The Amityville Horror:
The irony between the mother wearing all black and the child being in white implies that it is the adults that are evil and the child is innocent, yet in this situation it is the other way round. White is a common colour throughout horror films, and it seems to be used to promote evil.
The darkness in comparison to the light on the child draws our focus. The scene seems innocent, although is discussing a much more serious topic, which is the fact the child can see dead people.
The child’s blacked out eyes are a fear factor. Along with the dishevelled, wet look hair, again implies that it is evil and it seems other worldly.
The veins in her cheeks are also something the audience haven’t seen before, it is gross and therefore would make the audience fear it.
The clothes are dirty, holy, but simple; we assume this garment to be a smock. This gives a ghost like effect.
The pyjamas imply vulnerability in the characters which we contrast with the power of the evil characters.
The facial expressions and the hair covering the face implicate a desperation which we associate with their situation. It seems vital to flit from the calm expressions of the evil characters over the distressed expressions of the victims.
