Ramadan 2009: The first day of Ramadan (fasting) in North America according to sighting, is expected to be August 22.
An Imam was selling his horse in the market. An interested buyer came to him and requested if he could get a test drive. The Imam told the man that this horse is unique. In order to make it walk, you have to say Subhan-Allah. To make it run, you have to say Alhamdulillah and to make it stop, you have to say Allahu Akbar. The man sat on the horse and said Subhan-Allah. The horse started to walk. Then he said Alhamdulillah and it started to run. He kept saying Alhamdulillah and the horse started running faster and faster. All of a sudden the man noticed that the horse is running towards the edge of the hill that he was riding on. Being overly fearful, he forgot how to stop the horse. He kept saying all these words out of confusion. When the horse was just near the edge, he remembered Allahu Akbar and said it out loud. The horse stopped just one step away from the edge. The man took a deep breath, looked up towards the sky and said Alhamdulillah! www.islamcan.com

Islamic Finance is Booming At least $500 billion in assets around the world are managed in accordance with Sharia, or Islamic law, and the sector is growing at more than 10% per year. In spirit, Islamic finance seeks to promote social justice by banning exploitative practices. In reality, this boils down to a set of prohibitions--on paying interest, on gambling with derivatives and options, and on investing in firms that make pornography or pork. No one can say for sure how many of the world's 1.3 billion Muslims will demand Sharia-compliant financial products, but if even a fraction do, the world's largest banks will be happy to oblige. www.forbes.com

To live in a 3 bedroom house in North America, a person has to work at least 8 hours a day to pay for the rent. Sometimes, that is not enough. Some people without a high paying job have to work 12 hours to 16 hours a day to live in such a house. So much work is required just to live in a t i n y l i t t l e h o u s e o f t h i s w o r l d ! On the other hand, the houses of Janna (Paradise) are not made of 3 bedrooms. Rather, they are gigantic palaces made of the most precious jewels from the treasures of Allah. In this world, we are spending so much time and energy for the 3 bedroom house, however, what are we doing for attaining Janna? www.islamcan.com

THE EXCELLENCE OF QIYAM AL-LAYL Many Qur'anic verses speak about the excellence of Qiyam and the merits of those people, who perform Qiyam al-Layl on a regular basis, for example, Allah describes the believers who deserve Janna saying:
َ ﻀﺎ ِﺟ ِﻊ ﯾَ ْﺪ ُﻋﻮنَ َرﺑﱠﮭُ ْﻢ َﺧﻮْ ﻓﺎ ً َو َط َﻤﻌﺎ ً َو ِﻣ ﱠﻤﺎ َر َز ْﻗﻨَﺎھُ ْﻢ ﯾُﻨﻔِﻘُﻮن َ ﺗَﺘَ َﺠﺎﻓَ ٰﻰ ُﺟﻨُﻮﺑُﮭُ ْﻢ ﻋ َِﻦ ْٱﻟ َﻤ Their sides withdraw, they rise, from their lying places, the places for lying down [to sleep] together with the bedding, in order to spend the night in prayer (tahajjud), to supplicate to their Lord in fear, of His punishment, and in hope, of His mercy, and they expend of what We have provided them, they give voluntary alms.(32:16)
Also, numerous Ahadith add to this subject, narrated Abu Hurayrah (radhi allahu anhu): “The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: “The best prayer after those prescribed is (the prayer performed) in the depth of night.” [Sahih Muslim and Musnad Ahmad] He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) also said: “The most beloved prayer to Allah was of Dawud (alaihi as-salam). He slept one half of the night, got up (and prayed) for one third, and then slept (the remaining) one sixth.” [Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim] Jabir (radhi allahu anhu) reported, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) saying: “There is an hour of the night which no Muslim person encounters and asks for a good thing for this life or the Hereafter, but Allah grants it to him. This happens every night.” [Sahih Muslim]

The Quran Miracles The Description of the Barrier Between Two Seas Oceanographers, in the wake of the scientific progress in this age, have discovered the barrier between two seas. They have found that a barrier separates two neighboring seas. The barrier moves between them, and it is called by scientists “a front” compared to the front between two armies. By virtue of this barrier each sea retains its own characteristics which Allah (SWT) has assigned to it and which are suitable for the organisms living in that environment.
About a hundred years of research and study has been required to discover the fact of the existence of barriers between sea water masses and their role in making each sea retain its own properties. Hundred of researchers took part and numerous precise scientific instruments and equipment were used to achieve that. Fourteen centuries ago the Holy Qur’an revealed this fact. Allah (SWT) says:
ي ( ﻓَﺒِﺄ َ ﱢ20) ( ﺑَ ْﯿﻨَﮭُ َﻤﺎ ﺑَﺮْ َز ٌخ ﻻ ﯾَ ْﺒ ِﻐﯿَﺎ ِن19) ﺎن ِ ََﻣ َﺮ َج ْاﻟﺒَﺤْ َﺮﯾ ِْﻦ ﯾَ ْﻠﺘَﻘِﯿ ُ ( ﯾَ ْﺨ ُﺮ ُج ِﻣ ْﻨﮭُ َﻤﺎ اﻟﻠﱡ ْﺆﻟُ ُﺆ َو ْاﻟ َﻤﺮْ َﺟ21) ﺎن (22) ﺎن ِ َآﻻ ِء َرﺑﱢ ُﻜ َﻤﺎ ﺗُ َﻜ ﱢﺬﺑ He has loosed the two waters, the sweet and the salty; [and so] they meet, in the perception of the eye. Between them there is a barrier, by His power, exalted be He. They do not overstep, neither of the two encroaches upon the other to become mixed with it. So which of your Lord’s favors will you deny? From [both of] them, from the point at which they [seem to] meet — but which is actually from [only] one of the two, and that is, the salt water — is brought forth (yukhraju, passive, may also be read as active, yakhruju, ‘emerge’) the pearl and the coral (marjān, these are red pieces of shell, or small pearls).
