thank
you!
On behalf of the entire Miami Book Fair team, we would like to express our deepest and most sincere gratitude to all of our sponsors for their generous support of the 2017 Miami Book Fair. Hundreds of authors from all over the world presented to thousands of readers over the week of Book Fair, in what was one of our most exciting and dynamic Fairs yet. We opened this year’s Book Fair with beloved journalist Dan Rather, then spent the next seven days in the company of more than 500 of the best writers from the U.S. and around the world, including famed Chilean novelist Isabel Allende, former Vice President Joe Biden, the 2017 Man Booker Prize winner George Saunders, and over two dozen of the National Book Awards honorees. Other notable authors at this year’s Book Fair included Salman Rushdie, Chris Matthews, Edwidge Danticat, James McBride, Robert Hass, Katy Tur, Lisa See, Jeffrey Eugenides, Van Jones, Gene Yang, and Walter Isaacson, just to name a few. We also brought dozens of independent and mainstream publishers to sell books during the Street Fair, and continued to grow our children’s programs. The many pop-up fun rooms, live music, and storytelling and author stages of Children’s Alley delighted more than 20,000 kids of all ages, and their grownups, too! Once again Miami Book Fair gave free books to thousands of kids to encourage a lasting love of reading. Our programs continue to be as diverse, and unique, as the communities we serve. The Fair’s IberoAmerican Program presented over 80 authors from around the world, including Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Spain, Mexico, Perú, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela; and we continued to grow the ReadCaribbean program, which brought 75 authors from various countries to participate in readings and discussions highlighting the varied experience of Caribbean people.
The second year of the revamped and expanded Porch showcased an eclectic line-up of established and emerging Miami-based cultural talent. Comfy outdoor furniture, live music, games, a video booth, poetry on demand, and good vibrations all conspired to create an oasis within the Fair, the ideal environment to relax and connect for all Fairgoers. It was another phenomenal year for literature and books in Miami, and we have you to thank for it. Thank you again for your support and for all that you do to keep this vibrant community of writers and readers thriving. We truly could not have done it without you. Our sincere thanks, The Miami Book Fair Team

Premier Sponsor, Royal Caribbean Royal Caribbean is dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing of the communities they serve. Their sponsorship of the Miami Book Fair fit this goal. The Fair helped them create brand awareness in the community by facilitating their connection with the 200,000+ attendees who come to the Book Fair each year. Royal Caribbean’s very generous sponsorship of this year’s Children’s Alley also helped more than 24,000 kids to enjoy our Generation Genius children’s programming at the Fair. Generation Genius Authors (GGA) Program For more than 27 years, GGA has been connecting students from local schools with world-renowned authors of popular children’s books at Miami Book Fair. Hearing from authors directly personalizes literature for young people, dispelling the preconceptions that alienate many students from the pleasures of reading. At the same time, the encounter with established authors exposes students to positive role models for self and career development. Children’s Alley Children’s Alley is an immersive educational playground that takes place during the three-day Street Fair. Designed for children between the ages of 0 and 12, Children’s Alley offers opportunities to engage in book culture and develop reading and writing skills in a fun and dynamic context that includes storytelling sessions, theatrical presentations, hands-on exhibits, costumed characters and more.
In addition to engaging more than 23,000 children and their families at Children’s Alley, Royal Caribbean was also featured in the following ways as part of the activation: • 2,500 printed fliers • 15,000 stickers placed in the free books we give out to kids • 2 large banners at Children’s Alley Entrances • Jason Segal’s GGA session, which drew over 800 attendees • Fairgoers Guide (60,000 copies printed/20,000 downloaded) • Print ads in Miami Herald, El Nuevo Herald and Miami New Times • TV PSAs (more than 100) on WPBT 2, WLRN, NBC 6 and various Comcast channels.
