ITINERARY HIGHLIGHTS LAHNECK CASTLE: A CLASSIC EXAMPLE OF THE CASTLES OF RHINE ROMANTICISM Lahneck Castle was built in 1244 for the Prince-Bishop of Mainz, one of Germany’s most powerful landowners; however, in 1907, it was bought by the Mischke family and has been privately owned ever since. The castle is a combination of medieval architecture and 19th-century neo-gothic additions. The chapel, the knight's hall and the servants’ kitchen still tell a story about life in a medieval castle, no matter what modifications have been made throughout the centuries. Today, experience the castle’s eerie charms with a candlelight tour.
WERTHEIM: ONCE A ROYAL CAPITAL IN THE MIDDLE AGES Travel back in time to a quintessential romantic town where heartfelt hospitality can be felt everywhere—from the local pretzel maker to resident glassmakers. Once a royal capital in the Middle Ages, Wertheim is home to narrow alleyways, picturesque courtyards and unique half-timbered houses. Iconic sites include the town’s 12th-century castle, one of the most imposing stone castles in Southern Germany and Old Town; and the enchanting “Wertheim Glass Museum,” offering over 3,000 years on the history of glass.
