Year 7 students began their Art home learning by finishing off work already started in school. Some pieces were based on everyday objects, inspired by artists Michael Craig Martin and Roy Lichtenstein. This also included the completion of the famous Year 7 Hat Parade homework, where students had to create headpieces based on a given theme. This year, each form group had a different art movement to be inspired by. They were then challenged to “paint without paint” by choosing their favourite painting and recreate it using items found around the house. This then led onto coffee paintings inspired by Stefan Kuhnigk and Hong Yi.

Year 8 students began their school closure work by finishing off “dream containers” that they had begun in school in response to the Art movement of Surrealism. The decoupage containers were based on a collection of dreams and nightmares they recorded during term 3. Their new topic of Pop Art began with expressive, colorful and exciting title pages that were informed by specific research into the movement. They were then set the challenge to recreate a piece of work by a chosen Pop artist onto an empty toilet roll!

Year 9 have spent this year undertaking an extended project entitled “Me, My Selfie and I”, looking at themselves and responding in a personal way to a variety of different artists. Their most recent work has been in response to their current situation. Some of Year 9 were also set a series of photography challenges, looking to further explore and develop their skills as photographers.
