PREPARING AND APPLYING FOR GRADUATION 2025
PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION IN THIS MESSAGE CAREFULLY – AND BE SURE TO SAVE A COPY SO THAT YOU CAN REFER BACK TO IT FOR IMPORTANT DATES/DEADLINES.
Graduation 2025 preparations are currently underway and as part of this planning, you are required to complete our Application for Graduation if you will complete all degree/certificate requirements by the end of Fall 2024, Spring 2025, Summer 2025, or October 2025 (PA students only). You will find the Application for Graduation by logging on to your IONLINE account and under the Main Menu, you will see a “Graduation Overview” tile which will bring you to the application for graduation. But, before you do that, please read all instructions below carefully.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Institute’s annual Commencement Ceremonies we be held live on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Keeping safety in mind at all times, we will continue to monitor all recommendations as put forth by the State, Mass General Brigham, and the Institute, and will inform you of any new information related to large indoor gatherings.
THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING YOUR REQUIRED GRADUATION APPLICATION FOR ALL 2025 GRADUATION CYCLES IS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2024. THIS DEADLINE MUST BE MET IN ORDER FOR YOU TO BE PLACED ONTO ANY GRADUATION LIST FOR 2025. AFTER DECEMBER 6th, LATE APPLICATIONS WILL USE OUR LATE APPLICATION FOR GRADUATION FORM WHICH WILL REQUIRE APPROVAL BY THE REGISTRAR’S OFFICE BEFORE PROCESSING.
After submitting your required Application for Graduation, you are placed onto a “TENTATIVE” graduation list for the “anticipated graduation term” (see below for details) that you choose when applying. You will not be placed onto any “OFFICIAL” graduation list until all degree/certificate requirements have been met, your degree audit has been completed and approved by the Registrar’s Office and your School/Program faculty has reviewed your grades and voted to approve your graduation.
Important note: If you have any issues logging in to your IONLINE account, please contact our IT department by opening a help ticket.
LOGGING INTO IONLINE TO COMPLETE THE APPLICATION PROCESS
1) Login to your IONLINE account using this link: IONLINE Logon. Once there, use your IONLINE credentials to logon.
2) Once you are logged in, look for the “Graduation Overview” tile on your main menu:
3) Once you arrive at the graduation application form, choose “Apply” listed next to your program of study and major:
4) Next, choose an anticipated Graduation Term (Semester that you plan on finishing your program).
• Choose Fall 2024 if you will complete all requirements by the end of the Fall 2024 semester. Your official graduation date will be January 10, 2025. You will receive an electronic copy of your diploma on your official graduation date, and paper diplomas are mailed 2-4 weeks after that date. You would attend the May 2025 ceremony.
• Choose Spring 2025 if you will complete all requirements by the end of the Spring 2025 semester. Your official graduation date will be May 5, 2025. You will receive an electronic copy of your diploma on your official graduation date, and paper diplomas are mailed 2-4 weeks after that date. You would attend the May 2025 ceremony.
• Choose Summer 2025 if you will complete all requirements during or by the end of the Summer 2025 semester. All programs other than PA - your official graduation date will be September 5, 2025. You will receive an electronic copy of your diploma on your official graduation date, and paper diplomas are mailed 2-4 weeks after that date. You would attend the May 2025 ceremony.
• PA Students Choose Summer 2025 and Note: Your official graduation date will be October 17, 2025. You will receive an electronic copy of your diploma on your official graduation date, and paper diplomas are mailed 2-4 weeks after that date. You would attend the May 2025 ceremony.
5) Next, provide us with your full legal name (Preferred Name on Diploma). Be sure to add a period after any middle initial. This is the name that will be read at graduation, will appear on your actual diploma, be displayed on Jumbotrons, and printed in the program booklet. Please DO NOT include prefixes (Ms., Mr. etc…) or credentials. Remove them if they appear. Prefixes and credentials are not printed on diplomas or in program booklets.
6) Next, provide us with your Hometown and State/Province. This will be used to send announcements to hometown newspapers or publications if you wish and will also appear on the jumbotrons at the May Ceremonies when your name is read. E.G. Boston, Massachusetts
7) Next, to indicate that you will attend the May 2025 ceremonies, please make sure that the “I will attend commencement” button is moved to the right. Click this box to move the button to the left (will not attend) if for some reason you do not plan to attend the May 2025 ceremonies. If you are unsure if you will attend, keep this button moved to the right (will attend) as it helps us to plan.
8) Double check your Diploma Mailing Address. This is the address that will be used to mail paper copies of diplomas. Your current preferred address will display. If you want to ship to a different address, click “Ship to a new address”. If you choose this option, you will also have the option of making this your preferred address going forward. Important Note: Diplomas cannot be sent to P.O. Boxes, so be sure to provide residential mailing address that will be valid 2-4 weeks after your official graduation date.
9) Next, tell us the number of guests you plan on bringing. (Maximum of 10 guests will be allowed).
10) Next, if you are U.S. military, let us know your current military status.
11) If you indicate that you will attend the May 2025 ceremonies on Monday, May 5, 2025, You must then order your cap and gown online. You will be sent an email receipt/confirmation once you submit your Graduation Application and, in the message, you will find the link to the cap and gown ordering system. Please order your cap and gown immediately after completing and submitting your application for graduation. The deadline for ordering caps and gowns for the May Commencement Ceremonies is Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
• 2025 graduates should order a cap and gown by Friday, December 27, 2024, by going to this link: http://www.buildagrad.com/mghihp. You will need to create a new user account to order your cap and gown.
(Note - there is no additional charge for your cap and gown or its delivery.)
• You will need your student ID when placing your cap and gown order. Your student ID can be found under "User Options" then "User Profile" on your IONLINE account. It will appear in the upper left corner under your name.
• Caps and gowns are shipped to the address that you provide when placing your order, so be sure to provide an address that will be valid in mid-April of 2025 as this is when delivery will occur.
Once you submit your application, it is considered final. If you need to change something on your submitted application, please contact commencement@mghihp.edu.
REMINDER: There is only one graduation ceremony date each year in May. The ceremonies on that date are for all January, May, September, and October PA graduates. There are no other official graduation ceremonies held.
