Terms and Conditions

Metway History Metway Electrical Industries was established in 1937 and is still a privately owned family business. Metway has been providing electrical connector solutions for over fifty years to the lighting and electronic sector, now with a range in excess of 20,000 products from simple terminal blocks to PCB mount connectors and transformers.

CONDITIONS OF CONTRACT No condition or stipulations, which are attached to the buyer’s form of order, and which are inconsistent with these terms or which add to or modify them in any way, shall have any effect, unless expressly accepted in writing by a Director of the Company at the time of acknowledgement of each separate order. In the absence of such acceptance, the buyer shall be deemed to have withdrawn or waived his conditions or stipulations and to contract solely on these terms.

The Wiring Systems division was launched in 1999 concentrating on providing a “plug & play” alternative to conventional wiring which has evolved into a rapidly growing business. The inclusion of a full lighting control range ensures that Metway is at the forefront of its market. Metway’s head office in Brighton, incorporating a 17,500 square foot warehouse and production facility, is the hub that enables a fast turnaround of orders. A vast stock holding and on-site manufacturing ensures that customer requirements are met. SPECIAL QUOTATIONS Special quotations at variance from our current PRICE LISTS, and variances from these Terms and Conditions of Trading, shall only be valid if in writing and signed by an authorised official of the Company

Our aim We aim to be the friendliest and most flexible organisation within our industry, providing fast and efficient service to all our customers.

ORDERS Orders should be in writing. Verbal orders will be accepted, but the customer will be responsible for any errors of description or quantity, or date of delivery in goods supplied there under.

Quality policy Metway is committed to a policy that will ensure that our customers are provided with products of a consistently high level of quality, reliability, safety and that products are delivered at the agreed time. Metway is also committed to improving service to our customers by exceeding their expectations.

CANCELLATION 1. After acceptance, orders shall not be subject to cancellation or alteration, except with the agreement of the Company in writing and signed by an authorised official. 2. Cancellation of orders for goods specially made to customers specifications, cannot be accepted 3. Cancellation or alteration charges may be applicable, to cover the cost of our administration

To achieve these objectives the company's Quality Management System is registered to BS EN ISO 9001:2008. As a means to monitor and measure Metway's performance a number of indicators are measured and reported at monthly management meetings, with a view to continual improvement.

NEW ACCOUNTS In order to avoid delay, goods up to the value of £250, can be despatched upon receipt of a completed and signed METWAY credit application form. For orders which exceed this value, it will be necessary to ask for the difference on account. Credit applications are only accepted on the METWAY credit application forms which can be posted or faxed immediately upon request.

The maintenance of quality is the responsibility of all staff and each is responsible for implementing the requirements of the quality system. Staff are trained in all aspects of the quality system. Rigorous quality control procedures and international product approval provides you and your customers with peace of mind. Environmental policy Metway accepts its environmental responsibilities and recognises its obligations to contribute to the resolution of global and local environmental issues by reducing its environmental impacts and by taking a leading role in promoting environmental good practice. Wherever possible we use packaging that is biodegradable or we can arrange for this to be returned to us for recycling or safe disposal. PRICES AND VARIATION 1. All prices quoted or listed by the Company, are based on the prices of the company’s suppliers at the time of quotation listing. These are subject to adjustment prior to despatch to cover any increase in such prices, or in taxation or duty which might take place prior to delivery, such prices are exclusive of packing, carriage and VAT. 2. Where goods are to be imported, the Company reserves the right to vary the price quoted, to reflect the rate of exchange for the purchase of the relevant currency in pounds sterling.

RETURNS We cannot accept the return of goods unless our prior consent has first been obtained, and the goods are returned to us in their original boxes or cartons, and in an unused condition. We reserve the right to make a 10% handling charge, min £40, which ever is the greater, to cover our administration costs, should this be necessary. DRAWINGS/DATA 1. All specifications, drawings and particulars of weights, dimensions, capacity or other details are approximate only. Specific details can be confirmed on request. 2. The responsibility for ensuring that goods are sufficient and suitable for your requirements is your sole responsibility. EXPORT The foregoing conditions also apply to export orders. Our prices are ex works, packing & freight at extra cost. We shall be pleased to quote especially if substantial quantities are required. Payment terms are negotiable. DISCLAIMER Metway will not accept responsibility for connections made between its connectors and other unapproved manufacturers connectors. For details of approved connectors contact Metway.

DELIVERY DATES While the Company will use its best endeavours to meet any stated delivery dates, time shall not be the essence of the contract and the Company shall not be liable for any loss or damage whatsoever, resulting directly or indirectly from late delivery. DELIVERY 1. All prices are ex works, and all or any costs of delivery will be charged to the buyer, unless otherwise stated under the terms of the contract, or at time of order. Goods will be consigned by post, or road transport, to an address in the United Kingdom, specified by the buyer in writing. 2. In the event of non-deliver, the buyer must notify the Company (i) in the case of non-delivery, within the United Kingdom, within 7 days of notification of despatch, or receipt of invoice, whichever is the earlier (ii) In the case of overseas non-delivery, within 14 days of notification of despatch, or receipt of invoice, whichever is the earlier. Otherwise, a claim cannot be made on the carriers for loss in transit, if we are not so advised, the consignee will be deemed to be responsible for the loss 3. Every care is taken in checking goods In the event of shortage or damage, the buyer must notify the Company within 3 days of receipt of goods, the packages and the contents must be retained for carriers inspection where necessary PAYMENT 1. Payment is strictly 30 days Net, unless otherwise agreed in writing and signed by a director of the company. 2. If payment is not made in accordance with the agreed terms, the buyer shall be deemed to be in default of payment and the Company shall be entitled without prejudice to any other rights it may have to charge interest at the rate of 8% above the Bank of England base rate, from time to time in force, until the amount owing is paid in full. The Company reserves the right to charge the buyer for any legal costs involved in connection with the recovery of outstanding amounts due. 3. Failure to make due payment of deliveries, under these terms, or any other contract between the buyer and the Company, shall entitle the Company to delay, suspend, or cancel deliveries in whole or in part at its option, or withdraw account facilities. 4. If account facilities are withdrawn, then all outstanding invoices will immediately fall due for payment, and a demand as such will be made at the time of withdrawal of these facilities

RETENTION OF TITLE 1. The property and title to the goods shall remain with the Company, until such time as all sums owing for and in respect of the goods have been received from the buyer by the Company 2. Until such time, the buyer is required to store the goods in such a way, that they clearly remain the property of the Company.

Series 166F plug and socket connectors are primarily intended for use with lighting equipment, where limited access requires the use of low profile mouldings. They are available in 3 pole lengths (see options) and have an extended earth plug fitted as standard. They can be connected and disconnected under load in accordance with VDE 0627. They come complete with covers and base plates in an unassembled condition. Use in pairs or with snap in panel mount versions as shown on page 9.

Series 166E plug and socket connectors are primarily intended for use with lighting equipment, appliances and other housings where secure connections and quick release for servicing are essential. They are designed to simply push in to panels which have preformed rectangular slots. They are available in 3 pole lengths and have an extended earth plug fitted as standard. They are fully "touchproof" in both fitted and unfitted positions. Each pole is polarised to prevent incorrect alignment. The internal connections are for use as screwless connectors, suitable for tinned stranded or solid conductors. Untinned stranded conductors cannot be used with this type.

FEATURES Series 166KU/GKU are used to connect permanently installed plugs (mains supply) and sockets (output). Suitable for use in electrical devices, such as furniture luminaires. Type KU are used in conjunction with series 166(1) connectors and type GKU are used with all 'G' series connectors. Series 166VKE/VKH are end caps for isolating all 166 series plug and socket connectors. They simply push into the plug or socket with a snap fit.

Starter leads are either plug to free end or socket to free end and extender leads are plug to socket. They can be connected & disconnected under load in accordance with VDE 0627. The 166GPF series spring clamp connectors provide the same features as the 166GF series on page 16 but with the added advantage of a loop in and loop out facility for sheathed cables. This is facilitated by the use of two spring clamp terminals per pole as well as a double cable entry in the housing. The spring clamp terminals are suitable for use with solid core cable and flexible cables with ferruled or tinned ends in conductor sizes up to 2.5mm². The cable entry in the housing is suitable for use with H05VV-F round cables that have an outside diameter of 6.5mm up to 10.5mm.

Series 166G classic plug and socket connectors are primarily designed for use in lighting and power applications where secure connections and quick release for servicing are essential. They comply with EN 61 984 (VDE 0627) connecting and disconnecting under load and when using additional latching they may also be used in installation systems (VDE 0628). Additionally they comply with IEC 61535 (VDE 0606 part 200) for “not easily accessible areas”. They are available in 4 pole lengths only and have a leading earth pin fitted as standard. They are fully touchproof in both connected and unconnected positions and each pole is mechanically coded differently to prevent incorrect alignment.

Series 1661 ZEL covers and bases are for use with 166G classic 4 pole plug and socket connectors. They are supplied as unassembled piece parts consisting of a base, cover and screws. They are suitable for use with H05VV-F round conductors with an outside diameter of 6.5mm – 11.5mm. There is a choice of covers either with or without interlocking and cable entry can be specified as either half round for cables 6.5mm – 8.5mm diameter or flat for cables 9mm – 11.5mm diameter.

Series 166GE 4 pole mounting plug and socket connectors provide a simple snap in device for emergency type luminaires and other electrical equipment where daisy chaining of fittings is required. They are simply pushed into a preformed slot in the appliance and internal solid or ultrasonically welded stranded conductors are pushed into the screwless terminals at the back. Use with connectors as shown on page 24 or pre-assembled leads as shown on pages 28 & 29. For prevention of accidental disconnection of connectors use locking slides as shown on page 21.

Tee Modules Appliance couplers (EN 60 320) Installation couplers (EN 61 535) The Metway “Tee” module utilises the GST range of connectors and is available in two formats, fixed or remote versions, making any component quickly and easily adaptable to the Metway Wiring System. Metway’s production facility is able to pre-wire the Lighting Control Modules with a system compatible tee and liaise with and supply the chosen luminaire manufacturer to ensure that all parts arrive on site pre-wired for ease of installation. Connectors are fully colour coded and mechanically polarised to prevent mismatching. Latching comes as standard.

SERIES 160/163 plug and socket connectors are available in 2, 3 and 5 pole lengths. The shrouding of the plug connectors prevent the two parts being incorrectly assembled. The 3 and 5 pole plug sections (163ST) have a leading earth pin which is 2mm longer, situated in the centre pole. The socket section (160BU) has a shroud to ensure that the plugs are totally enclosed before the earth connection is made. Covers and base plates, 163ZEL/ABK are available in 3 and 5 pole versions only. The cover (163ABK) can be used by snapping onto the plug or socket or both. The base plate (163ZEL) is supplied complete with an integral cord grip and screws which are supplied loose.

Series 560 ceramic terminal blocks offer a variety of models for explosion-proof and high temperature applications. These terminals comprise of a glazed steatite mount and two riveted flat-type screw terminals secured to prevent them from twisting, similar to DIN 41000, with binding clip C or D and spring washers B DIN 127. The blocks may either be used rail mounted or independently. The base has a longitudinal slot at the bottom for non-twist securing on mounting rails 16mm x 3mm (0.63” x 0.12”). The surfaces next to the screw-fixing hole can be used for marking purposes. Recommended mounting hardware: M4 pan head screw.

Series 307PC tab type terminal blocks are barrier connectors suitable for medium duty applications. The polycarbonate mouldings allow relatively high working temperatures (up to 135° C) and are suitable for use with conductors with crimped terminals fitted. The tabs are fitted in two styles, firstly in a rivetted "star" format as styles WE1 to WE42 which have various tab arrangements in flat, 45° & 90°. Alternatively, tab styles WE53 to WE66 have flat tabs only with spacers between. These are particularly suitable for use with 3070 A & B covers as shown on page 103.

Series 3070 terminal block covers are suitable for use with all types of series 307PCF screw type terminal blocks as shown on page 102, and with all flat tab terminal blocks series 307PC as shown on page 101. They are available in polystyrene material (type A) or nylon (type B) in lengths from 2 to 12 poles.

Type 307021 is used for all tab styles except WE54 and WE66, which use type 307018. Please note. These pins are supplied as a separate item to the covers. Series DK4 connectors provide feed through connections for resin filled transformers to connect internal wiring to outside terminals. They are fitted by pushing into pre-drilled holes in the transformer (7.2mm dia). Hole spacing is 10mm with a wall thickness range of 1.2mm - 4mm (type DK4) or 0.8mm - 4mm (type DKS). They can be assembled to any length from the basic one pole version. External wiring is with rising clamp terminals and internal wiring through open or closed slot solder tags. Once mounted these connectors meet the finger guard test. Type DKS has an additional sleeve on the fixing lug which allows them to be used with low viscosity sealing compounds.

The proven screw-clamp design offers high contact force and is very user friendly. The range covers terminals for conductor sizes 0.5mm² - 95mm² and the special foot design provides a slot for easy mounting and removal of a single terminal from a stack, using a screwdriver.

Metwayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s earth terminal blocks replace the conventional Bus Bar used for earthing. The structural design is such that the mounting rail not only has a mechanical but also an electrical function. Earthing is achieved through the foot which clamps directly onto the rail with the earth terminals being mounted on the same rail along with the other terminal blocks. The earthing conductor is brass with a nickel-tin plating providing a low resistance path and the housings are a green-yellow combination in accordance with universally accepted colour coding for earthing.

In control and automation applications where a fuse protection facility is required, Metway can offer terminal blocks with a built-in safety fuse lever. These terminal blocks accommodate a glass cartridge fuse of 5mm x 20mm, 5mm x 25mm, and 6mm x 32mm in size. The fuseholder itself is manufactured from a special grade phosphor-bronze providing low contact resistance. A solid brass link type DL4 can be inserted in place of the fuse which makes it possible to use the terminal as a disconnecting type. The 4D and 4A types are supplied with a red LED to act as a blown fuse indicator.
