2024 MGGS Art Department presents…

Year 7 students have been looking at the formal elements in Art this year, beginning their Art experience by developing observational drawing skills and adding tone to make their drawingslookrealistic.

They then focused on artist Michael Craig Martin, responding with bold colour work and exploring composition tomakeeverydayitemslookexciting!

Next was a project focusing on giving students a voice to topics that really mattered to them and expressing these views inceramicandprint form.

Year 7 then had the opportunity to develop their photography and collage skills , creating a personal response tothethemeof“food”,inspiredbyIllustratorLaurenChild.

They have concluded their Art journeys this year by looking at photorealistic artist Sarah Graham, developing their colouredpencilskills ,usingsweetsasthesubjectmatter.

Year 8 students had a focus on Art history, specifically focusing on the Art movements: Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, Abstract ExpressionismandPopArt .

Year 9 have spent this year undertaking an extended project entitled “Me, My Selfie and I” , looking at themselves and responding in a personalwaytoavarietyofdifferentartists.

They have spent time understanding the proportions of the face and developingtheirtonalskills.

Through studying the work of artist Adebanji Alade , students were able to capture candid portraits of their friends and family through consideredmarkmaking,usingtheprocessofcarbonpaperprinting .

Injecting some humour into their artwork, year 9 then studied the HanochPiven tocreatetheirownuniqueselfportraits.

Students have finished their KS3 Art education looking at the bright SarahBeetson intheirmixedmediaoutcomes.
