All vehicles must drive on the right side of the road. Speed limits: 50 km/h in towns, 100 km/h on country roads, 130 km/h on motorways. Priority rules: If nothing else is indicated, traffic from the right has priority. Special rules and equipment: All vehicles must carry a warning triangle, first aid kit and at least one warning vest. Traffic lights: red, yellow, green; before green phase ends, green light blinks 4 times, then switches to yellow and red. Drivers are allowed to enter intersection on green and blinking green. Alcohol: Drivers of motor vehicles below 7.500kg are deemed road worthy with less than 50 milliliters of alcohol; for vehicles with more than 7.500kg, with less than 10 milliliters. Motorway fees: for all motorways; 2015: 1-year – EUR 84,40; 2-months – EUR 25,30; 10-days – EUR 8,70; can be bought at border crossings and petrol stations. Additional toll for certain special road sections (e.g. Brennerautobahn or some mountain passes). Petrol available: Normal (Unleaded 91), Super (unleaded 95), Super PLUS (unleaded 98), Ultimate (unleaded 100), Diesel. Some petrol stations close on Sundays Traffic Restrictions: There are currently no general access restrictions for old resp. any types of vehicles to cities etc.; there are speed limits on some motorways in case of smog alarm (IG-L). Parking: no general restrictions; pricing and systems for short parking zones or on-street-parking differ locally

Affiliated to the MG Car Club UK. There have been numerous events such as rallies, regularity and orientation tours, hill climbs and circuit competitions implemented under this umbrella organization over the last 15 years for British classic cars. Based on this experience, the MGCC started with full swing into similar activities. There are about 300 MG cars of various age in the country, primarily after the WW II production years, such as MG TC, MG TD, MGA , MGB / GT, Midgets and few more powerful MGC, V8 and RV8, these having been imported from UK after the 1990.

If no restraint seat can be fitted, the child in the age of 3 years at least, may not sit on the front seat. A child under 3 years may not be transported in a car at all without a restraint seat. The only exception for this are the taxis. All seats used must be approved according to the rule 44/03 of the United Nations European Economic Commission, or according to the EU directive 77/541/EEC, or according to the rules or standards later amended in that directive. Be careful, particularly if drivers in your country are civilized! Do not to drive a car within the city limits: First-time tourists in Athens are advised not to drive a car within the city limits. Better use public transportation or taxis. Traffic Jam: One of the biggest problems you will face when driving in Athens (and the major Greek cities) is traffic jam. Peak hours: In the peak hours, you will see plenty of cars parked illegally or double-parked. It seems that Greeks take the risk to get a ticket or cause damage to their car, while they get off to do a short task. Don’t miss your turn: If you miss your turn, do not expect that you can circle the block and get back where you wanted. Many streets in Greece are one way, so you may need to pass several blocks until you find a legal turn. Huge trucks, lorries and vans: Huge trucks, lorries and vans are allowed to move anywhere at anytime, even in the most popular or narrow streets. Don’t get upset with Greeks attitude: Even if you think that you bother nobody with your driving, people will do get annoyed: if you drive fast, you will be yelled at that you drive like crazy; if you drive slow, you will be yelled at that you block the cars behind! Try not to pay attention or get upset, just go on! Horns oftenly used: When you are in the traffic line, if red goes to green and you don’t leave in the first second, you will hear horns and yellings from behind. Horn in Greece is used in all cases: to prevent an accident but also to greet someone familiar in the street. The noise of horns may drive you crazy sometimes especialy in Athens’ centre. Change lines when nobody is watching you! If you turn on the signal to change lines when driving, the car behind will speed up to get in front of you. Change lines when nobody is watching you! Motocycles and taxis must be avoided: Most of all beware of motorcycles and taxis. Taxi drivers spend half a day driving and have too many nerves, so they lack patience and may result unpredictably. Always wear your seatbelt: Always wear your seatbelt. The accident rate in Greece is the biggest in Europe and extra attention is required. Also there are frequent police blocks, especially in the highways. Parking: Unless you are in the countryside or the forest, be patient when you are looking for a parking seat. Highways: The national highways around Athens are in good state. Usually, the speed rate in the highways is 100-120 km/h. However, some roads in the mountainsides are one-lined, have a lot of windings and pass through villages, so speed limit is much lower. Driver might past you on the right: There are more chances that a Greek driver gets past you on the right (illegally) rather than on the left (legally). 26 28
