Musical Interludes

Musical Interludes, formerly Mansions & Music, explores connections between music, literature, history, architecture, and culture.

Last season, concerts returned to the PCM campus for in-person performances featuring PCM faculty and friends. Each program was developed in response to a book, which was available for purchase through our community partner Vroman’s Bookstore.

The Cello Suites, inspired by Eric Siblin’s book, featured Bach’s Cello Suite No. 3 and Piano Trio No. 1 by Felix Mendelssohn, who was instrumental in reviving public interest in Bach. exploring music from medieval Andalusia and celebrated Muslim, Jewish, and Christian traditions.

The final program was inspired by The Secret Piano, a memoir by Zhu Xiao-Mei about how music, and her piano, sustained her sense of courage, hope, and humanity during and after the Cultural Revolution.
