RACE TORQUE

O
bviously, we were really disappointed to have to cancel our first race meeting of 2021, at Silverstone National on March 20. We had received a really strong level of entries for the meeting and were looking to have a really great event. Of course, we understand the reasons behind the decision and now watch with interest as the roadmap towards leaving lockdown unfolds. At the time of writing, we have over 100 Competitors already booked in for our Brands Hatch event on April 24-25, despite some uncertainties around overnight stays and general arrangements. Some of our MG ‘family’ are a little concerned about having to travel all the way to Kent without being able to stay and we will do our best to resolve this within the guidelines that are handed down to us. In fact, even one driver from an almost neighbouring county said that he could not race without it! Our guests are also reporting strong entry levels, so a fantastic return to racing beckons. We are very lucky to have an experienced, committed and extremely enthusiastic organising team, which

proved last year that it could rise to the challenge of meeting the restart guidelines. This means that I can very confidently say that we will deliver another COVID-secure event for all our Competitors, Officials and Volunteers. All of our Race Championships will be in attendance, with the exception only of the North-West-based Cockshoot Cup, and we will also be joined by the Triple M racers. There is always a joy in seeing a grid of these cars and you really have to see them ‘in the metal’ to appreciate not
only the sight of them, but the sound and smell too! You may have to wait until they join us again at Donington Park to do so, but watch the MSV website, as a limited number of spectators might be allowed to enjoy the experience in April. Of course, the Cockshoot Cup will be with us just four weeks later, as we head to Oulton Park for a meeting much earlier in the year than of late, on Saturday May 22. As this date falls past another potential milestone in the unlocking process, this may be our opportunity to have a wider audience. As we know more, the news pages of the Motorsport part of the MG Car Club website will be updated and I know that the North West Centre will also be keeping Members apprised of any additional plans. In the meantime, stay safe and well and we really do hope to see some of you soon.
