Unit 78- Developing and Realising Fine Art Ideas Unit 2- Materials, Techniques and Processes in Art and Design

Themes A more general theme to my work is Fashion, but the main themes are more like ‘Natural Beauty’ and ‘Self Expression’. The first part to this unit wasn’t really controlled by my preferences so doesn’t relate to these themes yet. But the rest of my work I feel is to do with self expression because my photo shoot was based around the models doing what they wanted and what felt comfortable to them. I wanted my work to feel natural and with people just expressing themselves in a way they want I feel that that achieves that very well. Also, ‘Natural Beauty’ because I feel that every part of Fashion is beautiful but so is everyone else. I wanted this to be a theme within my work so show that anyone and anything makes fashion beautiful. This theme successfully runs through my work because I haven’t done anything to the models, they come how they are and they all bring the fashion to the photography.
Ideas The main ideas under my themes are that everything is Fashion, everyone and everything is beautiful and that the best way to do anything is by doing it your own way and what feels comfortable to you.
Issues
Subjects The subject I’m focusing on is ‘The Body’ but most importantly at the moment is the clothing that covers that body. Fashion isn’t just all about clothes but when focusing around Karl Lagerfeld who’s main focus is one piece of clothing added to each model this is what I have done. The subject to most of these so far is a brown cape, that’s incorporated into most photographs to link all of the models together and also link them to the artist.
Techniques and Materials There’s been a few techniques I’ve explored in this unit such as, photography (mostly in the studio, with studio lights etc.), editing, sewing, painting, and pin pricking photos. I mostly enjoyed the practical working into the photographs because I like the hands-on work and the effects created on my photographs.
Visual Qualities
Artists So far the artists I have looked at are Karl Lagerfeld and Daniele Buetti. I chose Daniele Buetti because I liked the style of his work, and wanted to explore his techniques on my photography. I then chose Karl Lagerfeld because he uses the theme of ‘Fashion’ in his photography, which links to the ideas of my work.
Developmental Ideas After exploring the ideas under ‘Natural Beauty’ I want to contrast this by exploring into artificial beauty, and because I’ve already looked into the clothing side to fashion I want to move onto another subject underneath fashion like make up. This could possibly be achieved by looking at artists such as Jen Weisman.
