C20th Art headpieces As I am sure you will remember, in Art we hold an annual “Easter Bonnet” inspired headpiece competition at this time of year. This year, I have arranged this year’s parade with our current year 7’s in virtual format. After our recent success, we have decided to continue to split the theme by tutor group. Each group were given a different Art Movement working through the 20th Century Art timeline. We are constantly aiming to improve the themes, so this year you may notice some minor changes.

SURREALISM
After the 1st world war, artists were tired of the depressing reality of the world and looked to their dreams and imaginations for inspiration. They created scenes which messed with the rules of reality. We were looking for designs which showed a creative and imaginative, dream-like quality .

OP ART
Short for ‘Optical Art’, Op Art deals in optical illusions. Usually in black and white, they give the viewer the impression of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibrating patterns or of swelling or warping.
We were looking for designs which incorporated the usual patterns in a unique way.

STREET ART
Street art is a form of artwork that is displayed in public on surrounding buildings, on streets, trains, and on other publicly viewed surfaces. The work has moved from the beginnings of graffiti and vandalism to new modes where artists work to bring messages, or just beauty, to an audience. We were looking for headpieces which mimicked the aesthetic used in Street Art.
