Process Description The IPS (Inclined Plate Settler) model LTE or LTE/C provides for flocculation, clarification and thickening. The clarified overflow is normally returned to the process. The sludge fraction is further thickened, stored and compressed in the tank module. The sludge discharge is by centrifugal or positive displacement pumping. If the solids are required in a transportable form a dewatering module can be added to the system.

Tank The tank is manufactured in mild steel and is delivered in prerolled sections for site welding. The tanks 2 or 3m cylindrical sections are lifted by jacks and welded. This erection system is space saving and requires very little scaffolding.

The lamella plate thickness is 4 mm and the standard material is either reinforced PP or ABS plastic.

Drive Unit and Rake System The drive head consists of a gear motor coupled to a planetary gear. A manual or automatic rake lifting system can be supplied if required. The bottom part of the rake shaft is centred by the discharge well, giving a rigid rake operation. The control system consists of a PLC with an operator panel. It is fully automatic including functions for start and stop sequences, torque supervision, density control etc.

Dewatering Module In order to improve transportability of the sludge a dewatering module can be linked to the circuit. One option is a Filter Press module for applications more amenable to dewatering. This dewatering machine usually produces a drier cake. Another option is a Belt Press module, being compact with high capacity. Flocculation is then normally required. For certain applications a conventional Vacuum Filter can be used.

Polymer Station When flocculation is needed the SETL® system is provided with a standard Polymer preparation and dosing module. The module is fully automatic giving accurate control of the polymer dosage. The polymer solution is fed to a flocculator placed at the feed side of the lamella packs.

Discharge Pump Lamella Packs The lamella packs are delivered in standard modules containing a steel frame with lamella plates, guiding profiles and overflow control launders. Lamella plate inclination is 55° with a plate spacing of 50 or 100 mm.

Depending on the duty there are two options for discharge pumps. When the sludge is fed to a Filter Press typically a centrifugal slurry pump will be selected. If the feed is taken to a Belt Press or a Vacuum Filter a positive displacement pump is normally used.

Applications

The SETL® System is a further development of compact sedimentation and dewatering using lamella clarification technology, (IPS).

• Effluents from Sand and Gravel operations.

The SETL® System is a modularised system for treating silts and effluents. The SETL® System is easy to install and operate giving maximum customer return on investment.

• Effluents from Soil operations. • Wet scrubber effluents. • Metallurgical and Chemical process waste water. • Effluents from Coal operations. • Effluents from Waste and Recycling plants.

Concept SETL® can be used for all types of liquid/solid effluents where the liquid and the solids can be separated by flocculation and sedimentation. When mechanical dewatering can be applied the concept also will include dewatering of solids to a handable cake.
