The Fallen Church 2021 Reuse Italy - Competition Reuse The Fallen Church Location: Grottole, MT, Italy Collaboration with: Maria Victória de Oliveira Penteado

Chiesa Diruta is a catholic church built in Grottole (MT) in the 15th century, in order to host the local community of clergymen. It suffered a lot of damages due to earthquakes, fires and building issues so it was soon abandoned. Participants of this competitions are asked to reuse this space as a Concert Hall.

This project is based on the Brandian principles of restoration: minimal intervention, distinction and reversibility. The main material chosen for the proposal was metal painted in mint green - a color that reflects the Mediterranean landscape. The intervention’s kept distant from the structure and only touches it at strategic support points. The first design decision made was the location of the stage under the oculus of the ruin, which stands out for its height in the building and surroundings. The nave’s space was then reserved for the audience, in a distribution similar to that of a church with its altar and pews. Part of the façade collapsed as a result of an earthquake more than 30 years ago. It was decided not to intervene on it in a way that would fill it or hide the shape, embracing the void and transforming it into the main access of the project, accepting the effects of the passage of time. The concert space was raised one floor above the ground, as a strategy to free the nave on the ground floor and transform them into a large covered square, which became the essence of the project. This way, the view is wide and uninterrupted for the entire length of the ruin. The free ground floor is also an invitation for the local community to appropriate the space and a possible venue for events. The project’s roof is low and translucent, supported on the wide walls of the ruin and respects the hierarchy of the building’s heights. Aiming for a better sound quality, acoustic panels were suspended in the structure of the roof itself. The administration and other storage areas are located in the underground floor, that has a generous ceiling height and was partially subdivided to better accommodate these uses. Some totems in the open portion of the underground, so that the visitor can buy their tickets and get information. Finally, the proposal offers a space for everyone, whether they are visitors or residents of Grottole, a meeting point that the community can appropriate in everyday life and perceive the ruin in unprecedented perspectives.

Semico;on House 2021 Bee Breeders - Competition Home for the Blind Location: Curitiba, PR, Brazil Collaboration with: Maria Victória de Oliveira Penteado

In order to better anchor the project, we imagined a fictitious blind occupant who would live and work on the same site, which would entail two spaces in consonance. The client, Cecília, teaches music to children, both privately and in small groups. The location chosen for the project is Curitiba, one of the southern state of Paraná. The city is currently experiencing a water crisis. Since May 2020, water rationing has been in effect and as of yet there is no end date in sight.

The house is formed by two arch segments and negative spaces that form patios for different uses. One of the arches is centered on the Araucária, honoring its presence by emphasizing its location when circulating around the house. The spaces are divided in the same rhythm as the roof, which has beams every 10 degrees, creating uniform modules that support the structure of the house as a whole.

Therefore, we chose the Jardim Botânico neighborhood. The selected site has a medium-sized Araucária in the front, where we implemented a wind chime, thus creating an auditory landmark upon arrival. We chose to build a one-story house with a radial layout, inspired by the Casa Oswaldo Navarro, by the Memorial de Curitiba, and by the tree itself.

Historical Heritage and Restoration School & Arts School In group, Arquivo Arquitetura team made a physical model of the new research center that is located in Largo da Ordem. Partnered with the city hall, this hystorical building was remodeled from being a restaurant to be a production and exposition university space. The model is 1:75 scale, made in expanded polystyrene with plaster finish. Contenda’s Park 2018 Landscaping 2 - UTFPR Location: Contenda, PR, Brazil Collaboration with: Ana Julia Gomes, Andressa Uhlick, Gustavo Machado and Matheus Namur

The challenge of the discipline was to design a park with an integrated school in a small city in the metropolitan region of Curitiba, Contenda - a town with 15000 inhabitants. As the terrain is in the urban limits, the biggest project inspiration was the concept of fading

and gradual transformation. This concept was expressed in full and empty, positive and negative spaces in the different pavements of the park that change according to use. The change in colors, presence and absence, difference in texture creates a feeling of fluidity and perception of change when walking trough the space, realizing different uses. At the center of the project is a landmark that, in addition to different paving and perfect circular shape, also has the tallest light of the park. This landmark divides the uses of sports (with skating rink and skatepark, sports courts and the school gym), living area and walking circuit. Finally, interrupted paths were connected and a observatory built in the upper area, of environmental preservation, bringing a tourism and leisure use to the space. This project was developed using: Autocad, Illustrator and Lumion

Dr. Pádua Salles Elementary School

Municipal

2019 Final Graduation Project Location: Jaú, SP, Brazil Advisor Professors: Profa Dra Giceli Portela and Prof Rodrigo Ramon Rodrigues

At Edgard Ferraz Street, 665, in the heart of Jaú, in the central region of the state of São Paulo, the Municipal Elementary School Dr. Pádua Salles was built, the city’s first public school. It was founded in 1903, designed by the engineer and writer Euclides da Cunha and has been operating since then with few hiatus. According to surveys available on the official website of CONDEPHAAT, the building belonged to the State and occupied an area of 1702 square meters. The school is one of the members of a group of 126 public schools built by the Government of the State of São Paulo between 1890 and 1930 that share cultural, historical and architectural meanings. These buildings express the innovative and model character of public educational policies that, during the First Republic, were recognized as inherent to the role of the State the promotion of basic education and the training of teachers well prepared for this function.

The plans that the city has made available are displayed on the right, showing the historic building on the front and the multiple annexes that were built in the following years and occupying the site in a disorderly manner. There were some design proFirst Floor Plan blems such as the lack of accessibility for wheelchair users, not having any toilets in the main building, the absence of a library Second Floor Plan or sufficiently sized space for meals, therefore the intervention proposal seeks solutions to these flaws. The decision was to maintain only the historic building and to build a new and completely accessible annex. On the first floor of this annex, a covered cafeteria was located, but with no walls, because Jaú is a very hot city. On the second floor, a large library with access

for wheelchair users via elevator and, on its right, a stage with a suspended grandstand to rescue the cultural character that previously existed at the school and to stimulate the artistic bias of playing, in addition to creating a space for school events. As for the historic building, its underground has been transformed into a small laboratory. On its right side, where there is currently an annex, toilets and administrative spaces were placed. An elevator tower to make the historic building accessible is placed where there used to be a side door. A walkway connects the two blocks and the interventions stand out for the materials and colors: metal, concrete and pink. The design decision to create a large and unique block creates, in the school, a large area of patios and the pavement chosen for them was based on the hydraulic tiles present in the original project. They layouts of the classrooms were replanned using more adaptable furniture for different dispositions, giving the teachers bigger autonomy in the way they want to organize their students. This project was developed using AutoCad, SketchUp Pro and Illustrator > Academic Work
