towel.
STYLING
You will want to hear the squelch when you squeeze the excess water from your hair. The squelch is a sound that only graces those with the perfect amount of conditioner. Next use your preferred styling gel/cream/ mousse for the mid to end lengths. Finish by coating with a small amount of hair oil to prevent frizz.
