She shuns an online existence and enjoys not being connected digitally. Digital Media Doesnt really engage in any sort of digital media Has an old phone for emergency contacts Hobbies Steiner Philosophy Enlightenment philosophy Goethe Hermann Hesse Stefan Zweig Aspiration Make a movie of ‘The post office girl’ together with Hermann Hesse Concerns Global Warming
Every building deprives a portion of the earth of sun, wind and rain and probably plant and animal life as well. It must redeem this sacrifice by the healing quality of its architecture. -Rudolf Steiner
Deployable Shelters These initial model tests show material behaviour in light conditions. The shelter should be a beacon, that emits light in response to its inhabitation, creating a visual interaction between the user and observers. The shelter also needs to be light, collapsable and easily transportable which defines the materiality and construction of the design.
Inflatable Shelter The inflatable shelter is designed to fold into a suitcase and be carried and deployed in any location. It provides a protective space, shielding from any digital connectivity as well as outside distractions such as noise and light pollution.
Liquid Shelter This collapsable shelter provides protection and privacy as well as an atmosphere for reading philosophy texts. The shelter is made up of a series of tubes that are filled with flowing liquids, creating atmospheric conditions inside the shelter as well as being an indicator to the outside observer. The different colours could be used to indicate alternate scenarios.
Hal Bishop Age :13 School pupil Daily Routine 7:00 - Alarm goes off but snoozes for 30 mins. 7:30 - Gets up and gets ready for school. 7:45 - Eats breakfast, usually cheerios. 8:00 - Leaves home to catch 55 bus to school During Journey reads and listens to music on phone 9:00 - Starts school 11:00 - 11:20 - Break time plays table tennis 13:00 - Lunch, eats and plays table tennis 15:20 - School ends Usually stays behind for detention. Digital Media Doesnt use social-networking Uses Youtube for learning activities Owns a smartphone for texting and internet use Hobbies: MineCraft with friends Computergames with friends Reading and Writing Debating Society Listening to Stories on Radio Performing Lego Aspirations: Writer/story teller Teaching Concerns: Global Warming Poverty
Programmable Playground Digital playgrounds are one of the main past times for genZ. This proposal creates an interaction between the physical and digital world. The environment created online would manifest itself in a physical reality. This allows the children to interact and engage with their play environments.
Mobile Entertainment The concept for the mobile entertainment is to facilitate an individual collectivism. This would allow individuals to use their given tools to interact and engage with the wider community.
Mobile Entertainment Shelter The MES would allow the user to hitch it onto their bicycle to allow it to be transported around the city. It would then be able to be deployed and used as an interactive entertainment installation. This facilitates the social interaction between the user and the group of children in the community.
Opening Canopies The movable canopies open o provide an enclosure and protection from light rain and the elements. The architectural characteristics mimic those of an opening flower.
Lighting Test Canopies The opening canopies create effects with light through translucency and shadows.
Charlotte Nies Age :11 School pupil Daily Routine 6:30 - Alarm goes off and gets up immeadiately 7:00 - Leave for School 7:45 - Arrive at school and start lessons 14:00 - School ends 14:15 - Does afterschool clubs Digital Media Uses lots of social media such as Whatsapp and Facebook Uses the internet for listening to music Owns a smartphone for social activity and music Hobbies and interests: Growing plants and vegetables Talking with friends on the phone Tennis Aspirations: No ideas yet Concerns: Fossil Fuels Global Warming War
City Farm Childrens relation to food production. generation Z has a disconnected relationship to food production. Many do not know where or how food is produced.
Growing Device - Test model This initial test model shows the mirror array and the relation to the plant.
Growing Device in Situ The hydroponic device sits on a window sill allowing access to water and light as well as easy access to the user.
Water Resevoirs :Lens Effect The water resvoirs in the hydroponic device are bulbus. When filled with water, they act as lenses.

Water Pump The water pump supplies the plants with their liquids. As the pump activates, the wheels are turned. These turning wheels are linked to arms which subsequently move back and forth. This changes the conditions of the space. These arms are linked to a violin bow that is also moved back and forth, over stretched strings that then play a tune.

Air Pump The air pump is seen as an inhabitable adjustable space that creates a spatial experience out of the air-pumping action. As the pump is set in motion the bellows rise and fall, slowy modulating the space. The air flows through an algae filtration device to create clean fresh air.

Rain Catcher Rain Water is collected by an opening system. When it is closed it forms a faceted diamond that catches light at different angles to create a glinting effect. When open, the enlarged surface area allows rain to be collected. This water is then stored near the top of the building.
Liquid Illusions Using a strobe light allows the user to create an illusion of the flowing water. The strobe makes the water look as if it standing still or even flowing upwards. These illusionary qualities could be used in the spatial sensory experience of the design.
Water - Sound Effect Laying water on a speaker creates patterns of movement on the surface. Thes patterns could be used to create a spatial experience of processes and movements in the building.
[Academic use only]
Mirror Illusion The mirror installation allows users to repostion themselves in a false reality. The mirrors are individually controllable to seek all green areas in the surroundings, thus creating the effect of being in a wood.
Algae Cultivation Algae has had a recent celebration as a wonder material in many processes including energy production and filtration. An algae photobioreactor cultivates algae to fix CO2 or produces biofuel. This biofuel can then be used in a small onsite generator to power the building.
Building Program Collage The program consists of a framework that facilitates various processes. The overiding idea is a semipermanent hydroponic learning facility. The ground floor is the mixed public access space that allows interchange og goods produced on site as well as entrance to the facility. The first floor is the main space of the hydroponic installation. As well as the active processes in the functioning of the installation. The processes are interactive and facilitate a spatial experience. The top floor hosts the algae bioreactor and reading/teaching/relaxation space.
Material tests making bioplastic Bioplastic is made from renewable biomass algae extracts. It is biodegradable and water proof. Different ingredients allow different characteristics to be acheived. The polymer (agar) is mixed with the plasticiser (glycerol) and then heated to 90 C to bond them together. It can be coloured and treated with other additives.
Wax Test When molten wax is treated with cold water, one can sculpt the resulting form, creating pits and channels. This is allows the creator to control the formation of the wax although iti s slightly unpredictable.
Wax Test This proposal uses wax as a storage mechanism. This could be a passive storage system that uses wax to encase and preserve water and seeds. When the sun shines on the wax, and is focused by a mirror, it begins to melt, thus releasing the contents without any input energy. The wax used is bees wax, a natrual product.
