As I write this, we have just enjoyed our busiest race meeting of the year, with nearly 300 Competitors.
Whilst we had to continue to adhere to COVID-19 regulations, there was a much more relaxed and happier atmosphere in the paddock, even though it was extremely hot.
With temperatures soaring towards 30 degrees Celsius, we must take this opportunity to recognise all of the volunteers without which racing could not happen.
Despite the heat, marshals donned their overalls and officials continued to work. Areas like Assembly, Pit Lane and the Scrutineering bay were absolutely sweltering and yet never a grumble was heard and lots of smiles were in evidence beneath the face masks.
All around the Donington Park track, teams of marshals as well as recovery and rescue teams soaked up the heat and kept our Competitors safe. Whilst saying thank you does not feel enough at times like this, we really do thank you and hope that we will see you all again soon.
We’ll have a full report next month, before the racing heads to Snetterton for our season Finale on the 300 circuit. Many of the Championships remain wide open, especially at Class level and entries are looking strong. All being well spectators will be permitted, although we wait to see whether access to the paddock is allowed.
In the meantime, we will have a presence at both the Interclub Triumph and MG show at Malvern on August 13-15 and the British Motor Show at Farnborough International on August 19-22. At the latter, come and have a chat with us about ways in which you can be involved in motorsport as we share a stand with the Governing Body, Motorsport UK. Whether joining those volunteers talked about here, or looking to start an illustrious, or just fun, racing career, it may be much easier than you think!
