SCOTT PATRICK BATES, JD, now brings over 25 years of successful experience in real estate sales, acquisitions, development, investment, construction management and law to Bates Land Consortium. In his cumulative real estate and legal experience Scott has facilitated or advised on over 300 transactions totaling approximately $750 million and oversaw construction management of several hundred million dollars of projects in multiple states. Scott obtained a juris doctor from the University of Utah’s Law School. He served as a Law Clerk to Chief Judge Dee Benson in the United States District Court for Utah. He also served for three years at the United States Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Utah primarily practicing civil litigation. His early legal experience continued with Extra Space Storage – a NYSE-listed REIT based in Utah – as Associate General Counsel where his focus turned to real estate. He performed the legal aspects of self-storage properties totaling $250 million. In 2006, Scott joined the Larry H. Miller

Group of Companies and became General Counsel. In 2012, he was named President of Larry H. Miller Real Estate. The Miller Group owns 61 auto dealerships in seven states, the Utah Jazz NBA franchise, plus myriad commercial properties and ranches. In this role one of his most rewarding achievements was overseeing the construction management for the major renovation of the Utah Jazz arena.
