From the Director of Athletics Hurricane Fans, As we rapidly approach the start of another Hurricane Athletics season, I can’t help but take a look back at another successful year at the U. The 2014-15 athletics campaign was one of great success in the classroom, in the community and in competition. This month’s magazine captures the 2014-15 athletics campaign in pictures. As we take a moment to reflect on last year, I would like to take some time to thank our studentathletes, coaches and staff for all the hard work, dedication and passion they put into their daily activities here at The U. Through their efforts, the University of Miami Athletics department consistently ranks among the best at the Division I level. As a department, we had nine of our programs qualify for postseason play and 24 student-athletes recognized as All-Americans. I would like to congratulate Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ and our women’s tennis team who returned to the Sweet 16, while Jim Morris and our baseball team earned the program’s 24th College Baseball World Series appearance. Both programs extended their impressive postseason streaks: women’s tennis advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the 10th consecutive year and baseball posted its nation-leading 43rd consecutive NCAA postseason appearance. In addition, I would like to recognize Sam Dorman for winning the NCAA National Championship in the 3-meter springboard and Savanah Leaf for being recognized as an NCAA Woman of the Year Finalist. In closing, I want to wish our Hurricane student-athletes that earned their degrees this past spring the best of luck as they prepare for their future endeavors. I hope you enjoy this month’s magazine as we reflect on the latest Hurricane news and look ahead to another exciting month. Go Canes! Blake James

Miami & adidas Unveil Canes’ New Uniforms

The University of Miami and adidas tonight officially unveiled the Hurricanes’ new Primeknit football uniforms for the 2015 season. With Club LIV at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach serving as the backdrop, along with surprise performances by DJ Cannon and Pusha T, a host of football alumni, celebrities were in attendance to get the first-look at the new uniforms and to celebrate the new partnership, which begins on September 1st. Developed in collaboration with the University of Miami athletic department, the team’s new look is highlighted by updated metallic stripes on the jerseys and pants, incorporating hurricane style cuts and patterns throughout the new uniform. Additionally, the “Hurricanes” moniker is strategically placed across the ribbing of the inside collar for the players to see when they don the uniform, while the classic oversized “U” logo is stitched into on the back of the jersey for all to view. Made with a cutting-edge, proprietary yarn blend that increases durability and abrasion resistance, Primeknit is the premier compression uniform system, featuring the latest generation of adidas TECHFIT technology. Primeknit helps keep players cool and increases range of motion, giving athletes an unrivaled level of comfort and allowing them to perform at their highest levels. The jersey’s padlock system secures tension over the shoulder pads, while the bodymap fit adheres to the player, making it difficult for opponents to grab, hold or tackle. Making their on-field debut on Saturday, September 5th vs. Bethune-Cookman for the team’s season opener, the Hurricanes will have the option to mix and match three colorways throughout the season. The green, orange and white variations are interchangeable, resulting in nine unique uniform combinations. Rounding out the core uniforms are the adizero 5-Star 4.0 cleats, lighter than any competitor cleat at 8.0 ounces and constructed with lightweight SPRINTSKIN upper featuring SHOCKWEB reinforcement, along with the adizero 5-Star 4.0 gloves, with 4-way stretch mesh for compression fit and GripTack 2.0 for consistent control in all weather conditions, and TECHFIT gun show baselayer – both prominently featuring the “U” logo. University of Miami Donating to Outside Organizations With the great success that our student-athletes and athletic programs have had both on and off the field, our department is continuously asked for donations to help support the fundraising activities of organizations in the community. The NCAA has put into place bylaws to help preserve the eligibility of our student-athletes, as well as maintain the integrity of the recruitment of prospective student-athletes. According to these bylaws collegiate institutions may only provide donations (tickets, autographs, etc.) to charitable, educational or non-for-profit organizations. These donations may not help support high school athletic programs or be earmarked in any way to benefit recruited prospective student-athletes. In men’s basketball, donations from a university may not be made to non-profit organizations that expend funds for the benefit of non-scholastic teams (e.g., AAU teams), recruits or individuals associated with recruits. If you are interested in asking the University of Miami for a donation to a charitable cause or for student-athletes to participate in your promotional activity, we would ask that you complete the University of Miami’s Donation/Promotional Request form available at hurricanesports.com or by e-mailing athleticcommunityrelations@miami.edu. As always, your efforts to help the University of Miami maintain a culture of compliance are greatly appreciated. Please contact the University of Miami Athletics Compliance Department with any questions regarding NCAA, ACC or University of Miami rules or regulations at athleticscompliance@miami.edu or 305-284-2692. Also, please remember to always ASK BEFORE YOU ACT! Sincerely,

Craig Anderson Associate Athletic Director for Compliance
