MIDWEST HOUSING EQUITY GROUP INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Midwest Housing Equity Group, Inc. (MHEG) was created in 1993 with the objective to raise equity capital to invest into affordable rental housing throughout Nebraska through use of the federal low-income housing tax credit program (LIHTC) as defined in Section 42 of the Internal Revenue Code. MHEG expanded its operations into Kansas in 2000, followed by Iowa in 2001 and Oklahoma in 2005. MHEG’s most recent expansion occurred in 2013, when it expanded into Arkansas, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota and Texas. Now 25 years later, MHEG has become a successful and experienced tax credit syndicator. MHEG provides technical assistance to developers, owners and managers on the development and management of tax credit properties; as well as asset management to monitor and mitigate risk of the properties for the 15- y e a r compliance period. To date, we have raised over $1.9 billion in equity and partnered in the development of 550+ properties, creating over 17,000 affordable housing units. By offering an internship we hope to continue to meet our mission and objective of creating affordable housing by developing awareness, introducing and educating our interns to the world of affordable housing. We hope by the end of our program; our interns will have a better understanding of why affordable housing is so important and how the LIHTC program works. Some of MHEG’s interns have been successful in securing permanent employment in the affordable housing industry. Position: Asset Management Intern Interns will observe and work alongside the asset management and financial reporting departments to learn specific functions of MHEG’s operations. List of possible duties to include:           

Assist with tracking reserve levels by gathering statements and inputting into database. Assist the CFO with annual audit of lower/upper tier investments. Assist with the preparation of quarterly investor reports. Assist with obtaining, reviewing and inputting annual operating budgets of portfolio. Assist Asset Manager with inputting (Excel) and analyzing (i.e.; budget comparison and watch list criteria) monthly financial reports of real estate portfolio. Assist with the tracking of compliance with insurance and real estate taxes. Provide assistance with data input on data base regarding relevant fund and property information on quarterly basis to expedite investor reporting. Gather information as needed on investor requests Financial analysis of current performance vs. underwriting Reviewing, scanning and filing documents Other special projects as assigned.

Requirements: Must have knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel and Word, experience with Microsoft Outlook would be beneficial, high level of attention to detail and accuracy and strong organizational skills. Required course work or level of education / GPA: Junior or Senior status with a focus in Database Management, Data Analysis, Statistics, Computer Science, Advanced Excel, Business, or Economics, minimum of 3.0 GPA Availability: Internship available year-round, up to 38 hours per week in the summer and up to 20 hours per week in the fall/spring Procedure for submitting application: please return the following application along with your resume to kmcaleer@mheginc.com
