5 FRUITS & VEG FOR A FLAT STOMACH By Kim Wheeler
S
o we have the dreaded time of the month (yes, guys, you probably have them too!) When our tums just aren’t right. They are bloated and round and just plain uncomfortable. So what can we do to ease this? Try these fruits and vegetables to reset that belly and aid that shrinkage. Please note that adding in additional fruits/vegetables into your diet is encouraged but do it slowly – by introducing these when your body is not used to it can actually lead to bloating, so just start by adding a portion here or there and build up slowly!

Carrots – This little powerhouse vegetable is fast becoming my favourite staple! Eat it raw, juice it, steam it, roast it and enjoy it! In this instance of keeping a flat stomach, cooking it actually helps the body break it down. Containing fat soluble compounds known as carotenoids that are linked to preventing cancer, beta-carotene which is absorbed in the intestine and converted into vitamin A during digestion, Vitamin C, Potassium, Folate, Manganese, Vitamin E, Zinc and Fibre to aid digestion and keep it ticking over as it should. What’s not to love! Plus the calorie content is super low, so you can eat as many as you want… if you don’t mind turning a little orange from the carrot overload! (Actually known as Hypercarotenemia, is totally harmless but is just an overload of carotenoids!). Blueberries – Full of antioxidants, delicious on their own or blended in a smoothie, contains catechins that activate fat-burning genes in the abdominal fat cells which assist with weight loss. These super fruits also contain Vitamins C, E, Riboflavin, Niacin, and Folate. Spinach – Great vegetable – you can steam, fry, or have it raw – even pop a handful in your next smoothie, you might see it but you won’t taste it and will reap the benefits of iron (which helps support your red blood cells transport oxygen around the body), Vitamin A, vitamin C and folic acid as well as being a good source of manganese, magnesium, and vitamin B2. It also contains Vitamin K which is excellent for bone health. Apples – deliciously juicy and crunchy – eaten as a filling snack, apples contain quercetin, a compound shown to help fight certain cancers, reduce cholesterol damage, and promote healthy lungs. They have a high water content so keep you full with little calories, and the water helps flush out toxins to flatten that stomach. Tomatoes – is it a vegetable, is it a fruit? (It’s a fruit, but you know what I mean!) These little red bombs contain lycopene which help protect the skin from UV rays and have been known to help prevent cancer (particularly prostate cancer). Eating them cooked actually raises the lycopene and antioxidants, but decreases the Vitamin C. So good to ensure you are getting a varied diet with lots of Vitamin C coming from other sources. Tomatoes also contain a high water content, which will aid in digestion. Other reasons you could be feeling bloated…. • Eating too fast • Not chewing your food properly • Taking in air when you drink from a glass (If you slurp you will be swallowing air!)

So ensure you eat foods that do not cause a bloating reaction, drink plenty of still water (without slurping from the glass) and eat mindfully. Think about each mouthful, chew carefully. Introduce them slowly and try to change your habits slowly to allow the body to adjust.

TRUMPERY? On dealing with the museum of our memories
E
very now and then, I find myself travelling to my tranquil little University town, which also happens to be the place I grew up in. It’s a beautiful little place, I enjoy showing it to foreign guests or visitors, and sometimes my studies demand that I spend time within its venerable University halls and well-stocked libraries. Now, visiting this place of my physical roots is always a strange experience, especially in the summer. Mainly at that time of the year, every fibre of my
being seems intertwined with the town: My feet remember the round, cobblestones, dozing in the sunlight like old familiar friends, greeting my sandalled toes with the warmth they have stored

throughout the sunny day. Benign acquaintances of old, polished by thousands of feet over the centuries. My nose picks up on the scents from my favourite pizza place – causing my mind to instantly be propelled back to countless summer nights spent sitting on the crooked wooden chairs in front of the building, the deliciousness of a fresh stone oven pizza spreading over the edges of the huge plate before me… the laughter of beloved College friends ringing in my ears as we take all the time in the world with our meal and wine. On every corner, I expect to see old friends and acquaintances, people I used to spend my life with, people who used to mean everything, to pop up out of nowhere - even though I know that most of them have already moved away and lead totally different lives now. They do not exist the way I remember them anymore. Just like this old ‘me’ is a ghost. Forever transformed, nonexistent. But my heart remembers everything: Every pair of sparkling eyes gazed into, all the fights, the meaningful talks, the dizzy, giggling walks home from a night of dancing… Love stories, heartaches, failures and successes seem to be written into the paving stones, engraved into the lamp posts, waving like strings of prayer flags or fresh laundry in the narrow paths between the medieval little houses.
Do I enjoy this? Well, only partly. As the spiritual being I AM, my focus is aimed at the Here and Now. I strive to live and observe without judgement or attachment, and to give myself up completely to whatever comes drifting my way in the flow of life. This, of course, means that every moment is fresh, that life creates itself anew at the blink of the beholder’s eye: There is NOTHING apart from the Here and Now. In the museum of my memory, where I keep the records of this human life, this isn’t possible. Like valuables in a museum or gallery, exquisite pieces are stored on tassled velvet cushions. Labelled or framed in gold. Treasures like first kisses. Or that one winter when our river was frozen solid and hundreds of people took a stroll on its surface, enjoying the new perspectives. Barbecues during boat rides, right there on the longboats typical for this town. How I like to think of its inhabitants as ‘river people’ – because most of my summers growing up were spent on boats, drifting along the friendly stream that snuggles up to the medieval town center... Sitting around candles in the middle of the marketplace, chatting away the night while autumn is already nipping at our noses and ears in the crisp September air...
Are they really valuables? I try to push them aside when I stroll through my home town. They cloud my vision. Nostalgia taints my perception and tempts me to ache for days gone by. Like some bully, it tugs at my sleeve and trips me, towers over me to whisper into my ear how HAPPY I was back then… even though it’s irrelevant! It doesn’t even matter one single bit! Because I AM happy now. I AM happy in a much more real way. Life is a magnificent tempest, and we are all right in there, riding the storm. We bruise. Tear. Tatter. Transform. And we heal, too, at best gently embracing our scars. We become ever so much more real in the process. And I wouldn’t trade it in for any day gone by. Plus, isn’t it ironic that all this splendour, the museum of our memories, the archive and treasury of our personal human minds which most of us devote so much love and care to, is so incredibly fragile? It takes but one accident, one unfortunate, careless move or an illness like dementia or Alzheimer’s disease to smash the exhibits to bits and leave the whole museum a ghost town, a ruin where cold winds rage through the empty rooms, stirring and scattering the dust… I do not wish to imply that memory is worthless. I AM simply trying to state that it is as impermanent as anything else. One treasure, the most valuable one of all, may well be permanent, however. Whenever we truly love another – and it can be a human, an animal, anything, really – we are transformed on base soul level. This soul journey of ours might be compared to an intricate quilt in eternal progress … and LOVE is what embroiders us with new silken layers, gets sewn and woven into our Divine fabric. I AM pretty sure that the Beatles are right in singing: “in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make”. The sooner we make peace with this truth, the sooner we can embrace awareness, peace and acceptance as our companions. And they make good ones. he earth has given us natural products to aid healing and well-being since the dawn of time and crystals are by no means an exception!
Crystals have long since mesmerised and fascinated the human race. For thousands of years they have been used for healing and protection by the Egyptians, Chinese, Tibetan Buddhists, Incas, Native Americans to name but a few. They have been found in many Egyptian tombs on headdresses, masks and in amulets. It is said that the in Japanese culture they regard a quartz sphere as the heart of a dragon because a dragon symbolises power and wisdom. Heroic men of the past were believed to have worn an Emerald or Lapis during battles to aid them in victory. There are also ancient written texts, believed to be that of Hinduism, describing the power of crystals for use in healing. Even the bible, both Old and New Testaments, have written accounts regarding the use of crystals. Today crystals are not only used for healing but many other things, including technology! Quartz crystal is used in computers, radio transmitters, and they are part of the mechanism that keeps time within watches. Liquid crystal is used for television screens and monitors.
Adorned on crowns and jewellery Crystals such as, Diamonds, Sapphires, Amethysts, Emeralds and Rubies are cut into smooth gemstones and set into silver and gold to make jewellery. Many crystals are formed in crevices deep within our sacred mother earth and hold much of her power. Some crystals take thousands of years to form, while others can process a lot quicker. Halite (salt crystals) develop at such a fast rate that you can watch them grow! Each crystal has a chemical make-up, its own DNA imprint. Whether you have a large or small specimen it will have the same DNA structure that indicates which type of minerals have gone into creating that particular crystal. (I am no scientist!!! So for a more scientific account I’m sure the internet will satisfy your needs, this is just how I see it in a simple non-complex way). Each type of crystal holds within it a unique vibrational frequency as does the cells within our own body. Tuning these frequencies together allows a non-invasive procedure that creates

balance and harmony on so many levels. When it comes to the ‘properties’ held within a crystal for example calming, protecting, healing, it is only hearsay and believed to be the case. Nothing is set in ‘stone’ (excuse the pun)! Therefore like any type of alternative therapy they may not work for everyone, you just have to give them a try. But it’s no good just purchasing one and expecting it to work miracles. Crystals have to be handled with respect and love, cleansed and energised then you need to give the frequencies a chance to connect to yours so the true magic can begin!! t is hard to argue against the statement that almost the whole of humanity has benefited in some way from the incredible advancement that technology has brought to our lives. Whilst, like everything in life, it has its flip side (and these are detailed daily it seems in the media) surely the benefits outweigh the negatives. This is true in one of the few growth industries that has happened since its inception in the 1990’s – telephone psychics. This line of work and facility came into being because of the introduction of new advances in technology that enabled the operation of sophisticated telephony systems. So it was that it became possible for a psychic to work from their own home, by means of ‘logging on’ to a companies’ system, which would then route calls to their own telephone line. The reader is connected to the customer, both from their
armchair, or nowadays, their mobile wherever they may be. Whilst this has since developed in ever more enticing ways, this was not the case when it began. Then it was more common for anyone willing to do so to be handed a pack of Tarot by their employer, a book to explain the cards and told to keep callers on the line for as long as

possible. With the introduction of regulations and a governing body that exists to protect both consumer and professional, these situations have thankfully all but disappeared. However, standards, as well as prices, (both for caller and reader) vary greatly. I was fortunate to find myself working as Reader Manager for the biggest telephone psychic line in the UK for 12 years, my remit being to test readers who applied and to work at raising the standard overall, so consumers were able to receive the best service possible and readers were likewise enabled to give of their best. This meant the business made more money, the readers earned more and the callers got what they needed, so everybody won - including me since I was able to earn a living! The move to becoming a telephone psychic, and more importantly, the best one can possible be, can take some getting used to, to put it mildly. Even if one is an established psychic, whether using Tarot, Angels, Crystals, Mediumship etc. with many years of experience and an established roster of clients, it can be quite a different kettle of fish giving readings in what is often a 20 minute maximum timeframe. I recall one such reader, who was very well known in his field being simply unable to give any kind of reading because it was by telephone, despite his very well established and justifiable credentials in the psychic world. It’s not for everyone. Aside from the amount a reader earns as a telephone psychic – which is well below what we can earn from a private reading (although there are no costs involved for us, so it balances out - kind of!) there are many differences to learn and adapt to. Chief among these is that callers can and do make a momentary decision to ‘get a reading’ and its instant. This is opposed to finding a reader local to them, booking and then making the journey to attend. A consequence of this is that they present with all manner of different attitudes and responses that can make it extremely difficult for the reader to help them and give of their best. This is not the callers’ fault but there can be much to learn to negotiate these kind of obstacles – and a great deal more besides. The telephone psychic industry is now a worldwide and established means for a huge number of psychics to earn at least a part of their income. For me, it is of paramount importance that it is done in the best way possible, to the highest standards ethically,
morally and professionally, from everyone’s point of view. It is to this end that I have now written my book ‘How To Be A Telephone Psychic’, which acts as a guidebook through the minefield of this business. The book is written from the insider’s point of view and tells you all you need to know to establish yourself as a successful and professional telephone psychic working to the highest standards. It is my hope that this helps everyone get a good and positive experience with their chosen psychic as we further embrace the technology that means we can now do readings not just by telephone but instant chat, and somewhat scarily, webcam. THE LUCY EXPERIENCE By Lucy Isabella
T
here is always a worry about going to visit my doctor, not a rational worry, or something that I can pin point it down too, I just don’t like them. They set off my anxiety and never truly seem to help. Back in late 2011 I had visited my doctor (as my mum had asked) and had to tell him how I was feeling, this, took a lot of courage: I felt sick constantly, headaches, physical pains without explanations, I couldn’t concentrate at college, I didn’t want to see my friends, I hated everyone including myself, but worst of all, I had started hurting myself. I tried to tell my doctor everything, and being an old doctor I’m pretty sure he was never taught about mental health problems in his pre-historic doctoral lectures! His ‘cure’ was to take two weeks off, stay in bed and then come back; he’d basically diagnosed me of being a lazy teenager. Immediately mum helped me transfer to the other doctor there, one much younger and much more helpful, with this doctor I could show him my cuts, I could tell him what had happened, because what happened to me was so much
more than being ‘just a lazy teenager’. From the age of ten my biological father abused me, physically, emotionally and psychologically, up until the age of sixteen where, after the final attack, I had the guts to run away and tell someone. With this I had lost my family, they took his side, leaving me feeling like a liar even though I can remember his attacks, even though they affect me on a daily basis. Telling my doctor was the first part of recovery, the second was a lot of counselling, after telling my doctor and giving me names of places to get help (as I was under 18 I couldn’t be seen by most professionals) but all the places kept getting my hopes up and rejecting me. In the end my mum paid out a lot of money for a private counsellor to run alongside my college counsellor. No matter how amazing my private counsellor was I was still struggling, I

couldn’t cope with anything as I was struggling my way through college on a nursing course. This is when, for not the first time in my life, I had tried to kill myself. As my mum saw the note she took me immediately to accident and emergency, where I was seen by an adolescent psychiatrist who had diagnosed me with severe depression and anxiety, after many sessions of listening to what had happened to me, that I was hurting myself a lot, and mine and my mum’s relationship was falling apart, he placed me on a university study that offered ‘family counselling’ for children who self-harm, with this lengthy process I slowly started to stop hurting myself because I could shout and cry it out with the counsellor, I could tell mum how I felt and we started to understand each other, after all the counselling session were met, the students who created the study checked up on us every couple of months, then every six months, just to make sure I wasn’t self harming. I carried on seeing my college counsellor as doing my college work was still a struggle, I had no concentration and I couldn’t ask for help. But after leaving college I felt lost, I was too unwell to go to university to become a nurse which is why I took a ‘gap year’ to find a job. A month after leaving college I was offered a health care assistant job but due to not having all my hepatitis B vaccinations it held me back from getting it. Without routine I slowly started sinking back into depression, I comfort ate and then starved myself, I was constantly in a bad mood and didn’t want to do anything nice. After a year and a half I finally went to the doctors again, a new doctor, who put me immediately on to see a therapist (who I am currently with) and is helping me feel better about myself, he also diagnosed me with PTSD (Post-traumatic Stress Disorder) which is why I always get flashbacks of abuse. But working with him is helping me cope, I have got into university and will be studying to become a mental health nurse, my recovery is going O.K. and I’m feeling kind of how a normal young girl should feel about herself!

THE GIFT OF ANIMALS IN OUR LIVES

M
ost people have heard the saying, “dogs are man’s best friend.” Cats are known as being aloof and elephants never forget. Animal stereotypes have been around for what seems like forever but have you ever stopped to think about how these creatures became known for the specific traits they are attributed with having? Why aren’t cats man’s best friend and why is it elephants, and not birds, that never forget? Everything is consciousness; everything is energy. Everything is vibration. Most of us our comfortable and familiar with this understanding and even if we don’t fully grasp it, we can at the very least accept it as science has confirmed this. What we may be not so familiar with is the importance of animals, in terms of their energetic presence and purpose in our life both on a personal level, in the case of a pet dog, cat, fish, turtle, hamster, guinea pig, bird, etc., and on a collective level, in the case of non-domestic animals like those living in the wild such as lions, panthers, giraffes, alligators, whales, dolphins, of course elephants, etc. The list goes on and on. And we certainly can’t forget the animals we eat such as cows, chickens, pigs, deer, lamb, etc. for they, too, play an enormous role in the consciousness of our planet as well as to the human race, in particular.
Though this is not so well practiced now, honouring animals vibrational presence was very much a way of life in more ancient cultures. It is here, through the passing down of this wisdom, that we, in our fast-paced, quick-fix society, have reduced their energy into oneliners that serve as a source of humour (ie she has a bee in her bonnet) or act as a quick point of reference to a situation that puts everyone on the same page in an instant (ie the elephant in the room).
Back to “man’s best friend.” Dogs have a consciousness coding that is grounding to the earth. This grounding energy is perceived by humans as having a loyal nature. Their behaviour as pack animals extends the idea that dogs would be wonderful as part of a human family as well. Again, this is not to say they are better than humans (and they would be the first to tell us they are not). They just have a more expanded understanding of this reality. They see the world through a wider lens. If we were to silence ourself and go within, we would all be able to feel and recognize the Essence of animals. This is an ability that is innate to each and every one of us, no exceptions. If we took the time to do this, we would soon come to realize how powerful an animal’s consciousness coding truly is. As you open up to this, let them tell you what they are here to show you about you. Feel their Presence. Such begins a magical, mysterious world into discovering things about yourself and the world around you that you never dreamed were possible. May your magical, mystery tour be filled with wonder and enchantment as you soar to new heights in expanding your consciousness to include all of life.

Are you truly happy?
A
re you interested in making other peoples lives better or just helping yourself? One way to be happy is to stop thinking about you and think of other peoples happiness, the main cause of depression isn’t the event which pushed you into it, it was you thinking about you. This isn’t meant to be an inflammatory statement, it is an emotionless fact, the thing with Depression is you can only think of yourself and how terrible you are feeling, and it is a horrible place to be, so get caring about someone or something else as quickly as possible. Next you have to reinforce your happiness every morning, you could do this via a death awareness meditation... Why would you do this? You do this to create Detachment... You will lose everything at death, even your persona, you cannot hold onto anything and you are going to die so use it to your advantage and start to live. Ease up on your death grip on all the things we think we own. You can only take one thing with you when
you die, your spiritual energy and momentum. So if you believe in rebirth or life after death or your spirit living on you have to create the life now for your next one. You could think of this whole life as practice for the next phase of your spiritual journey, so Get going on living a good life, stop owning people, objects and possessions in the way you think you do... Because you will lose them all in one way or another or lose them by getting just plain sick of it.

Getting happiness Think of all your mental afflictions as burning coals and you are holding onto this pain for what reason? - You have to Let go, you may have never tried to let go. I know it’s comfortable to suffer or it may be who you think you are or what you think defines you and makes you different. You have to let go of all of this to get happy!
Letting go of plans for they are attachments to pain So 5 years ago could you imagine that your life was accurately like this now? Every detail as it is? So why should your future be any different? You have to let go of that burning coal also and stop worrying about things in the future and create the happiness you want right now and every now afterwards by being happy and letting go of your mental afflictions or every single negative mindset you have. Happiness is freedom from all the chains, hot coals or mental afflictions that are holding us down or burning away at us. Be free, start acting free. And if you are free why should you be holding back your wife, husband, partner or kids? Set them free of your chains also and support them in being happy. Every pain is mentally linked back to an attachment that you are holding onto. If you want to you can trace back to the attachment from the pain, follow where the pain leads and at the end you will find the pain or the burning coal that is the pain. So the next question is can you let it go? You have to learn to let go of the burning coals if you want freedom and happiness. The paradoxical thing about it is that you are grasping onto things that are un-graspable in the first place! You are holding onto a thing that is burning and harming you but it doesn’t exist, its a hallucination, the only thing you are holding onto is suffering, you keep it there in your mind because it is yours! “It’s My Pain, My Suffering, My Lack of Belief, My Issue with Me” Let it go, if you want to be free let the coals go, trace back from the pain and see what attachment you are holding onto then consciously let it go.

Here is the biggest thing we are holding onto, Our identity, most of us are holding onto an identity of A limited, unhappy, anxious or pained identity, in order to let your identity go you have to die to your old suffering self to be reborn, let the idea of a limited suffering you who could not be happy go. Be empty, the idea of who I was I am letting go, I was attached to an idea of who I was now I am attaching myself to a happy, positive better me. It is no more tangible that the old you but so much more useful than the old one. Start re-identifying yourself - You are not your job, you are not your relationships, the main thing you should be is a happy person - Practice happiness. So if you want to be free why should you put anyone else in chains? You want freedom and happiness for you, don’t put anyone else in chains, let them be free, if you love them set them free of your chains. By setting the special somebody in your life free that will encourage them to be happier and you will be happier, encourage the one you love to be the best they can be. What are those chains? My money, My Husband, My Wife, My Plans, My Job, My Possessive Persona etc You have to let them go mentally. There is a joke that has been told through the ages, it goes like this, “If you want to make God laugh, make a plan” All the plans you hold onto are pained attachments, create Goals in life, not the end goal, make them a means to an end. A little while ago I was told I was deluded for being happy, for living in a world that I created where I believed in myself completely. The person was so upset that I was living this delusional happiness, he wanted me to give it all up and live in the crappy, anxiety riddled, unhappy realm of the masses. I have been there and I choose my world every time. Why was he so angry, it was a direct threat to his egoic world - misery loves company! So here is the thing, anyone who isn’t in happiness yet can get there, ask yourself what are you practicing being, are you practicing being that limited person? the one who thinks they can’t do this thing, or I am unhappy, anxious, stressed. If this is you well done, you have proved that what you created in your mind comes to fruition - You got what you practiced, so start practicing the other way, start practicing happiness, confidence and you will get this instead. The only problem is people want it right now, you have to practice being good at things before you are expert at them. Does it require hard work? Yes and you will get it wrong along the way, but keep going, get back on the wagon if you fall and keep practicing, if you give up, you will be back where you were. Keep going and you will eventually create the habit of happiness, confidence and a limitless you. 21

elf love is the new relationship status for the spiritually minded. Commitment to a daily practice of cherishing oneself sounds selfish and egotistical. In fact it is the very opposite. Self love is a philosophy which embraces self value, where an individual realises their divine right to be happy. It encourages us to think positive thoughts about our own lives, to create affirmations to support visualisations of a happier, healthier life; and teaches us that the universe is responding to our own treatment of ourselves. Many can relate to the idea of overcoming a negative mind set and habits of behaviour. We are made aware of how our society can promote negative self image resulting in low self esteem. We understand that we judge ourselves harshly and create our own blocks to happiness through lack of confidence, anxiety, fear and
poor self belief. Self love is about facing these blocks. We accept we are human and have limits. We know we are here to learn. We accept responsibility for our own lives and we take back the power that we were given at birth. We learn that it is our divine right to be happy and loved.

The law of attraction makes us aware of how we create our own outward world as a reflection of our individual inner world. Within this theory people come into our lives to mirror to us what we need to learn. Once we learn to master our inner selves we will have the power to create the outward world that we really desire. Self love techniques certainly can benefit individuals in their search for feeling happier. Focussing on the positive naturally attracts us to see more positives around us. Practicing gratitude for all that we have that is good is a great way to begin this process. Seeing the glass as half full is always a better option than seeing the glass as half empty. Positive thinking supports positive emotions. Living in a positive emotional state creates happiness. Feeling happy leads to long term well being and a positive outlook for the future.
Correct your inner voice. Make sure you don`t criticise or judge yourself. Tell yourself the positive messages you deserve to hear.

Demand respect. Do not allow yourself to be in situations where you are not treated with respect.

Surround yourself with people that make you happy. Laugh and be happy with friends, be loving and caring with family.

Many of us feel frustrated and let down by the world around us. We feel victimised or lost. We begin to believe that outside factors will make us happy and we focus our attention on what we are missing We feel incomplete and begin to crave people, possessions or experiences that seem beyond our reach. The emotional effects of such a mind set can be devastating, causing us to spiral down into a fear based existence. We become unhappy with life, despondent of our prospects and suffer poor mental and physical health. Realistically, who would choose such an existence in comparison? I definitely recommend you take the journey of self love. No matter what your experiences of life so far, or your current situation; self love encourages you to be in control of your own mind, your own emotions and your own destiny. Practical techniques to work towards self love include:

Use affirmations e.g “I am lovable” “I care for myself in loving ways”

Keep positive images around you. Human brains are receptive to visuals. e.g pictures of people smiling, holiday destinations etc
Write a positive diary. Jot down positive events of the day e.g Had a phone call from ..., cut down on sugar,

Make `Me Time`. Do things just for you. Begin to enjoy your own company. Put your needs first.
Practice gratitude. Be grateful for all that you have that you value,no matter how small.

ore than a decade ago I enjoyed the challenge of writing stories around a subject someone would give me. It was fun, light hearted, and the stories allowed my imagination to grow as it did when I was a child. This piece is not about stories and adventures I would take myself on. I was recently challenged to write a piece stating my views on how to balance out the positive and negative in your life. This article represents my thoughts and how I see life around me, along with my ongoing search to find inner strength. How to recognize the negative in your life, and part of our daily life and sadly it shows around the balance it with positive reinforcements. world. That is a good question, and difficult to answer because everybody has different views regarding the positive and negative influences in their lives. Negative influences have ruled a better part of our lives. Starting before we were old enough to understand words, we were hearing things like; “no”, “don’t touch that”, “you can’t do that”, “you are not old enough”, “you’re not very bright are you”, “Don’t be stupid”, etc. etc. Negativity has always been with us and we have grown up to accept it as
It would be great if we could have a balance of 50% positive and 50% negative. Better yet would be 75% positive and 25% negative… after all we need some negativity in the world to balance things out. Unfortunately in our modern times negativity is winning the war. Our world and most everyone on it seems to be at odds; races against races, religions against religions, politicians against politicians. As well as; job shortages, money shortages, food shortages, healthcare shortages or none at all, along

with the high cost of living, drug wars and drug usage. If you can’t see the abundance of negativity in these samples, take a look at how man is guilty of the environmental destruction of our planet and for what? What are we actually doing to ourselves? We are destroying each other and everything that is beautiful about our world. Everywhere you turn the planet is feeding from negativity and if we do not change it soon, it will be too late. I do not wish to sound negative, I merely want to get my point across. If you do not believe what I am saying… test it for yourself. Spend one day being alert and notice all that is negative surrounding you. Listen to your co-workers, your family, and your neighbours, or whoever it is you spend your day with. Watch the news, or listen to the radio.

Start to look at the natural beauty that surrounds us each and every day and give it a moment of your love. • Sit back for 5 minutes a day and tell yourself what you are thankful for. Better yet, write a list of everything in your life that you are thankful for and read it daily. • Listen to some music, “really listen to it” feel the music and the joy it gives you. • Do you often get caught in traffic jams going to and coming from work? Instead of looking at it as an inconvenience, think of it as some quiet time for yourself. Allow yourself to enjoy the moments alone or with friends if you have passengers and think or talk about some upbeat and positive subjects.
Was I wrong? Was your day filled with all love, glee and joy? If so than you are lucky or living As a planet filled with individual minds positive in a bubble and you should stop reading this thoughts will eventually give us positive changes, immediately since your life is filled with positivity as long as we continue to believe and never give up. and I do not wish to change that. As for the rest of us, it will help to add some more positivity to our life. There are many ways to feel and be positive even on a small scale that will amaze you in a matter of days. I believe the human spirit is strong and that we can do anything we set our minds to. Below are a few samples of how I work to keep my balance… add them to your daily life, or find something that works for you. You will feel better and more positive. It may not change the world, but the more people work to change the positive in their life, the more we will tip the scales forward to balance. • Be kind to yourself, look at the good in you and take pride in all of it. Do not degrade yourself or call yourself names. • Find a few good affirmations that will suit your life, or write your own… repeat them every day as often as you wish; example: “ I am healthy and happy in my life, and today I choose to share that happiness by being kind to a stranger”. • Look around you and pick out something that you find beautiful. It could be a flower, a rock, a tree, a bird, a sunrise or a sunset. Anything at all that you find beautiful… now focus on it, see its beauty and gentleness, feel its energy 23

ou can use Self-hypnosis to program your subconscious mind with one or more suggestions that will help bring about a habit change much more easily than if working with just the conscious mind. When using self-hypnosis you will not be asleep but in an altered state of consciousness whereby you will be more aware of what is happening around you, but your concentration will be focused on one specific thing. During this process the altered state of consciousness is called a “Theta� brain wave state, the idea is that you have a direct communication link between the conscious and subconscious minds, this allows you to plant useful suggestions directly into the subconscious. Self-hypnosis takes practice, and if you want to really get the benefits of hypnosis you have to practice daily,
If you miss out a few days in a row you will find yourself right back at the beginning, essentially you are creating a habit of relaxation and mind control. The following 30 day program will assist you in developing the skills to enter the hypnotic state, give yourself suggestions and bring yourself back out. ave you ever wondered what impact your thoughts have on your health? Apparently we have 60,000 thoughts a day – a mix of both conscious and sub conscious thoughts. The normal protocol when you have a pain or illness is to either rest, pop a pill or go to your doctor/hospital, but what if there was another way to sort out your health concerns? In the UK, only some complementary therapies are accepted within the NHS, as there is the need to ensure that there is evidence based research proving whether they work or not. Strange really, as all therapists have to be fully trained and insured to practice and individuals can choose to pay to see a private therapist. So there is freedom of choice anyway. The approach within the NHS is very logical and prescriptive and does not look at the person holistically and this logical approach can seem very cold to some individuals, especially those who are naturally spiritual.
I was just frustrated that nothing was working. I was miserable. I felt I could not tell doctors how I was feeling and was very sensitive to what they said. I suffered from anxiety and depression on top of the pain.
I had been working quite happily until 1996 as a Catering Manager at Heathrow Airport. On Christmas eve, circumstances changed. I had an accident, whilst throwing rubbish into a compactor. That accident changed my life. On the surface, it was no big accident, but it lead to me having 2 years off work. We can BE OUR OWN GOVERNORS. Sovereign Individuals in sovereign homes, in sovereign communities, in sovereign nations, in a sovereign world. Human Beings who are responsible to be their own AUTHORITY. We police ourselves. We heal ourselves. Sharing & caring will dissipate the crime. If we wish to stop crime & end violence we must trust & give. Be ye servants of LOVE. This is the Only Job you have while visiting this planet. Serve Love in ALL you do. You will glean wisdom from books, but you do not NEED or require a book. We need to be allowed to be guided
from the inside. We don’t need religion to experience god. We would benefit more from having our own religious experience. God is too big to fit into one religion where one is right & all others are wrong. Have we not outgrown this silly separatism? Do not Saints come from all races & creeds? Let go of what we think we know so we can have space to learn. Open, open, open. The more we agree to let one another be, so long as we harm none, the happier we can be. We don’t need to convert people so our religion, our separatism has more power, more control, more sway & can dominate & rule the world. There is a separation of church & state? The church IS the state! We don’t need a one world religion or a new world order. We need to co-exist in Peace & Freedom. We are already one. We WON! Yes, -REVELATIONS- are happening but it is not the same Revelations in the Bible or other (divine writ) books. That Revelation was someone else’s Revelation. We may have our own! We do not have to live in FEAR of the way it will all end! We do not have to manifest that prophecy. WE CAN ~CHANGE~ When we change our minds, we change our reality! Imagine that. Imagine.... that. Obama said it, WE The People make it happen!

Music Matters SUPPORTING ARTISTS, SUPPORTING CHARITY

ere at Mi Magazine we love to hear about charity work and people’s passions! So we were so excited to hear about Jennifer Streeting - an up and coming musician, singer/songwriter from London, England. She has a deep rooted passion for music and a soul for helping others. She supports two charities close to her heart and will generously be donating the proceeds* from the sale of her new EP ‘Gaze’ between these two charities.

JEN: THE LOWDOWN... We asked Jen to give us a background of how she got into music and why she was so keen to support these particular charities.... I have always had a passion for music and so joined the choir form at school when I was 12. The choir master/form tutor was pretty strict about the choir, it was his big passion and so I found myself singing 4 evenings out of 5 each week from the age of 12 to the age of 15. We would perform concerts at the school but also at various churches and cathedrals, my favourite being Winchester Cathedral. After I finished school I found I missed singing so joined various singing groups and courses such as Vox Box and Ciy lit and collaborated with other musicians and bands, eventually I became interested in the idea of writing and recording my own music. I recently created my EP ‘Gaze’ and came up with the idea of trying to raise as much money as possible for two charities - Alzheimer’s Research and SCWA (Stop Child Witch Accusation). SCWA was my first choice because about 5 years ago I came across a Dispatches documentary called Saving Africa’s Witch Children. I was so deeply affected by the fact that a 5 year old girl was turned away from her family, friends and community having been accused of being a witch by a local church leader. Some of the scenes in this film are very disturbing and have stuck with me ever since, so I always thought if I were ever to do something for charity that would be one of my first choices. Unbelievably, I recently read that this behaviour was also happening in the UK!! This documentary can be found here. I chose Alzheimer’s Research as the thought of this disease has always scared me and I feel for the people who are affected by it and their families.
