Spring 2013

An exclusive update for the medical profession from the Middlesex Hospital Alliance (MHA).

Middlesex Hospital Alliance Upgrades to Enhance Cerner Functions Beginning at midnight on Saturday, May 4, the MHA will be upgrading our Cerner patient care software. We anticipate a 6 – 8 hour downtime associated with this upgrade. The downtime will begin at 0001 hours, affecting the night shift of Friday, May 3 into the early morning hours of Saturday, May 4. The upgrade to the most up-to-date version of the Cerner patient care family of applications will provide enhanced functions for the user and be a building block for the Healthcare Undergoing Optimization (HUGO) initiative.

Upgrade benefits There are a number of benefits for end users, including: • Cerner applications will have new high-contrast colour scheme to enhance viewability; • New launch icons for PowerChart, FirstNet and SurgiNet; • New icon for patient search (changing from binoculars to magnifying glass); • Medication Profile functionality will be replaced with newer Medication List functionality; • PowerChart work area is cleaner and has a more modern look; and • Where PowerForm functionality is used, a red asterisk will be used to signal mandatory fields. The planning and testing for the Cerner upgrade has begun and more detailed information on the preparation required will be provided as we get ready for this event.
